UW-Oshkosh To Host NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Regional

UW-Oshkosh has been selected to host a four-team regional of the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship on Friday (Nov. 9) and Saturday (Nov. 10) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

The NCAA extended invitations for its 2007 postseason tournament on Monday (Nov. 5) to 57 schools, with 36 receiving automatic berths and 21 gaining at-large bids. UW-Oshkosh, which plays as an independent, received one of the at-large invitations.

Action in the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship began on Wednesday (Nov. 7) with seven first round matches.

UW-Oshkosh's appearance in this year's NCAA Division III Championship begins on Friday when it hosts Wartburg College (Iowa) in a 7 p.m. match. The contest follows a 5 p.m. game between Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) and Whitworth University (Wash.).

The championship match of the Oshkosh Regional, with the winner advancing to the national quarterfinals, will be held on Saturday at 6 p.m. at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

UW-Oshkosh (15-2-1) is making its 11th appearance in the NCAA Division III Championship, with Final Four visits in 1994, 2000 and 2003.

Gustavus Adolphus College (17-3-1) qualified for the NCAA Division III Championship by winning the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament. The Gusties are appearing in their fifth straight NCAA Division III postseason tournament and eighth overall. Gustavus Adolphus College made the semifinal round in 2003.

Wartburg College (15-3-2) was the runner-up in the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and received an at-large selection to this year's NCAA postseason event. The Knights are making their fifth appearance in the NCAA Division III Championship, all since 2003.

Whitworth University (14-3-1) earned its way to the NCAA Division III Championship by winning the Northwest Conference title. The Pirates are appearing in their fourth NCAA Division III Championship, including a semifinal round visit in 2005.
