Men's Discus

Dan Hytinen of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater captured his second straight NCAA Division III discus title Thursday (May 22) with a mark of 196-5. Hytinen's mark was a NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship and J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium record and met U.S. Olympic Trials qualification standards.

Hytinen becomes the sixth athlete to win back-to-back NCAA Division III discus titles, including the second straight. Dan Austin of Williams College (Mass.) took the discus title in 2005 and 2006.

Derek Marks of the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) took second place with a throw of 172-2, while Bobby Riley of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse was in the third position at 167-9. Marks placed ninth a year ago while Riley repeated his third-place finish from last season.

Mount Union College's (Ohio) Judd Lutz finished in fourth place with a toss of 167-9, while Earlham College's (Ind.) Chris Shaw was in fifth place with a fling of 164-9. Lutz finished in eighth-place last year.

Others earning All-America honors included Jamie Simpson of Mount Union College finishing in sixth-place with a heave of 163-4, Patrick Nicholson of Mount Union College in seventh place with a mark of 162-10 and Doug Melton of Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) in eighth place with a cast of 162-8.
