Capture Fourth Straight Title, 29th Overall
The University of Wisconsin-La
Crosse won its fourth consecutive Wisconsin
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC)
men’s cross country championship at
Winneconne's Lake Breeze Golf Club on Saturday
(Oct. 27).
The conference title is the 29th in program
history for the Eagles, who registered 40
team points to win this year’s event.
UW-Platteville and UW-Stevens Point tied
for second with 65 points, followed by UW-Whitewater
in fourth with 139, UW-Oshkosh fifth with
150, UW-Eau Claire sixth with 177, UW-Stout
seventh with 189, UW-Superior eighth with
204 and UW-River Falls ninth with 219.
Individually, UW-Platteville senior Tyler
Sigl earned a chunk of WIAC history as he
became the fourth person to claim three
or more league titles, completing the 8,000-meter
race in 24:11.85. He joins a prestigious
group that already includes UW-Whitewater’s
Tom Hoffman and UW-La Crosse’s Jim
Drews and Joe Hanson. Hoffman won titles
from 1966-68, while Drews and Hanson captured
championships from 1970-73 and 1974-77,
respectively.
UW-La Crosse had five runners finish in
the top 13 to guide the winning effort.
Senior Paul Zdroik led the Eagle charge,
placing second with a time of 24:35.63.
Sophomore Connor Lonning was fourth in 24:59.60,
sophomore Paul Moran ninth in 25:17.82,
sophomore Dallas Vincent 12th in 25:20.88
and junior Ben Herdeman 13th in 25:31.26.

Win First Title Since 1985, Third Overall
The
University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire won the
2007 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference (WIAC) women’s cross country
title at Winneconne's Lake Breeze Golf Course
on Saturday (Oct. 27).
The conference title for UW-Eau Claire is
the third in school history and first since
1985. The Blugolds also claimed the league
crown in 1984.
UW-Eau Claire compiled 44 team points to
outdistance UW-Platteville’s second-place
total of 49 points. UW-La Crosse, the two-time
defending champion, finished third with
77, followed by UW-Oshkosh in fourth with
121, UW-Stevens Point fifth with 131, UW-River
Falls sixth with 167, UW-Whitewater seventh
with 193, UW-Stout eighth with 202 and UW-Superior
ninth with 253.
UW-Oshkosh sophomore Alya Mitchell captured
the individual title, completing the 6,000-meter
course in 21:26.50 to nip UW-River Falls
sophomore Becca Jordahl’s second-place
time of 21:28.34. (More)
