DICKINSON'S DON NICHTNER NAMED
MIDEAST REGION CROSS COUNTRY COACH OF THE YEAR

Don Nichter of Dickinson College (Pa.) has been named the 1999 NCAA Division III Mideast Region Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year. The United States Track Coaches Association and Mondo Surfacing selects and presents the award annually to a top coach in each of the eight NCAA Division III women's cross country regions.

Nichter, who recently completed his 11th season as head coach of the Red Devils, guided Dickinson College to a 22nd-place finish at the NCAA Division III Championship held Nov. 20 in Winneconne, Wis.

Dickinson College qualified as a team entrant for the NCAA Division III Championship
by winning the 32-team Mideast Regional held Nov. 13. The Red Devils placed five runners in the top 20 individual finishes at the Mideast Regional to win the meet by 46 points over second-place Moravian College (Pa.).

In addition to its title at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional, Dickinson College also won the Lebanon Valley College Invitational during the 1999 season. The Red Devils were a second-place finisher at the Centennial Conference Championship.

Nichter, who guided Dickinson College to a 20th-place finish at the 1997 NCAA Division III Championship, is a 1979 graduate of Ithaca College (N.Y.). Nichter is also the head men's cross country coach at Dickinson College

Tom Donnelly of Haverford College (Pa.) was named the 1999 NCAA Division III Mideast Region Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year.
