
Mark O'Connell of the University
of St. Thomas (Minn.) captured the national title in the
hammer throw with a mark of 191-0 on Friday (May 23) at
the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship.
He is the second student-athlete from the University of
St. Thomas to win the hammer, joining Pat Ahern who won
the national title in 1993.
Defiance College's (Ohio)
Trevor Matuszak placed second at 189-3, while the University
of Wisconsin-Oshkosh's Phil Prusinski was in the third position
with a mark of 182-0. Al Oleson of the Univeristy of Wisconsin-Eau
Claire took fourth place at 181-8 while Rich McNeil of Bates
College (Maine) placed fifth with a throw of 180-9.
Others earning All-America
honors included Monmouth College's (Ill.) Zach Wilson who
finished in sixth place with a fling of 179-10, State University
of New York-Brockport's Dom Gonzalez in seventh place with
a cast of 177-11 and Calvin College's (Mich.) Ryan Jensen
in the eighth position with a fling of 177-0. Wilson was
ninth a year ago.
