UW-Oshkosh defender C.J. Lipinski
(Sr. • New Berlin) was one of 33 collegiate soccer players named

less than a month after Lipinski was voted as a first team selection on
the NSCAA's NCAA Division III Scholar All-North Central Region squad.
The 2005 Men's Scholar All-America Team included three players from both
NCAA Division I University of New Mexico and NCAA Division III Whitworth
College (Wash.). The squad also featured two players from NCAA Division
I national champion University of Maryland. Lipinski was one of 15 NCAA

Rain, Lightning Cancels
Titans' Match With UW-Whitewater
Heavy rain cancelled
the men's soccer match between UW-Oshkosh and UW-Whitewater on Saturday
(Nov. 5) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium. The match will not

announced on Sunday (Nov. 6).
UW-Oshkosh concludes its regular season with an 11-6 record. The

Titans Extend Winning Streak Over Pioneers
With UW-Platteville wearing orange
uniforms and UW-Oshkosh dressed in black, Friday's (Oct. 28) men's soccer
match between the Pioneers and the Titans was a perfect start to the Halloween
weekend. Unfortunately for UW-Platteville, UW-Oshkosh was up to its old
tricks as the Titans defeated the Pioneers, 1-0, in Platteville.
UW-Oshkosh (11-6) posted its 17th straight
win over UW-Platteville (9-7-4) as Andy Wuebben (So. Appleton)
scored from 14 yards out at the 41-minute mark of the contest. Wuebben's
goal, the first of his collegiate career, came after a scramble for the
ball in front of the UW-Platteville net.
UW-Platteville had an opportunity to take
a 1-0 lead, but Ben Terpening's direct kick was stopped by UW-Oshkosh
goalkeeper Derek Christiansen (So. Cedarburg) at the 24:35 mark
of the contest. The stop was Christiansen's lone save of the game.
UW-Oshkosh had an excellent chance to go
ahead by two goals, but Kevin Murphy's (Jr. Appleton) shot hit
the post at the 76:49 mark of the contest.
UW-Oshkosh outshot UW-Platteville, 20-5,
and counted a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks. The Titans had six of their
shots stopped by UW-Platteville goalkeeper Scott Brabender.
The Titans have recorded nine shutouts this
season, including four in their last five matches.

1-0, on Monday (Oct. 24) in Sheboygan.
Dave Makovec (Jr. Mukwonago) gave
UW-Oshkosh (10-6) the victory by scoring at the 21:14 mark of the contest.
Makovec's first goal of the season came on an assist by Brent Haga (Fr.
Neenah).
UW-Oshkosh fired 16 shots in the match, with
one scoring and seven of them being stopped by Lakeland College goalkeeper
Chris Lee. The Titans took nine of their shots and three of their four
corner kicks in the first half.
Lakeland College (5-7-4) launched only five
shots in the contest, including one that was blocked by UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper
Derek Christiansen (So. Cedarburg). The Muskies took all five of
their shots and their lone corner kick in the second half.
UW-Oshkosh's shutout was its eighth of the
season, including the seventh by Christiansen. The Titans' latest shutout
gave the Titans their third win against the Muskies in four meetings.
Lakeland College won last year's contest between the two schools by a
2-0 score.
Titans Conquer Vikings
The UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team
allowed just two shots as it defeated Lawrence University, 2-0, on Tuesday
(Oct. 18) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

when Nick Shebesta (Sr. New Berlin) drilled a penalty kick into
the net at the 29:57 mark of contest. The goal was Shebesta's third of
the season.
UW-Oshkosh held its 1-0 advantage until Brent
Haga (Fr. • Neenah) scored with just nine seconds remaining in the
match (89:51). Assisting on Haga's fifth goal of the season were Shaun
Gallagher (So. Mukwonago) and Ryan Stone (Sr. Jackson).
UW-Oshkosh had an opportunity to extend its
lead at the 58:50 mark of the game, but Shebesta's second penalty kick
of the contest was stopped by Lawrence University goalkeeper Matt Wolin.

Titans Net Eagles
Ryan Stone (Sr. Jackson)
and Shaun Gallagher (So. Mukwonago) scored goals in the first 21
minutes of play as the UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team clipped Edgewood College,
2-0, on Monday (Oct. 10) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.
UW-Oshkosh (8-5) came out aggressive and
took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Stone just 8:19 into the match. Twelve minutes

their 10 meetings with the Eagles, also had a 5-1 advantage in corner

Edgewood College goalkeeper Ryan Flohr recorded
seven saves in the match, while UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Derek Christiansen
(So. Cedarburg) tallied two. The shutout was UW-Oshkosh's fifth
of the season, including the fourth by Christiansen.
The highly-physical match featured six yellow
cards and 36 fouls.
Titans Swat Yellowjackets
The number six appeared to be
the common theme for the UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team as six different
players scored a goal, including Shaun Gallagher (So. • Mukwonago)
who got his team-leading sixth goal of the season in a 6-0 victory over
UW-Superior on Sunday (Oct. 2) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.
The Titans also remained undefeated in six all-time meetings with the
Yellowjackets.
"This was decided pretty early as we took a 4-0 lead into halftime,"
said UW-Oshkosh head coach Toby Bares. "I was a little surprised
as they were 7-2 coming in. I was pleased we rebounded after a tough loss
yesterday (Oct. 1) against Wheaton College (Ill.) who was nationally ranked."
Clayton Ramson (Fr. • St. Charles, Ill.) scored its first goal (
• ) within the first 2:00 as UW-Oshkosh (7-4) kept momentum going
throughout the contest. T.J. Ayres (So. • Middleton) added a goal
at the 19:35 mark and Brent Haga (Fr. • Neenah) and Kevin Murphy
(Jr. • Appleton) scored goals 25 seconds apart at the 38:41 and
39:06 mark, respectively.
Ryan Stone (Sr. • Jackson) and Gallagher
finished out the scoring in the second half for the Titans.
"A lot of guys were able to spread out the work load and everyone
got action," added Bares. "We've had a lot of guys banged up
so the bench came through for us and I'm pleased with the results."
The Titans peppered the Yellowjackets with 21 shots on goal compared to
just three for the visitors. Dan Hess (Fr. • Middleton) saved one
shot in 54:07 of action in the goal for UW-Oshkosh while Andrew Johnson
(Fr. • Fond du Lac) stopped two shots in 35:53. UW-Superior goalkeeper
Justin Dittmar had four saves in 90 minutes of action.
Bears Scratch Out Overtime Win
The UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team
dropped its third game of the season, 1-0, in an overtime loss to Washington
University (Mo.) on Saturday (Sept. 24) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan
Stadium.
Marshall Plow of Washington University (5-0-3) ended the contest at the
99:32 mark with a goal assisted by Elie Zenner.
"It was really one of those games that cuts your heart out,"
said UW-Oshkosh head coach Toby Bares. "We certainly played well
enough to win against an outstanding side."
UW-Oshkosh (5-3) actually out shot the Bears 13-9, including 3-1 in overtime,
but the visitors found the back of the net. Ryan Compty (So. • Mukwonago),
Adam Grant (Fr. • Green Bay), Jason Makovec (So. • Mukwonago)
and Nick Shebesta (Sr. • New Berlin) led the Titans with two shots
each. UW-Oshkosh also held a 9-5 advantage in corner kicks.
"When you have two good teams the chance to win falls for one team,"
said Bares "If you had a different day there would be a different
result."
Derek Christiansen (So. • Cedarburg) and the Bears' goalkeeper Matt
Fenn each had four saves in the game playing all 99:32 in the goal. The
loss snapped the Titans' four-match winning streak.

Norbert College men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over UW-Oshkosh on
Thursday (Sept. 8) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.
St. Clair fired only one shot in the match, but it was enough to give
St. Norbert College (2-0) its second straight win over UW-Oshkosh (1-2)

2005 Season Preview
The 2004 men's soccer season ended
unusually early for UW-Oshkosh as the Titans wound up within a goal or
two of advancing to NCAA Division III Championship for the sixth consecutive
year. A very young UW-Oshkosh started slowly, but suffered only one loss
in its last eight matches to end the 2004 season with a 9-5-4 record.
UW-Oshkosh's 2005 squad looks to build on last year's strong finish, but
most importantly needs to respond to the losses of Darren Gallagher and
NCAA Division III all-region selections Ryan Dineen and Ben Olson.
"Every season presents its own set of unique challenges and this
year is no different," said UW-Oshkosh head coach Toby Bares.
Perennial national tournament and championship ambitions are a staple
of the UW-Oshkosh soccer diet, but Bares claims that any success the Titans
will have will come from focusing on a much simpler tangent.
"We will do what we've done since day one here at UW-Oshkosh, said
Bares. "We will work each day to improve, and we will value being
good teammates to and for each other. We can always be content with our
fate if we do these things well."
Bares has once again has lined up a daunting list of soccer powers for
this year's schedule as over half of this year's opponents were either
nationally or regionally ranked last season.
UW-Oshkosh's 2005 side will be led by a good mix of returnees who are
hoping to cash in on fruitful spring training and a valuable experience
gained from its fifth European tour taken last May.
The Titans must be able to regenerate a backfield depleted by graduation.
Sophomore Derek Christiansen (Cedarburg) looks to be first in line to
replace Dineen as the regular goalkeeper.
The entire back line will have new starting faces with versatile seniors
Johnny Malan (Brookfield) and Dan Schmeeckle (Stevens Point) looking to
drop from the midfield. Joining the effort will be sophomores Josh Henneman
(Neenah), Jason Makovec (Mukwonago), Alex Minten (Sturgeon Bay) and Kiel
Zillmer (Mukwonago).
Perhaps the keenest competition for playing time will be in the midfield
as the Titans have a nice group of veterans and newcomers to choose from.
Seniors C.J. Lipinski (New Berlin), Nick Shebesta (New Berlin) and Ryan
Stone (Jackson), junior Kevin Murphy (Appleton) and sophomores Ryan Compty
(Mukwonago), Dave Makovec (Mukwonago) and Andy Wuebben (Appleton) provide
a wealth of experience.
Up top the Titans will sport a youthful look with sophomores T.J. Ayres
(Middleton) and Shaun Gallagher (Mukwonago) returning from their initial
Titan campaigns. |
