UW-Oshkosh to Host
USA Masters Track & Field Championships
Spectators can witness a wide range of athletes and events when the 2009 USA Masters Outdoor Track & Field Championships come to Oshkosh on Thursday through Sunday (July 9-12) in J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.
UW-Oshkosh will serve as the host of the meet, which includes athletes from ages 30-95. Track events vary from 100 meters to 10,000 meters, while field events involve a complete slate of jumps and throws.
All events will take place at the Oshkosh Sports Complex (450 Josslyn Street, Oshkosh, WI, 54902), which recently was the home of the NCAA Division III Outdoor Men’s and Women’s Track & Field Championships in 2007 and 2008.
Nearly 1,000 athletes are expected compete in this year’s event, which is celebrating its 41st anniversary. Competitors will provide an extraordinary demonstration of speed, power, skill and endurance, showing that age is no barrier to lifetime fitness and competition. The public and media are invited to enjoy this year’s festivities.
Championships begin with the men’s 5,000-meter race for ages 65-99 on Thursday at 7:30 a.m. The first field event will be the hammer throw, for women ages 50-59 and 60-84, which kicks off at 9 a.m. Action begins at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The Oshkosh Sports Complex is home to J.J. Keller Field, a football/soccer field featuring synthetic turf. The field is one of the Midwest’s finest, along with Camp Randall Field and Lambeau Field. A second round of enhancements features a new plaza entrance, updated and expanded locker rooms for approximately 300 student-athletes, coaching offices and classrooms, and improved restroom facilities.
The Oshkosh Sports Complex is a unique collaboration between the Oshkosh Area School District, the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, the Unified Catholic Schools and the UW-Oshkosh Foundation. Based on economic impact models and other projections, it is anticipated that the complex will generate at least $25 million annually for the local economy.

Zupanc Named National Coach Of The Year
The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has selected UW-Oshkosh’s John Zupanc as its 2009 NCAA Division III Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year.
Zupanc guided the Titans to three significant victories this past outdoor season, including a first-place finish at the NCAA Division III Championship held May 21-23 in Marietta, Ohio. The USTFCCCA also named UW-Oshkosh as its winner of the NCAA Division III Outdoor Power Rankings and the NCAA Division III Al Carius Program of the Year Award.
Led by event champions Tony Baker (So. • Oshkosh) in the discus throw and Willy Kaul (Sr. • Menomonee Falls) in the 10,000-meter run, UW-Oshkosh scored 46 points to capture the team title at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championship. The Titans finished the meet with seven All-America performances, including a school-record tying effort in the 400-meter relay.
Zupanc has been a coach in the men’s cross country and men’s track and field programs at UW-Oshkosh since 1981. He was named head coach of men’s cross country in 1982 and head coach of men’s track and field in 2005.
Last March, Zupanc led UW-Oshkosh to a share of the team title at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championship. His cross country teams won NCAA Division III titles in 1988, 1989, 1990 and 2002.
During his tenure as head coach, Zupanc has tutored 82 NCAA Division III All-America performances, including 36 in cross country and 26 in outdoor track and field. He has coached five event champions in indoor track and field and three in outdoor track and field.
The latest NCAA Division III Coach of the Year Award is the third for Zupanc. The USTFCCCA previously honored Zupanc in indoor track and field in 2001 and in cross country in 2002.
Zupanc, a Monroe native, received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Wisconsin. He is married to Deb Vercauteren, the head women’s cross country and head women’s track and field coach at UW-Oshkosh.
The USTFCCCA also presented national NCAA Division III outdoor awards to Peter Kosgei (Men’s Track Athlete of the Year) of Hamilton College (N.Y.), Josh Lovell (Men's Field Athlete of the Year) of Linfield College (Ore.), Ashley Huston (Women's Field Athlete of the Year) of Hardin-Simmons University (Texas), Sumer Rohrs (Women's Track Athlete of the Year) of Frostburg State University (Md.) and Marcus Newsom (Women's Coach of the Year) of Wartburg College (Iowa). |
Titans Declared Champion Of NCAA Power Rankings
For the second time this men’s track and field season, UW-Oshkosh has been announced as champion of the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association’s NCAA Division III power rankings.
UW-Oshkosh, which won the indoor title with 161.93 points, earned a first-place outdoor score of 218.47 points. It was the Titans’ sixth top-five outdoor finish in seven years, including a second-place listing in 2007 and fourth-place mentions in 2003, 2005 and 2006. UW-Oshkosh placed fifth in 2004 and seventh in 2008.
The power rankings simulate dual meet competition between the nation's top collegiate track and field squads. A team's score is the sum of all points earned by that team in each event. Teams are allowed to select up to two athletes per event, and an athlete can only be used in a maximum of three events (not including relays). Only one relay team per event can be selected. Points are based on the team’s best marks in each event.
Augustana College (Ill.) finished second to UW-Oshkosh in the outdoor power rankings with 218.19 points. North Central College (Ill.) placed third with 215.79 points, while Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (Calif.) ranked fourth with 210.70 and UW-Stevens Point fifth with 210.69.
UW-Oshkosh captured the team title at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship held May 21-23 in Marietta, Ohio. The Titans also shared the team title with UW-La Crosse at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championship held March 13-14 in Terre Haute, Ind.
UW-Eau Claire won the women’s division of the outdoor power rankings.

UW-Oshkosh Wins Program Of The Year Award
The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association has announced UW-Oshkosh as its first winner of the NCAA Division III Al Carius Men’s Program of the Year Award.
UW-Oshkosh earned the top prize after winning a pair of NCAA Division III track and field titles and placing ninth nationally in cross country.
The Titans won their first national indoor track and field title on March 14, tying Program of the Year runner-up UW-La Crosse, and then captured their first national outdoor track and field title on May 23. UW-Oshkosh also placed ninth at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship on Nov. 22 to compile a final Program of the Year score of 11.5 points.
UW-La Crosse was just behind UW-Oshkosh in the standings with 12.5 points. UW-Stevens Point finished third in the competition with 38.5 points, while Whitworth University (Wash.) ranked fourth with 40.5 and North Central College (Ill.) fifth with 41.
The Al Carius Program of the Year Award is presented to the most outstanding NCAA Division III men’s cross country and track and field program. The award, named after North Central College's legendary coach, honors the institution that achieved the most success while competing at national meets in the sports of cross country, indoor track and field and outdoor track and field.
In order to be eligible for the award, teams must qualify for each of the three NCAA Division III national meets. Scoring is based on each team’s finish, with one point going to first place. The lowest combined score for all three championships determine the award winner.
Wartburg College (Iowa) was the winner of the Deb Vercauteren Women's Program of the Year Award.

Titans Capture First NCAA Outdoor Title
First-place performances by Tony Baker (So. • Oshkosh) in the discus throw and Willy Kaul (Sr. • Menomonee Falls) in the 10,000-meter run helped UW-Oshkosh capture the team title at the NCAA Division III Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championship held Thursday through Saturday (May 21-23) in Marietta, Ohio.
UW-Oshkosh scored 46 points to win its first NCAA Division III outdoor crown. Last March, the Titans tallied 32 points to share the NCAA Division III indoor title with UW-La Crosse.
Defending champion McMurry University (Texas) finished second to UW-Oshkosh with 40 points. University of St. Thomas (Minn.) placed third with 39 points, while Salisbury University (Md.) ranked fourth with 28 and UW-La Crosse fifth with 26.
Rounding out the top 10 teams were sixth-place Trinity University (Texas) and Whitworth University (Wash.) with 23 points, eighth-place Buena Vista University (Iowa) with 21 points and ninth-place Hamilton College (N.Y.) and UW-Whitewater with 20. A total of 81 teams scored points at this year's championship.
The ninth-seeded Baker won the discus competition with a distance of 165-8. Shaun Davis of UW-Whitewater finished second with a mark of 165-4. Baker earned another All-America award with his fifth-place cast of 176-1 in the hammer throw. Bryan Kolacz of Keene State College (N.H.) took first place in the hammer throw with a toss of 201-8.
Kaul became the first person in UW-Oshkosh history to record four All-America performances in the same running event when he won the 10,000-meter run with a time of 30:54.56. Ricky Flynn of Lynchburg College (Va.) finished second to the top-seeded Kaul with a time of 30:57.71. Kaul also placed third in the 10,000-meter run in 2008, fifth in 2007 and fourth in 2006.
Kaul picked up another All-America mention with his fourth-place time of 14:46.38 in the 5,000-meter run. Peter Kosgei of Hamilton College (N.Y.) won the event with a time of 14:39.03. It was Kaul's first All-America performance in the 5,000-meter run.
Ben Zill (Jr. • New Franken) and James Simms (Jr. • Fedonia) earned All-America status for the second straight year by placing second in the 400-meter hurdles and fifth in the triple jump with efforts of 52.07 and 49-0 3/4, respectively. Cory Beebe of Salisbury University won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 51.44, while Chrys Jones of Centre College (Ky.) won the triple jump with a distance of 50-3 1/4. Zill and Simms finished fourth in their respective events a year ago.
UW-Oshkosh tallied another All-America finish when the quartet of Chad Churchill (Jr. • Sheboygan), A.J. Hollanquest (Sr. • Wausau), Dean Jensen (Fr. • De Pere) and Brent Jude (Jr. • Milwaukee) placed fourth in the 400-meter relay with a school-record tying time of 41.19. The University of St. Thomas won the 400-meter relay with a time of 40.76.
UW-Oshkosh's Andrew McGuire (Sr. • Wisconsin Rapids) finished ninth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:08.71 to just miss earning All-America status.
Also representing UW-Oshkosh at the meet were Jude in the 100-meter dash and Pete Wheiland (So. • Slinger) in the shot put. Churchill, Hollanquest, Zill and Chris Lipke (So. • Wautoma) competed for the Titans in the 1,600-meter relay.
UW-Oshkosh has placed in the top five at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship five times. In addition to this year's first-place listing, the Titans also finished second at the meet in 1990, third in 2003 and fifth in both 1999 and 2000.
The latest NCAA Division III title was the 27th in UW-Oshkosh history. The Titans own eight NCAA Division III championships in women's outdoor track and field, six in women's indoor track and field, four in both men's and women's cross country, two in baseball and one each in women's basketball, men's indoor track and field and men's outdoor track and field.

Titans To Compete At NCAA Outdoor Championship

After winning the first men’s NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championship in school history a little over two months ago, UW-Oshkosh will attempt to capture its first Outdoor Track and Field Championship held Thursday (May 21) through Saturday (May 23) at Marietta College (Ohio) at Dom Drumm Stadium.
Teams from around the country will travel to Marietta for a chance to a take home the team title and 19 individual championships, two relay championships, as well as eight All-America awards in each of the 21 events. UW-Oshkosh will send seven individuals in nine events and two relay teams to the championship, including Willy Kaul (Sr. • Menomonee Falls), the reigning NCAA Division III United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Indoor Track Athlete of the Year.
Kaul will attempt to become the first person in UW-Oshkosh history to earn All-America honors four times in the same event when he competes in the 10,000-meter run. Kaul enters the event with the fastest qualifying time at 29:38.85. Previously, Kaul took third last year, fifth in 2007 and fourth in 2006.
Kaul also qualified for the 5,000-meter run for the fourth consecutive occasion with a season-best time of 14:07.72. Last year Kaul finished in 12th-place in a time of 15:01.35 after going down with four laps to go in the race. In 2007, he had to withdraw from the event due to injury and failed to make the top eight in 2006.
Other Titan athletes returning to the championship are A.J. Hollanquest (Sr. • Wausau) in the 400-meter relay and 1,600-meter relay, Andrew McGuire (Sr. • Wisconsin Rapids) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, James Simms (Jr. • Fredonia) in the triple jump and Ben Zill (Jr. • New Franken) in the 400-meter hurdles and 1,600-meter relay.
Highlighting the returning UW-Oshkosh athletes to the meet are Simms who took fourth last season with a mark of 48-7 ¼ and is seeded ninth with a distance of 48-4 and Zill who captured fourth last year in a time of 52.79 and is seeded second in a time of 52.52. Zill also qualified for the 400-meter hurdles as a freshman but failed to make the finals.
McGuire, who just missed reaching the podium with a ninth-place performance in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 2008, is seeded 16th this year in a time of 9:14.51. Hollanquest and Zill failed to reach the finals in the 1,600-meter relay last year and join first-time entries Chad Churchill (Jr. • Sheboygan) and Chris Lipke (So. • Wautoma). The foursome enters the event in a tenth-seed time of 3:14.79.
Other Titans enjoying their first appearance in the championship include Tony Baker (So. • Oshkosh) in the discus and hammer throw, Dean Jensen (Fr. • De Pere) in the 400-meter relay, Brent Jude (Jr. • Milwaukee) in the 100-meter dash and 400-meter relay and Peter Wheiland (So. • Slinger) in the shot put.
Baker enters the meet as the ninth-seed in the discus with a toss of 165-8 and the 15th-seed in the hammer throw with a cast of 179-3, Jensen and Jude join Churchill and Hollanquest as the 14th-seed in the 400-meter relay in a time of 41.48, Jude the 18th-seed in the 100-meter dash in a time of 10.73 and Wheiland the 14th-seed in the shot put with a toss of 52-3 ¾.
In 2008, UW-Oshkosh enjoyed All-America performances from four different individuals to score 23 points and finish seventh at the NCAA Division III Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championship.
In 2007 and 2006, the Titans finished eighth with 20 and 24 points, respectively. UW-Oshkosh has four, top-five finishes, including a runner-up showing in 1990, a third-place listing in 2003 and fifth-place results in 1999 and 2000.

Titans Take Fourth Place At WIAC Championship

UW-Oshkosh had two event winners to catapult them to fourth-place at the WIAC Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championship held Friday and Saturday (May 1-2) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.
Bobby Riley won three events and Paul Zdroik two to lead UW-La Crosse to their 19th straight and 45th overall conference title with 176.50 points. UW-Stevens Point took second with 157, UW-Whitewater third with 129.50, UW-Oshkosh fourth with 106, UW-Platteville fifth with 99, UW-Eau Claire sixth with 89, UW-Stout seventh with 61, UW-River Falls eighth with 38 and UW-Superior ninth with two.
James Simms (Jr. • Fredonia) was the lone UW-Oshkosh individual winner as he captured the triple jump with a mark of 48-1 ¼. The Titans also had the foursome of Willy Kaul (Sr. • Menomonee Falls), Dan Rammer (Fr. • Appleton), Nate Stymiest (Fr. • Oconto Falls) and Ben Wizner (Jr. • Onalaska) win the 3,200-meter relay for the third consecutive year in a time of 7:45.55.
Taking second-place for UW-Oshkosh were Andrew McGuire (Sr. • Wisconsin Rapids) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 9:16.55 and the 1,600-meter relay team of A.J. Hollanquest (Sr. • Wausau), David Edwards (Jr. • Waterford), Chad Churchill (Jr. • Sheboygan) and Chris Lipke (So. • Wautoma) in a time of 3:20.05.
Notching third-place performances for the Titans included Joe Dillon (Sr. • Janesville) in the decathlon with 5,709 points, Stymiest in the 1,500-meter run in a time of 3:54.81, Pete Wheiland (So. • Slinger) in the shot put with a launch of 50-9 ½ and Tony Baker (So. • Oshkosh) in the discus with a toss of 160-10.
UW-Oshkosh also had the 400-meter relay team of Churchill, Hollanquest, Dean Jensen (Fr. • De Pere) and Ben Zill (Jr. • New Franken) pick-up a third-place result in a time of 42.20.
The 400-meter hurdles event was productive for the Titans as Edwards finished fourth in a time of 55.63, Nick Katsandonis (Sr. • Menasha) landed fifth in a time of 56.23, Lipke took seventh in a time of 56.87 Ben Zill ended up eighth in a time of 57.50.
UW-Oshkosh got fourth-place production from Jensen in the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.08, Kaul in the 1,500-meter run in a time of 3:56.91 and Billy Klitz (Sr. • Markesan) in the high jump with a leap of 6-4 ¾.
The Titans saw seventh-place results by Tom O’Conner (So. • Clintonville) in the decathlon with 5,027 points, Zill in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 15.43, McGuire in the 1,500-meter run in a time of 4:01.21 and Baker in the hammer throw with a fling of 168-0.
Rounding out point production by UW-Oshkosh was eighth-place performances by Geoff Gundlach (Sr. • Middleton) in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 15:24.50, Zill in the triple jump with a mark of 44-2 and Ben Ludtke (Fr. • Lyons) in the hammer throw with a toss of 163-6.

UW-Oshkosh To Host WIAC Championships
For the second time in four years and fourth overall, UW-Oshkosh will host the WIAC Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
The 91st edition of the men’s championship and 38th version of the women’s championship take place Friday and Saturday (May 1-2) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium. Competition begins at noon on Friday and continues through the last event at 7 p.m. Activity starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday and concludes with the final event at 4:35 p.m.
The UW-La Crosse men strive for their 19th consecutive title after winning last year's championship with 191.5 points. Following the Eagles in last year's standings were second-place UW-Stevens Point with 173.5 points, third-place UW-Oshkosh with 134.5, fourth-place UW-Whitewater with 129, fifth-place UW-Platteville with 87, sixth-place UW-Eau Claire with 67.5, seventh-place UW-River Falls with 53, eighth-place UW-Stout with 42 and ninth-place UW-Superior with 16.
The men's meet features the return of 11 individual event champions, including two-time winners Jessie Dengsavang and Alex Rooker of UW-La Crosse. Dengsavang is the two-time defending champion in the triple jump, while Rooker won both the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash titles at last year's championship.
Other defending champions back are Daniel Drewek of UW-Stout in the pole vault, Greg Haak of UW-Stevens Point in the 800-meter run, Keith Ingram of UW-Stevens Point in the long jump, Clark Lundquist of UW-La Crosse in the high jump, Andrew McGuire of UW-Oshkosh in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and Ben Zill of UW-Oshkosh in the 400-meter hurdles.
Champions from 2007 returning are UW-La Crosse's Paul Moran in the 10,000-meter run, Brad Peterson in the 400-meter hurdles and Bobby Riley in the shot put.
On the women's side, UW-La Crosse goes after its third straight title after winning last year's meet with 192 points. Trailing the Eagles in last year's standings were second-place UW-Eau Claire with 158.5 points, third-place UW-Oshkosh with 140.5, fourth-place UW-River Falls with 118, fifth-place UW-Stevens Point with 117, sixth-place UW-Stout with 51, seventh-place UW-Platteville with 50, eighth-place UW-Whitewater with 46 and ninth-place UW-Superior with 24.
The women's meet returns 13 individual event champions, including Elizabeth Caine of UW-Stevens Point and Ashlea Peter of UW-Stout who are seeking their third consecutive titles in the 100-meter dash and triple jump, respectively.
Additional defending champions returning are Brooke Bell of UW-Whitewater in the 200-meter dash, Hannah Humbach of UW-Eau Claire in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Becca Jordahl of UW-River Falls in both the 5,000-meter run and 10,000-meter run, Liz Kooistra of UW-Eau Claire in the 400-meter dash, Sam Mayer of UW-Stout in the high jump, Becky Ponick of UW-River Falls in the javelin, Caitlin Schetter of UW-La Crosse in the long jump and Pam Sellberg of UW-Stout in the pole vault.
Champions from 2007 back are Katie Fondow of UW-La Crosse in the long jump, Jessica Reed of UW-River Falls in the 100-meter hurdles and Dana Thompson of UW-Whitewater in the discus.

Kaul Earns WIAC Track Athlete Of The Week Award
UW-Oshkosh's Willy Kaul (Sr. • Menomonee Falls) has been named as one of two WIAC Men's Track and Field Athlete of the Week award winners for meets held April 13-19.
Kaul was recognized for his performance on the track, while Bobby Riley of UW-La Crosse was cited for his effort in the field events.
Kaul set a school record in the 10,000-meter run as UW-Oshkosh captured the team title at the Wheaton College Twilight Invitational held April 18 in Wheaton, Ill.
Kaul ran to a first-place time of 29:38.85. His performance broke a three-year-old record and surpassed the automatic qualifying standard for next month’s NCAA Division III Outdoor Championship in Marietta, Ohio.
UW-Oshkosh owned the top five finishers in the 10,000-meter run, including Geoff Gundlach who placed second with a time of 32:20.97. The event featured 13 collegiate competitors and 14 overall.

Titans Win Wheaton College Invitational
  Willy Kaul (Sr. • Menomonee Falls) broke the school record in the 10,000-meter run as the UW-Oshkosh men’s track and field team won nine events to win the seven-team Wheaton College (Ill.) Twilight Invitational on Saturday (April 18) in Wheaton, Ill.
Kaul dominated the field in the 10,000-meter run, winning in a time of 29:38.85 to better the previous mark of 29:52.68 set by Nick Boehlke in 2006. With his performance, Kaul automatically qualifies for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championship.
UW-Oshkosh scored 243 points to outdistance second-place North Central College (Ill.) which tallied 217 points. The top-five places followed with Washington University (Mo.) in third-place with 124 points, Calvin College (Mich.) in fourth-place with 96.5 and fifth-place Wheaton College with 71.5.
UW-Oshkosh scored major points in the 10,000-meter run as the Titans had four runners follow Kaul’s lead in capturing the top-five places. Geoff Gundlach (Sr. • Middleton) took second-place in a time of 32:20.97, Josh Hoff (Jr. • Boyceville) third-place in a time of 32:22.51, Mike Jarchow (Fr. • Oshkosh) fourth-place in a time of 33:00.85 and Jake Keehan (So. • Green Bay) fifth-place in a time of 33:05.67.
The Titans also secured the top-four positions in the 400-meter hurdles with Ben Zill (Jr. • New Franken) taking top honors in a time of 53.42. David Edwards (Jr. • Waterford) followed in second-place in a time of 54.57, Nick Katsandonis (Sr. • Menasha) in third-place in a time of 54.79 and Chris Lipke (So. • Wautoma) in fourth-place in a time of 55.00. Kris Wilke (So. • Waterloo) tallied an eighth-place result with a time of 56.18 to finish UW-Oshkosh’s scoring in the event.
First-place performances for UW-Oshkosh included Ben Wizner (Jr. • Onalaska) in the 800-meter run in a time of 1:54.42, Adam Leib (Fr. • Oshkosh) in the long jump with a mark of 21-8 ¾, James Simms (Jr. • Fredonia) in the triple jump with a distance of 46-10 ¾, Pete Wheiland (So. • Slinger) in the shot put with a heave of 51-1 ½, Tony Baker (So. • Oshkosh) in the discus with a toss of 154-4 and Andrew Stephany (So. • Kimberly) in the hammer throw with a fling of 170-0.
The 400-meter relay team ran to a time of 41.99 to also capture first-place for the Titans.

Third-place performances for the Titans consisted of Brent Jude (Jr. • Milwaukee) in the 100-meter dash in a time of 11.20, Chad Churchill (Jr. • Sheboygan) in the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.54 and Jason Ulman (Fr. • Appleton) in the high jump with a mark of 6-2.
UW-Oshkosh enjoyed fourth-place showings from Katsandonis in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 15.92, Ulman in the long jump with a distance of 20-6 ½ and Wheiland in the hammer throw with a toss of 157-4.
The 1,600-meter relay team also captured fourth-place in a time of 3:19.90.
The Titans had fifth-place results from A.J. Hollanquest (Sr. • Wausau) in the 100-meter dash in a time of 11.29 and Leib in the triple jump with a mark of 40-7 ¾.
Wrapping up the scoring for UW-Oshkosh were sixth-place performances by Ryan Fosler (Fr. • DeForest) in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 15.99 and Andrew Vos (Jr. • Fort Atkinson) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 9:46.56 and seventh-place results by Nate Stymiest (Fr. • Oconto Falls) in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 14:54.33, Scott Ryman (Fr. • Belvidere, III.) in the high jump with a leap of 5-10, Zak Schmidt (Sr. • New Berlin) in the pole vault with a height of 14-7 ¼ and Stephany in the discus with a fling of 134-7. |
O'Connor Places Seventh At Meet Of Champions
Tom O’Connor (So. • Clintonville) captured seventh-place in the decathlon by accumulating 5,191 points at the Augustana College Meet of Champions on Saturday (April 18) in Rock Island, Ill.
Highlighting his finishes in the 10-event schedule were a third-place mark of 20-3 ¾ in the long jump, a fifth-place height of 13-1 ½ in the pole vault, a sixth-place launch of 130-1 in the javelin and a seventh-place time of 17.43 in the 110-meter hurdles.
Joe Dillon (Sr. • Janesville) also competed in the decathlon, compiling a total of 4,774 points. Dillon captured seven, top-eight results, but was hampered when he no heighted in the pole vault.

Titans Take Two First-Place Finishes
At UW-Platteville Invitational
  Ben Zill (Jr. • New Franken) led the UW-Oshkosh men’s outdoor track and field team with a first and second-place performance at the UW-Platteville Invitational on Saturday (April 11) in Platteville.
Zill took top honors in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 52.99 and second-place results in the 400-meter dash with a time of 48.99 to pace the Titans. Ben Wizner (So. • Onalaska) also took first-place for the Titans in the 800-meter run in a time of 1:54.28.
Second-place results for UW-Oshkosh included Andrew McGuire (Sr. • Wisconsin Rapids) in the 1,500-meter run in a time of 3:55.72 and Tony Baker (So. • Oshkosh) in the discus with a toss of 162-0.
The Titans enjoyed third-place performances from Nick Katsandonis (Sr. • Menasha) in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 54.69, Justin Darrow (Jr. • Sobieski) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 10:11.18 and the 400-meter relay quartet of Chad Churchill (Sr. • Sheboygan), A.J. Hollanquest (Sr. • Wausau), Dean Jensen (Fr. • De Pere) and Brent Jude (Jr. • Milwaukee) in a time of 42.23.
UW-Oshkosh achieved fourth-place results from David Edwards (Jr. • Waterford) in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 55.02, Billy Klitz (Sr. • Markesan) in the high jump with a leap of 6-3 ½, Baker in the hammer throw with a launch of 167-7 and the 1,600-meter relay foursome of Churchill, Edwards, Chris Lipke (So. • Wautoma) and Wizner in a time of 3:23.90.
Nabbing fifth-place for the Titans were Churchill in the 100-meter dash in a time of 11.06, Nate Stymiest (Fr. • Oconto Falls) in the 1,500-meter run in a time of 3:58.57, Jerrod Berget (Fr. • New Richmond) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 10:30.76, Adam Leib (Fr. • Oshkosh) in the long jump with a leap of 21-0 ½ and Lewis Prior (Fr. • Coleman) in the discus with a launch of 152-3.
Sixth-place results for UW-Oshkosh went to Jansen in the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.56, Katsandonis in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 15.33, Lipke in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 56.10, Ben Brunner (Fr. • Mt. Horeb) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 10:31.08, Pete Wheiland (So. • Slinger) in the shot put with a cast of 49-6 ½ and Andrew Stephany (So. – Kimberly) in the hammer throw with a fling of 160-10.

Titans Open Outdoor Season With Second-Place Finish
  The UW-Oshkosh men’s track and field team opened its 2009 outdoor season with a second-place finish at its own invitational held Saturday (April 4) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.
UW-Eau Claire took the team title with 251.5 points, while UW-Oshkosh finished second in the 12-team meet with 244.5.
Rounding out the top five teams were third-place Carroll University with 70.5 points, fourth-place Michigan Tech University with 47 and fifth-place St. Norbert College with 44.5.
UW-Oshkosh enjoyed seven first-place performances, including two by Ben Zill (Jr. • New Franken). Zill captured the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 53.75 and the triple jump with a distance of 44-5 ½. Zill also finished second in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.94.
Other first-place finishers for the Titans were Dean Jensen (Fr. • De Pere) in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.75, Ben Wizner (So. • Onalaska) in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:56.81, Geoff Gundlach (Sr. • Middleton) in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:23.32, Josh Hoff (Jr. • Boyceville) in the 10,000-meter run in a time of 32:26.70 and Tony Baker (So. • Oshkosh) in the discus with a toss of 156-0.

UW-Oshkosh also took second place in the 400-meter relay with a time of 42.26. Members of that relay squad were Chad Churchill (Sr. • Sheboygan), Shane Dederichs (Fr. • Manitowoc), A.J. Hollanquest (Sr. • Wausau) and Jensen. The Titans 1,600-meter relay group of David Edwards (Jr. • Waterford), Katsandonis, Wizner and Frank O'Neal (Fr. • Viroqua) placed third with a time of 3:27.30.
Placing third for the Titans were Sean Kutz (Fr. • Grantsburg) in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:05.08, Jake Keehan (Fr. • Green Bay) in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 33:06.70, Edwards in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.49, Tom O’Conner (Fr. • Appleton) in the pole vault with a height of 12-11 ½, Adam Leib (Fr. • Oshkosh) in the long jump with a mark of 21-2 ¾, Baker in the hammer throw with a fling of 165-5 and Joe Dillon (Sr. • Janesville) in the javelin with a launch of 147-1.
Snagging fourth-place results for UW-Oshkosh were Hollanquest in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.71, Mike Jarchow (Fr. • Oshkosh) in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 33:13.10, Katsandonis in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.47, Chris Lipke (So. • Wautoma) in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.22, Andrew Stephany (So. • Kimberly) in the hammer throw with a heave of 164-10 and Jason Ulman (Fr. • Appleton) in the high jump with a leap of 6-2 and in the long jump with a mark of 21-2 ½.

Sixth-place performances were achieved by UW-Oshkosh's Dan Rammer (Fr. • Appleton) in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.22, Ryan Fosler (Fr. • DeForest) in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.88, Stephany in the discus with a toss of 135-8 and Lipke in the javelin with a fling of 137-1.
Seventh-place finishes went to the Titans' Justin Darrow (Jr. • Sobieski) in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:47.54, Bobby Gibson (So. • Kewaskum) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:23.22, Alan German (Fr. • West Bend) in the long jump with a distance of 20-8 ½ and Dillon in both the high jump with a height of 5-2 ½ and the pole vault with a mark of 12-5 ½.
