University Books & More and the Wisconsin National Guard are proud to support the second season of the UW-Oshkosh Athletes of the Week program.

Each week throughout the 2011-12 school year, one male and one female UW-Oshkosh athlete will be recognized for their accomplishments from the previous week.

The award winners will be announced every Tuesday morning on the UW-Oshkosh athletics Web site.

Alan GermanBrittni WirtzUniversity Books & More and the Wisconsin National Guard are pleased to announce that Alan German (Sr. • West Bend) of the men's track and field team and Brittni Wirtz (Fr. • Sobieski) of the women's track and field squad have been chosen as the UW-Oshkosh Athletes of the Week for the period of January 30-February 5

German won the 60-meter hurdles as UW-Oshkosh finished fourth in the team standings at the UW-Whitewater Warhawk Classic held Feb. 3.

German defeated 21 other contestants in the 60-meter hurdles with his time of 8.34 seconds.  His performance tied the Kachel Fieldhouse record.  UW-Whitewater’s Mike Judd finished second to German with a time of 8.35.

German also finished fourth in the long jump with a leap of 22-11.

UW-La Crosse won the seven-team meet with 68 points, while UW-Whitewater placed second with 129, North Central College (Ill.) third with 120.5 and UW-Oshkosh fourth with 91.5.

Wirtz won a pair of running events as UW-Oshkosh captured the team title at the UW-Whitewater Warhawk Classic held Feb. 4.

Wirtz defeated 30 other participants in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.92 seconds. Her performance established a Kachel Fieldhouse record.  UW-Oshkosh’s Samantha Blue placed second with a time of 8.09.

Wirtz was the winner in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.68 seconds.  UW-Oshkosh’s Becklyn Hunter finished second among the event’s 33 contestants with a time of 26.72.

UW-Oshkosh won the six-team meet with 221 points, while North Central College (Ill.) finished second with 122.5 and UW-Whitewater third with 94.
