Boehnen Named To NCAA All-America Team

Matt BoehnenSenior midfielder Matt Boehnen capped an impressive UW-Oshkosh men's soccer career by being named to the 2001 NCAA Division III All-America team.

Boehnen, a senior from Verona, was one of 36 players receiving NCAA Division III All-America accolades by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), with 11 players named to each of the first and second teams and 14 to the third. Previous NCAA Division III All-America selections from UW-Oshkosh were forward Scott Deopere in 1999 (second) and 2000 (first) and midfielder Roberto Gutierrez in 1994 (third).

Despite missing the last six matches of the 2001 season due to an injury, Boehnen totaled 13 assists to lead UW-Oshkosh in that category for the third consecutive year. His 21 points in 13 contests played also featured four goals, including one match winner. Boehnen scored five points in UW-Oshkosh's 4-3 win over the University of Chicago on October 13, counting two goals and one assist. Earlier this year, Boehnen was named to the NCAA Division III All-Central Region first team.

In 2000, Boehnen received NCAA Division III All-Midwest Region first team accolades after scoring 24 points on four goals and a team-leading 16 assists in 22 matches played. Appearing in 18 matches in 1999, Boehnen compiled 25 points on four goals and a team-leading 17 assists. In 1998, while appearing in 12 matches, Boehnen registered 10 points on three goals and four assists. Boehnen's 50 career assists is the second-highest total in UW-Oshkosh history.

UW-Oshkosh logged a 16-3 record and made its eighth NCAA Division III post-season appearance this past season. The Titans have won 53 of their last 61 matches (53-7-1 record), including a 20-2 record in 2000 when they advanced to the NCAA Division III Final Four.

NCAA All-Central Region Team Features Three Titans

A total of 44 players received NCAA Division III All-Central Region status by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), with 11 players named to each of the first, second, third and fourth teams.

Boehnen, a senior from Verona, and Haga, a sophomore from Neenah, were selected to the first team, while Foster, a sophomore from Delavan, was picked to the fourth team. UW-Oshkosh and Trinity University were the only schools in the Central Region with a pair of first team selections.

The Titans yielded just 87 shots in their 19 matches, booking an impressive 0.78 goals against average. Haga totaled three assists in 16 matches played this past year after recording two assists in 22 contests during the 2000 season.

Playing in all 19 matches this past season, Foster counted 12 goals to rank second on the squad. His team-leading 32 points included four match-winning goals and eight assists. In 2000, Foster played in 21 matches, totaling 13 goals and four assists for 30 points. Foster's 25 career goals is the sixth-highest mark in UW-Oshkosh history.

Rare Home Loss Ends Season For Titans

Tyler WinnOutshot 17-4, Luther College made the most of its limited scoring opportunities as the Norse defeated UW-Oshkosh, 2-1, in a second round contest of the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship held Saturday (November 10) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex in Oshkosh.

Luther College (18-4-1) advances to Sunday's (November 11) third round action, where it will meet UW-Whitewater (12-4-2) at 1 p.m. in Oshkosh. Earlier this year, UW-Whitewater defeated Luther College by a 3-1 count.

UW-Oshkosh (16-3) dominated the flow of play against Luther College for 83 of the contest's 90 minutes. However, the seven minutes the Titans didn't proved costly as sophomores Mike Pendergast and Bryan Korth scored goals for the Norse at the 42:41 and 49:26 marks of the match, respectively.

Down 2-0, UW-Oshkosh cut the deficit in half when freshman Tyler Winn connected on his team-leading 14th goal of the season at the 50:48 mark. The Titans had two more scoring opportunities in the latter portion of the second half, but both were saved by Luther College junior goalkeeper Rick Isaacson.

UW-Oshkosh, which entered the contest ranked eighth in the NCAA Division III, ends the 2001 season by suffering only its seventh loss in 61 matches (53-7-1 record). The Titans are now 10-6-3 in NCAA Division III post-season play, with previous appearances in 1991, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1999 and 2000. Last year, UW-Oshkosh posted a 20-2 record and advanced to the NCAA Division III Final Four.

Titans Receive NCAA Post-Season Bid, Host Regional

UW-Oshkosh will host the Central Regional of the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship for the second consecutive year following its selection to the post-season event on Sunday (November 4). The NCAA extended invitations for its 2001 tournament to 44 schools, with 33 receiving automatic bids and 11 others gaining at-large requests. UW-Oshkosh, which plays as an independent, received one of the at-large invitations.

UW-Oshkosh (16-2) is making its eighth appearance in the NCAA Division III Championship, with Final Four visits in 1994 and last year. UW-Oshkosh will host second and third-round matches of the Central Regional on Saturday and Sunday (November 10-11) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex after receiving a first-round bye for the second straight year.

Action in the NCAA Division III Championship begins on Wednesday (November 7) with 12 first-round matches, including a pair in the Central Regional. Monmouth College (9-5-3) plays at Luther College (16-4-1) and UW-Whitewater (11-4-1) plays at Principia College (17-2) in the opening round for the right to debate on UW-Oshkosh's home pitch. The winner between Monmouth College and Luther College meets UW-Oshkosh on Saturday at 11 a.m., while the victor between UW-Whitewater and Principia College meets Marian College (14-3-3) on Saturday at 1 p.m. The championship match of the Central Regional, with the winner moving to the national quarterfinals, is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m.

Besides UW-Oshkosh making its eighth appearance in the NCAA Division III Championship, Luther College (Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) is making its fourth appearance, UW-Whitewater (Independent) its third and Marian College (Lake Michigan Conference) its second. Monmouth College (Midwest Conference) and Principia College (St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) are first-time NCAA post-season participants.

UW-Oshkosh, the eighth-ranked team in the NCAA Division III, enters Saturday's match with a 53-6-1 record in its last 60 matches. The Titans are 10-5-3 in NCAA Division III post-season play and have won 28 of their last 30 matches (28-3 record) played at the Kolf Sports Center Complex. The other NCAA Division III post-season visits for the Titans were in 1991, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1999 and 2000.

Titans Capture Pioneers In Regular Season Finale

Mark FosterThe UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team will head to the NCAA Division III Tournament with a 16-2 record following its 2-0 win over UW-Platteville on Saturday (November 3) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex. The shutout was UW-Oshkosh's eighth of the season and the sixth during the Titans' current 10-match winning streak.

Sophomore Mark Foster gave UW-Oshkosh, the 10th-ranked team in the NCAA Division III, a 1-0 lead by scoring his 12th goal of the season at the 11:51 mark of the first half. UW-Oshkosh's advantage held up until freshman Neil Pesch found the back of the net at the 56:43 mark of the second half. The goal was Pesch's seventh of the year.

UW-Oshkosh outshot UW-Platteville, 15-2, and held a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks. Freshman Ryan Dineen played the first 72:47 in the goal for the Titans, while freshman Bobby Post played the final 17:13.

UW-Oshkosh ends the regular season having won 53 of its last 60 matches (53-6-1 record). The Titans now lead UW-Platteville in the all-time series by a 15-2 count.

Titans Extinguish Warhawks

Derek KastenThe UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team improved its standing for consideration in the upcoming NCAA Division III Tournament by defeating long-time rival UW-Whitewater, 3-0, on Sunday (October 28) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex.

UW-Oshkosh's victory was its 15th in 17 matches this season, including its eighth in nine outings against teams with winning records. The Titans, who entered the contest ranked eighth in the country, can virtually clinch a spot in the NCAA Division III Tournament with a home win over UW-Platteville on Saturday (November 3) in the regular season finale.

UW-Oshkosh posted its seventh shutout of the year against UW-Whitewater (11-4-1), and the result upped the Titans' advantage in the all-time series with the Warhawks to 12-6-1. UW-Oshkosh freshman Ryan Dineen saw little activity in the goal as didn't have to make a save in 90 minutes of playing time.

Scoring goals for UW-Oshkosh, which outshot UW-Whitewater, 14-8, were sophomore Derek Kasten at 14:36, freshman Neil Pesch at 51:03 and sophomore Shane Lohr at 69:35.

Titans' Win Streak Continues With Overtime Win

Sam HenkeThe UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team battled through temperatures in the low 30s and excessive wind to defeat Edgewood College, 2-1 in overtime, on Thursday (October 25) in Madison.

UW-Oshkosh, 14-2 and ranked eighth in the NCAA Division III, took a 1-0 lead just 1:34 into the contest as freshman Damon Parr scored his third goal of the season. Edgewood College (9-7-1) made the score 1-1 when Rob Sergenian found the back of the net at the 37:12 mark of the first half.

After a scoreless second half, UW-Oshkosh won the contest in overtime as freshman Sam Henke tallied his second goal of the season at the 99:57 mark. UW-Oshkosh has now rallied to win its last four road matches after trailing or being tied at the end of the first half.

Despite going to overtime to post its eighth straight win, UW-Oshkosh dominated play against Edgewood College by holding advantages of 22-3 in shots and 6-1 in corner kicks. The Titans have now won six of their seven meetings with the Eagles, including a 1999 squabble in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Second Half Goals Lift Titans Over Regents

Neil PeschThe UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team made it a weekend sweep of its regionally-ranked opponents by defeating Rockford College, 2-1, on Sunday (October 21) in Rockford, Ill. UW-Oshkosh's win over the Regents, ranked seventh in the NCAA Division III Central Region, followed Saturday's (October 20) 2-0 victory over Gustavus Adolphus College, the ninth-ranked team in West Region. UW-Oshkosh entered the contest ranked eighth nationally and first in the Central Region.

UW-Oshkosh trailed 1-0 at intermission before taking control of the match early in the second period. UW-Oshkosh sophomore Derek Kasten tied the contest just 3:36 into the second half, while freshman Neil Pesch scored the match winner for the Titans just 6:39 into the second frame. The goal was Kasten's sixth of the year and Pesch's fifth.

UW-Oshkosh (13-2) outshot Rockford College (11-3-1), 18-11, and held an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks. The win was the seventh straight for UW-Oshkosh, which hasn't tasted defeat since a 2-1 setback to Wheaton College on September 29.

Titans Return Home To Shutout Gusties

Tyler WinnPlaying its first match at home since September 30, the UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team defeated Gustavus Adolphus College, 2-0, on Saturday (October 20) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex. The win was the sixth straight for UW-Oshkosh, with the previous four victories being on foreign soil.

UW-Oshkosh, 12-2 and ranked eighth in the NCAA Division III, took a 1-0 lead just 3:49 into the match as freshman Tyler Winn scored his team-leading 13th goal of the season. The Titans' 1-0 advantage held up until sophomore Mark Foster tallied his 11th goal of the year at the 66:17 mark of the second half.

UW-Oshkosh outshot Gustavus Adolphus College (9-5), 10-4, and held a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks. Freshman Ryan Dineen played all 90 minutes in the goal to gain his second shutout of the season.

UW-Oshkosh, which has now won 26 of its last 28 home matches, now leads Gustavus Adolphus College by a 4-0-3 count in the all-time series. The Gusties entered Saturday's match as the ninth-ranked team in the NCAA Division III West Region.

Titans Overcome Halftime Deficit To Defeat Spartans

Tyler WinnThe UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team overcame a halftime deficit for the second match in as many days to defeat Aurora University, 3-1, on Sunday (October 14) in Aurora, Ill.

UW-Oshkosh, 11-2 and ranked 13th in the NCAA Division III, scored on three of its eight shots in the second half to erase the Spartans' (5-10-1) one-goal lead at intermission. One day earlier, UW-Oshkosh rallied from a 3-0 halftime deficit to defeat the University of Chicago by a 4-3 overtime score.

Freshman Tyler Winn ignited UW-Oshkosh's comeback against Aurora University by tying and putting the Titans ahead with goals at the 60:07 and 62:17 marks of the second half. Winn now has 12 goals on the season, a team best. Freshman Neil Pesch capped UW-Oshkosh's scoring with his fourth goal of the year at the 87:00 mark of the second half.

UW-Oshkosh outshot Aurora University in the match, 18-6, with six Titans having two or more scoring opportunities. The Titans now lead the all-time series with the Spartans by an 8-1-2 count.

Titans Rally For Overtime Road Win

Matt BoehnenSophomore Mark Foster's overtime goal capped the biggest comeback in school history as the UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team rallied to defeat the University of Chicago, 4-3, on Saturday (October 13) in Chicago, Ill. The Titans entered the match ranked 13th in the NCAA Division III and second in its Central Region, while the Maroons were ranked third in the Central Region.

Foster's matching-winning tally came just 1:39 into the overtime period and sealed a comeback by the Titans (10-2) that begun following a 3-0 deficit. The University of Chicago (7-3) took its three-goal advantage by scoring twice in the first half (19:51 & 31:17) and once in the second (48:06). UW-Oshkosh rallied back and forced the overtime period on a goal by Foster and a pair by senior Matt Boehnen at the 66:44, 68:12 and 84:10 marks of the second half, respectively. Boehnen also assisted on Foster's goal in the second half.

UW-Oshkosh was outshot 12-10 in the match, marking the first time this season that the Titans had recorded fewer scoring opportunities than their opponent in a contest. The three goals allowed by the Titans, who are now 20-4-1 in their last 25 road matches, were the most in a match this year.

Titans Etch Shutout Over Red Hawks

Tyler WinnThe UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team remained unbeaten in its rivalry with Ripon College by defeating the Red Hawks, 4-0, on Monday (October 8) in Ripon. UW-Oshkosh, ranked 13th in the NCAA Division III, now leads the all-time series with Ripon College by a 16-0-2 count, with ties coming in 1985 and 1997.

UW-Oshkosh (9-2) outshot Ripon College (5-6) in the match, 23-3, including 13-1 in the second half. The Titans took an early lead as sophomore Derek Kasten scored in the 10th minute of the first half. Senior Matt Boehnen made the count 2-0 by scoring in the 30th minute of the same frame.

In the second half, freshman Tyler Winn scored twice for UW-Oshkosh, with goals coming in the 53rd and 76th minute. Winn now has 10 goals on the season, a team high. Freshmen Bobby Post and Ryan Dineen split time in the goal, with Post making two saves and Dineen one.

The Titans, who have allowed just seven goals in their 11 matches played this season, are now 19-4-1 in their last 24 road matches.

Titans Prosper Against Sabres

Matt BoehnenScoring once in each half, the UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team defeated Marian College, 2-0, on Saturday (October 6) in Fond du Lac. UW-Oshkosh (8-2) entered the contest ranked 16th in the NCAA Division III and second in its Central Region, while Marian College (7-2-2) was ranked 10th in the Central Region. Saturday's game was a rematch of last year's first round contest in the NCAA Division III Championship, won by UW-Oshkosh, 3-0.

Senior Matt Boehnen ignited UW-Oshkosh to its 17th win in 18 meetings with Marian College by scoring his second goal of the season just 8:48 into the match. UW-Oshkosh's one-goal advantage held up until sophomore Mark Foster found the net at the 87:10 mark of the second half. The goal was Foster's eighth of the season and the 21st of his young UW-Oshkosh career.

UW-Oshkosh outshot Marian College, 13-2, in the match, with seven shots coming in the first half and six in the second. Playing in his hometown, freshman Bobby Post guarded the goal all 90 minutes to record his second win of the year.

UW-Oshkosh has now won 18 of its last 23 road matches, sporting an 18-4-1 record.

Titans Chop Down Lumberjacks

Michael LoDucaA total of eight players scored goals as the UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team trounced Northland College, 9-0, on Sunday (September 30) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex. The scoring output marked the second time this season that the Titans had tallied nine goals in a match, with the other coming in a 9-1 win over UW-Superior on August 31.

Sophomore Shane Lohr started the scoring parade for UW-Oshkosh (7-2) by recording his first goal of the season at the 14:27 mark of the first half. The Titans went on to score seven more goals in the first period as sophomore Mark Foster scored twice and sophomore Michael LoDuca and freshmen Dominic Del Gaudio, Ross Gencheff, Damon Parr and Tyler Winn once each. UW-Oshkosh's lone goal in the second half was by sophomore Mamadee Konneh. In addition to his own goal, LoDuca assisted on three others.

UW-Oshkosh outshot Northland College (2-7) in the match, 27-1, with the lone attempt by the Lumberjacks coming in the second half. Freshman Shaun Meulemans played the entire match in the goal for UW-Oshkosh to record his first collegiate shutout.

Titans Have Home Field Streak End

Derek KastenA 22-match winning streak at the Kolf Sports Center Complex for the UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team came to an end Saturday (September 29) when Wheaton College defeated the Titans on their home pitch, 2-1. The home setback was only the 15th in the 18-year history of the UW-Oshkosh men's soccer program, lowering the Titans' all-time home field record to 126-15-1.

UW-Oshkosh (6-2) and Wheaton College (6-3-2) have met 11 times through the years, with several intense battles in NCAA Division III tournament play. Saturday's match was no exception as the two combatants fought through a scoreless firs half. UW-Oshkosh dominated play in the opening stanza by recording 10 shots and four corner kicks, while Wheaton College had no shots and two corner kicks.

In the second half, Kevin Harruff put Wheaton College on the scoreboard with a goal at the 49:05 mark. The advantage stood up until UW-Oshkosh sophomore Derek Kasten tied the debate at the 60:26 mark. Wheaton College broke the deadlock and recorded the contest's winning goal when John Kightlinger kicked his ninth ball of the season into the net at the 71:40 mark. The Thunder won the match despite being outshot in the contest, 20-6.

Titans Continue Their Home Pitch Domination

Bobby PostMillikin University was the victim as the UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team defeated its first-time opponent, 3-0, in the championship match of Valley Cup Invitational held Sunday (September 23) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex. The victory not only gave the Titans the Valley Cup crown, but also improved their season ledger to 6-1, their record in their last 49 matches to 43-5-1 and their all-time home field record to 126-14-1.

Freshman Tyler Winn, who scored three goals in the Titans' 7-1 win over St. Olaf College on Saturday (September 22), started UW-Oshkosh on its winning way against the Big Blue (5-3) by sending a penalty kick into the net at the 20:41 mark of the first half. Winn now has a team-high seven goals on the season.

Also scoring for the Titans were freshman Pat Cannon at the 34:46 mark of the first half and sophomore Mark Foster at the 75:12 mark of the second half. UW-Oshkosh outshot Millikin University, 21-5, in the match.

Freshman Bobby Post played all 90 minutes in the goal for the Titans to record his first collegiate victory. He had three saves in the match.

Titans Score Quickly And Often In Win Over Oles

Tyler WinnCounting goals on seven of its 14 shots, including three of its first four, the UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team stormed past St. Olaf College, 7-1, in the Valley Cup Invitational held Saturday (September 22) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex. In the nightcap, Millikin University, UW-Oshkosh's opponent on Sunday (September 23) defeated the Milwaukee School of Engineering, 3-2 in overtime.

UW-Oshkosh tallied three goals in the first 5:06 of the match to mark the best start of a contest in school history. Freshman Tyler Winn kicked home the first of his three goals in the match just 1:45 into play and that was followed by a goal by sophomore Derek Kasten just about two minutes later (3:44). Winn concluded UW-Oshkosh's quick start with his second goal at the 5:05 mark.

Following a goal by St. Olaf College (Ben Clymer) at the 7:28 mark, UW-Oshkosh ended its scoring on goals by Kasten at 15:53, Winn at 23:03, freshman Damon Parr at 31:59 and freshman Jason Hays at 37:02. In addition to his career-best three goals, Winn also assisted on Parr's scoring kick.

UW-Oshkosh has allowed just one shot in each of its last two matches.

First Half Start Helps Titans Defeat Vikings

Mark FosterScoring three goals in the first half, including two in the first 9:25 of the match, the UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team defeated Lawrence University, 4-1, on Monday (September 17) in Appleton. The win was the 15th for the Titans in 18 meetings with the Fox Valley rivals.

Freshmen Sam Henke and Tyler Winn ignited UW-Oshkosh (4-1) to its 41st win in 47 matches (41-5-1 record) by scoring at the 7:00 and 9:25 marks of the first half, respectively. The Titans extended their advantage to 3-0 in the opening period on a goal by sophomore Mark Foster at the 39:48 mark. Prior to his goal, Foster assisted on the scores by Henke and Winn.

Both teams scored one goal in the second half, UW-Oshkosh on a tally from freshman Pat Cannon at the 56:13 mark and Lawrence University (1-4) on a counter from Mark Wendling at the 81:13 mark. Wendling's goal came on the Vikings' lone shot of the match. In all, UW-Oshkosh held a 15-1 advantage in shots.

In the goal for UW-Oshkosh, freshman Ryan Dineen played the first half and freshman Shaun Meulemans the second.

Royals Deal Titans First Loss of Season

Shane LohrThe Bethel College men's soccer team was limited to just five shots, but one of them entered the net and provided the margin of victory as the Royals defeated UW-Oshkosh, 1-0, on Saturday (September 8) night in St. Paul, Minn.

UW-Oshkosh (3-1), the fourth-ranked team in the NCAA Division III, suffered defeat for the first time in 18 regular season matches despite owning advantages of 22-5 in shots and 4-1 in corner kicks. The Royals' lone goal was scored by Pepe Jon Chavez at the 24:15 mark of the first half.

Cited for their defensive play against the Royals were senior Matt Boehnen and sophomore Shane Lohr.

UW-Oshkosh and rival UW-Whitewater both went 1-1 in its weekend series against Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) foes Bethel College (2-2) and Macalester College (2-1). In addition to Saturday's loss, UW-Oshkosh also posted a 2-1 overtime win over Macalester College on Friday (September 7). UW-Whitewater's decisions were a 4-0 win over Bethel College on Friday and a 3-0 loss to Macalester College on Saturday.

Titans Gain Overtime Win Over Scots

Mark FosterSophomore Mark Foster tallied the match-winning goal as the UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team edged Macalester College, 2-1 in overtime, on Friday (September 7) in St. Paul, Minn. The contest was the first between the two schools since UW-Oshkosh defeated the perennial Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) power, 3-2, in the second round of the 1999 NCAA Division III Championship.

UW-Oshkosh (3-0), the fourth-ranked team in the NCAA Division III, took a 1-0 lead when senior Matt Boehnen recorded his first goal of the season at the 13:21 mark of the first half. The Titans' advantage held up until the Scots' (1-1) Alex McKiernan tied the match with just under five minutes remaining in regulation. In overtime, Foster tallied the match winner, his third goal of the season, just 4:35 into the extra period.

UW-Oshkosh outshot Macalester College, 29-9, in the match, including 5-0 in the overtime period. Freshman Ryan Dineen played all 94:35 in the goal for the Titans and recorded five saves.

UW-Oshkosh is now 40-4-1 in its last 45 matches, including a 16-3-1 ledger on the opponent's home pitch.

Titans Slay Green Knights By 3-0 Count

Tyler WinnA pair of goals within a two-minute span of the second half ignited the UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over St. Norbert College on Sunday (September 2) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex. The victory was the Titans' 16th in 19 meetings with the Green Knights and extended UW-Oshkosh's regular season winning streak to 16 matches.

Following a scoreless first half, freshman Neil Pesch put UW-Oshkosh ahead with a goal at the 62:31 mark of the second half. The goal was his third of the year after counting a pair of goals in Friday's (August 31) season-opening win over UW-Superior. Shortly after, freshman Tyler Winn extended UW-Oshkosh's advantage to 2-0 with a goal at the 63:56 mark. Sophomore Mamadee Konneh closed the scoring for the Titans with a goal at the 83:18 mark.

Freshman Ryan Dineen started for the Titans in the goal, playing 69:05 before being relieved by freshman Bobby Post. Dineen has yet to allow a goal in 115 minutes of playing time this season.

UW-Oshkosh, the fourth-ranked team in the NCAA Division III, outshot St. Norbert College, 29-2, and held a 10-1 advantage on corner kicks.

Titans Swat Yellowjackets In Season Opener

Neil PeschFreshman Neil Pesch and sophomores Mark Foster and Michael LoDuca each tallied a pair of goals as the UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team opened its 2001 season with a 9-1 victory over UW-Superior on Saturday (August 31) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex. The victory was the Titans' 23rd in their last 24 matches played at the Kolf Sports Center Complex.

UW-Oshkosh, which posted a 20-2 record and advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Division III Championship a year ago, scored three goals in the first-16 minutes of the match to dismantle UW-Superior early. In all, UW-Oshkosh scored seven goals in the first half, with counters coming at 9:10 and 12:47 by Foster, 15:19 by sophomore Derek Kasten, 21:04 and 28:52 by LoDuca and 36:16 and 43:05 by Pesch.

Following a goal by UW-Superior's Luke Johnston at the 62:58 mark of the second half, UW-Oshkosh closed the scoring with goals by freshmen Tyler Winn and sophomore Tim O'Brien at the 84:07 and 85:43 marks, respectively. UW-Oshkosh held a 39-2 advantage on shots.

UW-Oshkosh had three players, all freshmen, see action in the goal with Ryan Dineen playing 45 minutes, Bobby Post 22:20 and Shaun Meulemans 22:40.
