Hansman, Iimori All-Americans
At NCAA Championship

All-America performances in diving
by Chris Hansman (Jr. Neenah) and in swimming by Yusuke Iimori
(Fr. Saga, Japan) helped UW-Oshkosh finish 22nd at the NCAA
Division III Men's Swimming and Diving Championship held Thursday-Saturday
(March 20-22) in Atlanta, Ga.
Kenyon College (Ohio) scored
a meet-record 756.5 points to win its 24th straight NCAA Division
III title, while Johns Hopkins University (Md.) counted 384.5 to finish
as the runner-up for the second consecutive season.
The top-five scoring teams
were completed by third-place Emory University (Ga.) with 292 points,
fourth-place Carnegie-Mellon University (Pa.) with 272 and fifth-place
Denison University (Ohio) with 258. UW-Oshkosh scored 34 points to
share 22nd place with Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (Ind.).
In all, 47 teams tallied points at this year's championship.
Hansman gained All-America
status in a pair of diving events as he finished seventh off the three
meter board with a score of 424.50 and eighth off the one meter board
with a count of 405.50. Anthony Holt of Kalamazoo College (Mich.)
won both diving events, posting first-place scores of 501.95 in the
three meter and 500.90 in the one. Last year, Hansman received All-America
mention in the three meter diving by finishing fifth with a score
of 424.95.
Iimori registered All-America
accolades in his NCAA Division III Championship debut by finishing
eighth in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 57.43. Matthew
Smith of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology won the event with a
time of 56.20, while Alex Anderson of UW-Stevens Point finished second
in 56.81.
Hansman and Iimori were
the only UW-Oshkosh performers at the 2003 NCAA Division III Championship.
Hansman, Iimori Victors At
WIAC Championship

Chris Hansman (Jr. Neenah)
claimed two event titles and Yusuke Iimori (Fr. Saga,
Japan) one as the UW-Oshkosh men's swimming and diving team
finished fifth at the WIAC Championship held Thursday-Saturday
(Feb. 20-22) in Stevens Point.
UW-Stevens Point scored 967 points
to capture its fourth straight league championship, while
UW-La Crosse finished second with 856 points. The remaining
four teams were nearly 500 points behind the leaders as third-place
UW-Eau Claire counted 376 points, fourth-place UW-Whitewater
334, fifth-place UW-Oshkosh 333 and sixth-place UW-River Falls
318.
Hansman was named the "Outstanding
Diver of the WIAC Championship" after successfully defending
his titles in both the one meter and three meter diving events.
He won the one meter diving with a score of 464.75, while
Scott Heatwole of UW-Eau Claire finished second with a mark
of 412.15. Off the three meter board, Hansman finished first
with a score of 480.55, while Heatwole finished second with
a tally of 407.65. Last year, Hansman won the one meter diving
with a score of 448.60 and the three meter diving with a figure
of 503.90.
Iimori set the only championship
record as he won the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of
56.70. Alex Anderson of UW-Stevens Point finished second with
a time of 57.26.
UW-Oshkosh was unable to finish
second or fourth in any of the events, but did place third
twice behind the efforts of its 200 yard medley and 400 yard
medley relay teams. Swimming on the Titans' 200 yard medley
relay team that posted a time of 1:38.59 were Aaron Burg (Fr.
New London), Brett Dill (Sr. Janesville), Iimori
and Alex Zinoviev (Fr. Komsomolsk-Na-Amure, Russia).
UW-Stevens Point won the race with a time of 1:33.87. In the
400 yard medley relay, UW-Oshkosh's quartet of Burg, Dill,
Iimori and Zinoviev registered a time of 3:39.01. UW-Stevens
Point took first in that race with a time of 3:29.23.
Other award winners at the 2003
championship were Shane Ryan of UW-La Crosse as the "Outstanding
Swimmer of the WIAC Championship" and Al Boelk of UW-Stevens
Point as the WIAC Coach of the Year. |
Titans Record Historic Win
Over Blugolds
It could be decades, if ever,
since the UW-Oshkosh men's swimming and diving team defeated perennial
WIAC power UW-Eau Claire in a dual meet. But, Saturday (Feb. 8) in
Eau Claire the Titans accomplished the noteworthy feat when they edged
the host Blugolds, 144-140.
Yusuke Iimori (Saga, Japan)
and Alex Zinoviev (Fr. Komsomolsk-Na-Amure, Russia) led UW-Oshkosh
to the dual victory by winning two events each.
Iimori finished first in
the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke events with times of 57.37 and 2:10.00,
respectively, while Zinoviev took the top spot in the 100 yard butterfly
with a time of 56.02 and the 400 yard individual medley with a performance
of 4:00.00. Zinoviev also finished second in the 200 yard butterfly
with a time of 2:11.34.
Other event winners for
UW-Oshkosh were Aaron Burg (Fr. New London) in the 200 yard
freestyle with a time of 1:53.64 and Brett Dill (Sr. Janesville)
in the 200 yard backstroke with a showing of 2:13.10. The Titans'
200 yard medley relay team of Burg, Dill, Iimori and Justin Lease
(Jr. Chilton) also finished first with a time of 1:42.25.
In addition to Zinoviev,
the Titans also received second-place performances of 50.79 in the
100 yard freestyle and 5:33.12 in the 500 yard freestyle from Burg,
23.84 in the 50 yard freestyle from Dill, 1:05.73 in the 100 yard
backstroke and 2:21.27 in the 200 yard backstroke from Eric Enerson
(Jr. Wisconsin Rapids), 280.85 in the three meter diving from
Chris Hansman (Jr. Neenah) and 1:57.67 in the 200 yard freestyle
from Lease. UW-Oshkosh's 200 yard freestyle relay team added a second-place
finish with a time of 1:36.49.
Hansman Wins Twice At UW-Oshkosh
Diving Invite
One day after winning both events
in a home dual meet against UW-La Crosse, UW-Oshkosh's Chris Hansman
(Jr. Neenah) claimed the one and three-meter diving titles
at the UW-Oshkosh Diving Invitational held Sunday (Jan. 19) in Albee
Hall.
Hansman, UW-Oshkosh's lone
competitor, outscored seven other contestants on Sunday in the one
meter diving and six in the three.
Hansman registered a score
of 438.75 to win the one meter title, finishing ahead of UW-Eau Claire's
Dan VonFeldt who placed second with a mark of 369.45. Scott Heatwole
of UW-Eau Claire finished third with a score of 367.90, while UW-Eau
Claire's Chad Pettis and Jack Riley finished fourth and fifth with
marks of 352.30 and 316.55, respectively.
In the three meter diving,
the order of finish for the top five performers duplicated that of
the one meter diving. UW-Oshkosh's Hansman finished first with a score
of 411.75, while UW-Eau Claire's VonFeldt finished second at 381.80,
UW-Eau Claire's Heatwole third at 356.80, UW-Stevens Point's Pettis
fourth at 337.35 and UW-Stevens Point's Riley fifth at 288.70.
Eagles Sink Titans

Recording 19 of a possible 26
first or second-place finishes, the UW-La Crosse men's swimming and
diving team defeated UW-Oshkosh, 151-70, on Saturday (Jan. 18) in
Albee Hall. The competition was the first for the Titans since they
hosted the UW-Oshkosh Invitational on December 6-7.
UW-La Crosse, a second-place
finisher in the WIAC a year ago, dominated its contest with UW-Oshkosh
by winning 10 of the 13 events.
Chris Hansman (Jr.
Neenah) had two of UW-Oshkosh's three victories as he won the one
meter and three meter diving events. Yusuke Iimori (Saga, Japan) also
was victorious for the Titans, winning the 100 yard breaststroke with
a time of 57.57.
UW-Oshkosh had four second-place
finishes in the meet as Iimori was runner-up in the 50 yard freestyle
with a time of 22.78 and Brett Dill (Sr. Janesville) runner-up
in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 56.92. The Titans also had
a pair of relay teams finish second, the 200 yard medley and the 200
yard freestyle.
Titans Finish Second In Own
Invite

Winning eight of the 20 events,
the UW-Oshkosh men's swimming and diving team finished second in its
own four-team invitational held Friday and Saturday (Dec. 6-7) in
Albee Hall.
UW-Whitewater took first
place in the team standings with 530 points, while UW-Oshkosh finished
second with 498, UW-Eau Claire third with 379 and UW-River Falls fourth
with 320.
Chris Hansman (Jr.
Neenah) and Yusuke Iimori (Saga, Japan) each won two events to lead
the Titans, while Alex Zinoviev (Fr. Komsomolsk-Na-Amure, Russia)
finished first once and Casey Carlsen (Jr. Waukesha) second
three times.
Hansman took top honors
in both diving events, compiling scores of 430.85 on the one meter
board and 438.45 on the three meter board. In the swimming portion
of the meet, Iimori won the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:00.09
and the 200 yard breaststroke in 2:15.97, while Zinoviev finished
first in the 400 yard individual medley with a time of 4:42.84.
The Titans also took first
place in three relay events, posting winning times of 1:29.35 in the
200 yard freestyle, 3:21.27 in the 400 yard freestyle and 3:44.19
in the 400 yard medley relays.
Carlsen headed UW-Oshkosh's
second-place efforts with times of 22.62 in the 50 yard freestyle,
50.16 in the 100 yard freestyle and 58.37 in the 100 yard backstroke.
Other second-place finishes went to Aaron Burg (Fr. New London)
with a time of 1:52.92 in the 200 yard freestyle, Brett Dill (Sr.
Janesville) with a time of 2:12.70 in the 200 yard backstroke
and Iimori with a time of 2:07.76 in the 200 yard individual medley.
UW-Oshkosh also finished
second in the 200 yard medley relay and 800 yard freestyle relay,
registering times of 1:42.24 and 7:48.62, respectively.
Titans Hold Off Vikings

Casey Carlsen (Jr. Waukesha)
and Chris Hansman (Jr. Neenah) each won two events as the UW-Oshkosh
men's swimming and diving team defeated Lawrence University, 132-103,
on Wednesday (Nov. 20) in Appleton.
Carlsen swam to first-place
times of 22.98 in the 50 yard freestyle and 49.59 in the 100 yard
freestyle, while Hansman registered winning scores of 274.35 in the
one meter and 294.50 in the three meter diving events.
Also winning events for
the Titans were Brett Dill (Sr. Janesville) with a time of
2:11.50 in the 200 yard backstroke, Yusuke Iimori (Fr. Saga,
Japan) with a time of 2:14.89 in the 200 yard breaststroke and Alex
Zinoviev (Fr. Komsomolsk-Na-Amure, Russia) with a time of 2:12.27
in the 200 yard butterfly. UW-Oshkosh also won the 200 medley relay
with a time of 1:42.17.
Second-place finishes for
UW-Oshkosh went to Aaron Burg (Fr. New London) in the 100 yard
freestyle (51.28) and 200 yard freestyle (1:53.94) and Jon Patzwald
in the 1,000 yard freestyle (11:37.85) and 200 yard butterfly (2:19.78).
The Titans also finished second in the 200 yard freestyle relay (1:35.67).
