Three Titans Receive All-Region Honors
Kasten was joined on the 44-member All-Central Region squad by teammates Brad Haga (Jr. Neenah) and Shane Lohr (Jr. New Berlin), both fourth team honorees. Kasten started 18 contests for UW-Oshkosh this past season, leading the Titans with 15 goals, including five match winners, and 35 points. The forward had two goals in a match four times, including the only scores in UW-Oshkosh wins of 2-0 over Marian College and 2-1 over both UW-Whitewater and St. Norbert College. Transferring to UW-Oshkosh from NCAA Division I UW-Milwaukee, Kasten started 18 matches for the Titans in 2001. He registered seven goals to rank third on the team and 19 points to place fourth. Kasten had two match-winning goals and scored twice during the Titans' 7-1 win over St. Olaf College. Haga, a defender, was named to the NCAA Division III All-Central Region fourth team after receiving first team accolades in 2001. Haga started 17 matches for the Titans this past year, totaling one goal and one assist for three points. His defensive prowess helped UW-Oshkosh allow just 18 goals and record eight shutouts in 19 matches. In 2001, Haga started 15 contests as the Titans allowed just 15 goals and compiled eight shutouts in 19 matches. In 2000, Haga started all 22 matches for a UW-Oshkosh squad that allowed just 12 goals and totaled 13 shutouts. Haga recorded three assists in 2001 and two in 2000. Lohr, a midfielder, started all 18 matches for UW-Oshkosh this past year, totaling one goal and four assists for six points. He had one goal and one assist during the Titans' 5-0 win over Lawrence University. In 2001, Lohr started 18 matches, compiling two goals and 12 assists for 16 points. His assist total that year ranked second on the team. In 2000, Lohr started 18 contests, scoring once and dishing off six assists. UW-Oshkosh has fashioned a 49-9-2 record the past three seasons after posting marks of 13-4-2 in 2002, 16-3 in 2001 and 20-2 in 2000. The Titans have appeared in NCAA Division III post-season play the past four years, including the 2000 campaign when they advanced to the national semifinals. Flying Dutchmen Remove Titans From NCAA Tourney
Hope College (17-4-1), which trounced Dominican University, 4-0, on Wednesday (Nov. 13), will meet Wheaton College (16-3-2) in a third round contest on Saturday (Nov. 16) at 1 p.m. in Oshkosh. Wheaton College advanced to its debate with Hope College by trimming Concordia University, 2-0, on Friday in Oshkosh after receiving a first round bye. Hope College broke a scoreless tie with UW-Oshkosh (13-4-2) by finding the back of the net at the 60:43 and 63:42 marks of the second half. Edward Huebner gave the Flying Dutchmen a 1-0 lead while Tyler Basler extended the Michigan school's advantage to 2-0 shortly after. Huebner and Basler both have 10 goals for the Flying Dutchmen this season. UW-Oshkosh outshot Hope College, 13-6, but the Titans' advantage was misleading when considering that nearly half of their scoring attempts came from 20-25 yards away. Derek Kasten (Jr. Greenfield) and Ryan Stone (Fr. Jackson) each took three shots to lead UW-Oshkosh. Hope College's victory was its seventh in a row, while the setback for UW-Oshkosh was just its second in 12 matches (9-2-1 record). Earlier this year, Hope College defeated UW-Oshkosh, 2-1, as Huebner and Basler again accounted for both goals scored by the Flying Dutchmen. Next year, the two teams will meet in a regular season squabble in Oshkosh. UW-Oshkosh, which entered the contest ranked 21st in the NCAA Division III, ends the 2002 season by suffering only its 11th loss in 79 matches (66-11-2 record). The Titans are now 10-7-3 in NCAA Division III post-season play, with previous appearances in 1991, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1999, 2000 and 2001. UW-Oshkosh advanced to the NCAA Division III Final Four in 1994 and 2000. Titans Receive NCAA Post-Season Bid, Host Regional
Early Goals Ignite Titans To Win Over Maroons
UW-Oshkosh (13-3-2) entered Saturday's contest ranked fourth in the NCAA Division III Central Region and the outcome almost assures the Titans one of the seven independent bids to the NCAA's post-season gala. Invitations to the NCAA Division III Championship will be extended on Sunday (Nov. 10). Stone scored his fourth and fifth goals of the season at the 6:38 and 10:18 marks of the first half, respectively, to give UW-Oshkosh a quick 2-0 lead. The University of Chicago (11-6-1), ranked seventh in the NCAA Division III Central Region, closed its deficit to 2-1 on Eugene Sung's goal at the 29:55 mark of the opening period. All the scoring in the first half, and for that matter the contest, was concluded by a goal at the 41:54 mark by UW-Oshkosh's Derek Kasten (Jr. Greenfield). The goal was Kasten's team-leading 15th of the season. Titans Stab Green Knights
Kasten gave UW-Oshkosh (12-3-2) a 1-0 lead with his scoring strike at the 31:35 mark of the first half. Following a goal by the Green Knights' Chad Fairchild at the 56:13 mark of the second period, Kasten then broke the deadlock between the two Fox Valley combatants by counting his UW-Oshkosh-leading 14th goal of the season with 25:25 remaining in the match. UW-Oshkosh, ranked fourth in the NCAA Division III Central Region, outshot St. Norbert College (12-3-1), 14-2, and held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks. The Titans have now gone 8-1-1 in their last 10 matches, while the setback was just the first for the Green Knights in their last seven contests (5-1-1 record). UW-Oshkosh closes its regular season by hosting the University of Chicago (10-5-1), ranked seventh in the NCAA Division III Central Region, on November 9. Titans Exterminate Red Hawks
Following a 4-2-1 start to the 2002 season, UW-Oshkosh has fashioned a 7-1-1 record in its last nine matches to remain in strong contention for a bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament. The Titans (11-3-2) conclude their regular season with contests at St. Norbert College (12-2-1) on November 3 and at home against the University of Chicago (9-5-1) on November 9. Damon Parr (So. Hudson) scored twice to lead UW-Oshkosh to its 17th win against Ripon College in 19 matches (17-0-2 record) by counting goals at the 4:15 mark of the first half and 73:00 of the second. The goals were his second and third of the season. UW-Oshkosh also received scoring strikes from Mamadee Konneh (Jr. Monrovia, Liberia) at the 38:00 mark of the first half and Pat Cannon (So. Mukwonago) at the 61:00 mark of the second. Konneh now has six goals on the season and Cannon three. UW-Oshkosh's Shaun Meulemans (So. Oshkosh) got his third shutout of the year with the win. Titans Capture Pioneers
Nick Shebesta (Fr. New Berlin), playing in just his fourth match of the year as he recovers from an injury, put the Titans ahead quickly with his goal just 3:02 into the contest. Shebesta also assisted on UW-Oshkosh's second goal of the match, a tally by Derek Kasten (Jr. Greenfield) at the 66:49 mark of the second half. The goal for Kasten was his team-leading 12th of the season. UW-Oshkosh (10-3-2) outshot UW-Platteville (9-5-3) by a 14-2 count, with both Pioneer scoring attempts belonging to Andy Sujecki. The Titans also had an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks as they defeated the Pioneers for the 16th time in 18 tries (16-2 record). UW-Oshkosh, ranked fourth in the NCAA Division III Central Region, recorded its seventh shutout of the year with the win, including the fourth by goalkeeper Ryan Dineen (So. Brookfield). Titans Suffer Overtime Loss To Scots
Andrew Wissler scored the winning goal for Macalester College (10-3-1) as he knocked the ball into the net from eight-feet away at the 93:59 mark of the match. His shot, only the fifth in the contest for the Scots, was set up after UW-Oshkosh misplayed the free kick of Macalester College's Devin Homme. UW-Oshkosh (10-3-1) totaled 11 shots in the match, including eight in the second half. Derek Kasten (Jr. Greenfield) and Ryan Stone (Fr. Jackson) each had three scoring attempts to lead the Titans. Both teams entered the match regionally ranked in the NCAA Division III, with UW-Oshkosh tabbed fourth in the Central Region and Macalester College eighth in the West Region. Friday's shutout was the 10th in 11 matches for the Scots, who have allowed only five goals all season. It also marked the first time that UW-Oshkosh had been shutout in 29 matches. Titans Clip Warhawks In Double Overtime
Kasten, who opened the scoring with a goal just 1:17 into the match, prevented a tie between the two rivals by recording his UW-Oshkosh-leading 11th goal of the season. With only seven independent berths available for the upcoming NCAA Division III Tournament, UW-Oshkosh's (9-2-2) victory over UW-Whitewater (12-3) may loom large in the post-season selection process. UW-Whitewater entered its annual debate with UW-Oshkosh ranked fourth in the NCAA Division III Central Region, while the Titans were ranked fifth. UW-Oshkosh outshot UW-Whitewater by an 18-10 count, but saw its quick one-goal lead evaporate when the Warhawks' Bobby Arsiniega tied the match with his score at the 32:28 mark of the first half. The highly-competitive match featured 54 fouls, including three red cards and one yellow card on UW-Whitewater and three yellow cards on UW-Oshkosh. The Warhawks played a good portion of the second half and both overtime periods with just nine players on the field as they fell to 6-13-1 against the Titans. First-Half Goals Hold Up In Titans' Win Over Cardinals
UW-Oshkosh (8-2-2) entered the scoring ledger at the 18:05 mark of the first half as Derek Kasten (Jr. Greenfield) took a pass from Mamadee Konneh (Jr. Monrovia, Liberia) and beat the St. Mary's University goalkeeper. The Titans added an insurance goal before the opening period ended as Mark Foster (Jr. Delavan) tapped in Ryan Stone's (Fr. Jackson) crossing pass at the 44:59 mark. Kasten leads the Titans with nine goals this season, while Foster has seven. UW-Oshkosh, ranked fifth in the NCAA Division III Central Region, outshot St. Mary's University (4-5-2), 10-7, and had a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks. UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Ryan Dineen (So. Brookfield) made four saves in the match to record his third shutout of the year. UW-Oshkosh is now 6-0-1 in its all-time series with St. Mary's University. Titans Tie Nationally-Ranked Gusties
Gustavus Adolphus College (9-1-1), ranked eighth in the NCAA Division III and first in its West Region, took a 1-0 lead on Eric Carl's goal just 2:48 into the match. Foster's tally, the lone serious scoring strike by the Titans in the second half, tied the match and sent it to extra play. Assisting on Foster's goal were Brad Haga (Jr. Neenah) and Ben Olson (So. New Hope, Minn.). UW-Oshkosh had four shots and Gustavus Adolphus College two in overtime, with the Titans' Ryan Dineen (So. Brookfield) making the only save. In the second period, Wheaton College (7-3-1) outshot UW-Oshkosh, 10-5, but failed to score. The Titans found the back of the net once on their limited second half scoring strikes, a goal by Mamadee Konneh (Jr. Monrovia, Liberia) at the 74:44 mark. Wheaton College, which allowed just 10 goals in its previous 10 matches, outshot UW-Oshkosh, 17-11, in the contest. UW-Oshkosh's victory was only its third, all on the road, in 12 meetings with Wheaton College. It also was the most goals scored by the Titans against the Thunder in the all-time series. Titans Stifle Raiders
UW-Oshkosh (6-2-1) outshot the Milwaukee School of Engineering (3-7-1), 22-2, and held a 13-2 advantage in corner kicks. The Titans found the back of the net once each half as Brad Haga (Jr. Neenah) scored his first career goal at the 17:54 mark of the opening period and Sam Henke (So. Wauwatosa) his first goal of the season at the 76:59 mark of the final frame. Ryan Dineen (So. Brookfield) played all 90 minutes in the goal for UW-Oshkosh and improved his record to 3-0 on the season by notching his second straight shutout. Dineen's performance helped the Titans defeat the Raiders for the fourth time in as many meetings. The victory for the Titans was their 101st in a visiting venue since 1984, the year the sport began at UW-Oshkosh. The Titans are currently 101-35-10 on the road, 12-14-1 in neutral settings and 134-17-11 at home during their 19-year history. Titans Cloud Stars

The shutout was the fourth of the year for the Titans, who earlier held Marian College, Lawrence University and Edgewood College without a goal. UW-Oshkosh and Dominican University brought to the match some lofty regional rankings as the Titans were sorted sixth in the NCAA Division III Central Region and the Stars 10th. Plainsmen Hold Off Titans
Nebraska Wesleyan University (6-2-1), a first-time opponent of UW-Oshkosh (4-2-1), jumped out to a 3-0 lead over the Titans as the Plainsmen received a pair of goals from Troy Ray and one from Brad Schweer.
