Kelley Named To All-Academic Team

Brian KelleyThe United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has named UW-Oshkosh's Brian Kelley (So. • Winnebago, Ill.) to its 2006 NCAA Division III Men's Outdoor Track and Field All-Academic Team.

Kelley, who owns a 3.41 cumulative grade point average as a finance major, was one of 79 student-athletes selected to the squad. The choices included nine student-athletes from Nebraska Wesleyan University and eight from Tufts University (Mass.).

Kelley's athletic accomplishments during the 2006 season include a 14th-place finish in the 10,000-meter run at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship held May 25-27 in Lisle, Ill. He also placed ninth in the 5,000-meter run at the WIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship held May 5-6 in Oshkosh.

Willamette University (Ore.) senior Nick Symmonds was selected as the USTFCCCA's 2006 NCAA Division III Men's Outdoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA's All-Academic Team, student-athletes needed to surpass a 3.25 cumulative grade point average and eclipse a qualifying event standard for the 2006 NCAA Division III Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championship.

The USTFCCCA also picked Nebraska Wesleyan University valedictorian of its 2006 NCAA Division III Men's Outdoor Track and Field All-Academic Team.

Nebraska Wesleyan University earned the top team award after finishing ninth at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship and having its student-athletes compile a 3.31 cumulative grade point average during the 2006 spring semester.

UW-Oshkosh Women First, Men Fourth
In Final NCAA Division III Power Rankings

The UW-Oshkosh women's track and field team took the top position in the final NCAA Division III power rankings of the 2006 outdoor season.

The power rankings, sponsored by the M-F Athletic Company of Cranston, R.I., are intended to measure a team's dual-meet strength and overall depth rather than strength in a national or conference meet where teams rely on elite performances by a smaller number of individuals.

UW-Oshkosh claimed the women's power ranking championship with 218.59 points, while UW-La Crosse listed second with 208.28, Calvin College (Mich.) third with 203.74, Wheaton College (Ill.) fourth with 195.01 and Williams College (Mass.) fifth with 193.56.

Completing the top 10 squads were sixth-ranked UW-Eau Claire with 192.81 points, seventh-ranked Washington University (Mo.) with 192.39, eighth-ranked Wartburg College (Iowa) with 190.55, ninth-ranked Willamette University (Ore.) with 189.61 and Carthage College with 188.68.

In the men's division, UW-Oshkosh finished fourth with 213.84 points. UW-Whitewater captured the men's crown with 217.94 points, while Calvin College placed second with 217.13 and UW-La Crosse third with 216.35. Nebraska Wesleyan University ranked fifth with 213.15 points.

Rounding out the top 10 teams were sixth-ranked Mount Union College (Ohio) with 212.71 points, seventh-ranked North Central College (Ill.) with 212.62, eighth-ranked Monmouth College (Ill.) with 210.26, ninth-ranked Augustana College (Ill.) with 209.56 and 10th-ranked UW-Platteville with 209.45.

The UW-Oshkosh women claimed the team title at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship held May 25-27 in Lisle, Ill., while the UW-Oshkosh men finished 10th.

Boehlke, Houle Earn NCAA Midwest Region Honors

Nick BoehlkeBrandon HouleThe United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has named UW-Oshkosh’s Nick Boehlke (Sr. • Sugar Camp) and Brandon Houle (Jr. • Oshkosh) as its 2006 NCAA Division III Midwest Region Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Year.

Boehlke, who received the region’s highest track award, placed seventh in the 10,000-meter run and 14th in the 5,000-meter run at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship held May 25-27 in Lisle, Ill. He posted times of 31:02.16 in the 10,000-meter run and 15:31.23 in the 5,000-meter run to help the Titans to a 10th-place finish.

At the WIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship held May 5-6 in Oshkosh, Boehlke captured titles in both the 5,000 and 10,000-meter runs for the second consecutive season. He recorded times of 14:39.87 in the 5,000-meter run and 31:09.15 in the 10,000-meter run to help the Titans to a third-place finish.

Houle, who earned the region’s top field award, finished third in the shot put, fifth in the hammer throw and 12th in the discus at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship. He marked distances of 57-7 in the shot put, 184-8 in the hammer throw and 156-3 in the discus.

At the WIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship, Houle placed second in the shot put and hammer throw events with efforts of 55-10 1/4 and 191-11, respectively.

Last March, Houle was named the USTFCCCA’s NCAA Division III Midwest Region Indoor Field Athlete of the Year.

UW-La Crosse’s Mark Guthrie was selected as the NCAA Division III Midwest Region Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year.

National NCAA Division III outdoor honorees were Matt Roberson of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (Calif.) as the Track Athlete of the Year, Macharia Yuot of Widener University (Pa.) as the Field Athlete of the Year and John Homon of Mount Union College (Ohio) as the Coach of the Year.

Titans Finish 10th At NCAA Championship

UW-Oshkosh scored 20 points and finished 10th at the NCAA Division III Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championship held Thursday (May 25) through Saturday (May 27) in Lisle, Ill. Fellow WIAC member UW-La Crosse won the national title by amassing 74.5 points.

Brandon Houle (Jr. • Oshkosh) captured two All-America performances by finishing third in the shot put with a heave of 57-7 and fifth in the hammer throw with a fling of 184-8. Last season, Houle captured All-America honors by placing third in the shot put and sixth in the hammer throw.

Willy Kaul (Fr. • Menomonee Falls) finished fourth in the 10,000 meter run in a time of 30:46.29 to capture his first NCAA Division III All-America award.

Nick Boehlke (Sr. • Sugar Camp) grabbed his first NCAA Division III outdoor All-America honor by placing seventh in the 10,000 meter run in a time of 31:02.16.

Zach Johnson (Jr. • Clintonville) finished sixth in the pole vault with a leap of 15-11 1/4 to round out the Titans' All-America performances.

Other UW-Oshkosh athletes qualifying for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championship were Brian Kelley (So. • Winnebago, Ill.) in the 10,000-meter run, Paul Brown (Sr. • West Allis) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and Scott Michel (So. • Waupaca) in the 400-meter dash.

Houle also participated in the discus and Boehlke and Kaul in the 5,000-meter run to round out the Titans' list of athletes at the meet.

Last season, the Titans finished eighth with 24 points. UW-Oshkosh placed sixth in 2004 and third in 2003.

Titans To Send Seven Athletes To NCAA Championship

The UW-Oshkosh men's outdoor track and field team will send seven athletes in 11 events to the 2006 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship that will be held Thursday (May 25) through Saturday (May 27) in Lisle, Ill.

Brandon Houle (Jr. • Oshkosh) highlights the entries, qualifying for the hammer throw, shot put and discus. He begins the hammer throw competition as the third seed with a fling of 191-11, the shot put as the fourth seed with a heave of 55-10 1/4 and the discus as the 15th seed with a toss of 163-8. Last season, Houle captured All America honors by placing third in the shot put and sixth in the hammer throw.

Nick Boehlke (Sr. • Sugar Camp) earned the top spot in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 29:52.68 and is the 14th seed in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:39.97. Boehlke, the two-time WIAC 5,000 and 10,000-meter run champion, looks to secure his first outdoor NCAA Division III All-America honor.

Fresh off of his WIAC title in the pole vault, Zach Johnson (Jr. • Clintonville) enters the national championship as the fourth seed with a height of 16-6 3/4.

Willy Kaul (Fr. • Menomonee Falls) qualified as the sixth seed in both the 5,000-meter run and the 10,000-meter run in times of 14:33.87 and 30:07.01, respectively.

Brian Kelley (So. • Winnebago, Ill.) qualified as the third UW-Oshkosh participant in the 10,000-meter run. He is seeded ninth in the event with a time of 30:25.52.

Paul Brown (Sr. • West Allis) is seeded eighth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:12.94 and Scott Michel (So. • Waupaca) 14th in the 400-meter dash in a time of 48.18.

Last season, the Titans finished eighth with 24 points. UW-Oshkosh placed sixth in 2004 and third in 2003.

Titans Place Third At WIAC Championship

The UW-Oshkosh men's outdoor men's track and field team captured third place by scoring 98 points at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship held Friday (May 5) and Saturday (May 6) at the Oshkosh Sports Complex.

Nick Boehlke (Sr. • Sugar Bush) led the way for UW-Oshkosh as he defended his 5,000-meter title in dramatic fashion by defeating UW-Platteville's Tyler Sigl by .05 seconds in a time of 14:39.87. Both runners were neck and neck in the last 100-meters with Sigl taking a slight lead before Boehlke out leaned him at the tape. Boehlke also won his second consecutive WIAC crown in the 10,000-meter run in a time of 31:09.15.

Zach Johnson (Jr. • Clintonville) won the pole vault with a school record leap of 16-6 3/4 to capture his first WIAC title to close out the Titans first place performances.

Taking second place in two events for the Titans was Brandon Houle (Jr. • Oshkosh) in the shot put with a heave of 55-10 1/4 and in the hammer throw with a fling of 191-11.

Capturing third place for UW-Oshkosh was the 400-meter relay team of Chad Churchill (Fr. • Sheboygan), AJ Hollanquest (Fr. • Wausau), Johnson and Ben Ryder (Sr. • Mayville) in a time of 42.28.

Fourth place results for the Titans went to Jake Gabrilska (Jr. • Pine River) in the discus with a heave of 152-5 and Hollanquest in the 100-meter dash in a time of 10.95.

Fifth place for UW-Oshkosh included Hollanquest in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.04, Scott Michel (So. • Waupaca) in the 400-meter dash in a time of 48.18, Willy Kaul (Fr. • Menomonee Falls) in the 1,500-meter run in a time of 3:59.32 and Gabrilska in the hammer throw with a heave of 178-9.

Also taking fifth place for the Titans were the quartet of Hollanquest, Kevin Lofy (So. • Wisconsin Rapids), Michel and Alex Sleaper (Jr. • Hartland) in the 1,600-meter relay in a time of 3:18.60 and the foursome of Mark Johnson (So. • Hartland), Kaul, Cal Kromm (Sr. • Omro) and Alan Smith (So. • Rhinelander) in the 3,200-meter relay in a time of 7:50.89.

Sixth place results went to Scot Frassetto (Fr. • Kimberly) in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 15.68 and seventh place performances for UW-Oshkosh included Kromm in the 1,500-meter run in a time of 4:00.83 and Tyler Walsh (Fr. • Dousman) in the javelin with a launch of 154-4.

Rounding out the scoring in eighth place for the Titans were Joe Fenrick (Sr. • Campbellsport) in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 15.68, Jon DeVillers (Fr. • Menomonee Falls) in the triple jump with a distance of 44-1 1/2 and Joe Dillon (So • Algoma) in the long jump with a leap of 21-2 3/4 and in the decathlon with 5,734 points.

Titans Finish Fourth In Meet Of Champions

The UW-Oshkosh outdoor men’s track and field team took fourth out of seven teams by scoring 151 points at the Meet of Champions Invitational held at Augustana College (Ill.) Saturday (April 22) in Rock Island, Ill.

UW-Whitewater won the meet by amassing 245.5 points followed by Augustana College with 158 and UW-Stevens Point with 153.5.

Brandon Houle (Jr. • Oshkosh) led the Titans by winning the shot put with a heave of 54-1 3/4 and the hammer throw with a fling of 183-5. Houle also finished fourth in the discus with a toss of 154-11.

Other event winners for UW-Oshkosh were Zach Johnson (Jr. • Clintonville) in the pole vault with a height of 16-0 and the quartet of Derrick Fameree (So. • Algoma), Mark Johnson (So. • Hartland), Cal Kromm (Sr. • Omro) and Kyle Petersen (So. • Neenah) in the 3,200-meter relay in a time of 8:05.98.

Taking second place for UW-Oshkosh, but scoring 10 points was A.J. Hollanquest (Fr. • Wausau) in the 100-meter dash in a time of 10.90. The first place performance was by a runner not attached to a school that was attending the event.

Also taking runner-up honors for the Titans were Scott Michel (So. • Waupaca) in the 400-meter dash in a time of 48.47 and Steve Nowak (Jr. • Casco) in the pole vault with a height of 15-5. The foursome of Chad Churchill (Fr. • Sheboygan), Hollanquest, Kyle Nakatsuji (Fr. • West Allis) and Ben Ryder (Sr. • Mayville) also came in second in the 400-meter relay in a time of 42.62.

Finishing third for UW-Oshkosh were Hollanquest in the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.17 and Willy Kaul (Fr. • Menomonee Falls) in the 1,500-meter run in a time of 3:56.75. Rounding out the third place performances for the Titans were Jon DeVillers (Fr. • Menomonee Falls) in the triple jump with a landing of 43-3 and Jacob Gabrilska (Jr. • Pine River) in the hammer with a fling of 177-11.

Capturing a fourth place performance for UW-Oshkosh was Nick Boehlke (Sr. • Three Lakes) in the 1,500-meter run in a time of 3:57.80 and finishing fifth was Derek O’Connell (Sr. • Hartland) in the 10,000-meter run in a time of 33:27.30.

Wrapping up the Titans top sixth place finishes were Michel in the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.55 and Brandon Lesky (Sr. • Cudahy) in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 15:40.32.

Titans Place Third At Red-White Invitational

The UW-Oshkosh men's outdoor track and field team finished third out of nine teams by accumulating 114 points at the North Central College Red-White Invitational held on Friday (April 14) in Naperville, Ill.

Brandon Houle (Jr. • Oshkosh) was the lone double event winner for the Titans as he captured the shot put with a heave of 53-0 1/4 and the hammer throw with a fling of 178-6. Houle also took second place in the discus with a toss of 152-7.

UW-Oshkosh event winners included Nick Boehlke (Sr. • Three Lakes) in the 1,500-meter run in a time of 3:57.98 and Willy Kaul (Fr. • Menomonee Falls) in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 14:53.47.

Taking runner-up honors for UW-Oshkosh were Brian Kelley (So. • Winnebago, Ill.) in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:12.11 and Zach Johnson (Jr. • Clintonville) in the pole vault with a height of 16-0.

Capturing third place for the Titans were Scott Michel (So. • Waupaca) in the 400-meter dash in a time of 48.40 and Patrick O'Brien (So. • Appleton) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 9:26.93.

Jacob Gabrilska (Jr. • Pine River) added a third place distance in the hammer throw with a toss of 170-1 and took fourth place honors in the discus with a fling of 151-2 and the javelin with a toss of 147-3.

Racking up fourth place results for UW-Oshkosh was Wes Warriner (So. • Absecon, N.J.) in the javelin with a toss of 147-3 and taking home fifth place honors were Alex Sleaper (Jr. • Hartland) in the 800-meter run in a time of 1:57.36 and Joe Fenrick (Sr. • Campbellsport) in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.44.

Rounding out a sixth place performance was Nick Katsandonis (Fr. • Menasha) in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 56.63.

Titans Successful In Oshkosh Sports Complex Debut

The Oshkosh Sports Complex hosted its inaugural men's track and field meet on Saturday (April 8) and the result was a first-place finish in the team standings by host UW-Oshkosh.

UW-Oshkosh scored 234.5 points to win the 11-team meet, while UW-Stevens Point finished second with 153.5 points, NCAA Division I University of Wisconsin third with 94, St. Norbert College fourth with 56.5 and Greater Milwaukee Track Club fifth with 55.5.

UW-Oshkosh had athletes finish first in five events, including two by Brandon Houle (Jr. • Oshkosh). Houle won the shot put with a toss of 55-1 1/2 and the hammer throw with a hurl of 180-8. He also took third place in the discus with a fling of 143-8.

Other event winners for the Titans were Andrew McGuire (So. • Wisconsin Rapids) in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:48.13, Scott Michel (So. • Waupaca) in the 400-meter dash with a time of 48.85 and Zach Johnson (Jr. • Clintonville) in the pole vault with a spring of 15-11.

Placing second for UW-Oshkosh were Jon DeVillers (Fr. • Menomonee Falls) in the triple jump with a distance of 42-6 1/4, Jacob Gabrilska (Jr. • Pine River) in the hammer throw with a cast of 178-1, Willy Kaul (Fr. • Menomonee Falls) in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:57.39, Brian Kelley (So. • Winnebago, Ill.) in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:52.50, Patrick O'Brien (So. • Appleton) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:39.95 and Alex Sleaper (Jr. • Hartland) in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:57.40.

UW-Oshkosh's two relay teams took second place as the 400-meter relay group of Johnson, A.J. Hollanquest (Fr. • Wausau), Kyle Nakatsuji (Fr. • West Allis) and Ben Ryder (Sr. • Mayville) posted a time of 42.69 while the 1,600-relay contingent of Michel, Sleaper, Joel Bretl (So. • Peshtigo) and Kevin Lofy (So. • Lake Geneva) recorded a time of 3:23.56.

Taking third place for the Titans were Joe Fenrick (Sr. • Campbellsport) in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.65 and Alan Smith (So. • Rhinelander) in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:57.54.

Finishing fourth for UW-Oshkosh were Gabrilska in the discus with a hurl of 143-6, Nick Boehlke (Sr. • Three Lakes) in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:57.39, Paul Brown (Sr. • West Allis) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:39.95, Scot Frassetto (Fr. • Kimberly) in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.92, Mark Johnson (So. • Hartland) in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:07.76, Chris Kirch (Jr. • Lake Geneva) in the shot put with a toss of 47-2 1/2, Phil Prusinski (So. • Rib Lake) in the hammer throw with a launch of 136-4 and Nick Sydow (Fr. • Marshfield) in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:59.76.

UW-Oshkosh's lone fifth-place finish went to Kaul in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:00.35.

Sixth-place efforts belonged to the Titans' Boehlke in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:01.44, Brandon Lesky (Sr. • Cudahy) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:59.87, Kyle Petersen (So. • Neenah) in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:08.19 and Wes Warriner (So. • Absecon, N.J.) in the shot put with a mark of 45-11 3/4.

Oshkosh Sports Complex
To Host First Track And Field Meet

Facility records will be established in each event when UW-Oshkosh hosts the first track and field meet at the Oshkosh Sports Complex on Saturday (April 8).

The historic meet features men’s and women’s teams from Carroll College, Clarke College (Iowa), Lawrence University, Ripon College, St. Norbert College, UW-Oshkosh, UW-Stevens Point and the University of Wisconsin.

The men’s team from UW-Parkside and the women’s squad from Winona State University (Minn.) will also participate in the meet.

The first event on Saturday begins at noon.

UW-Oshkosh will also host two other track and field meets at the Oshkosh Sports Complex this spring, the WIAC Championship on May 5-6 and the UW-Oshkosh Open on May 15.

Titans Open Outdoor Season
With Second-Place Finish

The UW-Oshkosh men's track and field team captured second place at the five-team North Central College First Chance Meet held Saturday (April 1) in Naperville, Ill. The Titans tallied 160 points, trailing only the host Cardinals who accumulated 180 points to win the meet.

A.J. Hollanquest (So. • Wausau) and Brandon Houle (Jr. • Oshkosh) were double event winners to lead UW-Oshkosh. Hollanquest won the 100-meter dash in a time of 11.08 and the 200-meter dash in a sprint of 22.19 and Houle captured the shot put with a heave of 53-1 and the hammer throw with a toss of 180-8.

Also taking home top honors for the Titans were Zach Johnson (Jr. • Clintonville) in the pole vault soaring to a height of 14-11 and Tyler Walsh (Fr. • Dousman) in the javelin throw with a marking of 161-8.

Taking second place for UW-Oshkosh were Alex Sleaper (Jr. • Hartland) in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:58.83, Paul Brown (Sr. • West Allis) in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:28.20 and Nick Boehlke (Sr. • Three Lakes) in the 10,000-meter run in a time of 31:24.34.

Other runner-up performances for the Titans were Jon DeVillers (Fr. • Menomonee Falls) in the triple jump with a distance of 44-0, Jacob Gabrilska (Jr. • Wild Rose) in the hammer throw with a heave of 172-2 and Houle with a discus of 147-2.

Taking third place for the Titans were Kyle Petersen (So. • Neenah) in the 800-meter run in time of 1:59.70 and Derek O'Connell (Sr. • Hartland) in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 15:32.59. Also placing third were Joe Fenrick (Sr. • Campbellsport) in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.71 and Joe Dillon (So. • Janesville) in the long jump with a marking of 20-5 3/4.

Capturing fourth place for UW-Oshkosh were Nick Katsandonis (Fr. • Menasha) in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 57.11 and Gabrilska in the discus with a toss of 141-10. Finishing out the fourth place results was the 1,600-meter relay quartet of Dillon, Kevin Lofy (So. • Lake Geneva), Joel Bretl (So. • Peshtigo) and Sleaper in a time of 3:27.66.

UW-Oshkosh claimed the women's crown with 158.90 points, while UW-La Crosse listed second with 147.92, Williams College (Mass.) third with 147.08, UW-Eau Claire fourth with 142.58 and North Central College (Ill.) fifth with 138.71.

Completing the top 10 squads were sixth-ranked Wartburg College (Iowa) with 138.54 points, seventh-ranked Washington University (Mo.) with 134.78, eighth-ranked Baldwin-Wallace College (Ohio) with 133.25, ninth-ranked UW-Platteville with 132.79 and Carthage College 10th with 132.73.

The UW-Oshkosh women took the team title at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championship held March 10-11 in Northfield, Minn. It was the Titans’ third consecutive NCAA Division III indoor title and sixth since 1994.

The outdoor season for UW-Oshkosh's two track and field teams begins on Saturday (April 1) with a quadrangular at North Central College (Ill.).

NCAA Midwest Region Field Athlete Of The Year

Brandon HouleUW-Oshkosh’s Brandon Houle (Jr. • Oshkosh) has been named the 2006 NCAA Division III Midwest Region Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Year by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Houle earned All-America honors in the 35-pound weight throw and shot put events to lead UW-Oshkosh to a third-place finish at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championship held March 10-11 in Northfield, Minn. He placed third in the 35-pound weight throw with a school-record cast of 63-11 and fourth in the shot put with a toss of 55-4 3/4.

At the WIAC Indoor Track and Field Championship held March 3-4 in Stevens Point, Houle won the 35-pound weight throw with a heave of 63-3 3/4 and the shot put with a hurl of 55-7. His efforts helped UW-Oshkosh finish third in the team standings.

Since transferring to UW-Oshkosh from the University of Wisconsin two years ago, Houle has received four indoor and two outdoor NCAA Division III All-America track and field awards. He also is a member of the UW-Oshkosh football team.

Dave Billings of Ripon College was selected as the NCAA Division III Midwest Region Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Year.

Titans Place Third At NCAA Indoor Championship

Brandon Houle (Jr. • Oshkosh) and Cal Kromm (Sr. • Omro) earned All-America awards in two events to lead UW-Oshkosh to a third-place finish at the NCAA Division III Men's Indoor Track and Field Championship held Friday and Saturday (March 10-11) in Northfield, Minn.

UW-Oshkosh scored 27 points, including 11 by Houle, to finish among the top five teams at the meet for the fifth time in eight years. The Titans, who placed second in 1999, 2001 and 2003, ranked sixth a year ago.

UW-La Crosse tallied a meet-record 78 points to win its sixth consecutive NCAA Division III indoor title. The Eagles were followed by second-place Lincoln University (Pa.) with 31 points, third-place UW-Oshkosh, fourth-place Nebraska Wesleyan University with 26 and fifth-place The College of New Jersey with 24.

Completing the top 10 teams were sixth-place Mount Union College (Ohio) with 23 points, seventh-place Loras College (Iowa) with 20, eighth-place Massachusetts Institute of Technology with 18, ninth-place Widener University (Pa.) with 16 and 10th-place Heidelberg College (Ohio) and State University of New York-Cortland with 15. A total of 52 teams scored points at this year's meet.

Houle finished third in the 35-pound weight throw with a school-record cast of 63-11 and fourth in the shot put with a toss of 55-4 3/4. He finished second in both events last season.

Kromm was involved in a pair of eighth-place performances, including the mile run where he posted a time of 4:15.64. Kromm also joined Nate Boehlke (So. • Three Lakes), Nick Boehlke (Sr. • Three Lakes) and Scott Michel (So. • Waupaca) in registering a time of 10:14.13 in the distance medley relay. Nick Boehlke also ran on UW-Oshkosh's distance medley relay team that finished fourth in the country last year.

UW-Oshkosh also had Tom Roszak (Sr. • Greenfield) finish second in the high jump with a leap of 6-7 1/2, Zach Johnson (Jr. • Clintonville) fourth in the pole vault with a school-record height of 16-5 1/2 and Jacob Gabrilska (Jr. • Pine River) sixth in the 35-pound weight throw with a distance of 62-6. Roszak finished sixth in the high jump in 2004.

Other UW-Oshkosh entries at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championship were Nate Boehlke in the 800-meter run and Nick Boehlke in the mile run.

The top eight finishers in each event scored team points and were awarded All-America accolades.

Titans Finish Third At WIAC Indoor Championship

Nick Boehlke (Sr. • Three Lakes) and Brandon Houle (Jr. • Oshkosh) both claimed a pair of individual titles to lead UW-Oshkosh to a third-place finish at the WIAC Men’s Indoor Track and Field Championship held Friday and Saturday (March 3-4) in Stevens Point.

UW-La Crosse scored 191 team points to capture its fifth straight WIAC indoor championship and 31st in school history. The Eagles owned the winner in six of the 18 events.

UW-Whitewater finished second in the nine-team meet with 152 points, while UW-Oshkosh placed third with 123.5, UW-Stevens Point fourth with 78.5, UW-Platteville fifth with 52.5, UW-Eau Claire sixth with 35, UW-Stout seventh with 32, UW-River Falls eighth with 29.5 and UW-Superior ninth with 8. UW-Oshkosh has ranked among the top four teams at the WIAC Indoor Championship every year since 1988, including first-place finishes in 1989, 1999 and 2001.

Boehlke was named Track Performer of the Meet after winning the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:37.03 and the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:45.24. Boehlke won the 3,000-meter run for the second consecutive year, while his performance in the 5,000-meter run was 26 seconds faster than the second-place finisher.

Houle won the shot put with a toss of 55-7 and the 35-pound weight throw with a school-record heave of 63-3 3/4. He was the defending champion in the shot put.

The Titans also picked up another first-place finish when Cal Kromm (Sr. • Omro) won the 800-meter run with a time of 1:53.77.

UW-Oshkosh had three second-place efforts as Jacob Gabrilska (Jr. • Pine River) marked a distance of 61-2 1/4 in the 35-pond weight throw, A.J. Hollanquest (So. • Wausau) posted a time of 6.47 in the 55-meter dash and Tom Roszak (Sr. • Greenfield) leaped to a height of 6-9 3/4 in the high jump. Hollanquest also finished third in the 200-meter dash with a school-record time of 22.27.

Finishing fourth for the Titans were Scott Michel (So. • Waupaca) in the 400-meter run with a time of 50.06 and Zach Johnson (Jr. • Clintonville) in the pole vault with a height of 16-2. UW-Oshkosh also had its 1,600-meter relay team of Michel,
Joel Bretl (So. • Peshtigo), Kevin Lofy (Jr. • Lake Geneva) and Alex Sleaper (Jr. • Hartland) finish fourth with a time of 3:24.89.

Nate Boehlke (So. • Three Lakes) registered UW-Oshkosh’s lone fifth-place finish by turning in a time of 1:55.84 in the 800-meter run.

UW-Oshkosh had four sixth-place performances as Bill Klitz (So. • Markesan) leaped to a height of 6-2 in the high jump and Geoff Gundlach (So. • Middleton), Derek O’Connell (Sr. • Hartland) and Ryan Richardson (Jr. • Winnebago, Ill.) paraded to times of 4:22.18 in the mile run, 8:46.48 in the 3,000-meter run and 15:16.03 in the 5,000-meter run, respectively.

The Titans concluded their team scoring with five seventh-place finishes and three eighth-place efforts.

Finishing seventh were Brian Kelley (So. • Winnebago, Ill.) in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:21.26, Alan Smith (So. • Rhinelander) in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:57.85 and Tyler Walsh (Fr. • Dousman) in the heptathlon with 4,267 points. The Titans also had their 800-meter and distance medley relay teams finish seventh with times of 1:33.27 and 10:43.26, respectively. Members of the 800-meter relay team were Lofy, Kyle Nakatsuji (Fr. • West Allis), Ben Ryder (Sr. • Mayville) and Markus Tassoul (Fr. • Brussels). Running on the distance medley relay team were Gundlach, Tassoul, Brandon Lesky (Sr. • Cudahy) and Patrick O'Brien (So. • Appleton).

Ranking eighth were Roszak in the triple jump with a distance of 43-7 1/4, Joe Dillon (So. • Janesville) in the heptathlon with 4,246 points and Derrick Fameree (So. • Algoma) in the mile run with a time of 4:23.43.

UW-Stevens Point’s Kyle Steiner was named Field Athlete of the Meet, while UW-La Crosse's Mark Guthrie was chosen as the WIAC's Indoor Track and Field Coach of the Year. UW-La Crosse’s Nate Olson was the recipient of the WIAC's Max Sparger Scholar-Athlete Award.

The UW-Oshkosh men's track and field team prepared for the upcoming WIAC Indoor Championship by winning the 13-team UW-Stevens Point Invitational by scoring 152 points on Saturday (Feb. 25) in Stevens Point. The host Pointers finished second with 125.5 points.

UW-Oshkosh's Brandon Houle (Jr. • Oshkosh) was a double event winner as he captured the 35-pound weight throw with a heave of 60-5 3/4 and the shot put with a cast of 54-10 3/4. Other champions for the Titans included Nick Boehlke (Sr. • Three Lakes) in the one mile run in a time of 4:14.50, Derek O'Connell (Sr. • Hartland) in the 3,000-meter run in a time of 8:49.19, Tom Roszak (Sr. • Greenfield) in the high jump with a leap of 6-9 1/2 and Zach Johnson (Jr. • Clintonville) in the pole vault with a height of 16-6.

Capturing second place honors for the Titans including Geoff Gundlach (So. • Middleton) in the 3,000-meter run in a time of 8:52.10, Jon DeVillers (Fr. • Menomonee Falls) in the triple jump with a landing of 42-8 and Jacob Gabrilska (Jr. • Pine River) in the 35-pound weight throw with a heave of 59-10 1/4. The distance medley relay team of Nate Boehlke (So. • Three Lakes), Derrick Fameree (So. • Algoma), Cal Kromm (Sr. • Omro) and Alex Sleaper (Jr. • Hartland) also captured runner-up honors with a time of 10:01.89.

Taking third place for UW-Oshkosh were A.J. Hollanquest (So. • Wausau) in the 55-meter dash with a sprint of 6.52, Alan Smith (So. • Rhinelander) in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:57.36 and Roszak in the triple jump with a landing of 42-7 1/2.

Finishing fourth for the Titans were Ben Ryder (Sr. • Mayville) in the 55-meter dash in a time of 6.63 and the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.99, Paul Brown (Sr. • West Allis) in the one mile run in a clocking of 4:20.13 and Bill Klitz (So. • Markesan) in the high jump with a height of 6-3 1/4. The 1,600-meter relay team of Hollanquest, Kevin Lofy (Jr. • Lake Geneva), Scott Michel (So. • Waupaca) and Markus Tassoul (Fr. • Brussels) also finished in fourth place crossing the finish line in a time of 3:22.27.

Landing in sixth place for UW-Oshkosh were Tyler Walsh (Fr. • Dousman) in the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 8.21, Brandon Lesky (Sr. • Cudahy) in the one mile run in a time of 4:22.47 and Chris Kirch (Jr. • Lake Geneva) in the shot put with a toss of 47-5.

Other event winners included Rob Haynes of Michigan Tech University in the 55-meter dash in a time of 6.47 and the 200-meter dash in a clocking of 22.16, Ben Zizis of UW-Platteville in the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 7.86 and Derek Gonzenbach of UW-Stout in the 400-meter dash in a clocking of 49.00.

Also capturing first place were Nate Richardson of UW-Platteville in the 800-meter run in a time of 1:56.70, Aaron Whalen of UW-Platteville in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 16:05.01, Kolade Agbaje-Williams of Lawrence University in the long jump with a leap of 22-7 and Ryan Carpenter of UW-Stout in the triple jump with a marking of 44-6 3/4.

Relay winners included UW-Stout in the 800-meter relay with a time of 1:32.16, UW-Stevens Point in the 1,600-meter relay in a time of 3:18.35 and UW-La Crosse in the distance medley relay in a clocking of 10:00.12.

The UW-Oshkosh men's indoor track and field team scored 37 points in the 3,000-meter run and went on to win the UW-Oshkosh invitational by accumulating 249 points in a meet held on Saturday (Feb. 18) in Kolf Sports Center. WIAC member UW-Stevens Point captured second place with 166 points and Loras College (Iowa) finished third with 106 points.

Brandon Lesky (Sr. • Cudahy) led the Titans in the 3,000-meter run with a first place showing with a time of 8:44.18 followed by Paul Brown (Sr. • West Allis) in second place with a time of 8:46.42 and Brian Kelley (So. • Winnebago, Ill.) in third place with a clocking of 8:51.76.

Fourth place honors in the 3,000-meter run went to UW-Oshkosh's Ryan Richardson (Jr. • Winnebago, Ill.) with a time of 8:51.81 followed by Nick Boehlke (Sr. • Three Lakes) in fifth place with a time of 8:57.77 and Jon Simon (So.
• Milwaukee) in sixth place by crossing the line in 9:01.42.

Brandon Houle (Jr. • Oshkosh) was a double event winner as he won the shot put with a heave of 55-10 1/4 and the 35-pound weight throw with a toss of 63-11 1/2. Jacob Gabrilska (Jr. • Pine River) followed in second place in the 35-pound weight throw with a distance of 58-6, Chris Kirch (Jr. • Lake Geneva) in third place with a heave of 49-6 1/2 and a fifth place showing by Phil Prusinski (Fr. • Rib Lake) with a marking of 45-10.

Kirch also took third place in the shot put with a toss of 46-10 3/4 followed by Wes Warriner (So. • Absecon, N.J.) in third place with a distance of 46-10, Sam Wiltzuis (Fr. • Coleman) in fourth place with a marking of 45-0 1/4 and Prusinski in fifth place with a heave of 44-2.

A.J. Hollanquest (So. • Wausau) won the 55-meter dash in a time of 6.55 and sprinted to runner-up honors in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.60. Ben Ryder (Sr. • Mayville) finished in second place in the 55-meter dash with a clocking of 6.69 and Zach Johnson (Jr. • Clintonville) captured fifth place by breaking the tape in 6.80.

The one-mile run provided 28 points as UW-Oshkosh took home four of the top five slots led by Cal Kromm (Sr. • Omro) who won in a time of 4:12.20. Nate Boehlke (So. • Three Lakes) took runner-up honors with a time of 4:18.40 followed by Derrick Fameree (So. • Algoma) with a time of 4:18.68. Geoff Gundlach (So. • Middleton) finished the scoring in the one-mile run by squeezing out a fifth place showing with a time of 4:20.61.

Other event winners for the Titans was Scott Michel (So. • Waupaca) in the 400-meter run in a time of 50.77 and the 800-meter relay team of Kevin Lofy (Jr. • Lake Geneva), Kyle Nakatsuji (Fr. • West Allis), Ryder and Alex Sleaper (Jr. • Hartland) who finished in a clocking of 1:33.96. Second place went to Nick Boehlke in the 5,000 meter run in a time of 14:51.19, Johnson in the pole vault in a height of 15-3 and Jon DeVillers (Fr. • Menomonee Falls) in the triple jump with a distance of 43-10.

Capturing third place for the hosts were Markus Tassoul (Fr. • Brussels) in the 400-meter run with a time of 52.04 and Alan Smith (So. • Rhinelander) in the 800-meter run in a clocking of 1:59.26. The 1,600-meter relay quartet consisting of Harrison Fegley (Jr. • Menomonee Falls), Mark Johnson (Jr. • Hartland), Sleaper and Smith also ran to a third place showing at 3:35.76.

Fourth place results included Joe Fenrick (Sr. • Campbellsport) in the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 8.23, Tom Rozsak (Sr. • Greenfield) in the high jump with a leap of 6-8 1/4, Joe Dillon (So. • Janesville) in the long jump with a distance of 20-8 and Danny Thompson (So. • Kewanuee) in the triple jump with a measurement of 42-6 3/4.

Fifth place performances included Derek O'Connell (Sr. • Hartland) in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 15:30.71, Scot Frassetto (Fr. • Kimberly) in the 55-meter hurdles with a clocking of 8.36 and Billy Klitz (So. • Markesan) in the high jump with a leap of 6-2 1/4.

Ranked First In NCAA Division III Power Listings

The UW-Oshkosh men’s and women’s track and field teams are both listed first in the initial NCAA Division III power rankings of the 2006 indoor season.

The power rankings, sponsored by the M-F Athletic Company of Cranston, R.I., are intended to measure a team’s dual-meet strength and overall depth rather than strength in a national or conference meet where teams rely on elite performances by a smaller number of individuals.

The UW-Oshkosh men totaled 151.34 points in the rankings. Following the Titans are second-ranked UW-Whitewater with 143.09 points, third ranked The College of New Jersey with 139.81, fourth-ranked North Central College (Ill.) with 139.21 and fifth-ranked Monmouth College (Ill.) with 138.61.

The UW-Oshkosh women compiled 148.65 points in the rankings. Behind the Titans are second-ranked UW-Eau Claire with 130.65 points, third-ranked UW-La Crosse with 128.88, fourth-ranked North Central College with 122.52 and fifth-ranked Baldwin-Wallace College (Ohio) with 122.50.

Last Friday (Feb. 10), the UW-Oshkosh men finished third at the Warhawk Classic in Whitewater. UW-La Crosse won the seven-team meet with 187.5 points, while UW-Whitewater finished second with 160 and UW-Oshkosh third with 123.5.

Last Saturday (Feb. 11), the UW-Oshkosh women captured the team title at the Warhawk Classic in Whitewater. UW-Oshkosh won the six team meet with 177 points, while UW-La Crosse placed second with 156 points and Wartburg College (Iowa) third with 132.

Both UW-Oshkosh teams are in action on Saturday (Feb. 18) when they host the Titan Invitational at 10:30 a.m. in Kolf Sports Center.

The UW-Oshkosh men's indoor track and field team captured four events to finish third out of seven teams at the UW-Whitewater Warhawk Classic held on Friday (Feb. 10) in Whitewater.

UW-La Crosse finished first with 187.5 points. The Eagles were followed by UW-Whitewater with 160 points and UW-Oshkosh with 123.5 points.

Event winners for UW-Oshkosh were A.J. Hollanquest (So. • Wausau) in the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.48 and Nick Boehlke (Sr. • Three Lakes) in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:02.14. Also taking first place for the Titans were Tom Roszak (Sr. • Greenfield) in the high jump with a leap of 6-7 1/2 and Brandon Houle (Jr. • Oshkosh) in the shot put with a heave of 55-7 3/4.

Taking runner-up honors for the Titans were Cal Kromm (Sr. • Omro) in the 800-meter run in a time of 1:52.89, Houle in the 35-pound weight throw with a toss of 61-8 3/4 and Brandon Lesky (Sr. • Cudahy) in the 3,000-meter run in a time of 8:45.53. The UW-Oshkosh 1,600-meter relay team also took second place in a time of 3:22.00.

The UW-Oshkosh men's indoor track and field team dominated the competition by winning 14 out of 18 events to take its own invitational held Saturday (Feb. 4) in Kolf Sports Center. The Titans piled up 326 points to outdistance second-place UW-Platteville's score of 191.5.

Ripon College finished in third place with 68 points. The Red Hawks were followed by St. Norbert College with 42 points, Lawrence University with 36, Carroll College with 31.5 and Wisconsin Lutheran College with 14.

Leading the way for the Titans was Brandon Houle (Jr. • Oshkosh) who captured the 35-pound weight throw with a toss of 62-3 and the shot put with a heave of 56-8 3/4. Steve Nowak (Jr. • Casco) also had a big day for UW-Oshkosh, winning the pole vault with a height of 15-10 and the heptathlon with 5,087 points.

Other winning running events for the Titans were Ben Ryder (Sr. • Mayville) in the 55-meter dash in a time of 6.65, Derrick Fameree (So. • Algoma) in the mile run in a time of 4:21.50 and Willy Kaul (So. • Menomonee Falls) in the 5,000-meter run with a clocking of 14:44.95.

UW-Oshkosh added first place performances by A.J. Hollanquest (So. • Wausau) in the 400-meter run with a time of 50.64, Cal Kromm (Sr. • Omro) in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:53.17 and Kevin Lofy (Jr. • Lake Geneva) crossed the finish line in a time of 23.57.

UW-Oshkosh also dominated the jumping events as Tom Rozsak (Sr. • Greenfield) took first place in the high jump with a leap of 6-8, Joe Dillon (So. • Janesville) landed first in the long jump with a distance of 20-8 1/2 and Jon DeVillers (Fr. • Menomonee Falls) took home first place honors in the triple jump with a leap of 44-0 3/4.

The 1,600-meter relay team consisting of Joel Bretl (So. • Peshtigo), Scott Michel (So. • Waupaca), Alex Sleaper (Jr. • Hartland) and Markus Tassoul (Fr. • Brussels) finished up UW-Oshkosh's first place champions with a time of 3:27.66.

Taking second-place honors for the Titans were Adam Bennett (Jr. • Kenosha) in the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 8.21, Michel in the 400-meter run in a time of 50.78 and Nate Boehlke (So. • Three Lakes) in the 800-meter run in a time of 1:54.82.

Runner-up performances also for UW-Oshkosh were Patrick O'Brien (So. • Appleton) in the 3,000-meter run in a time of 8:58.05, Billy Klitz (So. • Markesan) in the high jump with a leap of 6-2 and Jacob Gabrilska (Jr. • Pine River) in the 35-pound weight throw with a distance of 61-4. Tyler Walsh (Fr. • Dousman) rounded out the Titans second place results with 3,895 points in the heptathlon.

Taking third place for the Titans were Kyle Nakatsuji (Fr. • West Allis) in the 55-meter dash in a time of 6.78, Brandon Lesky (Sr. • Cudahy) in the mile run in a time of 4:25.16 and Lofy in the 400-meter run with a showing of 51.17.

Mark Johnson (Jr. • Hartland) added a third place performance in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:58.30, Ryan Richardson (Jr. • Winnebago, Ill.) in the 3,000-meter run in a time of 9:05.08 and Zach Johnson (Jr. • Clintonville) with a height of 14-4 1/2 in the pole vault.

Closing out the third place showings for the Titans were Danny Thompson (So. • Kewaunee) in the triple jump with a distance of 43-3 1/4 and Dillon in the heptathlon with 3,709 points.

Finishing fourth for the Titans were Nick Katsandonis (Fr. • Menasha) in the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 8.31, Alan Smith (So. • Rhinelander) in the mile run with a time of 4:26.45 and Bretl in the 400-meter run in a clocking of 51.62.

Also picking up fourth place results were Ryder in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.80, Jon Simon (So. • Milwaukee) in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:06.51 and Chris Kirch (Jr. • Lake Geneva) in the 35-pound weight throw with a toss of 51-6 1/4.

The 800-meter relay quartet of Devillers, Joe Fenrick (Sr. • Campbellsport), Nakatsuji and Ryder also captured fourth place with a time of 1:35.83.

The UW-Oshkosh men's indoor track and field team won 16 of 17 events to easily outdistance the competition in a triangular held Friday (Jan. 26) in Kolf Sports Center. UW-Oshkosh took top honors by scoring 194 points, followed by North Central College with 122 and Ripon College with 36.

Event winners for the Titans included Cal Kromm (Sr. • Omro) in the one-mile run in a time of 4:13.97, Joe Fenrick (Sr. • Campbellsport) in the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 8.17 and A.J. Hollanquest (So. • Wausau) in the 55-meter dash in a time of 6.51.

Also crossing the tape in first place for UW-Oshkosh were Kevin Lofy (Jr. • Lake Geneva) in the 400-meter run in a time of 51.03, Nate Boehlke (So. • Three Lakes) in the 800-meter run in a time of 1:55.91 and Hollanquest in the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.99. Willy Kaul (So. • Menomonee Falls) finished up the first place running events for the Titans in the 3,000-meter run in a time of 8:31.38.

Leaping to first place finishes were Tom Rozsak (Sr. • Greenfield) in the high jump with a height of 6-9, Steve Nowak (Jr. • Casco) in the long jump with a distance of 22-5 and Jon DeVillers (Fr. • Menomonee Falls) in the triple jump with a distance of 43-3. Zach Johnson (Jr. • Clintonville) also won the pole vault with a height of 15-4 1/4

In the throwing events UW-Oshkosh's Jacob Gabrilska (Jr. • Pine River) won the 35-pound weight throw with a heave of 57-9 3/4and Brandon Houle (Jr. • Oshkosh) was victorious in the shot put with a toss of 54-9 1/2.

Rounding out the event winners for the Titans were the relay teams as UW-Oshkosh captured all three events. The quartet of Hollanquest, Kyle Nakatsuji (Fr. • West Allis), Ben Ryder (Sr. • Mayville) and Markus Tassoul (Fr. • Brussels) won the 800-meter relay in a time of 1:33.46 and the foursome of Joel Bretl (So. • Peshtigo), Kromm, Scott Michael (So. • Waupaca) and Tassoul won the 1,600-meter relay in a time of 3:27.11.

The distance medley team of Scot Frassetto (Fr. • Kimberly), Harrison Fegley (Jr. • Menomonee Falls), Mark Johnson (Jr. • Hartland) and Alan Smith (So. • Rhinelander) captured top honors in a time of 10:43.92 to finish out the Titans first place performances.

Capturing runner-up honors were Ryder in the 55-meter dash in a time of 6.71, Nowak in the high jump with a height of 6-2 and in the pole vault with a distance of 15-4 and Danny Thompson (So. • Kewaunee) in the triple jump with a leap of 42-7.

Rounding out the second-place performances were Houle in the 35-pound weight throw with a distance of 57-8 1/4and Chris Kirch (Jr. • Lake Geneva) in the shot put with a toss of 49-1.

Top three honors went to UW-Oshkosh's Andrew McGuire (So. • Wisconsin Rapids) in the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 8.26 and Bretl in the 400-meter run in a time of 51.96. Finishing up the third-place performances for the Titans were Brian Kelley (So. • Winnebago, Ill.) in the 3,000-meter run in a time of 8:56.11 and Billy Klitz (So. • Markesan) in the high jump with a height of 6-2.

Placing fourth for the Titans were Frassetto in the 55-meter hurdles in a dash of 8.26, Ryan Richardson (Jr. • Winnebago, Ill.) in the 3,000-meter run in a pace of 8:57.59 and Joe Dillon (So. • Janesville) in the long jump in a distance of 19-8.

Both throwing events also produced fourth place finishes for UW-Oshkosh. Sam Wiltzuis (Fr. • Coleman) landed his shot at the 46-3 1/4mark and Kirch finished in fourth place in the 35-pound weight throw with a distance of 51-7 3/4.

Titans Top Maroons In Season Opener

A.J. Hollanquest (So. • Wausau) and Brandon Houle (Jr. • Oshkosh) each won two events to lead the UW-Oshkosh men’s indoor track and field team to a 96-45 dual meet victory over the University of Chicago in a contest held on Saturday (Jan. 15) in Kolf Sports Center.

Hollanquest won the 55-meter dash in a time of 6.58 and the 200-meter dash in a time of 23.08 and Houle tossed the shot put a distance of 54-01 3/4and the 35-pound weight throw 59-10 1/4 as they captured both events.

Other UW-Oshkosh event winners were Nick Katsandontis (Fr. • Menasha) in the 400-meter dash in a time of 53.85, Cal Kromm (Sr. • Omro) in the 3,000-meter run in a time of 8:28.57 and the 1,600-meter relay team of Joel Bretl (So. • Marinette), Kevin Lofy (Jr. • Lake Geneva), Scott Michel (So. • Waupaca) and Markus Tassoul (So. • Brussels) in a time of 3:26.93.

Tom Rozsak (Sr. • Greenfield) won the high jump with a leap of 6-8 3/4, Zach Johnson (Jr. • Clintonville) won the pole vault with a height of 15-1 and Danny Thompson (Jr. • Kewaunee) won the triple jump with a distance of 42-11 3/4for the Titans. Alan Smith (So. • Rhinelander) also won the 800-meter run in a time of 1:59.04 as UW-Oshkosh won 11 of 14 events.

Capturing runner-up finishes for UW-Oshkosh were Ben Ryder (Sr. • Mayville) in the 55-meter dash in a time of 6.81, Joe Fenrick (Sr. • Campbellsport) in the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 8.36 and Scot Frassetto (Fr. • Kimberly) in the 400-meter dash in a time of 56.25.

Other second place performances for the Titans were Mark Johnson (Jr. • Hartland) in the 800-meter run in a time of 1:59.21, Nate Boehlke (Jr. • Eagle River) in the one mile run in a time of 4:26.45 and Andrew McGuire (So. • Wisconsin Rapids) in the 3,000-meter run in a time of 8:46.74.

Second place results continued for the Titans for Chad Churchill (Fr. • Sheboygan) in the 200-meter dash in time of 23.44, Bill Klitz (So. • Markesan) in the high jump with a height of 6-0 3/4 and Joe Dillon (So. • Janesville) with a leap of 19-11 1/2 in the long jump. Jon DeVillers (Fr. • Menomonee Falls) added a runner-up finish for the Titans in the triple jump with a leap of 42-11 3/4, Wes Warriner (So. • Absecon, N.J.) in the shot put with a distance of 46-2 3/4 and Jacob Gabrilska (Jr. • Pine River) in the 35-pound weight throw in a heave of 56-5 3/4.

Highlighting third place performances for UW-Oshkosh was Chris Kirch (Jr. • Lake Geneva) in the shot put in a toss of 45-11 1/4 and the 35-pound weight throw in a throw of 51-6 1/4. Zach Johnson added a third place result in the 55- meter dash in a time of 6.86, Kyle Petersen (So. • Neenah) in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:02.03 and Brian Kelley (Jr. • Winnebago, Ill.) in the 3,000-meter run in a time of 8:49.10.

UW-Oshkosh also had third place results from Frassetto in the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 8.43 and Tassoul in the 200-meter dash in a time of 23.74. Also capturing third place for the Titans was Devillers in the long jump with a distance of 19-0 3/4 and Rozsak in the triple jump with a leap of 41-10.
