HAVERFORD'S TOM DONNELLY NAMED
MIDEAST REGION CROSS COUNTRY COACH OF THE YEAR

Tom Donnelly of Haverford College (Pa.) has been named the 1999 NCAA Division III Mideast Region Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year. The United States Track Coaches Association and Mondo Surfacing selects and presents the award annually to a top coach in each of the eight NCAA Division III men's cross country regions.

Donnelly, who recently completed his 25th season as head coach of the Fords, guided Haverford College to a 19th-place finish at the NCAA Division III Championship held Nov. 20 in Winneconne, Wis. The Fords were two points away from finishing 17th at the NCAA Division III Championship.

Haverford College qualified as a team entrant for the NCAA Division III Championship
by winning the 30-team Mideast Regional held Nov. 13. The Fords placed five runners in the top 26 individual finishes at the Mideast Regional to win the meet by 44 points over second-place Elizabethtown College (Pa.).

In addition to its title at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional, Haverford College also won the 31-team Gettysburg College Invitational and the nine-team Centennial Conference Championship during the 1999 season.Donnelly, who has guided Haverford College to seven consecutive appearances as a team entrant at the NCAA Division III Championship, is a graduate of Villanova University (Pa.).

Don Nichter of Dickinson College (Pa.) was named the 1999 NCAA Division III Mideast Region Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year.
