ST. OLAF'S CHRIS DAYMONT NAMED
CENTRAL REGION CROSS COUNTRY COACH OF THE YEAR

Chris Daymont of St. Olaf College (Minn.) has been named the 1999 NCAA Division III Central Region Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year. The United States Track Coaches Association and Mondo Surfacing selects and presents the award annually to a top coach in each of the eight NCAA Division III women's cross country regions.

Daymont, who recently completed her 19th season as head coach of the Oles, guided St. Olaf College to a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Division III Championship held Nov. 20 in Winneconne, Wis. The Oles scored 191 points to record their highest finish at the NCAA Division III Championship in school annals.

St. Olaf College qualified as a team entrant for the NCAA Division III Championship by winning the 24-team Central Regional held Nov. 13. The Oles placed three runners in the top 11 individual finishes at the Central Regional to win the meet by 44 points over second-place Macalester College (Minn.).

In addition to its title at the NCAA Division III Central Regional, St. Olaf College also won the Loyola University (Ill.) Invitational, St. Olaf College Invitational, University of Minnesota Invitational, University of Minnesota-Duluth Invitational, University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Invitational and the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship during the 1999 season.

Daymont, who has guided St. Olaf College to eight consecutive appearances at the NCAA Division III Championship as a team entrant, is a 1975 graduate of State University of New York-Cortland.

Ted Bulling of Nebraska Wesleyan University was named the 1999 NCAA Division III Central Region Men's Cross County Coach of the Year.
