2008 Women's Event Recap

Women's Heptathlon

A huge second day outing guided Messiah College's (Pa.) Amy Reed to the top spot of the heptathlon at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship.

Reed, setting a national championship meet and J.J Keller at Titan Stadium record, swept the events during the final day of the multi-event competition Friday (May 23). She took the long jump with a best effort of 18-3 3/4, was the winner in the javelin at 142-9 and was the winner in a close finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:21.66.

Her point total of 5,111 set both records due to the fact that State University New York-Cortland's Christina Acquaviva's 5,189-point effort in 2007 was wind-aided.

Reed's second day heroics wiped away a 75-point first day lead for runner-up Kaelene Lundstrum of Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.). Lundstrum ended the heptathlon with 4,762 points, turning in a big outing on Thursday (May 22), winning both the high jump and shot put.

Stacy Doornbos of Washington and Lee College (Pa.) took third-place with 4,737 points,

Lindsay Lange of Hope College (Mich.) earned fourth-place with 4,704 and Leah Kay of Concordia-Moorhead College (Minn.) grabbed fifth-place with 4,624.

Rounding out the All-American performances were Lindsey Snowdon of Nebraska Wesleyan University with a sixth-place performance of 4,547 points, Brooke Smith of Willamette University (Ore.) with a seventh-place achievement of 4,536 and Bridget Wolfe of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire with a eighth-place result of 4,525.
