Eagles, Warhawks Handle Titans
 The UW-Oshkosh
men’s tennis team closed its 2006 season by dropping a pair
of matches to UW-La Crosse and UW-Whitewater on Saturday (April
15) in La Crosse. The Titans lost 5-2 to UW-La Crosse before falling
6-1 to UW-Whitewater.
UW-Oshkosh (9-13) picked up victories from Joel Vedder (Jr. •
Mahtomedi, Minn.) at No. 2 singles and Seth Breunig (Fr. •
Sauk City) at No. 6 singles in its match against UW La Crosse (13-9).
Vedder defeated Mike Van Lieshout, 6-1, 7-6, while Breunig topped
Shawn Dobbins, 6-4, 7-5.
UW-La Crosse took three singles contests in straight sets as Dave
Wroblewski won 6-4, 6-2 over Corey Dickert (Jr. • Hartland)
in the first flight, Grant Bernard 6-4, 7-6 (10-3) over Brian Naidiaz
(Fr. • Kenosha) in the third and Deke Bradley 7-5, 7-6 (10-2)
over Brandon Lepp (Jr. • Green Bay) in the fourth.
UW-Oshkosh lost one singles altercation in three sets as Matt Predick
(Fr. • Delavan) was beaten 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 by UW-La Crosse’s
Jeff Strand in the fifth flight.
The Eagles won a pair of 8-6 decisions in doubles play as Van Lieshout
and Wroblewski defeated Dickert and Vedder in the first flight while
Bernard and Strand ousted Naidiaz and Mike Heroux (Fr. • Oshkosh)
in the second. UW-La Crosse’s Bradley and Garrett Mason also
earned an 8-1 victory over Breunig and Predick at No. 3 doubles.
Against UW-Whitewater, UW-Oshkosh received victories from Breunig
at No. 6 singles and Heroux and Naidiaz at No. 2 doubles. Breunig
defeated Matt Griffiths, 6-2, 6-1, while Heroux and Naidiaz edged
Steve Klaas and Bill Stranberg, 8-5.
UW-Whitewater (22-7), which also defeated
UW-Oshkosh by a 6-1 score on Feb. 5, received victories in singles
play from Jordan Shilts in the first flight, Alex Lowe in the second,
Klaas in the third, Stranberg in the fourth and Johnny Reed in the
fifth. Winning by 6-2, 6-1 scores were Shilts over Dickert and Reed
over Predick. The Warhawks also had Lowe trip Vedder, 6-2, 6-2,
Klaas beat Naidiaz 6-2, 6-2, and Stranberg edged Lepp, 7-5, 6-4.
The Warhawks took the team point in
doubles play as Lowe and Shilts posted an 8-5 win over Dickert and
Vedder in the first flight and Griffiths and Reed an 8-2 victory
over Breunig and Predick in the third. |
Blugolds Snap Titans' Winning Streak
The UW-Oshkosh men’s tennis team had its five-match
winning streak come to an end when UW-Eau Claire posted a 6-1 victory
over the Titans on Friday (April 14) in La Crosse.
UW-Eau Claire (14-5) won five of the six singles matches and two
of the three doubles contests to end a two-match losing streak.
Seth Breunig (Fr. • Sauk City) was involved in both UW-Oshkosh
(9-11) victories. He defeated UW-Eau Claire's Jeff Peterson by a
6-2, 6-3 score at No. 6 singles and teamed with Matt Predick (Fr.
• Delavan) to edge the Blugolds' tandem of Peterson and C.J.
Rose by an 8-6 count at No. 3 doubles.
UW-Oshkosh lost a hard fought match at No. 2 singles
as Joel Vedder (Jr. • Mahtomedi, Minn.) dropped a 1-6, 6-2
(10-8) decision to UW-Eau Claire’s Jake Znidarsich. The Titans
also dropped a pair of 6-3, 6-4 contests as Brian Naidiaz (Fr. •
Kenosha) lost to Steve Lantz in the third flight and Brandon Lepp
(Jr. • Green Bay) to Erik Brandner in the fourth.
The Blugolds picked up the team point in doubles play by winning
matches in both the first and second flight. At No. 1 doubles, the
UW-Eau Claire duo of Lantz and Tim Eisele defeated the UW-Oshkosh
tandem of Vedder and Corey Dickert (Jr. • Hartland), 8-4.
At No. 2 doubles, the UW-Eau Claire squad of Znidarsich and Aaron
Nordenskjold edged the UW-Oshkosh corps of Naidiaz and Mike Heroux
(Fr. • Oshkosh), 8-6. |
Titans Tame Sabres For Fifth Straight Win
The UW-Oshkosh men's tennis team extended its winning
streak to five consecutive matches by thrashing Marian College,
7-0, on Thursday (April 13) at the YMCA Tennis Center in Oshkosh.
It was the final home match of the 2006 season for the Titans.
UW-Oshkosh's shutout was its third
in as many matches. The Titans also posted 7-0 wins over the Milwaukee
School of Engineering on March 31 and Lakeland College on April
10. UW-Oshkosh hasn't lost since dropping a
7-0 decision to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (Calif.) on March
18.
In singles action, UW-Oshkosh (9-10)
took 71 of the 72 games played. Winning by 6-0, 6-0 scores for the
Titans were Corey Dickert (Jr. • Hartland) over Tyler Leinweber
in the first flight, Joel Vedder (Jr. • Mahtomedi, Minn.)
over Brian Ottman in the second, Brian Naidiaz (Fr. • Kenosha)
over Chuck Bergs in the third, Seth Bruenig (Fr. • Sauk City)
over Chee Vang in the fifth and John Graf (Fr. • Watertown)
over John Thompson in the sixth.
The Titans also had Matt Predick (Fr.
• Delavan) compile a 6-1, 6-0 win over Deniss Malejevs at
No. 4 singles.
In doubles competition, UW-Oshkosh
registered wins over Marian College (1-8) in 24 of the 28 games
played. The Titans had Dickert and Vedder defeat Bergs and Ottman
by an 8-1 score in the first flight, Naidiaz and Mike Heroux (Fr.
• Oshkosh) top Leinweber and Vang by an 8-4 count in the second
flight and Bruenig and Predick oust Malejevs and Thompson by an
8-0 tally in the third. |
Titans Reel In Muskies
The UW-Oshkosh men’s tennis team picked up
its fourth straight victory by defeating Lakeland College, 7-0,
on Monday (April 10) in Sheboygan.
UW-Oshkosh (8-10) won all six singles contests, including Seth Breunig’s
(Fr. • Sauk City) 6-0, 6-0 decision over Lee Sparks in the
fifth flight. The Titans also had Matt Predick (Fr. • Delavan)
defeat Devin Doyle by a 6-0, 6-1 score in the fourth flight and
John Graf (Fr. • Watertown) oust Brian Kaufmann by a 6-1,
6-2 tally in the sixth.
Other UW-Oshkosh winners in singles play were Corey Dickert (Jr.
• Hartland) in the first flight, Joel Vedder (Jr. •
Mahtomedi, Minn.) in the second and Brandon Lepp (Jr. • Green
Bay) in the third. Dickert defeated Matt Rutlin, 3-6, 6-1 (10-3),
while Vedder tripped Josh Larson, 6-0, 6-4, and Lepp topped Nick
Dulmes, 6-2, 6-3.
UW-Oshkosh swept all three doubles contests from
Lakeland College (1-6), including a pair of 8-0 victories by Breunig
and Predick over Dulmes and Sparks in the second flight and Jason
Flock (So. • Greenfield) and Mike Heroux (Fr. • Oshkosh)
over Doyle and Andres Araujo in the third. At. No. 1 doubles, UW-Oshkosh’s
duo of Dickert and Vedder defeated Larson and Rutlin, 8-3.

Titans Throttle Raiders
The UW-Oshkosh men’s tennis team lost only
12 games as it trounced the Milwaukee School of Engineering, 7-0,
on Friday (March 31) at the YMCA Tennis Center in Oshkosh.
UW-Oshkosh (7-10) won its third straight match by taking all six
singles and all three doubles contests played. The Titans needed
the minimum effort to defeat the Raiders (0-4) in two of the singles
and two of the doubles flights.
Posting 6-0, 6-0 shutouts in singles play were UW-Oshkosh’s
Corey Dickert (Jr. • Hartland) and Brandon Lepp (Jr. •
Green Bay). Dickert ousted the Milwaukee School of Engineering’s
Phanu Punyatrong in the first flight, while Lepp routed the Raiders’
Jason Anderson in the fourth.
The Titans also had Joel Vedder (Jr. • Mahtomedi, Minn.) defeat
Andy Haas by a 6-1, 6-0 score at number two singles and Seth Breunig
(Fr. • Sauk City) conquer Marko Lazarevic by a 6-0, 6-2 count
at number six singles.
Other winners in singles action for UW-Oshkosh were Brian Naidiaz
(Fr. • Kenosha) in the third flight and Matt Predick (Fr.
• Delavan) in the fifth. Naidiaz outscored Yiannis Glavas,
6-0, 6-4, while Predick topped Ross Slocum, 6-1, 6-2.
In doubles play, UW-Oshkosh received 8-0 victories from Dickert
and Vedder in the first flight and Naidiaz and Mike Heroux in the
second. Dickert and Vedder defeated the Milwaukee School of Engineering
tandem of Anderson and Glavas, while Naidiaz and Heroux tripped
the Raiders’ duo of Haas and Punyatrong.
UW-Oshkosh’s remaining doubles victory went to Breunig and
Predick in the third flight. Breunig and Predick recorded an 8-2
win over the Raiders’ couple of Lazarevic and Slocum.

Titans Oust Pioneers, Red Hawks
 The UW-Oshkosh
men's tennis team won both of their dual matches against Carroll
College and Ripon College on Sunday (March 26) in Fond du Lac.
UW-Oshkosh (6-10) defeated Carroll College (3-7) by a count of 6-1
and topped Ripon College (6-5) by a score of 5-2.
The Titans beat the Pioneers by winning five singles matches, all
in straight sets and all three doubles contests. In singles play
Joel Vedder (Jr. • Mahtomedi, Minn.) won in the second flight,
Brian Naidiaz (Fr. • Kenosha) in the third, Brandon Lepp (Jr.
• Green Bay) in the fourth, Matt Predick (Fr. • Delavan)
in the fifth and Seth Breunig (Fr. • Sauk City) in the sixth.
Vedder defeated Nick Kavelaris 6-1, 6-1, Naidiaz topped John Krewer
6-1, 6-1, Lepp swept Jace LaChapelle 6-2, 6-0, Predick ousted Ryan
Bly 6-0, 6-1 and Breunig blanked Eric Johnson 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles play Corey Dickert (Jr. • Hartland) teamed up with
Vedder to edge Kavelaris and Jayson Memken 9-8 in the first flight,
Mike Heroux (Fr. • Oshkosh) and Naidiaz beat Adam Knoelke
and Krewer 8-6 in the second flight and Breunig and Predick skunked
Bly and LaChapelle 8-0 in the third flight.
The lone Carroll College victory came in first flight singles where
Memken squeaked out at 3-6, 6-4, (10-6) victory over Dickert.
In the match against Ripon College UW-Oshkosh won four of six singles
flights and all three doubles flights to avenge a 4-3 setback last
season to the Red Hawks. In singles play Vedder won in the second
flight, Naidiaz in the third, Lepp in the fourth and Breunig in
the sixth.
Vedder defeated Ben Metzler 6-3, 6-2, Naidiaz squeaked by Ben Sweeney
2-6, 6-1, (11-9), Lepp did the same against Dan Weiler 6-2, 3 6,
(10-3) and Breunig manhandled Ryan Manis 6-0, 6-1.
In doubles action the tandem of Dickert and Vedder hung on in the
first flight to defeat Dave Czamecki and Paul Boogaard 9-7. In the
second flight Heroux and Naidiaz topped Manis and Metzler 8-2 and
in the third flight Breunig and Predick downed Sweeney and Weiler
8-6.
The lone victories for the Redhawks came in first and fifth flight
singles where Vanden Boogaard defeated Dickert 6-2, 6-1 and Alex
Wente pulled out a 6-4, 6-7, (10-7) win over Predick.

Titans Conquer Green Knights
The UW-Oshkosh men’s tennis team won five of
its six singles contests and all three of its doubles matches to
cruise to a 6-1 victory over St. Norbert College on Saturday (Feb.
11) in Green Bay.
UW-Oshkosh (2-2) registered four of its singles victories in straight
sets as Joel Vedder (Jr. • Mahtomedi, Minn.) won in the second
flight, Brian Naidiaz (Fr. • Kenosha) in the third, Brandon
Lepp (Jr. • Green Bay) in the fourth and Seth Breunig (Fr.
• Sauk City) in the fifth.
Vedder defeated the Green Knights' Andrew Winters,
6-1, 6-3, while Naidiaz topped Ryan Kerswill, 6-2, 6-4, Lepp ousted
Adrian Acosta, 6-3, 6-0, and Breunig edged Chris Schmitz, 6-4, 6-3.
The Titans also captured all three doubles contests in straight
sets as Vedder and Corey Dickert (Jr. • Hartland) won in the
first flight, Naidiaz and Mike Heroux (Fr. • Oshkosh) in the
second and Breunig and Lepp in the third.
Vedder and Dickert teamed to defeat the St. Norbert
College tandem of Acosta and Kerswill, 6-2, 6-2, while Naidiaz and
Heroux trimmed Schmitz and Winters, 6-4, 6-4, and Breunig and Lepp
dropped Ryan MacDonald and Aaron Sunday, 7-5, 6-1.
UW-Oshkosh’s other victory came at number six singles, where
Heroux defeated St. Norbert College’s Sam Spencer, 6-7 (6-8),
6-3 (10-5).
The only St. Norbert College (0-1) winner was Sunday at number one
singles. |
Titans Defeat Huskies, Fall To Warhawks
 The UW-Oshkosh
men's tennis team had mixed results in dual matches against Michigan
Tech and UW-Whitewater on Sunday (Feb. 5) in Whitewater.
UW-Oshkosh (1-2) picked up its first
win of the 2006 season in the opener by defeating NCAA Division
II Michigan Tech (0-3), 5-2. The Titans lost the nightcap to UW-Whitewater,
6-1.
UW-Oshkosh ousted Michigan Tech by
winning four singles and two doubles contests.
In singles play, UW-Oshkosh's Brian
Naidiaz (Fr. • Kenosha), Brandon Lepp (Jr. • Green Bay)
and Matt Predick (Fr. • Delavan) all won on tiebreakers. Naidiaz
defeated Michigan Tech's Yassine Borkadi in the second flight, 3-6,
7-6 (10-5), while Lepp conquered the Huskies' Rick Halverson in
the flight, 6-7, 6-1 (10-6). Predick posted a 1-6, 6-4 (12-10) victory
over Michigan Tech's Justin Foley in the fourth flight.
Seth Bruenig (Fr. • Sauk City)
registered UW-Oshkosh's remaining singles victory by defeating Michigan
Tech's Brandon Ellefson in the fifth flight, 6-2, 6-3.
UW-Oshkosh's two doubles victories
were both by 8-2 scores as the tandem of Lepp and Corey Dickert
(Jr. • Hartland) beat Michigan Tech's Borkadi and Chris Calder
in the second flight while the duo of Breunig and Predick tripped
the Huskies' Ellefson and Foley in the third.
UW-Oshkosh had little success against
UW-Whitewater as the Warhawks won five of six singles contests and
two of three doubles challenges.
Breunig took part in both UW-Oshkosh
victories, including a 4-6, 7-5 (10-8) win over the Warhawks' John
Friar at number five singles. Breunig also teamed with Predick at
number three doubles to trim the UW-Whitewater duo of Kelvin Caiati
and Erich Palecek, 8-5.
UW-Whitewater's performance in singles
play was led by Alex Lowe and Johnny Reed. Lowe tallied a 6-0, 6-1
victory over UW-Oshkosh's Naidiaz in the second flight, while Reed
compiled a 6-1, 6-1 victory over the Titans' Predick in the fourth.
UW-Oshkosh's closest setback in singles
action was Lepp's 6-4, 6-2 loss to UW-Whitewater's Steve Klass in
the third flight. |
Titans Drop Season Opener To Thunder
The Wheaton College (Ill.) men's tennis team swept
through all six singles and three doubles contests to defeat UW-Oshkosh,
7-0, on Saturday (Feb. 4) in Whitewater. The match was the first
of the 2006 season for UW-Oshkosh.
Wheaton College (1-1) won five of its
six singles contests in straight sets, including Geoff Pearman's
6-0, 6-2 victory over UW-Oshkosh's Brandon Lepp (Jr. • Green
Bay) in the third flight. The Thunder also had Ian Kirchner pick
up a 6-4, 6-0 victory over the Titans' Mike Heroux (Fr. •
Oshkosh) in the sixth flight.
UW-Oshkosh lost on a tiebreaker in
the fourth singles flight as Matt Predick (Fr. • Delavan)
dropped a 3-6, 7-5 (10-8) decision to Wheaton College's Josh Williams.
In doubles play, UW-Oshkosh lost three
close contests. The first flight had Williams and David Warren of
Wheaton College edge Heroux and Brian Naidiaz (Fr. • Kenosha)
of UW-Oshkosh, 9-8 (11-9). In the second flight, Christian Dawes
and Matt Siami of Wheaton College trimmed the UW-Oshkosh duo of
Lepp and Corey Dickert (Jr. • Hartland), 8-6. The third flight
had Kirchner and Pearman of the Thunder trip Predick and Seth Breunig
(Fr. • Sauk City) of the Titans, 9-8 (10-7). |
