UW-La Crosse claimed its fourth straight WIAC women's indoor track and field championship at Kolf Sports Center in Oshkosh on Saturday (March 8). The Eagles, who have won five of the last 10 league crowns, totaled 204 team points to win this year's crown. UW-Oshkosh finished second with 145.50 points, followed by UW-Stevens Point (108), UW-Eau Claire (103.50), UW-Platteville (40), UW-Stout (33.50), UW-River Falls (31), UW-Whitewater (29.50) and UW-Superior (7). UW-La Crosse captured six individual titles during the two-day meet. Angela Klatt won the 55-meter dash and 200-meter dash titles with times of 7.27 and 25.60, respectively. It marked the third straight year she has won the 200 meter crown. Julia Rudd won the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:53.76, while Tricia Clark won the long jump with a distance of 18-9 3/4 and Angela Hilgers won the pole vault title with a height of 12-4. Kristin Raether claimed the shot put crown with toss of 45-2 1/4. UW-Oshkosh's Elizabeth Woodworth was voted the Outstanding Track Performer of the Meet after wining the 800-meter run and the 1,500-meter run titles. She claimed the 800 meter event for the third straight season with a time of 2:18.11 and the 1,500 meter crown with a time of 4:41.21. UW-Oshkosh also got individual titles from Deena Heins and Julie Hock. Heins won the 20-pound weight throw with a conference record heave of 59-7 1/2, while Hock won the pentathlon title with 3,151 points. UW-Eau Claire's Breanna McMullen won the 55-meter hurdles title for the second straight year with a time of 8.40, while Jackie Bloemendaal added another individual crown for the Blugolds, winning the high jump with a height of 5-5. UW-Stevens Point's Megan Craig won the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:18.29 and Jesalyn Maher claimed the 400-meter dash title with a time of 58.33. UW-Stout's Laura Verdegan was voted the Outstanding Field Performer of the Meet after establishing a new conference mark in the triple jump with a distance of 40-4. UW-La Crosse won the 4 x 200 meter and 4 x 400 meter relay titles with times of 1:42.02 and 4:00.95, respectively. UW-Oshkosh won the distance medley relay event with a time of 12:16.07. UW-La Crosse head coach Pat Healy was voted the league's Coach of the Year for the fourth straight season in the indoor competition. |
