CALVIN'S MIZZONE NAMED
GREAT LAKES REGION CROSS COUNTRY ATHLETE OF THE YEAR

Amy Mizzone of Calvin College (Mich.) has been named the 1999 NCAA Division III Great Lakes Region Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Year. The United States Track Coaches Association and Mondo Surfacing selects and presents the award annually to the top athlete in each of the eight NCAA Division III women's cross country regions. The announcement is made in conjunction with the NCAA Division III Championship, which was hosted today (Nov. 20) by the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

Mizzone, a senior from Wayne, N.J., won the individual title at the Great Lakes Regional on Nov. 13 to help Calvin College qualify as a team entrant for the NCAA Division III Championship. The philosophy major won the Great Lakes Regional title with a time of 17:42 on the 5,000-meter course. The Knights won the 29-team Great Lakes Regional with 31 points. Earlier this year, Mizzone won the individual title at the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championship.

Last year, Mizzone helped Calvin College to its first NCAA Division III title by finishing 12th with a time of 18:19. The performance gained her All-America accolades.
