Ellen Hull of Hamilton College (N.Y.) has been named the 1999 NCAA Division III Atlantic Region Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year. The United States Track Coaches Association and Mondo Surfacing selects and presents the award annually to a top coach in each of the eight NCAA Division III women's cross country regions. Hull, who recently completed her seventh season as head coach of the Continentals, guided Hamilton College to a seventh-place finish at the NCAA Division III Championship held Nov. 20 in Winneconne, Wis. The Continentals scored 258 points to record their highest finish at the NCAA Division III Championship in school annals. They also had two All-Americans at the event. Hamilton College qualified as a team entrant for the NCAA Division III Championship by finishing second at the 26-team Atlantic Regional held Nov. 13. The Continentals placed five runners in the top 26 individual finishes at the Atlantic Regional to finish one point behind the 75 points recorded by champion The College of New Jersey. Hamilton College won two events during the 1999 season, the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association and New York State Track Conference Championships. Hull, who also guided Hamilton College to a 21st-place finish at the 1995 NCAA Division III Championship, is a graduate of State University of New York-Plattsburgh.
