Dan Leslie tossed a complete-game shutout in his first pitching appearance of the season to lead the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) past St. Olaf College (Minn.), 5-0, in the championship contest of the NCAA Division III Oshkosh Regional Baseball Tournament on Saturday (May 16) at E.J. Schneider Field in Oshkosh.
The University of St. Thomas advances to its fourth NCAA Division III World Series, which begins Friday (May 22) in Appleton, Wis. The Tommies (36-12) defeated the Oles (32-14) twice on Saturday, including an 11-2 triumph in the first game of the day. It was the seventh and eighth meetings between the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rivals this season.
Leslie (1-0) did not walk a batter and struck out four while firing all nine innings in the final.
A five-run second frame contained all of the scoring in the title game. The Tommies got a Roy Larson single and a Ben Wartman double to begin the inning. They then took control with a run-scoring single from Tim Kahle and a three-run homer by Matt Olson.
St. Olaf College registered two hits during the third inning but was unable to score. The Oles also tallied a single hit in each of the sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth innings.
The Tommies mashed out 14 base hits, including two each from Olson, Wartman, Matt McQuillan, Taylor Rahm and Brian Schmitz. Olson has now reached base in 35 consecutive games.
Carson Jones and Nick Fuerst each recorded two of the Oles’ seven hits.
Todd Mathison (6-5) pitched all nine innings for St. Olaf College. He took the loss after surrendering two earned runs and striking out eight batters.
In the first game of the day, the University of St. Thomas took a 1-0 lead in the opening frame on an error. St. Olaf College then tied the contest in the second inning on Mathison’s double.
The Tommies used a pair of walks to go back in front during the fifth inning. Schmitz roped a two-out double to make it a 2-1 score.
In the sixth inning, the University of St. Thomas rapped out seven hits on its way to nine runs. Rahm, who opened the frame with a single, launched a three-run homer eight batters later. The outburst also included a two-run single from Brady Field and a solo home run by Larson.
St. Olaf College scored its last run on a double play in the seventh inning. The Oles finished with nine hits, including two by both Mathison and Pat Wadzinski.
The Tommies’ 16 base hits featured three from both McQuillan and Rahm.
Brandon Agneberg (7-4) took the pitching loss for the Oles, who left 12 runners on base in the game. Agneberg allowed four runs (two earned) in five innings.
The win belonged to Matt Schuld (10-1), who surrendered two runs while striking out five in seven innings. Blake Searles tossed two scoreless innings to finish the game.
Named to the 11-player all-tournament team were Rick Krajewski of Beloit College, Brandon Agneberg, Carson Jones and Todd Mathison of St. Olaf College, Dan Leslie, John Licht, Matt Olson, Taylor Rahm, Brian Schmitz and Matt Schuld of the University of St. Thomas and Scott Williams of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Rahm was named the tournament's most outstanding player.

John Licht allowed just four base runners in throwing his first complete game of the season as the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) advanced to the championship round with a 6-0 victory over the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point at the NCAA Division III Oshkosh Regional Baseball Tournament held Friday (May 15) at E.J. Schneider Field in Oshkosh.
Striking out nine batters, Licht (5-2) yielded just four hits over nine innings. The Tommies (34-12) will take on St. Olaf College (Minn.) (32-12) on Saturday (May 16) in the championship round. The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (31-16) was eliminated from the tournament.
The University of St. Thomas tallied a pair of runs in the third and fourth frames while adding single scores in the sixth and ninth.
The Tommies marked two runs on one hit in the third, including a run-scoring groundout by Brian Schmitz. They then upped their lead to 4-0 in the fourth with runs on a Taylor Rahm double and a Tim Kahle infield single. After a double from Roy Larson, Louie Salmen singled him home during the sixth frame. Schmitz added a sacrifice fly for the game’s final tally.
The University of St. Thomas finished with seven base hits, including two from Kahle.
The Pointers accounted for singles in the fourth, fifth, sixth and ninth innings, with two coming from Eric Fritz.
Garrett Nix (4-2) took the loss for the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, which failed to score for the first time this season. Nix surrendered five runs (two earned) in his seven frames on the mound.

Joel Delorit yielded just one earned run over eight innings to help the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point advance with a 9-3 win over The College of St. Scholastica (Minn.) at the NCAA Division III Oshkosh Regional Baseball Tournament held Friday (May 15) at E.J. Schneider Field in Oshkosh.
Delorit (6-1) picked up the win for the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (31-15), which improved to 2-1 in the tournament.
The College of St. Scholastica (36-7) saw its season come to a close after the Pointers marked five runs in the deciding fourth inning. An error allowed the leadoff man to reach in the Pointers’ breakout frame before Brad Archambeau laced a two-run single. UW-Stevens Point then tallied on a double steal and a passed ball before Jared Surman’s run-scoring single.
Each team scored twice in the second frame, with The College of St. Scholastica achieving one hit and the Pointers belting out four.
The Saints used a run-scoring double from Tom Juberian before the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point tied the game on singles by Cody Koback and Kevin Thomas. The Pointers got their last two runs on an error and a Thomas sacrifice fly during the seventh inning.
The Pointers totaled 14 hits, including three from Surman.
The College of
St. Scholastica, which touched home plate for its third run on a balk, got one hit from seven different players.

St. Olaf College (Minn.) marked all of its runs during the third inning as it advanced to the championship round with a 5-2 triumph over the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) in a third round contest at the NCAA Division III Oshkosh Regional Baseball Tournament held Friday (May 15) at E.J. Schneider Field in Oshkosh.
The Oles (32-12) moved to 3-0 in postseason play and will face either the University of St. Thomas or the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in the championship on Saturday (May 16) at 11 a.m.
Trailing 1-0, St. Olaf College stroked six hits during the third frame. The big blows were a two-run single by Tyler Jones and a two-run homer from Eric Nelson.
Tyler Johnson singled in the final run with two outs for a 5-1 advantage.
Matt Olson scored both of the Tommies’ runs, including one on a Dan Leslie sacrifice fly in the third inning. During the eighth frame, Leslie reached on an error and drove home Olson to make it a 5-2 score.
Alex Sommer (5-1) held the University of St. Thomas to just two hits in the first six innings as he picked up the victory. Todd Mathison tossed two scoreless frames to close the game.
The pitching loss fell on Ryan Fahey (4-2) after he allowed three runs over 2.1 frames. Brady Gibbs came in for the last 5.2 innings and surrendered two runs.
Olson registered two of the University of St. Thomas' five hits.

| The University of St. Thomas exploded for seven runs during the eighth inning as it went to 2-0 in postseason play with an 8-4 win over The College of St. Scholastica in a second round contest at the NCAA Division III Oshkosh Regional Baseball Tournament held Thursday (May 14) at E.J. Schneider Field in Oshkosh.
The Tommies (33-11), who had just one hit in the first six innings, recorded six hits in the deciding eighth frame. The outburst featured a two-run single by Dan Leslie and run-scoring singles from Tom Wippler, Matt Olson and Louie Salmen.
A groundout by Paul Kolodge plated a run before another came in on an error as the Saints (36-6) went up, 2-0, in the opening frame. St. Scholastica used a Nick Lee single and a Kolodge double to mark again in the sixth inning. Brandon Peterson lifted a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0.
The Saints got one more tally during the seventh frame on a double steal. In the bottom half, St. Thomas cut its deficit to 4-1 with a Wippler sacrifice fly.
Lee finished with two of the seven hits for the Saints, while Olson and Brian Schmitz each had a pair of the Tommies’ nine base hits.
Adian Kummet (6-3) took the pitching loss after allowing four runs in 7.1 innings. The win went to Bryce Gapinski (6-2), who fired all nine frames and struck out five while yielding two earned runs. |

| St. Olaf College (Minn.) rattled off eight unanswered runs in the final five innings to come from behind and register an 8-4 win over St. Norbert College (Wis.) in a second round contest at the NCAA Division III Oshkosh Regional Baseball Tournament held Thursday (May 14) at E.J. Schneider Field in Oshkosh.
The Oles (31-12) scored three times in the fifth inning and twice in the seventh as they overcame a 4-0 deficit. St. Norbert College (23-15), which took a four-run lead during the fourth inning on Ryan Gusick’s three-run homer, was eliminated from the tournament.
In the fifth frame, St. Olaf College got a single by Todd Mathison before Tyler Johnson launched a two-run homer. Pat Wadzinski added a run-scoring single to make it a 4-3 contest.
One run came in for the Oles on a groundout in the sixth inning before two touched home on a Mathison double in the seventh.
Eric Nelson singled in a run during the eighth inning after another Ole was thrown out at the plate.
St. Norbert College got its first tally of the game on a Jared Yost single in the third frame.
The Green Knights finished with 12 hits, including three by Garrick Fisher. The Oles used three hits apiece from Mathison and Erik Klefsaas to record 14 in the game.
Mathison also earned his second save of the season on the mound with two perfect innings. Eric Olson (7-1) earned the pitching win with one scoreless frame.
Jordan Vater (3-4) surrendered one earned run over 1.1 innings to take the loss after Trevin Hillesheim started for St. Norbert College and yielded four runs in five frames. |

| The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point blasted three home runs as it stayed alive with an 8-2 victory over Beloit College (Wis.) in a second round contest at the NCAA Division III Oshkosh Regional Baseball Tournament held Thursday (May 14) at E.J. Schneider Field in Oshkosh.
The Pointers (30-15) used solo home runs from Sam Spurney in the second inning and Jared Surman in the third as they took a 6-0 lead through four frames.
Beloit College (28-9) saw its season come to a close in its first NCAA Division III postseason appearance.
The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point also tallied on a Kevin Thomas triple and an Eric Fritz single in the second frame. Kyle Cummings added a two-run single during the fourth inning for the six-run advantage.
Beloit College got on the scoreboard in the seventh inning after Mike Ross hit a one-out single. Jon Moran came up next and drilled a two-run homer to make it 6-2.
Cody Koback completed the scoring with a two-run home run in the eighth inning for the Pointers. He finished with three of his team’s 12 base hits, as did Cummings.
Hunter Nelson recorded two of the Buccaneers’ eight hits.
The Pointers’ starter, Kyle Barry (7-4), got the win with seven innings of two-run ball. Tyler Lorenz got the last six outs for the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
Jordan DeGeorge (7-2) took the pitching loss, allowing six runs over 4.1 innings. Alex Norman hurled the next 4.1 innings for Beloit College and yielded two runs.

| Paul Kolodge laced a run-scoring single in the 11th inning to win the game as The College of St. Scholastica (Minn.) snuck past St. Norbert College (Wis.), 7-6, in a first round contest at the NCAA Division III Oshkosh Regional Baseball Tournament held Thursday (May 14) at E.J. Schneider Field in Oshkosh.
St. Scholastica (36-5) used a leadoff single from Chad Peterson and a double by Sean Claugherty to open the 11th frame. With one out, Kolodge ripped his hit to left field for the walk-off victory.
St. Norbert College (23-14) sent the game to extra innings with a solo home run by Jared Yost in the top of the ninth frame.
The Green Knights cut their deficit to 6-5 in the seventh inning on Tony Jandron’s double.
The Saints jumped on the board in the first inning with a solo home run by Brian Marshik. St. Scholastica then went ahead, 5-0, in the fourth frame after marking three runs on St. Norbert College errors.
A fielding miscue helped the Green Knights tally four runs on four hits in the fifth inning. They marked on a Brett Birkholz single, a Cory Fuller double and sacrifice flies from Jandron and Garrick Fisher.
Yost, who extended his hitting streak to 18 games, registered four of the 13 hits for St. Norbert College. Peterson and Marshik each totaled three of the Saints’ 14 hits.
Josh Retka (4-1) earned the victory after giving up one run in four innings. Peter Burg surrendered three earned runs in the opening seven frames for the Saints.
The Green Knights’ starter, Justin Wotachek, fired the first nine innings and allowed four earned runs before Jordan Vater (3-3) took the loss in his one frame.

| A walk-off home run by Taylor Rahm in the 17th inning ended the longest postseason game in NCAA Division III history as the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) earned a 5-4 win against the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point at the Oshkosh Regional Baseball Tournament held Wednesday (May 13) at E.J. Schneider Field in Oshkosh.
Rahm launched a shot well beyond the left field fence to cap the four-hour marathon. The home run was his second of the season.
Neither team scored after the top of the seventh inning, and each squad used just two pitchers in the contest.
The Tommies (32-11) move on in the winner’s bracket and will play at 7 p.m. on Thursday (May 14). The University of St. Thomas will play either The College of St. Scholastica (Minn.) (35-5) or St. Norbert College (Wis.) (23-13).
Facing an elimination game, the Pointers (29-15) will also continue their postseason run on Thursday. The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point will take on Beloit College (Wis.) (28-8).

After Brad Archambeau cracked a two-run homer in the fifth inning for a 3-0 advantage, the University of St. Thomas struck back. The Tommies used a pair of fielding miscues and a Dan Leslie single to set up Brian Schmitz, who blasted a grand slam to take a 4-3 lead.
The Pointers answered in the top of the seventh inning after Fritz reached on an error. He stole second base before touching home to tie the contest on a single from Archambeau.
Schmitz tallied two of the University of St. Thomas’ six hits, while Archambeau counted four and Fritz three for the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
The Tommies’ Matt Schuld surrendered three earned runs as he hurled the opening 12 innings and struck out nine. Kris Edwards (1-0) came in for five scoreless innings to earn the win.
Scott Williams started for the Pointers and hurled nine innings while giving up four unearned runs before Jeff Zielke (3-2) pitched seven frames and allowed the game-winner.
The previous record for the longest NCAA Division III postseason game was set on May 29, 2005. Wartburg College (Iowa) topped Rowan University (N.J.), 8-6, in that 16-inning contest. |

Schneider Field in Oshkosh.
St. Olaf College (30-12) will play in a winner’s bracket contest at 4 p.m. on Thursday (May 14). Beloit College (28-8) faces an elimination game at 1 p.m. on Thursday against the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (29-15).
The Oles got a leadoff walk in the 11th inning by Sean Dube. After a stolen base and Pat Wadzinski’s single, Tyler Jones flew out to right field to bring home the winning tally.
Carson Jones opened the Oles’ fourth inning with a single before Wadzinski advanced him with a single. St. Olaf College then took a 1-0 advantage on a sacrifice fly from Tyler Jones.
Beloit College got singles by Mike Ross, Jake Majeski and Mike Kovach as it tied the contest in the ninth inning. With one out, an Oles’ throwing error allowed one run to score before a second Buccaneer was thrown out at the plate.
Hunter Nelson recorded three base hits to lead Beloit College, which finished with 11. St. Olaf College totaled six hits, including two apiece from Wadzinski and Carson Jones.
Neither starting pitcher gave up an earned run, with Rick Krajewski tossing 8.1 innings for the Buccaneers and Brandon Agneberg going 7.1 for the Oles. Todd Mathison (6-4) earned the win with one scoreless inning of relief, while Chris Welborn (2-3) allowed one run over the final two innings to take the loss. |
