Women's Discus

Amongst a field of three returning All-Americans, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater's Dana Thompson took the top-spot on the awards podium at the conclusion of the women's discus at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship Thursday (May 22).

Thompson, hitting her best throw of 161-8 on her second attempt, needed a NCAA Division III season's best toss to win the event. University of Chicago's (Ill.) Claire Ray, a sixth-place finisher in 2007, took second-place at 156-11, while Marissa Banks of Augustana College (Ill.) had a third-place showing at 154-10. Banks was also a repeat All-American after taking third-place last year.

Loras College's (Iowa) Ellen Thys added a repeat All-American outing, taking fifth-place with a mark of 152-9.

The remaining All-Americans were Vicki Cooper of the University of Wisconsin-River Falls with a fourth-place heave of 153-9, Ellie Sitek of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh with a sixth-place fling of 152-7, Christina Niehaus of Greenville College (Ill.) with a seventh-place toss of 152-2 and Jess Jewell of Luther College (Iowa) with a eighth-place launch of 151-10.
