Titans To Host Spring Training Matches

The UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team continues its spring training with a couple of contests.

First, the UW-Oshkosh soccer alums will be welcomed back for their annual contest against the varsity followed by a reception. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 14, at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium. Admission is free.

Then on Saturday, April 21, the men's soccer team will host a set of exhibition matches with NCAA Division I foes UW-Milwaukee and UW-Green Bay. Admission is also free to this event. Matches are scheduled for 11 a.m. between UW-Oshkosh and UW-Milwaukee, 12:30 p.m. between UW-Milwaukee and UW-Green Bay and 2 p.m. between UW-Green Bay and UW-Oshkosh.

Domer, Murphy Earn All-Region Accolades

Andy DomerKevin MurphyUW-Oshkosh men's soccer players Andy Domer (Fr. • Brookfield) and Kevin Murphy (Sr. • Appleton) have been selected to the 2006 NCAA Division III All-North Central Region third team by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).

This year's all-region squad consisted of 33 players, with 11 named to each of the three teams. The selections were led by the four representatives of both Dominican University (Ill.) and the University of Chicago (Ill.). Dominican University had four players voted to the first team, while the University of Chicago had three players picked to the second team and one to the third.

Domer, a midfielder, started 15 of the 17 matches that he played in for UW-Oshkosh this past season and totaled four goals and seven assists for 15 points. He led the Titans in assists and points while sharing the top listing in goals.

Domer recorded one goal and two assists in a match twice this past year to lead UW-Oshkosh to wins of 5-0 over Illinois Wesleyan University and 9-0 over Ripon College. He also scored one goal in UW-Oshkosh's 5-1 victory over Olivet College (Mich.) and the Titans' 1-1 tie with Wheaton College (Ill.).

Murphy, a forward, started all 17 matches that he played in for UW-Oshkosh this past season and compiled four goals and six assists for 14 points. He shared the team lead in goals while ranking second on the squad in both assists and points.

Murphy registered a pair of game-winning goals this past year as he scored during UW-Oshkosh's 3-0 victory over Lakeland College and the Titans' 5-0 triumph over Illinois Wesleyan University. He also had three assists in the Titans' 5-1 win over Olivet College.

Last year, Murphy started six of the 11 matches that he played in and counted five goals and one assist for 11 points. He scored two goals in UW-Oshkosh's 7-0 victory over the Milwaukee School of Engineering.

In 2004, Murphy started 16 of the 19 contests that he played in and totaled six goals and four assists for 16 points. He tallied one goal and one assist in the Titans' 6-0 win over UW-Platteville.

Murphy started 39 of the 46 matches that he played in during his three-year UW-Oshkosh career. His career totals included 15 goals, 11 assists and 41 points.

UW-Oshkosh had five players named to the 2006 All-Wisconsin NCAA Division III squad, including Domer and Murphy as first team honorees. Picked to the second team were goalkeeper Derek Christiansen (Jr. • Cedarburg) and defenders Andy Kohel (Fr. • Racine) and Alex Minten (Jr. • Sturgeon Bay).

UW-Oshkosh extended its string of consecutive winning seasons to 22 with its 8-6-4 record during the 2006 campaign.

Titans, Warhawks Settle For Season-Ending Tie

Derek ChristiansenUW-Oshkosh ended its 23rd men’s soccer season in irregular fashion by battling to a scoreless double overtime tie with UW-Whitewater on Saturday (Nov. 4) in Whitewater.

UW-Oshkosh, which played to just its second scoreless tie since the 15th match of the 2004 season, discharged 11 shots at the UW-Whitewater goal and totaled six corner kicks. The Titans took five shots in the first half, three in the second half, two in the first overtime period and one in the second overtime period.

Brian Miller (Fr. • Chippewa Falls) led UW-Oshkosh with three shots, while Andy Domer (Fr. • Brookfield) and Kevin Murphy (Sr. • Appleton) had two each.

UW-Whitewater (11-5-2) sailed 13 shots at the UW-Oshkosh goal and counted three corner kicks. The Warhawks launched eight shots in the first half, three in the second half and two in the first overtime period.

Jason Blocker, Jeff Derer and Matthew Gehn paced UW-Whitewater with three shots each.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Derek Christiansen (Jr. • Cedarburg) stopped five shots to earn his fourth shutout of the season, while UW-Whitewater goalkeeper E.J. Sesselmann blocked four shots to tally his fifth shutout of the year.

Saturday’s match was the 23rd between the two teams. UW-Oshkosh has gone 10-2-1 in its last 13 contests against UW-Whitewater to lead the all-time series by a 14-7-2 count.

UW-Oshkosh extended its string of consecutive winning seasons to 22 with its 8-6-4 record during the 2006 campaign. The Titans' steak of consecutive winning seasons is the ninth-longest in NCAA Division III history.

Titans Clinch Another Winning Season

Paul BeachThe UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team extended its string of consecutive winning seasons to 22 following its 2-1 victory over UW-Platteville on Sunday (Oct. 29) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

UW-Oshkosh (8-6-3) scored both of its goals in the first half, including Paul Beach's (Fr. • Prairie du Sac) tally just 2:16 into play. Clayton Ransom (So. • St. Charles, Ill.) and Kevin Murphy (Sr. • Appleton) earned assists on Beach's third goal of the year.

The Titans extended their lead to 2-0 when Ryan Compty (Jr. • Mukwonago) headed in his second goal of the season at the 35:37 mark of the match. Assisting on Compty's goal were Shaun Gallagher (Jr. • Mukwonago) and Andy Domer (Fr. • Brookfield).

UW-Platteville (14-5) sliced its deficit in half when Bryan Mark scored on an assisted goal by Ben Terpening at the 61:47 mark of the game.

Both teams took nine shots and launched one corner kick. Compty led the Titans with three shots, while Terpening paced the Pioneers with three.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Derek Christiansen (Jr. • Cedarburg) recorded his 17th collegiate victory by saving five UW-Platteville shots and allowing one goal. UW-Platteville goalkeeper Steve Wise halted five UW-Oshkosh shots and yielded both goals.

UW-Oshkosh has won its last 18 matches against UW-Platteville to lead the all-time series by a 20-2 count. The Titans have surrendered just two goals to the Pioneers in their last nine meetings.

Titans Thump Red Hawks

Andy WuebbenAndy Wuebben (Jr. • Appleton) scored twice, while Andy Domer (Fr. • Brookfield) and Shaun Gallagher (Jr. • Mukwonago) both scored once and tallied a pair of assists as the UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team trounced Ripon College, 9-0, on Wednesday (Oct. 25) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

UW-Oshkosh (7-6-3) recorded six of its goals in the second half, including its fifth, sixth and seventh goals within a span of three minutes. The Titans also scored their eighth and ninth goals within a span of 59 seconds. UW-Oshkosh's scoring output was its best since a 9-0 victory over Northland College on Sept. 30, 2001.

UW-Oshkosh took a 1-0 lead just 152 seconds into the contest as Domer scored his fourth goal of the season on assists by Gallagher and Thomas Wolf (Fr. • Whitefish Bay). The Titans went to intermission leading 3-0 as Brian Miller (Fr. • Chippewa Falls) and Alex Lanser (Fr. • Port Washington) both scored their third goal of the season at the 30:30 and 39:00 marks of the match, respectively. Domer and Ryan Compty (Jr. • Mukwonago) assisted on Miller's goal, while Domer assisted on Lanser's goal.

UW-Oshkosh's parade of goals continued in the second half as it scored on six of its 20 shots. The Titans took a 4-0 advantage when Wuebben scored his first goal of the season on assists by Will Howell (Fr. • Waunakee) and Adam Grant (So. • Green Bay) at the 52:17 mark of the game.

UW-Oshkosh then scored three times within a span of three minutes as Gallagher, Paul Beach (Fr. • Prairie du Sac) and Clayton Ransom (So. • St. Charles, Ill.) registered goals at the 75:10, 77:13 and 78:03 marks of the contest, respectively. It was the third goal of the season for all three players. Gallagher and Ransom had assists on Beach's goal, while Jason Fisher (So. • Appleton) and Mason Eddy (Fr. • Oneida) had assists on Ransom's goal.

The Titans scored their eighth and ninth goals within a span of 59 seconds. UW-Oshkosh went ahead 8-0 as Wuebben scored his second goal of the season on passes from Fisher and Eddy at the 87:26 mark of the match. The Titans took a 9-0 advantage when Andrew Avergonzado (Fr. • Appleton) scored his first collegiate goal on a serve from Eddy at the 88:25 mark of the game.

UW-Oshkosh out-shot Ripon College (1-13), 31-7, and posted a 9-2 advantage over the Red Hawks in corner kicks.

UW-Oshkosh divided its goalkeeping duties equally as Derek Christiansen (Jr. • Cedarburg) played the first half and Dan Hess (So. • Middleton) the second. Christiansen totaled one save and Hess three to help the Titans increase their lead in the all-time series with the Red Hawks to 21-0-2.

Ripon College goalkeeper Dave Freisleben blocked six shots and allowed all nine UW-Oshkosh goals. The Red Hawks also had a defender earn a save.

UW-Oshkosh Wins Battle Of The Titans

Andy DomerIn a men’s soccer match involving two schools nicknamed the Titans, it was UW-Oshkosh that came away with a 5-0 victory over Illinois Wesleyan University on Saturday (Oct. 21) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

UW-Oshkosh had five different players score goals and seven different players tally assists as it posted its first victory in six matches (1-3-2 record) to snap the longest winless streak in school history.

UW-Oshkosh (6-6-3) took a 2-0 lead to intermission on goals by Kevin Murphy (Sr. • Appleton) and Brian Miller (Fr. • Chippewa Falls) at the 17:47 and 43:31 marks of the match, respectively. Murphy's fourth goal of the season was assisted by Alex Minten (Jr. • Sturgeon Bay), while Miller's second goal of the year was assisted by Andy Domer (Fr. • Brookfield) and Will Howell (Fr. • Waunakee).

The Titans extended their advantage to 3-0 when Domer scored his third goal of the season on assists by Shaun Gallagher (Jr. • Mukwonago) and Alex Lanser (Fr. • Port Washington) at the 52:15 mark of the contest. UW-Oshkosh's lead increased to 4-0 when Lanser scored his second goal of the year on assists by Domer and Gallagher at the 61:01 mark of the game.

UW-Oshkosh closed its scoring on Jason Fisher's (So. • Appleton) second goal of the season at the 86:51 mark of the match. Fisher's goal was assisted by Paul Beach (Fr. • Prairie du Sac) and Thomas Wolf (Fr. • Whitefish Bay).

UW-Oshkosh totaled 15 shots, including four by Gallagher and two by Domer. Illinois Wesleyan University (6-8-1) compiled nine shots, including two each by Joshua Lacey, Jason Lopez, Paulo Michelini and Chris Miller. UW-Oshkosh, unbeaten in three matches with Illinois Wesleyan University, had a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.

UW-Oshkosh had Derek Christiansen (Jr. • Cedarburg) and Dan Hess (So. • Middleton) guard its goal. Christiansen recorded one save in 75:15 of playing time, while Hess went without a save in 14:45 of activity. UW-Oshkosh also had a defender register a save.

Illinois Wesleyan University goalkeeper Win Fisher blocked four shots and allowed all five of UW-Oshkosh's goals.

Falcons Splash Past Titans

Clayton RansomThe UW-Oshkosh men’s soccer team was held scoreless for a third straight match as it dropped a 2-0 decision to Concordia University on Wednesday (Oct. 18) at a rain-soaked J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

Concordia University (9-4-4) scored both of its goals in the second half to extend its winning streak to five contests.

The Falcons took a 1-0 lead when Trevor Hess scored on an assisted goal by Jake Thomas at the 57:56 mark of the match. Concordia University extended its advantage to 2-0 when Mike Bruckner scored his team-leading 11th goal of the season on a pass from Hess at the 75:10 mark of the game.

Concordia University totaled 17 shots, including eight by Brian Nord and two by both Hess and Travis Moulton. UW-Oshkosh (5-6-3) compiled 11 shots, including three by both Kevin Murphy (Sr. • Appleton) and Clayton Ransom (So. • St. Charles, Ill.). The Falcons owned a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Derek Christiansen (Jr. • Cedarburg) recorded four saves and allowed both Concordia University goals. Concordia University goalkeeper Thomas Anderson tallied three saves to earn the shutout victory. The Falcons also had a defender stop a shot taken by the Titans.

Wednesday’s match was the 11th between the two schools, with the Falcons cutting their deficit in the all-time series with the Titans to 5-3-3.

Venue For Titans' Match Against Concordia University Changed

Due to unplayable field conditions in Mequon, the site for Wednesday's (Oct. 18) men's soccer match between UW-Oshkosh and Concordia University has been switched to the Titans' home facility of J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium. The contest begins at 3:15 p.m.

UW-Oshkosh enters the match with a 5-5-3 record after dropping a 2-0 decision to Dominican University (Ill.) on Saturday (Oct. 14).

Concordia University owns an 8-4-4 record after posting a 7-0 win over Marian College on Saturday. The Falcons have won their last three matches.

Ninth-Ranked Stars Out-Shine Titans

Kevin MurphyThe UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team concluded a difficult three-match schedule by dropping a 2-0 decision to nationally-ranked Dominican University (Ill.) on Saturday (Oct. 14) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

Dominican University (14-1), ranked ninth in the NCAA Division III by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, took a quick 1-0 lead when Plamen Pamukov scored on an assisted goal by Matt Kochanowski just 16 seconds into the match.

Pamukov extended the Stars' advantage to 2-0 when he scored on an assisted goal by Juan Saldana at the 24:19 mark of the contest.

Dominican University out-shot UW-Oshkosh (5-5-3), 13-2, and posted a 2-0 advantage in corner kicks. Kochanowski took five shots for the Stars, while Arnes Rodriguez fired three. Adam Grant (So. • Green Bay) and Kevin Murphy (Sr. • Appleton) each took one shot for the Titans.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Derek Christiansen (Jr. • Cedarburg) allowed two Dominican University shots to score while blocking five others. Dominican University goalkeeper Piotr Sliwa earned the shutout after stopping one UW-Oshkosh shot.

Dominican University, which has yielded only nine goals this season, cut its deficit in the all-time series with UW-Oshkosh to 3-2-1.

UW-Oshkosh's opponents during the past three matches have combined to tally a 35-4-5 record this season. Prior to its match with Dominican University, the Titans dropped a 2-1 decision to North Park University (Ill.) on Oct. 1 and played to a scoreless double overtime tie with Aurora University (Ill.) on Oct. 7. North Park University currently owns a 12-1-2 record, while Aurora University is 9-2-3.

Titans, Spartans Play To Scoreless Tie

Derek ChristiansenUnable to resolve their differences, the Aurora University (Ill.) and UW-Oshkosh men's soccer teams settled for a scoreless double overtime tie on Saturday (Oct. 7) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

UW-Oshkosh (5-4-3), which played to its first scoreless tie since the 15th match of the 2004 season, fired 16 shots at the Aurora University goal and totaled six corner kicks. Shaun Gallagher (Jr. • Mukwonago) and Clayton Ransom (So. • St. Charles, Ill.) both took four shots to lead the Titans, while Will Howell (Fr. • Waunakee) dispatched three.

Aurora University (8-1-3) launched 15 shots at the UW-Oshkosh goal and compiled five corner kicks. Andrew Taylor led the Spartans with four shots, while Brad Johns tallied three.

Aurora University had a great opportunity to win the match in the opening minutes of the first overtime session, but James Spann's shot at an empty UW-Oshkosh goal sailed left. Spann's shot was one of only three taken by the two teams in the two overtime periods.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Derek Christiansen (Jr. • Cedarburg) stopped seven shots en route to his third shutout of the season. The Titans also had a defender record a save.

Aurora University goalkeeper Anthony Collins blocked six shots before leaving the contest at the end of the second half due to an injury. Nick Kimmer guarded the Spartans' goal for the two overtime periods and stopped one shot.

The two teams were playing for the 12th time, but the first since the 2001 season. The Titans lead the all-time series by an 8-1-3 count.

Vikings End Titans' Unbeaten Streak

Paul BeachThe UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team had its seven-match unbeaten streak snapped when North Park University (Ill.) topped the Titans, 2-1, on Sunday (Oct. 1) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

Since losing 2-1 in overtime to Fontbonne University (Mo.) on Sept. 9, UW-Oshkosh had posted a 5-0-2 record.

UW-Oshkosh (5-4-2) and North Park University (9-1-1) were scoreless until the Vikings' Kevin Gathje scored on an assisted goal by Nathan Ryan at the 26:21 mark of the match.

North Park University extended its lead to 2-0 when Jordan Gyuricza scored on an assisted goal by Isaac Lee at the 66:54 mark of the game.

UW-Oshkosh sliced its deficit to 2-1 when it scored on an own goal off a corner kick at the 84:46 mark of the match.

Both teams took eight shots in the contest. Paul Beach (Fr. • Prairie du Sac) led the Titans with three shots, while five other players totaled one. Gathje, Gyuricza and Lee paced the Vikings with two shots each. UW-Oshkosh had a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Derek Christiansen (Jr. • Cedarburg) allowed two goals and tallied two saves, while North Park University goalkeeper Austin Person yielded one goal and recorded three saves.

North Park University's victory was its first in seven meetings with UW-Oshkosh. The Titans lead the all-time series by a 5-1-1 count.

Titans, Thunder Battle To Tie

Andy DomerThe UW-Oshkosh men’s soccer team played to its second tie of the season with a 1-1 double overtime draw against Wheaton College (Ill.) on Friday (Sept. 29) in Wheaton, Ill.

Wheaton College (5-4-2) took an early 1-0 lead when Strider Elass scored from in front of the net off a pass from Ari Hyde just 4:46 into play.

The Thunder held the lead until the Titans scored midway through the second half. UW-Oshkosh (5-3-2) tied the contest when Andy Domer (Fr. • Brookfield) utilized a well-paced Paul Beach (Fr. • Prairie du Sac) assist and scored at the 72:06 mark of the match. The goal was Domer’s second of the season.

Each team took three shots in the extended play. Wheaton College’s best opportunity to break the deadlock came in the second overtime when Cory Smith took two shots from in front of the UW-Oshkosh goal, including one that grazed off the crossbar in the 106th minute of action.

UW-Oshkosh out-shot Wheaton College, 23-12, including 12-2 in the second half. Wheaton College, which owns a 10-5-2 record against UW-Oshkosh, compiled a 9-6 advantage in corner kicks.

In 110 minutes of action, Wheaton College goalkeeper Ryan Souders saved nine shots while UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Derek Christiansen (Jr. • Cedarburg) blocked five. The Thunder also had a defender stop a shot taken by the Titans.

Friday’s match was the 758th coached by Wheaton College's Joe Bean and the 415th coached by UW-Oshkosh's Toby Bares.

Bares, UW-Oshkosh Enjoy Milestone Victory

Toby BaresToby Bares, the only head coach in the 23-year history of the UW-Oshkosh men's soccer program, tallied his 300th coaching victory during the Titans' 2-0 win over St. Olaf College (Minn.) on Sunday (Sept. 24) in Northfield, Minn.

Bares, who raised his coaching record to 300-84-30, becomes the 27th NCAA Division III head coach to reach the 300-victory mark. He has led UW-Oshkosh to a winning record the past 21 seasons, including marks of 15-1-2 in 1988, 18-0-3 in 1994, 17-2-1 in 1999, 20-2 in 2000 and 21-1 in 2003.

In addition to the 300 victories, Bares has guided UW-Oshkosh to 10 NCAA Division III postseason appearances. The Titans advanced to the Final Four in 1994, 2000 and 2003.

Bares' latest coaching victory featured unassisted goals from Will Howell (Fr. • Waunakee) and Kevin Murphy (Sr. • Appleton).

The match was scoreless until Howell scored off a corner kick at the 39:05 mark of the contest. The goal was Howell's second of the season.

Murphy added an insurance goal for the Titans (5-3-1) at the 74:14 mark of the match. Murphy's third goal of the year came after he collected the soccer ball off a missed UW-Oshkosh shot and drilled it into the net.

UW-Oshkosh, which is 5-0-1 in its last six contests, out-shot St. Olaf College (2-4-1), 16-4. The Titans took all seven of the game's corner kicks.

The goalkeepers combined for six saves in the match as St. Olaf College's Kevin Friede counted five and UW-Oshkosh's Derek Christiansen (Jr. • Cedarburg) one.

Sunday's victory gives UW-Oshkosh an 8-2-1 advantage in the all-time series with St. Olaf College.

Titans Exterminate Yellowjackets

Ryan ComptyUW-Oshkosh men’s soccer head coach Toby Bares registered his 299th coaching victory following the Titans’ 1-0 win over UW-Superior on Saturday (Sept. 23) in Superior.

Bares, who has guided UW-Oshkosh to a 299-84-30 record the past 23 seasons, can pick up his 300th coaching victory when Titans visit St. Olaf College (Minn.) on Sunday (Sept. 24).

UW-Oshkosh’s lone goal against UW-Superior (4-2-1) came in the 40th minute of play when Ryan Compty (Jr. • Mukwonago) took a pass from Jeff Pernitz (So. • Cross Plains) and scored. The goal was Compty’s first of the season.

UW-Oshkosh (4-3-1), which has allowed just two goals in posting a 4-0-1 record in its last five matches, fired 12 shots at the UW-Superior goal and totaled seven corner kicks. Andy Wuebben (Jr. • Appleton) led the Titans with three shots.

UW-Superior, which is winless in seven matches against the Titans, launched four shots at the UW-Oshkosh goal and compiled two corner kicks. Four players took one shot each for the Yellowjackets.

UW-Oshkosh goalkeeper Dan Hess (So. • Middleton) stopped three shots to earn his first collegiate shutout. UW-Superior goalkeeper Justin Dittmer halted nine shots while allowing the Titans’ lone goal.

Titans, Green Knights Unable To Settle Dispute

Clayton RansomAn argument between two neighboring rivals ended in an impasse as the UW-Oshkosh and St. Norbert College men's soccer teams played to a 1-1 double overtime tie on Wednesday (Sept. 20) in De Pere.

After a quiet first half, UW-Oshkosh (3-3-1) grabbed a 1-0 lead when Clayton Ransom (St. Charles, Ill.) took a serve from Kevin Murphy (Sr. • Appleton) and scored at the 50:37 mark of the contest. The goal was Ransom's first of the year.

UW-Oshkosh held its one-goal advantage until St. Norbert College's Greg Schmidt scored at the 70:00 mark of the match. Schmidt's inaugural goal of the season was assisted by Andrew Winters and Ben Vanden Avond.

Neither team scored in overtime as they combined to take only three shots. St. Norbert College (4-0-1) had a golden opportunity to win the match in the first extra session, but Pat Clancy's shot from eight yards out sailed over the goal.

UW-Oshkosh took 14 shots in the match, including eight in the first half. The Titans had three corner kicks, with two of them coming in the opening period.

St. Norbert College, which owns a 28-1-1 record in its last 30 home matches, fired four of its nine shots in the second half. The Green Knights also took three of their four corner kicks in the second frame.

The goalkeepers, UW-Oshkosh's Derek Christiansen (Jr. • Cedarburg) and St. Norbert College's Mike Rietveld, both stopped four shots while playing the entire 110 minutes of the contest. The Green Knights also had a team save.

Marred by 39 fouls and four cautions, Wednesday's match was the first tie between the two teams in 24 meetings. The Titans own an 18-5-1 advantage in the all-time series.

Titans Post 19th Straight Win Over Vikings

Jason FisherThe lopsided domination of the UW-Oshkosh men's soccer team over Lawrence University continued as the Titans defeated the Vikings, 3-0, on Saturday (Sept. 16) in Appleton.

UW-Oshkosh (3-3) scored all three of its goals in the second half to record its 19th consecutive victory over Lawrence University (3-2). The Titans lead the Vikings in the all-time series by a 20-3 tally.

Will Howell (Fr. • Waunakee) gave UW-Oshkosh a 3-0 lead when scored off assists from Domer and Ryan Compty (Jr. • Mukwonago) at the 70:51 mark of the game. It was the first collegiate goal for Howell.

UW-Oshkosh out-shot Lawrence University, 21-5, and posted a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.

The Titans had two players see time guarding the goal as Derek Christiansen (Jr. • Cedarburg) played 80:20 and Dan Hess (So. • Middleton) 9:40. Both UW-Oshkosh goalkeepers made one save in the match.

Ryan Hunter allowed three goals and halted six shots while playing all 90 minutes as the Vikings' goalkeeper.

Titans Reel In Muskies

UW-Oshkosh's Kevin Murphy (Sr. • Appleton) broke the stalemate with an unassisted goal at the 65:15 mark of the contest. Shaun Gallagher (Jr. • Mukwonago) scored the Titans' second goal at the 72:46 mark of the game. Murphy owned the assist on Gallagher's goal.

UW-Oshkosh (2-3) closed its scoring on Alex Minten's (Jr. • Sturgeon Bay) 20-yard free kick at the 80:56 mark of the match. It was the first collegiate goal for Minten.

UW-Oshkosh fired 18 shots in the match, compared to just two for Lakeland College (0-4). The Titans posted a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks as it improved its record against the Muskies to 4-1.

Goalkeeper Derek Christiansen (Jr. • Cedarburg) halted a pair of shots to register the shutout for the Titans.

Lakeland College goalkeeper Ryan Condon made 11 saves and allowed all three UW-Oshkosh goals.

Paul Beach (Fr. • Prairie du Sac) gave UW-Oshkosh a 1-0 lead over its first-time opponent by scoring on passes from Ryan Compty (Jr. • Mukwonago) and Kevin Murphy (Sr. • Appleton) just 13:01 into play.

Olivet College (0-5) tied the score at 1-1 on Kevin Hagan's penalty kick goal at the 32:18 mark of the contest.

UW-Oshkosh (1-3) went to intermission leading 2-1 as Alex Lanser (Fr. • Port Washington) took a pass from Will Howell (Fr. • Waunakee) and scored at the 40:35 mark of the match.

In the second half, UW-Oshkosh received goals from Adam Grant (So. • Green Bay), Andy Domer (Fr. • Brookfield) and Brian Miller (Fr. • Chippewa Falls). Murphy had two assists in the second period, while Dan Hess (So. • Middleton), Brandon Joachim (So. • Howard) and Clayton Ransom (So. • St. Charles, Ill.) had one each.

UW-Oshkosh fired 18 shots in the contest, including 10 in the second half. A total of 12 different players took shots for the Titans. Olivet College took four shots in the match, with three coming in the first period.

The Titans had a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.

UW-Oshkosh split its goalkeeping duties between Hess and Derek Christiansen (Jr. • Cedarburg). Christiansen yielded one goal and recorded one save in 73:55 of work, while Hess stopped two shots in 16:05 of activity.

Olivet College goalkeeper Michael Manning played the entire game and counted five saves.

St. Norbert College posted a 2-1 overtime win over Fontbonne University (Mo.) on Sunday to capture the Valley Cup Invitational title.

Griffins Ruin Titans' Home Debut

Kevin MurphyDane Arand scored the second of his two goals in overtime as the Fontbonne University (Mo.) men's soccer team edged UW-Oshkosh, 2-1, in an opening round contest of the Valley Cup Invitational held Saturday (Sept. 9) at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

Arand spoiled the Titans' 2006 home opener by recording his match-winning shot at the 95:19 mark of the contest. Arand's goal came less than three minutes after UW-Oshkosh's Kevin Murphy (Sr. • Appleton) sailed a potential winning shot just over the crossbar from 15 yards out.

UW-Oshkosh (0-3) took a 1-0 lead when Murphy took passes from Kiel Zillmer (Jr. • Mukwonago) and Adam Grant (So. • Green Bay) and scored at the 63:33 mark of the game.

Fontbonne University, a first-time opponent of UW-Oshkosh, tied the contest at 1-1 on Arand's goal at the 74:05 mark of the match.

UW-Oshkosh fired 19 shots in the contest, including four by Murphy. The Griffins (1-3) launched 10 shots, including five by Kyle Dailey. Dailey also owned the assist on Arand's winning goal.

The Titans had a 10-4 advantage in corner kicks, including 6-1 in the final 50:19 of play.

Titans Unable To Trap Gators

Derek ChristiansenBob Del Greco provided the margin of victory as the Allegheny College (Pa.) men's soccer team scratched out a 1-0 victory over UW-Oshkosh in a second round contest of the Fred Myers Invitational held Saturday (Sept. 2) in Delaware, Ohio.

The Gators scored their lone goal when Del Greco took the rebound off Nathaniel Yates' missed shot and buried it into the back of the net at the 23:52 mark of the match.

Allegheny College (2-0) kept UW-Oshkosh scoreless as goalkeeper Ryan Larkin saved seven shots, including three by the Titans' Alex Lanser (Fr. • Port Washington).

Allegheny College outshot UW-Oshkosh, 16-11, including 8-2 in the first half. The Titans led their first-time opponent in corner kicks by a 9-2 count.

Goalkeeper Derek Christiansen (Jr. • Cedarburg) had three saves for a UW-Oshkosh squad that begins a season 0-2 for the first time since 1984.

UW-Oshkosh, which opened the Fred Myers Invitational with a 2-0 loss to nationally-ranked Ohio Wesleyan University on Friday (Sept. 1), had Christiansen and Alex Minten (Jr. • Sturgeon Bay) named to the 12-player all-tournament team.

Titans Drop Season Opener To Seventh-Ranked Bishops

Will HowellCraig Neal scored both goals to lead the Ohio Wesleyan University men’s soccer team to a 2-0 victory over UW-Oshkosh in an opening round contest of the Fred Myers Invitational held Friday (Sept. 1) in Delaware, Ohio. The match marked the 2006 debut for both squads.

UW-Oshkosh (0-1) had the first legitimate scoring chance of the game, but Will Howell’s (Fr. • Waunakee) header in the opening minutes of play was stopped near the left post by Ohio Wesleyan University goalkeeper Jamison Dague.

The scoreless debate lasted until Neal gave the Bishops (1-0) a 1-0 lead at the 16:24 mark of the match. Neal headed the ball into the goal off a serve from Brandon Bianco.

UW-Oshkosh had a good attempt at tying the score midway through the first half, but David Frey’s (Fr. • Stoughton) shot from outside the box was halted by Dague.

Ohio University University, ranked seventh in the NCAA Division III by the National Soccer Coaches Association, took a 2-0 lead when Neal slipped an unassisted shot into the right side of the goal at the 38:55 mark of the game.

The Bishops had a golden opportunity for a third goal, but Tim Kelly's second-half shot hit the crossbar.

Ohio Wesleyan University, a first-time opponent of UW-Oshkosh, posted a 15-13 advantage in shots. Both teams had six corner kicks.

Dague stopped seven shots for the Bishops, while goalkeeper Derek Christansen (Jr. • Cedarburg) denied four shots for the Titans.
