Four Titans Named To All-Region Team

UW-Oshkosh men’s soccer players Ryan Dineen (Sr. • Brookfield), C.J. Lipinski (Jr. • New Berlin), Dave Makovec (So. • Mukwonago) and Ben Olson (Sr. • Robbinsdale, Minn.) have received NCAA Division III All-North Central Region honors by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

A total of 33 players were named to this year’s all-region squad, with Dineen and Olson selected to the second team and Lipinski and Makovec to the third.

Dineen, a goalkeeper, started 17 of the Titans' 18 matches this past season and tallied seven shutouts, 53 saves and a 0.84 goals against average. He also scored one goal in UW-Oshkosh's 3-0 win over Lawrence University on Oct. 13. Dineen was an all-region first team choice a year ago after compiling 15 shutouts, 63 saves and a 0.78 goals against average. Dineen concluded his 64-match career (62 starts) by posting 28 shutouts and yielding just 40 goals.

Lipinski and Olson, both defenders, spearheaded a UW-Oshkosh defense this past season that shutout 10 opponents and allowed just 14 goals. Both players started all 18 matches for the Titans, with Lipinski totaling four assists and Olson one. In 2003, Lipinski and Olson started all 22 contests for UW-Oshkosh and helped the Titans record 16 shutouts and surrender just eight goals. Olson finished his UW-Oshkosh career with eight assists and starting assignments in 77 of a possible 78 matches.

Makovec, a midfielder, started 15 matches for the Titans this past season and counted two goals and a team-leading seven assists for 11 points. Makovec scored one goal and recorded an assist in the Titans' 5-0 win over Benedictine University on Oct. 31. In 2003, Makovec started 21 contests and totaled three goals and four assists for 10 points.

UW-Oshkosh compiled a 9-5-4 record this past year to register its 20th consecutive winning season.

Snapped In Season Finale

Dave MakovecStuart Loe scored just 10:24 into the contest as the UW-Whitewater men's soccer team beat UW-Oshkosh, 1-0, on Saturday (Nov. 6) in Whitewater.

Loe took a feed from Ryan Schuettpelz and slipped his only shot of the match past UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Ryan Dineen (Sr. • Brookfield) for the game's winning tally. Loe's goal, his ninth of the season, helped UW-Whitewater defeat UW-Oshkosh for just the second time in 12 matches.

UW-Oshkosh (9-5-4), which had its eight-match unbeaten streak end with the loss, attempted 17 shots against UW-Whitewater (12-7). Dave Makovec (So. • Mukwonago) took five shots to lead the Titans, while T.J. Ayres (Fr. • Middleton) fired four, Nick Shebesta (Jr. • New Berlin) three and C.J. Lipinski (Jr. • New Berlin) two. The Titans had four of their shots stopped by UW-Whitewater goalkeeper E.J. Sesslemann.

UW-Whitewater took eight shots in the match, with one scoring and two of them being saved by Dineen. Jeff Derer and Bob Moelter had two shots each to lead the Warhawks.

Saturday's match was regular season finale for both teams. Selections to the NCAA Division III Championship will be announced on Monday (Nov. 8), with UW-Whitewater and possibly UW-Oshkosh receiving a bid to the event. The Titans have been invited to NCAA Division III postseason play the five past years.

Titans Rout Eagles To Extend Unbeaten Streak

Nick ShebestaNick Shebesta (Jr. • New Berlin) scored twice and registered an assist in the first 22 minutes of play to lead the UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team to a 5-0 victory over Benedictine University (Ill.) on Sunday (Oct. 31) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex.

Shebesta gave UW-Oshkosh (9-4-4) a 1-0 advantage on his goal just 7:31 into the game. Shebesta later put the Titans up by four goals when he scored at the 21:02 mark of the contest.

UW-Oshkosh had two other scores in the first half as Dave Makovec (So. • Mukwonago) and Ryan Compty (Fr. • Mukwonago) tallied goals at the 12:41 and 17:30 marks of the match, respectively. One of the assists on Compty's goal was awarded to Shebesta, who entered the match with only two goals and three assists on the season.

UW-Oshkosh, which fired 24 shots in the contest, closed its scoring on Shaun Gallagher's (Fr. • Mukwonago) goal at the 63:45 mark of the game.

UW-Oshkosh limited Benedictine University (3-14-1) to just two shots in the match. Combining for the Titans' 10th shutout of the season were goalkeepers Ryan Dineen (Sr. • Brookfield), Parker Lindow (Fr. • Plymouth) and Derek Christiansen (Fr. • Cedarburg).

UW-Oshkosh extended its unbeaten streak to eight matches with the win. The Titans have gone 6-0-2 in those eight contests by posting seven shutouts and yielding just one goal.

Titans Shut Down Falcons

Kevin MurphyKevin Murphy (So. • Appleton) scored the lone goal of the match as the UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team edged Concordia University, 1-0, on Tuesday (Oct. 26) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex.

Murphy's goal, assisted by Dave Makovec (So. • Mukwonago) and Ryan Compty (Fr. • Mukwonago), came at the 20:36 mark of the contest. The goal was Murphy's sixth of the season.

UW-Oshkosh (8-4-4) took 13 shots in the match, including eight that were saved by Concordia University (14-4) goalkeeper Steve Purcell. The Falcons had seven of their nine shots stopped by UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Ryan Dineen (Sr. • Brookfield). It was the 28th career shutout for Dineen.

UW-Oshkosh, which clinched its 20th straight winning season with the victory, has compiled a 5-0-2 record in its last seven matches. The Titans have yielded just one goal in those seven contests, a score by Ripon College on Oct. 20.

UW-Oshkosh's shutout of Concordia University, the 2004 regular season champion of the Lake Michigan Conference, was its ninth of the year.

Titans Play Third Scoreless Tie Of Season

Ryan DineenThe unbeaten streaks for the University of Chicago (Ill.) and UW-Oshkosh men's soccer teams continued as the two combatants played to a scoreless double overtime tie on Saturday (Oct. 23) in Chicago. It was the Titans' third scoreless tie of the 2004 season, with the others being against the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) on Sept. 11 and Dominican University (Ill.) on Oct. 9.

The University of Chicago (10-1-3), ranked 10th in the NCAA Division III by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, has posted a 7-0-2 record in its last nine matches, while UW-Oshkosh (7-4-4) has gone 4-0-2 in its last six. The Titans have allowed just one goal over those six contests.

The University of Chicago outshot UW-Oshkosh, 12-5, and posted a 7-5 advantage in corner kicks. Maroon goalkeeper Keith Crum collected a pair of saves to notch his school-record 10th shutout of the season. Titan goalkeeper Ryan Dineen (Sr. • Brookfield) stopped four shots to register his sixth shutout of the year and the 27th of his career.

Saturday's contest was the seventh between the two schools, with UW-Oshkosh holding a 5-1-1 advantage in the all-time series.

Titans Thump Red Hawks

Ryan StoneThe UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team scored seven unanswered goals, including six in the second half, to rout Ripon College, 7-1, on Wednesday (Oct. 20) in Ripon. It was the highest goal count of the season for the Titans, who have outscored their last five opponents by a 21-1 tally.

Ripon College (4-9) took a 1-0 lead over UW-Oshkosh (7-4-3) as Dustin Shellin broke free and scored just 9:02 into play. UW-Oshkosh sent the match to intermission tied 1-1 as Dan Schmeeckle (Jr. • Stevens Point) scored at the 21:05 mark of the contest.

UW-Oshkosh found the back of the net on six of its 13 shots in the second half as T.J. Ayres (Fr. • Middleton) scored and Ryan Stone (Jr. • Jackson) followed with back-to-back goals to give UW-Oshkosh a 4-1 lead at the 57:26 mark of the match. Ayres came back with a goal in the 63rd minute of the game to make the score 5-1 and the Titans sealed the victory with goals by Kevin Murphy (So. • Appleton) and Peter Hurley (Fr. • Neenah) in the final 14 minutes.

UW-Oshkosh fired 24 shots in the contest, while Ripon College took nine. The Titans, 19-0-2 in their last 21 meetings with the Red Hawks, also had a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Ryan Dineen (Sr. • Brookfield) went the distance guarding the goal for the Titans. He allowed one goal and stopped three shots.

Titans Swat Yellowjackets

Ryan ComptyRyan Compty (Fr. • Mukwonago) and Nick Romano (Fr. • Naperville, Ill.) both scored one goal and assisted on another as the UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team defeated UW-Superior, 5-0, on Sunday (Oct. 17) in Superior. It was the fourth consecutive shutout for the Titans, who have posted a 3-0-1 record in those four contests.

Compty started UW-Oshkosh (6-4-3) on its way to a fifth straight win over UW-Superior (4-10-3) by scoring an unassisted goal just 13:31 into play. The Titans took a 3-0 lead to intermission on goals by Kevin Murphy (So. • Appleton) and Nick Shebesta (Jr. • New Berlin). Murphy's goal was assisted by Dave Makovec (So. • Mukwonago) and Darren Gallagher (Sr. • Mukwonago), while Shebesta's goal came on a penalty kick.

UW-Oshkosh extended its advantage to 5-0 on goals by Romano and Peter Hurley (Fr. • Neenah) in the final nine minutes of the match. Romano's goal was assisted by Compty, while Hurley's goal was assisted by Romano and Erik Solberg (Fr. • Eden Prairie, Minn.).

UW-Oshkosh outshot UW-Superior, 27-2, including 14-0 in the first half. Guarding the goal for the Titans and combining for the shutout were Parker Lindow (Fr. • Plymouth) and Derek Christiansen (Fr. • Cedarburg).

Titans Post 17th Straight Win Over Vikings

Ryan DineenThe UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team scored three goals in the first 35 minutes of play and handed Lawrence University a 3-0 loss on Wednesday (Oct.13) in Appleton. It was UW-Oshkosh's 17th straight win over Lawrence University, including the 12th by a shutout.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Ryan Dineen (Sr. • Brookfield) was extremely vocal in the match as he contributed both offensively and defensively. Dineen gave the Titans a 3-0 lead when he scored his first collegiate goal on a penalty kick at the 34:53 mark of the contest. Defensively, Dineen recorded his 26th career shutout by saving five Lawrence University (5-5-2) shots.

UW-Oshkosh (5-4-3) took a 1-0 lead on Dan Schmeeckle's (Jr. • Stevens Point) goal just 10:13 into play. The Titans extended their lead to 2-0 on Kevin Murphy's (So. • Appleton) goal at the 28:35 mark of the match.

UW-Oshkosh outshot Lawrence University, 23-10, and had a 10-4 advantage in corner kicks. The Titans had 11 of their shots saved by Lawrence University goalkeeper Matt Wolin.

Titans, Stars Play To Scoreless Tie

C.J. LipinskiThe UW-Oshkosh and Dominican University (Ill.) men's soccer teams couldn't find the net in 110 minutes of play and had to settle for a scoreless double overtime tie on Saturday (Oct. 9) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex.

It was UW-Oshkosh's (4-4-3) second scoreless tie of the 2004 season, with the other being against the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) on Sept. 11. The Titans also played to a 1-1 double overtime tie with Wilmington College (Ohio) on Sept. 4.

Dominican University (9-2-1), which was coming off a 2-1 double overtime loss to Aurora University (Ill.) on Wednesday (Oct. 6), has yet to score in four meetings with UW-Oshkosh. The Stars lost twice to the Titans a year ago, including a 1-0 decision in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Division III Championship.

UW-Oshkosh attempted 12 shots in Saturday's match, including nine that were saved by Dominican University goalkeeper Jonathan Maendel. Dominican University took five shots in the match, including two that were stopped by UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Ryan Dineen (Sr. • Brookfield).

UW-Oshkosh recorded its fifth shutout of the season behind the strong defensive play of C.J. Lipinski (Jr. • New Berlin). Lipinski and his defensive mates limited Dominican University to just two shots after the first period.

Titans Rout Pioneers In Titan Stadium Debut

Nick ShebestaThe UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team made its inaugural appearance at Titan Stadium an overwhelming success as it defeated UW-Platteville, 6-0, on Sunday (Oct. 3).

UW-Oshkosh, which is scheduled to play its three remaining home contests of the 2004 season at the Kolf Sports Center Complex, will move its home matches to Titan Stadium on a permanent basis beginning next fall. With exception of a few games at Schumerth Field, UW-Oshkosh has played all of its home matches during the past 20-plus seasons at the Kolf Sports Center Complex.

UW-Oshkosh (4-4-2) scored goals against UW-Platteville (5-6-1) on its first four shots of the match, including Kevin Murphy's (So. • Appleton) attempt just 1:38 into play. The Titans followed Murphy's score with goals by Ryan Stone (Jr. • Jackson), Dave Makovec (So. • Mukwonago) and Nick Shebesta (Jr. • New Berlin) at the 3:17, 8:23 and 12:15 marks of the contest, respectively.

UW-Oshkosh concluded its scoring parade with a late first half goal (39:22) by Shaun Gallagher (Fr. • Mukwonago) and a second half tally (77:47) by T.J. Ayres (Fr. • Middleton).

The Titans outshot the Pioneers, 27-6, and posted a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks. UW-Oshkosh totaled eight assists in the contest, including two each by Shebesta and Stone. Guarding the net for UW-Oshkosh and combining for the shutout were goalkeepers Ryan Dineen (Sr. • Brookfield), Derek Christiansen (Fr. • Cedarburg) and Parker Lindow (Fr. • Plymouth).

Titans Fall To Nationally-Ranked Thunder

Ryan StoneWheaton College (Ill.) scored two early goals and held on to defeat UW-Oshkosh, 2-1, in a men's soccer match played Friday (Oct. 1) in Wheaton, Ill. The Thunder victory snapped a three-match losing streak to the Titans, including a 1-0 setback in the third round of last year's NCAA Division III Championship.

Wheaton College (8-2), ranked 12th in the NCAA Division III by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, jumped to a 1-0 lead just 8:07 into play when Sean Pearman took a crossing pass and sent the ball into the net. The Thunder extended their advantage to 2-0 at the 24:49 mark of the contest when Sean Rigby headed a deflected pass into the goal.

UW-Oshkosh (3-4-2) cut its 2-0 deficit in half when Ryan Stone (Jr. • Jackson) scored 57:26 into the match off a Shaun Gallagher (Fr. • Mukwonago) assist. The goal was Stone's second of the season. UW-Oshkosh put pressure on the Wheaton College defense in the closing minutes, but unsuccessfully changed the score.

Wheaton College outshot UW-Oshkosh by an 18-10 count and held a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks. UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Ryan Dineen (Sr. • Brookfield) made six saves in the contest, while Wheaton College netminder Paul St. Aubyn made two.

Titans Knock Off Raiders

T.J. AyresT.J. Ayres (Fr. • Middleton) scored twice and Dan Schmeeckle (Jr. • Stevens Point) once as the UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team defeated the Milwaukee School of Engineering, 3-1, on Sunday (Sept. 26) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex.

UW-Oshkosh (3-3-2) jumped to a 1-0 lead as Schmeeckle scored just 14:55 into play. The Milwaukee School of Engineering (3-5-2) tied the match at 1-1 when Demetrius Banks scored at the 23:57 mark of the contest.

Ayres broke the deadlock between the two schools when he scored 1:45 before intermission. Ayres then gave the Titans added cushion when he scored 5:52 after the halftime break. It was the first multiple goal game of Ayres' career.

UW-Oshkosh took 12 shots in the match, including two by Ayres, Schmeeckle and Ryan Compty (Fr. • Mukwonago). The Milwaukee School of Engineering was limited to just three shots in the contest.

UW-Oshkosh has won all five of its meetings with the Milwaukee School of Engineering, outscoring the Raiders by a 14-2 count in those contests.

Titans Top DuHawks On Own Goal

Ryan DineenFor some, it's a matter of being in the right place at the right time.

But on Saturday (Sept. 25) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex, the UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team benefited from Loras College (Iowa) being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The Titans took advantage of an own goal to shut out Loras College, 1-0. UW-Oshkosh (2-3-2) gained the victory when Loras College (4-3) goalkeeper Keith Smerko misplayed a cross at the 36:55 mark of the contest and the ball squirted into the net.

The two teams combined for 12 shots, with the Titans taking seven and the DuHawks five. All seven UW-Oshkosh shots were stopped by Smerko, while four Loras College shots were saved by Titan goalkeeper Ryan Dineen (Sr. • Brookfield). Johnny Malan (Jr. • Brookfield), Kevin Murphy (So. • Appleton) and Ryan Stone (Jr. • Jackson) fired two shots each to account for six of UW-Oshkosh's seven shots.

Saturday's match was the first between the two schools since 1999, with UW-Oshkosh tying the all-time series at 3-3 following its win.

Muskies Pull Away From Titans

T.J. AyresLakeland College scored both of its goals in the last nine minutes of play to defeat UW-Oshkosh, 2-0, in a men's soccer match held Saturday (Sept. 18) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex.

Lakeland College (3-3-1) took only three shots in the match, but scoring strikes by Zach Buchman and Scott Kress were enough to provide the Muskies with their margin of victory. Buchman gave Lakeland College a 1-0 lead on his goal with 8:35 left in the match, while Kress extended the Muskies' advantage to 2-0 on his goal with just 12 seconds remaining.

UW-Oshkosh (1-3-2) fired 21 shots in the match, including six by T.J. Ayres (Fr. • Middleton), four by Dave Makovec (So. • Mukwonago) and three by Johnny Malan (Jr. • Brookfield). The Titans had 10 of their shots saved by Lakeland College goalkeeper Joe Silverberg.

Saturday's match was the third between the two schools. Previously, UW-Oshkosh defeated Lakeland College by counts of 7-0 in 1996 and 3-0 in 2003.

Titans Suffer Rare Loss To Green Knights

Ryan StoneChris Marx's goal with just under nine minutes to play pushed the St. Norbert College men's soccer team to a 3-2 victory over UW-Oshkosh on Wednesday (Sept. 15) in De Pere.

Marx's goal gave the Green Knights their first win over the Titans since a 3-1 triumph in Oshkosh on Oct. 29, 1986. The St. Norbert College victory snapped a 17-match losing streak for the Green Knights in the series.

St. Norbert College (5-0) took a 2-0 halftime lead before UW-Oshkosh (1-2-2) answered with two goals of its own in the second half. Marx's game winner came off a throw-in and a deflection at the 81:24 mark of the match.

St. Norbert College took control of the match early as Travis King scored just 9:25 into play. The Green Knights cushioned their advantage when Nick Bonifas scored at the 33:04 mark of the game.

UW-Oshkosh answered in the second half on a goal by Shaun Gallagher (Fr. • Mukwonago) nearly 11 minutes into play. The Titans tied the match at the 73:52 mark of the contest when Ryan Stone (Jr. • Jackson) knocked in a loose ball that squirted away from St. Norbert College goalkeeper Yuri Petrasz. Stone also had one of the assists on Gallagher's goal.

Petrasz made five saves for St. Norbert College, as UW-Oshkosh outshot the Green Knights, 17-15. Ryan Dineen (Sr. • Brookfield) made two saves as UW-Oshkosh's goalkeeper.

Titans Down Sabres For First Win Of Season

Kevin MurphyThe UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team won its first match of the young 2004 season by defeating Marian College, 1-0, on Sunday (Sept. 12) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex.

UW-Oshkosh, which went 0-1-2 in its previous three contests, topped Marian College (0-4-1) behind Kevin Murphy's (So. • Appleton) unassisted goal just 6:38 into play. It's only the second time in 21 years that it took UW-Oshkosh until the fourth match of the season to win its first contest.

UW-Oshkosh took 19 shots in the game, including four by T.J. Ayres (Fr. • Middleton) and three each by Murphy and Alex Minten (Fr. • Sturgeon Bay). Marian College fired seven shots, including two each by T.J. DiPrizio and Jeremy Ross.

Both goal keepers were busy in the match as Marian College's Marko Dugandzic stopped 11 shots and UW-Oshkosh's Ryan Dineen five.

Sunday's match was the 21st between the two schools, with UW-Oshkosh now owning a 20-1 advantage in the all-time series.

Titans, Tommies Battle To Scoreless Tie

Ryan DineenThree goalkeepers combined to save 13 shots as the UW-Oshkosh and University of St. Thomas (Minn.) men's soccer teams played to a scoreless double overtime tie on Saturday (Sept. 11) at the Kolf Sports Center Complex. It was the second consecutive match that resulted in a tie for UW-Oshkosh, with the other being a 1-1 double overtime contest with John Carroll University (Ohio) on Sept. 4.

UW-Oshkosh (0-1-2) attempted 15 shots in the match, including eight that were saved by University of St. Thomas goalkeepers Matt Carlson and Peder Hatling. Carlson had three saves for the Tommies in 45 minutes of action, while Hatling recorded five stops in 65 minutes of play.

The University of St. Thomas (3-0-1) got off eight shots in the contest, including five that were kept out of the net by UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Ryan Dineen (Sr. • Brookfield). Dineen played all of the contest's 110 minutes to tally his first shutout of the season and the 22nd of his career.

Saturday's match was the first between UW-Oshkosh and the University of St. Thomas since 1998. The Titans hold a 5-1-2 advantage in the all-time series, including a 2-1 victory over the Tommies in the 1991 NCAA Division III Championship.

Titans, Quakers Play To Tie

Dan SchmeeckleThe UW-Oshkosh and Wilmington College (Ohio) men's soccer teams battled through 110 minutes of physical activity for a 1-1 double overtime tie on Saturday (Sept. 4) in Wilmington, Ohio.

UW-Oshkosh (0-1-1) took a 1-0 lead over its first-time opponent as Dan Schmeeckle (Jr. • Stevens Point) scored on an assist from Kevin Murphy (So. • Appleton) at the 64:31 mark of the second half. Three minutes later (67:31), Wilmington College (1-0-1) evened the tally when Alex Van der Sluijs converted a penalty kick.

Wilmington College outshot UW-Oshkosh, 3-1, in the two overtime periods after holding a 14-12 advantage at the end of regulation. UW-Oshkosh's shot count included two attempts each from Murphy, Schmeeckle, Ryan Compty (Fr. • Mukwonago), Alex Minten (Fr. • Sturgeon Bay) and Nick Shebesta (Jr. • New Berlin).

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Ryan Dineen (Sr. • Brookfield) had to make eight saves in the match, including two in the second overtime period. Wilmington College goalkeeper Justin Saylor stopped seven shots in the contest, including one in the first overtime frame.

UW-Oshkosh entered the game ranked third in the NCAA Division III by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Blue Streaks Trip Titans In Season Opener

Erik SolbergJohn Carroll University (Ohio) made the most of its four shots as it edged UW-Oshkosh, 3-2, in a men's soccer match held Friday (Sept. 3) in Wilmington, Ohio. It was the 2004 season opener for both squads, with UW-Oshkosh dropping its inaugural contest for the first time since 1998.

Friday's match involved two teams that appeared in last year's NCAA Division III Championship, with UW-Oshkosh advancing to the semifinals and John Carroll University to the round of 16. UW-Oshkosh entered the game ranked third in the NCAA Division III by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, while John Carroll University was charted 14th.

Alex Bernot gave John Carroll University (1-0) a 1-0 lead as he headed the ball into the net at the 7:42 mark of the first half. Bernot's shot was the first of the match.

After seven consecutive UW-Oshkosh (0-1) shots failed to find their destination, John Carroll University's Kevin Pap got behind the Titans' defense and scored on a breakaway at the 28:52 mark of the first half. The Blue Streaks took their two-goal lead to intermission.

UW-Oshkosh entered the scoring column when Erik Solberg (Fr. • Eden Prairie, Minn.) tallied his first collegiate goal at the 56:41 mark of the second half. Titans Open 21st Season

The UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team begins its 21st season on Friday (Sept. 3) when it plays John Carroll University in Wilmington, Ohio.

Friday's contest matches two teams that appeared in last year's NCAA Division III Championship, with UW-Oshkosh advancing to the semifinals and John Carroll University to the round of 16. UW-Oshkosh, 21-1 a year ago, currently ranks third in the NCAA Division III by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, while John Carroll University, 17-5 last season, lists 14th.

UW-Oshkosh, which plays Wilmington College on its home field on Saturday (Sept. 4), returns 10 lettermen from last year's team that posted the most wins in school history. Among the returnees is Ryan Dineen, a senior goalkeeper who received NCAA Division III All-Central Region first teams honors a year ago after yielding just eight goals in 1,841 minutes of action.
