UW-La Crosse Women
Capture Third Straight WIAC Title

Relying on its overall depth, UW-La Crosse claimed its third straight title and 25th overall at the WIAC Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship held Friday and Saturday (May 1-2) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium in Oshkosh.

UW-La Crosse won just five of the 22 events, but still managed to total a first-place score of 211 points. UW-Oshkosh finished second with 181 points, UW-Eau Claire third with 146, UW-Stevens Point fourth with 94, UW-River Falls fifth with 78, UW-Platteville sixth with 58, UW-Whitewater seventh with 50, UW-Stout eighth with 33 and UW-Superior ninth with six.

UW-La Crosse scored 22 points in the high jump and 19 points in the triple jump to pull away from a 10-point deficit after Friday's competition. The Eagles had Amy Jo Garringer win the high jump with a mark of 5-3 1/4 and Katie Fondow take the triple jump with a distance of 37-10 3/4.

UW-La Crosse also won the 400-meter relay for the sixth consecutive season as the foursome of Kailey Charlton, Katie Fondow, Ashton May and Caitlin Schetter posted a time of 48.11.

UW-Oshkosh continued its dominance in the throwing events as Ellie Sitek won the discus with a cast of 148-5 and Holly Ozanich the shot put with a launch of 44-0 3/4. Sitek was named the Field Performer of the Meet as she also took second in both the hammer throw with a fling 172-9 and the shot put with a toss of 43-0 1/2.

Brooke Bell of UW-Whitewater was awarded the Track Performer of the Meet after setting WIAC and facility records in the 200-meet dash in a time of 23.98. Bell also won the 100-meter dash in a facility record time of 11.95, dethroning two-time defending champion Elizabeth Caine of UW-Stevens Point who took second-place in a time of 12.11.

UW-Oshkosh's Ayla Mitchell held of a late charge by UW-Platteville's Jessica Scott to win the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:40.03. Mitchell picked up her second title on Saturday by winning the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:09.46. (More)

UW-La Crosse Men
Win 19th Straight WIAC Crown

Bobby Riley won three events and Paul Zdroik two to lead UW-La Crosse to a first-place finish at the WIAC Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championship held Friday and Saturday (May 1-2) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium in Oshkosh.

UW-La Crosse tallied 176.5 points to capture its 19th straight title and 45th overall. UW-Stevens Point finished second with 157 points, UW-Whitewater third with 129.5, UW-Oshkosh fourth with 106, UW-Platteville fifth with 99, UW-Eau Claire sixth with 89, UW-Stout seventh with 61, UW-River Falls eighth with 38 and UW-Superior ninth with two.

Riley was named the Field Performer of the Meet after winning the shot put with a toss of 57-0 1/4 and the discus with a cast of 171-4 on Saturday and the javelin with a throw of 178-1 on Friday. He previously won the shot put in 2007.

Zdroik won the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:05.92 on Saturday after winning the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a performance of 9:15.01 on Friday.

Other event winners for the Eagles on Saturday were Zach Wilhelmy in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:54.29, Paul Yerhot in the 400-meter run with a time of 49.30 and David Stauder in the high jump with a leap of 6-8 3/4.

Keith Ingram of UW-Stevens Point was voted the Track Performer of the Meet after winning both the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash with times of 10.89 and 21.72, respectively.

UW-Stevens Point also had Mike Dellemann win the decathlon with 5,992 points and the quartet of Nick Dax, Brad Koback, Adam Lang and Pat Leonard capture the 1,600-meter relay with a time of 3:19.47. UW-Stevens Point's Dom Meyer won the 10,000-meter run on day one of the championship. (More)
