To be reminded of Jamie Ziegel's standard
of excellence and impact she had while playing softball at UW-Oshkosh, one has
to look no further than the school records.
Ziegel was a four-year letter winner who played during the 1984
and 1986-1988 seasons, including the WWIAC championship team of 1984 and the NCAA
Division III Tournament teams of 1987 and 1988. Ziegel missed most of the 1985
season, when the Titans won the WWIAC championship and participated in the NCAA
Division III tournament, due to an injury. She is the holder of seven school career
records, including batting average at .357, hits with 168, runs with 91, runs
batted in with 104, at-bats with 471, doubles with 31 and triples with 15.
Ziegel's softball career at UW-Oshkosh included being named
to the NCAA Division III All-Region team in 1984, 1986-1988 and the All-WWIAC
team from 1986-1988.

During the 1987 season she became the first player
in school history to hit .400 in a season. After the season, she would receive
NCAA Division III All-America honors.
In addition to her school career records, Ziegel
is also the holder of five school season records, including hits with 51, runs
with 39, runs batted in with 37, doubles with 16 and triples with seven.
The highlight of Ziegel's college career came in
1988 when the Titans won the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional to earn UW-Oshkosh's
first berth to the national tournament. Her biggest disappointment came soon after
when a knee injury forced her to miss playing in the event. However, she admits
it was exciting for her to see the team rally around her injury and play so well,
finishing sixth in the NCAA Division III Tournament with a 22-15 record.
A Wausau native, Ziegel's talent was recognized
early at Wausau West High School, where she received three varsity letters in
softball and two in basketball.
Ziegel's love of softball continues today, where
she currently serves on the board of directors for the Wausau Area Softball Association.
She was the Women's League Director in 1990. Ziegel also spends her spare time
helping with the Wausau Chamber of Commerce.
Ziegel graduated from UW-Oshkosh in 1988 with a
bachelor's degree in business and human resource management. In 1990, she married
Tim Thomas. Currently, she is enjoying the independence of working as an agent
with American Family Insurance. |
