Titans Drop Road Contest To Yellowjackets

The Yellowjackets (13-9/7-6 WIAC) remained in fourth place and improved their chances of reaching the league tournament. Dustin Ritchie paced the squad with 11 rebounds, to go with 13 points from Bronson Byrne and 10 points from Ben Aalfs.

UW-Oshkosh (4-17/0-12 WIAC) struggled with 30 percent (18-60) shooting from the field. The Titans were making a nation-best 82 percent of their free throws, but they converted just 7-of-12 for 58 percent. Greg Schrimpf (Sr. • Manitowoc) led the visitors with 13 points, while Jade Royston (So. • Wisconsin Dells) tallied 11 points and Sean Wise (Jr. • Wautoma) seven points and six boards.

Cory Nickel (So. • Waupun) drained two three-pointers in the opening seven minutes to tie the score at 10. UW-Superior then came back with two Bauer lay-ups to take an 18-12 lead.

The Titans, playing without leading scorer and rebounder John Flanigan (Sr. • Oshkosh), pulled within 20-19 on a Marcus Ray (Sr. • Winneconne) basket. Byrne was quite active in the final 2:30 of the half, posting a lay-up, offensive rebound and free throw to give the Yellowjackets a 27-22 cushion.

Schrimpf knocked down a trio of triples during the second period as UW-Oshkosh rallied to take a 34-32 lead. Adam Hjelter ended that momentum with a deep jumper and UW-Superior marked a 10-1 scoring run. Jarrod Peterson connected from mid-range to put the home squad ahead, 42-35, with 11:28 to play.

After Wise sank a bucket to make UW-Oshkosh’s deficit 42-40, Byrne converted three straight free throws. Bauer swished a three-point shot and the Yellowjackets stretched their advantage to 50-42 at the 5:22 mark. UW-Superior thrived the last four minutes by going 10-for-10 at the foul line.

The Yellowjackets totaled 18-of-24 accuracy (75 percent) at the charity stripe, to go with 48 percent marksmanship (21-44) from the field and 33 percent (4-12) success from downtown.

Owning a 7-0 advantage in steals, UW-Oshkosh also grabbed 18 offensive rebounds. The Titans connected on eight of their 19 three-point attempts (42 percent) while turning the ball over 10 times.

Blugolds Storm Back To Defeat Titans

Chad MathwigCory NickelJade RoystonUW-Eau Claire came back from 19 points down to record an 81-74 triumph over the UW-Oshkosh men’s basketball team on Wednesday (Feb. 1) in Kolf Sports Center.

The Blugolds (14-7/6-6 WIAC) left Oshkosh with a victory for the first time since 1995 after outscoring the Titans, 45-26, in the second half. UW-Eau Claire shot 64 percent (14-22) from the field during the final period, while UW-Oshkosh posted 30 percent (7-23) accuracy.

In the opening 20 minutes, the Titans (4-16/0-11 WIAC) played their best half of the season and obtained a 48-36 lead. Cory Nickel (So. • Waupun) buried a pair of early three-point shots, and Jade Royston (So. • Wisconsin Dells) sank two free throws to give UW-Oshkosh a 20-11 advantage. Both Nickel and Royston finished with a team-high 16 points.

UW-Oshkosh extended its margin with a 12-2 scoring run. After a lay-in and three-point play by John Flanigan (Sr. • Oshkosh), Chad Mathwig (Fr. • New Berlin) counted four points to make it 32-15. When Royston swished a long jumper at the four-minute mark, the Titans owned their largest lead of 44-25.

Three-pointers from Dustin Kalien and Jordan Petersen sliced into that deficit before halftime. The Blugolds then made five field goals in the opening 3:33 of the second half to pull within 52-46. UW-Oshkosh momentarily fought off that rally with a Nickel three-pointer to go ahead, 63-55.

James Pfitzinger compiled four points midway through the closing period to make it a tight score. After Lewis Mau drained a three-point shot with 6:52 remaining, the score was tied at 66. A Petersen jumper from behind the three-point arc put UW-Eau Claire up for good at 74-72.

The Titans didn’t make a field goal in the last 6:08, missing all eight of their shots. They finished at 43 percent (23-53) overall, including 40 percent (8-20) behind the three-point line. UW-Oshkosh, which leads the NCAA Division III in free-throw shooting, made 80 percent (20-25) of its attempts at the foul line. The Titans committed just one turnover in the first half and ended up with seven.

Five UW-Oshkosh players cracked double figures, including the 10-point, seven-rebound performance by Mathwig. Flanigan tallied 14 points, while Dylan Wurtz (So. • Kimberly) contributed 11 points and Royston five assists.

UW-Eau Claire posted a 39-21 advantage in rebounds thanks to 10 from Nick Craggs. Petersen topped his squad with 22 points and four assists, to go with 16 points by Craggs and 13 points by Pfitzinger. The Blugolds totaled 51 percent (25-49) field goal shooting, 36 percent (5-14) accuracy on three-point attempts and 77 percent (26-34) marksmanship at the charity stripe.

Titans Troubled By Eagles' Three-Point Shooting

John FlaniganCory NickelJade RoystonSeven players dialed in from long distance as UW-La Crosse made 11-of-16 three-point shots (68.8 percent) during its 72-52 men’s basketball victory over UW-Oshkosh on Saturday (Jan. 28) in La Crosse.

UW-La Crosse used six three-point baskets (10 attempts), including two by both Jack Taylor and Luke Tweed, to take a 42-31 lead to intermission. The Eagles made five three-point shots (six attempts), including two by Derek Braucht, to outscore the Titans, 30-21, in the second half.

Tweed scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead UW-La Crosse (13-6/5-5 WIAC) in both categories. The Eagles also received 12 points from Taylor, 10 points and three rebounds from Al Chery and eight points and three rebounds from Braucht.

UW-Oshkosh (4-15/0-1 WIAC) was paced by the 11 points, five rebounds and two assists of Jade Royston (So. • Wisconsin Dells). The Titans also collected 11 points and three rebounds from John Flanigan (Sr. • Oshkosh), eight points and four rebounds from Cory Nickel (So. • Waupun) and eight points from Greg Schrimpf (Sr. • Manitowoc).

The Titans were strong during the first four minutes of play. Flanigan buried a three-point shot on the opening possession and Dylan Wurtz (So. • Kimberly) sank a lay-up to give UW-Oshkosh a 7-2 lead.

UW-La Crosse then went on a 19-4 scoring run, including two three-point baskets by Tweed and one by Taylor, to take a 21-11 advantage with 12:52 left in the first half. UW-Oshkosh cut its deficit to 29-25, but UW-La Crosse scored the next eight points to take a 37-25 lead with 3:21 remaining before the break.

UW-La Crosse opened the second half with a 17-3 scoring run, including five points by Braucht. The Eagles built a 59-34 lead before the Titans sliced their deficit to 62-44 with 7:21 to go. UW-La Crosse wouldn’t let the margin get any closer as Braucht and Johnny Coenen each swished a three-point shot to help the Eagles again pull away.

UW-Oshkosh was held to 30.9 percent (17-55) shooting from the field, including just 23.5 (4-17) behind the three-point arc. The Titans drained 14 of their 17 free throws (82.4 percent) while grabbing 34 rebounds and committing eight turnovers.

UW-La Crosse used their three-point shooting to mark 50 percent (28-56) accuracy from the field. The Eagles recorded 38 rebounds, committed just seven turnovers while shooting only 41.7 percent (5-12) from the free-throw line.

Pioneers Prevail In Overtime Against Titans

John FlaniganCory NickelGreg SchrimpfBrett Stangel drained seven three-pointers to help UW-Platteville overcome a 16-point deficit in its 74-69 overtime win against the UW-Oshkosh men’s basketball team on Wednesday (Jan. 25) in Platteville.

The Pioneers (11-8/5-5 WIAC) scored a 6-0 run to begin both the second half and overtime. In the extra session, Stangel and Chas Cross hit lay-ups to take a 66-62 lead. The Titans (4-14/0-9 WIAC) turned the ball over five times in the final five minutes to end any hopes of a victory.

Stangel totaled 27 points on the strength of his school-record seven triples. Cross added 26 points and eight rebounds for the Pioneers, who made 20 free throws (80-percent accuracy) and got seven assists from Rob Stallion.

John Flanigan (Sr. • Oshkosh) became the 29th man in UW-Oshkosh history to score 1,000 career points. Flanigan counted 17 points and 12 rebounds in the game, while Greg Schrimpf (Sr. • Manitowoc) opened 5-of-5 behind the arc on his way to 19 points. The Titans booked a season-best 12 three-pointers with 57 percent efficiency (21 attempts).

Jim Stocki buried three free throws early to tie the score at 11. UW-Oshkosh then used a jumper by Flanigan, five points by Jade Royston (So. • Wisconsin Dells) and a triple from Cory Nickel (So. • Waupun) to lead, 23-13, with 8:23 on the clock.

Two more long-range buckets by Schrimpf and a three-pointer from Nickel made it a 39-23 margin. The Pioneers then tallied 13 unanswered points, with a Cross triple cutting their deficit to 39-30 at the break.

Cross counted a lay-in and two foul shots as UW-Platteville kept rallying after halftime. The Titan advantage was completely gone when Cross drove for two points and made it 43-43 with 14:30 remaining in the second period.

Schrimpf dialed up another basket from long range to put UW-Oshkosh ahead, 49-47. That cushion reached six (55-49), but Stangel nailed consecutive three-pointers to tie the game with six minutes left. The game went to overtime after Flanigan’s three-ball equaled the score with 1:03 on the clock.

The Titans ended with 51 percent shooting (24-47) and 9-of-11 success (82 percent) at the charity stripe. Mario Johnson (Jr. • Milwaukee) paced the squad with five assists, but UW-Oshkosh couldn’t overcome its 20 giveaways.

Shooting 40 percent (23-58) overall, UW-Platteville turned the ball over nine times. The Pioneers grabbed 12 offensive rebounds and knocked down 8-of-21 three-pointers (38 percent).

Fifth-Ranked Warhawks Streak Past Titans

John FlaniganCory NickelDylan WurtzUW-Whitewater opened the second half with a 20-2 scoring run to punctuate its 62-45 victory over the UW-Oshkosh men’s basketball team on Wednesday (Jan. 18) in Kolf Sports Center. The Warhawks (16-1/7-1 WIAC) entered the contest ranked fifth by D3hoops.com.

After holding a 30-26 halftime cushion, UW-Whitewater got a three-pointer from Cody Odegaard on its first possession. Luke Knoble then sandwiched two baskets around a dunk by Alex Edmunds. Lucas Burns knocked down two more deep jumpers as the Warhawks stretched their advantage to 50-28 with 11:37 remaining.

John Flanigan (Sr. • Oshkosh) posted two lay-ups and Dylan Wurtz (So. • Kimberly) drained a triple to get UW-Oshkosh within 54-38. Wurtz then counted two more hoops in the closing minutes to finish with 11 points. Flanigan added 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Titans (4-13/0-8 WIAC), who also received eight points from Cory Nickel (So. • Waupun).

UW-Whitewater had five players reach double-digits, led by 14 points and 10 boards from Edmunds. Eric Bryson had a stellar all-around game with 10 points, seven assists and three steals. Knoble marked 12 points and Burns 10 points for the Warhawks, who committed just seven turnovers.

The visiting Warhawks held the Titans scoreless for the opening 7:26. While UW-Oshkosh missed nine straight shots, UW-Whitewater got a lay-in from four different players to make it 8-0. Nickel and Martell Hutchinson (Jr. • Milwaukee) then drained consecutive three-pointers from the same spot to battle back.

Flanigan sank an inside attempt as the Titans booked eight of the game’s next 10 points to reach a 14-13 deficit. Odegaard and Bryson then connected from downtown to stretch the margin to seven points (22-15). Hutchinson later gave UW-Oshkosh a highlight when he chased down Quardell Young and stuffed his breakaway dunk attempt.

The Warhawks, who rank second in the nation in shooting (52 percent), hit 26-of-53 overall for 49 percent accuracy. They added 7-of-15 conversions (47 percent) from three-point range and 3-of-5 free throws (60 percent) to capture their eighth straight contest.

Despite slow starts to each half, UW-Oshkosh totaled 40 percent (17-43) shooting from the field, 31 percent (4-13) from long range and 78 percent (7-9) at the foul line. The Titans had 15 turnovers on the night.

UW-Oshkosh travels to UW-Platteville next Wednesday (Jan. 25).

Blue Devils Notch Wire-To-Wire Win Over Titans

The Blue Devils (6-10/1-6 WIAC) gained an early 9-2 advantage and held at least a five-point cushion for the rest of the game. Alex Oman paced the squad with 19 points, while Thomas Scholle-Malone tallied 13 points and Aaron Jenny 11 points and seven rebounds. UW-Stout made 55 percent (29-53) of its field goals in the effort.

John Flanigan (Sr. • Oshkosh) counted 17 points for the Titans (4-12/0-7 WIAC), who also had Cory Nickel (So. • Waupun) mark 14 points and Chad Mathwig (Fr. • New Berlin) eight boards. UW-Oshkosh shot 39 percent (20-52) from the field and couldn’t overcome its 36-26 deficit in rebounding.

During the game’s opening 82 seconds, Tim Butina knocked down two jumpers for a 4-0 lead. Oman then put in a three-pointer and lay-up to make it 15-5. The Blue Devils’ 17-7 scoring run concluded with a Jenny tip-in that made it 26-11 midway through the first half.

UW-Oshkosh slowly chipped away with a pair of free throws by both Flanigan and Martell Hutchinson (Jr. • Milwaukee). Nickel drained a jump shot two minutes before the break to pull within seven points (28-21). UW-Stout held a 37-23 margin at intermission following a buzzer-beating triple by Oman.

In the second period, Greg Schrimpf (Sr. • Manitowoc) sank a bucket and foul shot before Mathwig added two lay-ins for a 45-34 deficit. Nickel fired two more shots from downtown and hit them to make it a 49-42 ballgame with 12:21 on the clock.

Consecutive jumpers by Flanigan pulled UW-Oshkosh within five (55-50) at the 6:42 mark, but that’s as close as it would get. Scholle-Malone broke away for a dunk and the Blue Devil defense allowed just five points over the last six minutes.

The Titans struggled from both three-point range at 24 percent (4-17) and the charity stripe at 69 percent (11-16). With both teams committing 10 turnovers, UW-Stout posted 40 percent accuracy (4-10) on three-pointers and 47 percent (7-15) marksmanship on free throws.

Blugolds Rally Late To Down Titans

John FlaniganJade RoystonDylan WurtzNick Craggs made 11-of-12 shots for 26 points as UW-Eau Claire topped the UW-Oshkosh men’s basketball team, 79-67, on Wednesday (Jan. 11) in Eau Claire.

Craggs, who was shooting 41 percent for the season, made his final nine field goals of the contest. The Blugolds (10-5/3-4 WIAC) were efficient across the board, making 52 percent (28-54) from the field, 50 percent (9-18) from three-point range and 88 percent (14-16) at the foul line.

UW-Oshkosh (4-11/0-6 WIAC) held a 60-58 lead after Mario Johnson’s (Jr. • Milwaukee) three-pointer with 5:14 remaining. Jordan Petersen then lifted the Blugolds with back-to-back triples to go ahead, 71-63. UW-Eau Claire outscored the Titans, 16-4, during the final 3:32.

John Flanigan (Sr. • Oshkosh) counted 16 points for UW-Oshkosh, which also received 11 points from Greg Schrimpf (Sr. • Manitowoc) and nine rebounds from Chad Mathwig (Fr. • New Berlin). Johnson chipped in with eight points and five assists. The Titans finished with 40 percent (23-58) shooting, but they nailed 10-of-21 three-pointers (48 percent) and 11-of-13 free throws (85 percent).

UW-Eau Claire compiled an 11-10 advantage after the first five minutes of play. The Blugolds then marked six baskets by six different players, using a Craggs bucket to lead 24-23 with 6:43 on the clock. Craggs made three more hoops in the last 1:38 to gain a 38-30 halftime cushion.

The Titans repeatedly got to the charity stripe as they hung around in the second half. A long-range jumper by Dylan Wurtz (So. • Kimberly) cut the deficit to 45-39 at the 16:08 mark. UW-Oshkosh used six more free throws to pull within 52-47 with 9:14 to go.

Schrimpf buried consecutive three-balls to begin an 11-2 comeback run. Making an inside shot with 6:14 left, Schrimpf pulled the Titans to a 58-57 deficit. Johnson later converted his three-pointer for the lead after UW-Oshkosh grabbed two offensive rebounds.

Craggs also paced the Blugolds with six boards, while Peterson totaled 17 points. Nick Bartlett added 11 points for UW-Eau Claire, which committed just six turnovers.

The Titans were able to hang in the game thanks to a 14-6 edge in offensive rebounds. They got five boards from Flanigan to post an overall margin of 35-28.

Titans Unable To Capture Eagles

John FlaniganJade RoystonDylan WurtzCory Degner tallied 16 of his 23 points during the second half to give UW-La Crosse a 75-69 men’s basketball victory over UW-Oshkosh on Saturday (Jan. 7) in Kolf Sports Center.

With the Eagles holding a 56-54 lead, Degner scored three straight baskets to give his team a 62-56 advantage with 5:21 left to play. Degner’s 23 points established a career-high and were seven points better than any other player in the contest.

Following the game-clinching 10-2 scoring run, UW-La Crosse maintained at least a five-point margin for the final 5:21. The Eagles knocked down 11-of-14 free throws to clinch the win. UW-La Crosse (11-3/3-2 WIAC) finished the contest shooting 66.7 percent (14-21) from the free-throw line.

The game included nine ties, and the score was close for the first 13 minutes of action. Following a Dylan Wurtz (So. • Kimberly) three-point basket, Braden Tice drilled two long-range shots of his own to give UW-La Crosse a 10-4 lead. Wurtz tacked on another three-pointer and a free throw to tie the score at 16 with 10:32 on the clock.

Five different Titans scored during a 15-4 run that gained some breathing room. John Flanigan (Sr. • Oshkosh) scored inside to give UW-Oshkosh a 30-22 lead, and Chad Mathwig (Fr. • New Berlin) converted a three-point play to increase the Titans' advantage to 36-24.

UW-Oshkosh led 36-31 at halftime and extended its lead to 41-35 on a Jade Royston (So. • Wisconsin Dells) lay-up. Degner and Logan Ellman then drove for lay-ins, and Lucas Collom added two short jumpers to give UW-La Crosse a 43-41 lead. The contest was eventually tied at 54 before the Eagles pulled away.

Degner's effort included four rebounds and four assists. The Eagles also received 12 points, seven rebounds and three steals from Al Chery and eight points from both Tice and Michael Barrett.

UW-La Crosse committed a season-low seven turnovers while shooting 50 percent (29-58) from the field. The Eagles shot 25 percent (3-12) behind the three-point line.

UW-Oshkosh (4-10./0-5 WIAC) was paced by Flanigan's 16 points, four rebounds and four assists. Royston added 13 points and seven rebounds, while Wurtz contributed 13 points and five rebounds and Mathwig eight points, four rebounds and three assists.

The Titans posted shooting percentages of 52 (26-50) from the field, 45 (9-20) behind the three-point arc and 72.7 (8-11) from the free-throw line. UW-Oshkosh won the rebounding battle, 29-28, and committed 16 turnovers.

Yellowjackets Overcome Slow Start To Defeat Titans

John FlaniganGreg SchrimpfDylan WurtzAdam Hjelter scored 16 points, including a tiebreaking three-point basket, as UW-Superior registered a 71-64 triumph over the UW-Oshkosh men’s basketball team on Wednesday (Jan. 4) in Kolf Sports Center.

After the Titans (4-9/0-4 WIAC) led for the majority of the first half, the Yellowjackets (9-5/3-2 WIAC) equaled the score at 40 with 15 minutes left. Hjelter then drained a deep jumper that gave UW-Superior a lead it would never surrender. Ben Aalfs, who marked game-highs of eight rebounds and six assists, added another three-point basket soon after to extend the Yellowjackets' cushion.

Making 6-of-7 shots from the field, Hjelter came off the bench to also tally two assists and one steal. The Yellowjackets had three other double-figure scorers as Aalfs counted 12 points, Bronson Byrne 14 and Brendan Bauer 12. Bauer also contributed eight rebounds and one steal.

The Titans were strong out of the gate, posting a 12-2 advantage after five minutes of action. Jade Royston (So. • Wisconsin Dells) connected from three-point range, and Dylan Wurtz (So. • Kimberly) swished three more deep jumpers to put UW-Oshkosh ahead 22-15 with 8:29 on the clock.

UW-Superior, which defeated UW-Oshkosh for the fourth time in five meetings, closed the gap on 10 straight points by Bauer. Bauer converted three jump shots and two lay-ups to cut the Yellowjackets' deficit to 27-25. UW-Oshkosh held a 30-28 lead at intermission.

The Yellowjacket comeback utilized 60.7 percent (17-28) shooting from the field in the second half. Following a three-point basket by Aalfs, Hjelter converted a three-point play to put UW-Superior ahead 49-44. John Flanigan (Sr. • Oshkosh) would hit a jumper and two free throws to make it 61-59 with four minutes remaining, but the Titans couldn’t finish their comeback bid.

Flanigan led UW-Oshkosh with 22 points. He made 9-of-12 shots from the field and all four free throws while grabbing four rebounds and dishing off three assists. The Titans also received 13 points, three rebounds and three steals from Greg Schrimpf (Sr. • Manitowoc), 11 points and two rebounds from Wurtz and eight points, six rebounds and three assists from Chad Mathwig (Fr. • New Berlin).

UW-Oshkosh shot 39.3 percent (22-56) from the field, including 36.4 (8-22) behind the three-point arc. The Titans made 12 of their 13 free throws for 92.3 percent accuracy. UW-Oshkosh collected 25 rebounds and turned the basketball over 10 times.

UW-Superior finished the contest shooting 52.7 percent (29-55) from the field. The Yellowjackets shot 31.6 percent (6-19) behind the three-point arc and 77.8 percent (7-9) from the charity stripe. UW-Superior grabbed 35 rebounds and committed 12 turnovers.

Pioneer Duo Spoils Titans' New Year's Eve

John FlaniganCVhad MathwigGreg SchrimpfAlec Molter’s inside game and Caleb Zeegers’ outside shooting propelled Carroll University to a 77-71 men’s basketball victory over UW-Oshkosh on Saturday (Dec. 31) in Kolf Sports Center.

Molter muscled his way to 25 points and 13 rebounds, while Zeegers came off the bench and made four three-pointers. After totaling eight points in the Pioneers’ first seven contests, Zeegers scored 14 points in 14 minutes of play. Carroll University (4-4) closed out the game with 11 free throws in the final 50 seconds.

For UW-Oshkosh (4-8), John Flanigan (Sr. • Oshkosh) totaled a career-high 32 points, along with 14 rebounds, five assists and four steals. Greg Schrimpf (Sr. • Manitowoc) tacked on 10 points, as Chad Mathwig (Fr. • New Berlin) supplied nine points and six rebounds.

Neither team led by more than five points during a first half that included five ties. Molter dominated the opening three minutes, scoring three baskets inside. Flanigan answered with three straight lay-ups to equal the score at 8.

UW-Oshkosh used Schrimpf’s three-point basket and Martell Hutchinson’s (Jr. • Milwaukee) lay-up to grab a 15-10 lead midway through the first half. Carroll University rallied to tie the score, but Flanigan finished another basket with the foul. The Titans went on to take a 26-24 advantage to intermission.

The squads were separated by less than five points for the first 35 minutes. UW-Oshkosh counted five three-point plays during the second period, including Flanigan’s that earned the Titans a 33-31 lead with 14:47 remaining.

The Pioneers went in front for good at 40-39. Zeegers then made his statement with three long-range jumpers in a span of 80 seconds. The final connection made it a 51-47 score with 8:28 to play.

Committing several fouls, the Titans battled to come back. While Carroll University continued hitting its free throws, UW-Oshkosh got to 69-68 with 21 seconds left. Jake Bast then drained four foul shots to seal the outcome and clinch the Pioneer's first win over the Titans in seven meetings.

Carroll University prevailed thanks to a 40-29 edge in rebounds. The Pioneers shot 45.6 percent (26-57) from the field, 80 percent (20-25) from the free-throw line and 29.4 percent (5-17) behind the three-point arc. Carroll University had 14 turnovers.

UW-Oshkosh shot 40 percent (24-60) from the field, but just 16.7 (3-18) behind the three-point arc. The Titans improved their nation-leading free throw accuracy by making 20-of-22 attempts (90.9 percent). UW-Oshkosh turned the basketball over 12 times.

Falcons Top Titans In Wisconsin Dells Battle

It was the first collegiate contest held at the JustAgame Fieldhouse.

Trailing 68-67 with 5:57 remaining, Schneider drained two foul shots to put the Falcons ahead. The teams then exchanged lay-ups to make it a 73-70 score with one minute left. UW-Oshkosh (4-7) had two attempts to tie the game, but it missed a three-pointer and turned the ball over. Concordia University Wisconsin (8-3) then used three free throws by Schneider to take the first meeting between these schools since the 1996-97 season.

Schneider and Luke Doedens each scored 16 points to pace Concordia University Wisconsin, while Matt Paluchniak tallied 12 points and three assists. Doedens also contributed seven rebounds, four steals and two assists. The Falcons received 11 points from David Lopez and nine points and nine rebounds from Erik Condia.

The first half was a tight affair, with UW-Oshkosh holding an 8-6 lead after six minutes of play. The Titans then relied on their long-range shooting, getting two three-point baskets by Cory Nickel (So. • Waupun) to tie the score at 16. Lopez then scored five consecutive points midway through the period to give Concordia University Wisconsin a 24-22 lead.

A pair of three-pointers from Dylan Wurtz (So. • Kimberly) regained a 31-30 advantage for the Titans. However, the final 4:30 of the first half belonged to Concordia University Wisconsin as it registered a 15-3 scoring run. Doedens and Schneider each booked five points during the streak that gave the Falcons a 45-34 advantage at intermission.

Concordia University Wisconsin extended its lead to 50-36 with 18:42 to play. UW-Oshkosh then outscored the Falcons, 30-11, over the next 11 minutes. Wurtz got things going with two three-point baskets, and hometown hero Jade Royston (So. • Wisconsin Dells) swished a three-point attempt of his own. John Flanigan (Sr. • Oshkosh) posted 10 points during the scoring run, including a bucket that gave the Titans a 68-63 lead with 6:40 left.

Flanigan scored 25 points, as he eclipsed 16 for the 12th straight game. He also added five rebounds, three assists and two steals. The Titans also received 13 points and seven rebounds from Wurtz, 11 points from Royston and eight points and seven rebounds from Chad Mathwig (Fr. • New Berlin). Mario Johnson (Jr. • Milwaukee) had a game-high four assists.

UW-Oshkosh shot 40 percent (24-60) from the field and 68.2 percent (15-22) from the free-throw line. The Titans made 9-of-23 three-point shots for 39.1 percent accuracy.

Concordia University Wisconsin shot 46.7 percent (28-60) from the field and 76.5 percent (13-17) from the charity stripe. The Falcons converted on 29.2 percent (7-24) of their three-point shots.

Concordia University Wisconsin had 13 turnovers and UW-Oshkosh 16. The Titans won the rebounding battle, 38-34.

The Titans have a contest against Carroll University on Saturday (Dec. 31) in Kolf Sports Center.

Titans End Holiday Trip With Loss To Duhawks

UW-Oshkosh ended its three-game trip to Las Vegas with a 2-1 record after defeating the College of Mount St. Joseph (Ohio), 75-64, on Monday (Dec. 19) and Benedictine University (Ill.), 84-70, on Tuesday (Dec. 20).

The first 10 minutes of play were back-and-forth, including six ties. Following a three-point basket by Dylan Wurtz (So. • Kimberly), Martell Hutchinson (Jr. • Milwaukee) recorded two lay-ups and a dunk to give UW-Oshkosh an 18-17 lead.

After falling behind 20-19, Loras College (3-8) scored 23 of the game’s next 30 points. UW-Oshkosh (4-6) made 1-of-10 shots to close the half, while also committing seven turnovers. Marking nine points during the scoring run, Tim Kelly sank consecutive lay-ups to give the Duhawks a 42-27 lead with two minutes left in the opening period.

A total of 24 players scored in the game, with Kelly counting 32 points and six rebounds. Kelly made 9-of-11 shots from the field and all 11 free throws. Brian Gaughan added 12 points and three rebounds for the Duhawks, who took a 44-32 lead to intermission on 65.4 percent (17-26) shooting from the field.

The Titans got within 47-37 early in the second half, but they could never close the gap. Greg Schrimpf (Sr. • Manitowoc) drained a pair of long jumpers to make it a 56-42 UW-Oshkosh deficit with 14:52 remaining.

Kelly tallied 12 points during a 14-2 scoring run that put the contest out of reach. Following a three-point basket, Kelly drilled seven straight foul shots, with his final conversion putting the Duhawks ahead 81-55 with 6:04 left.

John Flanigan (Sr. • Oshkosh) paced the Titans with his 16 points and five rebounds. Hutchinson and Schrimpf both scored 11 points and Wurtz seven.

UW-Oshkosh shot 37.5 percent (21-56) from the field and 88.9 percent (24-27) from the free-throw line. The Titans were 5-of-19 shooting (26.3 percent) behind the three-point arc.

Loras College, which posted a 34-30 rebounding edge, shot 53.4 percent (31-58) from the field. The Duhawks shot 80 percent (16-20) from the free-throw stripe and 50 percent (9-18) from the three-point area.

UW-Oshkosh heads to Wisconsin Dells(JustAgame Fieldhouse) for a meeting with Concordia University Wisconsin next Thursday (Dec. 29).

Scoring Run Allows Titans To Put Eagles Away

The Eagles (3-7) trailed for the majority of the contest, but they posted a 24-8 scoring run to take a 44-43 lead with 14:37 to play. The Titans (4-5) then scored 15 straight points and held Benedictine University to one field goal during the next 8:25. Greg Schrimpf (Sr. • Manitowoc), who led all players with 19 points, hit two three-pointers during UW-Oshkosh's game-clinching scoring run.

Schrimpf buried another long-range jumper to make it 68-47 with 6:52 left. The Eagles closed to within nine points, 77-68, but three-point plays by Schrimpf and Martell Hutchinson (Jr. • Milwaukee) provided some breathing room for the Titans.

UW-Oshkosh had four other players score in double figures, including John Flanigan (Sr. • Oshkosh) who provided 16 points and 12 rebounds. Cory Nickel (So. • Waupun) followed with 14 points, while Hutchinson and Chad Mathwig (Fr. • New Berlin) each supplied 11. The Titans also received 10 rebounds from Jade Royston (So. • Wisconsin Dells) and six assists from Mario Johnson (Jr. • Milwaukee).

While Benedictine University opened the game shooting 2-of-10 from the field, UW-Oshkosh built a 17-6 lead. Flanigan started things with four free throws, and Nickel tacked on five straight points.

Three-point baskets from Dario Jokic and David Bernard pulled the Eagles to 17-14. The Titans then used Mathwig’s lay-up, jumper and two free throws to make it a 35-20 score. UW-Oshkosh took a 38-33 advantage to halftime.

Nate Green was a force for Benedictine University, totaling team-highs of 18 points, eight assists, seven rebounds and three steals. The Eagles also obtained 13 points and four rebounds from Mark Pace.

Benedictine University turned the basketball over only six times, but shot just 39.7 percent (25-63) from the field and 52.9 percent (9-17) from the free-throw line. The Eagles made 11-of-23 (47.8 percent) three-point shots to remain in the game.

UW-Oshkosh, which posted a commanding 47-26 advantage in rebounds, shot 47.4 percent (27-57) from the field and 42.1 percent (8-19) behind the three-point arc. The Titans, who committed 15 turnovers, made 22-of-24 (91.7 percent) free throws.

UW-Oshkosh concludes its trip to Las Vegas with a game against Loras College (Iowa) on Thursday (Dec. 22).

Titans Hunt Down Lions

UW-Oshkosh's John Flanigan (Sr. • Oshkosh) tallied 25 points to lead all players, while Chad Mathwig (Fr. • New Berlin) contributed 18 points, nine rebounds and three blocks. The Titans (3-5) also received 12 points and two assists from Greg Schrimpf (Sr. • Manitowoc) and 12 points and eight rebounds from Martell Hutchinson (Jr. • Milwaukee).

The College of Mount St. Joseph (5-5) never led in the contest, but the Lions remained close until there were 12 minutes left. UW-Oshkosh then scored 14 straight points to increase a seven-point lead to a 66-45 advantage. Mathwig made three baskets inside before Schrimpf drained consecutive three-point shots with 8:26 left on the clock.

The Lions hit 11 shots behind the three-point line, including four in the closing minutes. Johnny Bunker accounted for two of them as the College of Mount St. Joseph cut its deficit to the final score with two seconds left.

UW-Oshkosh built a 12-2 advantage during the first three minutes of the game. Andy Countryman then drained a three-point shot to bring the Lions back. After a lay-up by David Mann, the Titan lead was 22-20 with 10:45 left in the opening period.

Flanigan converted three free throws to increase the Titans' advantage to 32-25. The College of Mount St. Joseph answered with seven straight points, including five by Countryman, to tie the score at 32.

UW-Oshkosh led 38-35 at the break and stretched its lead to 10 points early in the second half. Flanigan had a three-point play, two lay-ups and two free throws to take the Titans' advantage to 52-42 with 13:17 remaining.

With Hutchinson adding eight rebounds and Flanigan five, UW-Oshkosh won the rebounding battle, 37-19. Both teams turned the basketball over 11 times.

UW-Oshkosh shot 52.8 percent (28-53) from the field, including 31.6 (6-19) behind the three-point line. The Titans made 13 of their 18 free throws (72.2 percent).

The College of Mount St. Joseph, a first-time opponent o UW-Oshkosh, shot 45.8 percent (22-48) from the field. The Lions also shot 75 percent (9-12) from the free-throw line and 42.3 percent (11-26) behind the three-point arc.

Mann totaled 22 points and four rebounds for the Lions, while Countryman added 19 points and David Lane seven points and five assists.

The Titans meet up with Benedictine University (Ill.) on Tuesday (Dec. 20) in Las Vegas.

Pioneers Post Wire-To-Wire Victory Over Titans

UW-Platteville (7-4/2-2 WIAC) bolted to an 8-0 lead and never trailed in the contest. Weik connected on 11-of-13 shots from the field and all six of his free throws. The Pioneers, who committed just four turnovers, also received 18 points, eight rebounds and six assists from Rob Stallion and 14 points and five assists from Brett Stangel.

While the Titans (2-5/0-3 WIAC) missed their opening four shots, Stallion sank a pair of lay-ups in the first two minutes. John Flanigan (Sr. • Oshkosh) and Greg Schrimpf (Sr. • Manitowoc) each delivered a three-point play to keep UW-Oshkosh within four points at 12-8.

Weik then took over, scoring 14 straight Pioneer points. He drained six consecutive field goals, including two three-point shots, to put his team ahead, 28-19. UW-Platteville got five late points at the charity stripe to take a 43-27 lead at halftime.

UW-Platteville's lead remained in double digits until the final three minutes of play. Martell Hutchinson (Jr. • Milwaukee) provided some instant offense, converting a jumper and lay-up to pull UW-Oshkosh within 56-43. Weik then drained a three-pointer and Brett Stangel a jump shot to stretch UW-Platteville's advantage to 69-47 with 8:26 remaining.

Using a number of baskets from the paint, UW-Oshkosh got as close as seven points. Mario Johnson (Jr. • Milwaukee) was able to drive in for two lay-ups while also assisting on five others baskets from close range. UW-Oshkosh pulled to 76-69 with 2:29 to play, but that’s as tight as the score would get.

Flanigan scored 30 points to surpass his career high for the second consecutive game. He made 11-of-16 shots from the field and all eight free throws while grabbing four rebounds and marking three steals. The Titans also received a career-best 16 points from Hutchinson and eight points each from Schrimpf, Chad Mathwig (Fr. • New Berlin) and Cory Nickel (So. • Waupun).

UW-Oshkosh shot 51.8 percent (29-56) from the field and 81.8 percent (18-22) from the free-throw line. The Titans were 4-of-15 shooting (26.7 percent) from the three-point area.

UW-Platteville won the rebounding battle, 35-22, while shooting 56.4 percent (31-55) from the field. The Pioneers shot 74.3 percent (26-35) from the free-throw line and 33.3 percent (3-9) behind the three-point arc.

UW-Oshkosh heads to Las Vegas (Nev.) for three games, beginning with the College of Mount St. Joseph (Ohio) on Monday (Dec. 19).

Falcons Prevail Over Titans In Double Overtime

The contest featured two overtime periods and 10 double-figure scorers. Manor, who tallied all 25 of his points after halftime, went the length of the court for a lay-up at the regulation buzzer. The basket tied the score at 84 after the Titans (2-4/0-2 WIAC) missed a free throw with four seconds left.

UW-Oshkosh got its first four points of the first overtime on foul shots. After a lay-up by Wade Guerin, Manor drained a free throw and a jumper to give the Falcons an 89-88 lead. Following a lay-up by UW-Oshkosh's Mario Johnson (Jr. • Milwaukee), UW-River Falls sent the game to another extra session on a free throw by Chris Palmer with 1:07 remaining. Both teams missed close-range shots down stretch, UW-Oshkosh's Chad Mathwig (Fr. • New Berlin) with 38 seconds left and Manor with one second to play.

UW-River Falls (6-2/2-0 WIAC) began the second overtime with a 6-0 scoring run. Manor compiled eight points in the period, including a lay-up to put the Falcons ahead 100-95 with 1:31 remaining. The Titans then turned the ball over and missed their next three shots to end any hope of a comeback.

John Flanigan (Sr. • Oshkosh) led UW-Oshkosh with a career-high 28 points. He also grabbed six rebounds, while Mathwig recorded 21 points and seven rebounds. Dylan Wurtz (So. • Kimberly) was an all-around contributor with 17 points, nine assists and four steals. His nine assists were the highest total by a Titan in more than eight years.

Palmer totaled 21 points and five rebounds, Taylor Peterson 20 points and two assists and Guerin 10 points and 13 rebounds for UW-River Falls. The Falcons, who shot 55.9 percent (38-68) from the field, clinched the barn burner on 56.3 percent (9-16) accuracy on three-point shots and 76.9 percent (20-26) marksmanship on free throws.

Both squads started on fire, with the Titans converting 10 of their first 13 shots from the field. Greg Schrimpf (Sr. • Manitowoc) splashed a trio of jumpers to help UW-Oshkosh gain a 22-16 lead. The Titans' lead grew as large as eight points (37-29), but 13 points by Ollie White helped the Falcons pull to within 45-42 at intermission.

A three-point basket from Palmer started the Falcons’ rally from a 56-48 deficit. Peterson later buried a three-point shot and Manor converted in the lane to tie the score at 58 with 13:18 on the clock. Wurtz responded with one of his five three-pointers, as UW-Oshkosh regained the lead and held a 75-68 cushion with six minutes to play.

Manor accounted for eight straight Falcon points during the last four minutes of regulation. His lay-up and two free throws pulled UW-River Falls within 83-82. UW-Oshkosh then committed two straight turnovers, missed a foul shot and allowed Manor’s coast-to-coast hoop at the horn.

The Titans finished the contest shooting 54.4 percent (37-68) from the field and 84.2 percent (16-19) from the free-throw line. The Titans sank nine of their 21 three-point shots (42.9 percent) and turned the basketball over 15 times. UW-Oshkosh lost the rebounding category, 35-30.

Fast Start Propels Nationally Ranked Pointers Past Titans

The Pointers (6-1/2-0 WIAC) entered the contest ranked 21st in the NCAA Division III by D3hoops.com.

UW-Oshkosh (2-3/0-1 WIAC) missed 8-of-9 shots and committed three turnovers as it registered just two points during the opening seven minutes of play. The Pointers’ early success featured eight straight points, with two long jumpers, by Trevor Hass. The closest the Titans got the rest of the game was a 61-52 deficit with 1:44 remaining.

John Flanigan (Sr. • Oshkosh) led UW-Oshkosh with 21 points, two rebounds and two steals, while Tyler Tillema paced UW-Stevens Point with 21 points, five rebounds, four steals and two assists. UW-Oshkosh also received 10 points from Greg Schrimpf (Sr. • Manitowoc) and eight points and 13 rebounds by Chad Mathwig (Fr. • New Berlin).

UW-Oshkosh pulled to within 21-11 after Schrimpf tallied a three-point play and Flanigan converted a short-range jumper. Tyler Tillema then scored eight unanswered points to give UW-Stevens Point a 38-19 lead at the 3:01 mark of the opening period.

After leading 40-23 at intermission, the Pointers stretched their advantage to 54-33 midway through the second half. Jordan Giordana got things started with three free throws before Joe Ritchay connected from long range. UW-Oshkosh eventually used a 16-5 scoring run, including five points from Jade Royston (So. • Wisconsin Dells), to make it a nine-point contest at 61-52.

UW-Stevens Point shot 46.2 percent (24-52) from the field, while holding the Titans to 35.8-percent (19-53) accuracy. The Pointers hit 82.4 percent (14-17) of their free throws and 21.1 percent (4-19) of their long-range attempts. UW-Oshkosh made just 1-of-16 (6.3 percent) three points shots, but took advantage of the charity stripe with 86.7-percent (13-15) marksmanship.

Despite losing the rebounding battle, 30-35, UW-Stevens Point was better in the turnover category, 7-12. Hass and Dan Tillema scored 12 points each for the Pointers, who pulled away early thanks to 59.3-percent (16-27) shooting in the opening half.

Titans Reign Over Regents

Dylan Wurtz (So. • Kimberly), who also grabbed six rebounds and dished off four assists, accounted for three early three-point baskets en route to a career-high 18 points. Chad Mathwig (Fr. • New Berlin) scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Titans, while John Flanigan (Sr. • Oshkosh) compiled 17 points, 11 rebounds and five assists. Martell Hutchinson (Jr. • Milwaukee) was the fourth UW-Oshkosh player in double-figure scoring with his 12 points.

The game’s first minute included a Wurtz jumper that gave UW-Oshkosh a lead it would never relinquish. Wurtz then dialed long distance three times to give the Titans a 17-10 advantage after 5:25 of play. Cory Nickel (So. • Waupun) and Greg Schrimpf (Sr. • Manitowoc) tacked on deep jumpers as UW-Oshkosh built a 28-17 lead midway through the opening half.

Rockford College (2-2) came back with seven straight points, including three by Paul Hall, to cut its deficit to 32-29. The Titans (2-2) then rallied with seven consecutive points of their own, as Mathwig’s three-point play helped increase their advantage to 41-31 at the break.

Another 7-0 run by the Regents got them as close as they would get at 48-44. Keith Conway dropped in two lay-ups to achieve the four-point deficit. UW-Oshkosh then went on a 9-2 scoring binge that Schrimpf capped with a three-point basket to make it 62-49 with 8:19 left.

The Titans, who led by eight-plus points for the final 10:50 of play, hit 54.9 percent (28-51) of their shots from the field. They added 47.1 percent (8-17) accuracy from three-point range and 74.1 percent (20-27) success at the foul line.

Making just 4-of-19 three-point shots (21.1 percent), the Regents finished at 41.5 percent (27-65) from the field. They were led by the 11 points of both Tory Minnifield and Dominique Walker. Danny Fair counted five rebounds and Hall four assists for Rockford College, which converted 10-of-14 free throws (71.4 percent).

The Regents recorded 10 steals, as UW-Oshkosh committed 15 turnovers. Rockford College gave the ball away nine times while losing the rebounding category, 36-28.

WIAC play begins when the Titans visit nationally ranked UW-Stevens Point on Dec. 7.

Titans Never Trail In Triumph Over Cardinals

Royston’s 21 points and eight rebounds were both career-bests, and he iced the game during the final 73 seconds. After seeing UW-Oshkosh's lead cut to 79-75, Royston drained his fifth three-pointer of the contest. He then grabbed the ensuing rebound and took it coast-to-coast for a lay-up to give the Titans an 84-75 cushion with 50 seconds left.

Mathwig was a dominant presence inside, totaling 24 points and eight rebounds for career highs. He made 7-of-8 shots from the field and 10-of-12 attempts from the free-throw line.

UW-Oshkosh (1-2) had three others contribute solid scoring, John Flanigan (Sr. • Oshkosh) with 16 points, Dylan Wurtz (So. • Kimberly) with 10 and Cory Nickel (So. • Waupun) with nine.

Both teams found the basket early, as the teams combined for five three-pointers in a two-minute span. LaMonte Hall nailed a pair of long-range shots for St. Mary’s University (0-3), while Royston connected twice from downtown to give UW-Oshkosh a 12-8 lead. Wurtz extended the Titans' advantage to 19-10 with a lay-up at the 13:17 mark.

A deep jumper by Pat Freeman brought the Cardinals within 19-17. Mathwig then responded with a three-point play and a bucket in the paint to help UW-Oshkosh go ahead, 24-19. Consecutive hoops by Martell Hutchinson (Jr. • Milwaukee) helped the Titans stretch their lead to 34-25 with 4:51 left in the first half.

UW-Oshkosh held a 44-36 edge at halftime and got 12 points by Flanigan to go up 59-46 with 15:13 remaining. The margin stayed in double digits until the Cardinals cut their deficit to 73-64 with 7:32 to play. UW-Oshkosh extended its lead to 79-68, but Saint Mary's University counted the next seven points to make it 79-75 with 1:46 left.

The Titans shot extremely well behind the three-point arc, sinking 11-of-23 attempts (47.8 percent). UW-Oshkosh also shot 52.5 percent (31-59) from the field and 90 percent (18-20) from the free-throw line. The Titans committed just eight turnovers and won the rebounding battle, 34-24.

Saint Mary's University was led by the 24 points and five rebounds of Michael Burfeind, 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists of Freeman and the 10 points, seven assists and four rebounds of Evan Pederson.

The Cardinals, who gave the ball away only three times, shot 45 percent (23-51) from the field. Saint Mary's University also shot 45.5 percent (5-11) from three-point range and 87.5 percent (28-32) from the charity stripe.

UW-Oshkosh meets up with Rockford College (Ill.) on Saturday (Nov. 26) in Kolf Sports Center.

Second-Ranked Vikings Pull Away From Titans

The Vikings (3-0) entered the contest ranked second in the NCAA Division III by D3hoops.com.

The Titans (0-2) held a 56-51 lead with 14 minutes remaining before Augustana College heated up. Brian DeSimone and George Dexter each made a basket after UW-Oshkosh committed turnovers. Despite 3-of-12 accuracy (25 percent) from three-point range on the night, the Vikings used consecutive triples by Bryant Voiles to take a 64-56 advantage at the 10:57 mark.

The margin grew as large as 13 points, but never less than seven, during the rest of the game. The Titans missed three free throws in a 63-second span, after missing only one in the first 35 minutes. Jade Royston (So. • Wisconsin Dells) buried a pair of late three-pointers, cutting the deficit to 75-67 with 3:21 remaining.

Both squads shot the ball well from the field, with Augustana College totaling 53.8 percent (28-52) and UW-Oshkosh 45.1 (23-51). The Vikings connected on 80.8 percent (21-26) of their free throws, while the Titans shot 81.8 (18-22) and 40 percent (8-20) behind the three-point line. Augustana College prevailed in the rebounding (30-24) and turnover (10-13) categories.

The Vikings made four straight lay-ups to earn an 8-2 lead in the opening period. Martell Hutchinson (Jr. • Milwaukee) then dropped in a lay-up and jumper to help tie the score at 10. Cory Nickel (So. • Waupun) drilled two shots behind the arc midway through the half to give UW-Oshkosh a 19-14 cushion.

After four straight UW-Oshkosh free throws, Augustana College responded to its eight-point deficit. The Vikings scored 10 unanswered points as part of a 17-4 run. Voiles registered four points before Chris Anderson converted in the paint to make it 31-31. A pair of foul shots by Kameron Norton put the visitors in front, 38-33, with 2:44 before intermission.

Royston swished a three-point shot to open the second half and bring the Titans within 44-43. The contest’s seventh – and final – tie came at 51. John Flanigan (Sr. • Oshkosh) sank a hoop at the 14-minute mark to give UW-Oshkosh its 56-51 margin.

Flanigan paced the Titans with 19 points, as Hutchinson racked up 12 points and a game-high seven rebounds. Royston compiled 14 points and five boards.

Augustana College featured 21 points from Voiles, 12 by Luke Scarlata and nine by DeSimone. Troy Rorer tallied three assists, three blocks and two steals, while DeSimone dished out four assists.

Titans Fall To Green Knights In Season Opener

For an eight-minute stretch in the closing period, UW-Oshkosh (0-1) missed 8-of-10 shots and committed six turnovers. The Green Knights (1-0) turned their 30-29 deficit into a 51-34 lead during that span. Brandon Gries and Paul Appleton each scored 17 points for St. Norbert College, a NCAA Division III postseason participant in each of the past two seasons.

The Green Knights had control of the game early, gaining an 11-4 cushion after five minutes of play. Appleton knocked down a pair of three-pointers, while Andrew Schwoerer recorded two free throws and a lay-up.

John Flanigan (Sr. • Oshkosh) helped the Titans claw back with two jump shots and two free throws. The comeback was complete when Greg Schrimpf (Sr. • Manitowoc) drained a three-point shot to make it 18-18 with four minutes on the clock. The two squads went to intermission tied at 25.

St. Norbert College's crucial stretch began with Garrett Thorn’s lay-in for a 31-30 advantage. Mitchell Cloghessy then posted three baskets in a two-minute span to lead, 44-32. Appleton contributed a hoop in the paint and from behind the arc, earning a 51-34 margin with 7:53 left.

The Green Knights drained 10 free throws in the last 3:47 to seal the game. While Gries got 11 of his points at the foul line, Schwoerer nailed 5-of-6 field goals for 13 points. St. Norbert totaled 41.7 percent (20-48) shooting from the field overall, despite 3-of-19 accuracy (15.8 percent) from long range. The Green Knights connected on 22-of-29 free throws (75.9 percent) and booked a 42-25 rebounding edge.

Also struggling behind the arc (4-of-21 for 19 percent), the Titans were better at the charity stripe with 90.9 percent (10-11) marksmanship. Flanigan topped the squad with 18 points and 10 rebounds, as Jade Royston (So. • Wisconsin Dells) marked 11 points. UW-Oshkosh shot 34 percent (18-53) from the field and committed 14 turnovers.
