UW-Oshkosh Loses Two Tight
Decisions To End Season

Seth BreunigTodd MillerThe UW-Oshkosh men’s tennis team lost two close decisions to end their season on the court as the Titans were defeated 5-4 by UW-Eau Claire and 6-3 by UW-La Crosse on Saturday (April 14) in Eau Claire.

Against UW-Eau Claire (13-7), UW-Oshkosh (11-14) split its six singles matches, but was beaten in two of the three doubles contests in the narrow defeat. Scoring straight set victories for the Titans were Todd Miller (Sr. • Milwaukee) in the number one flight and Seth Breunig (So. • Sauk City) in the fourth.

Miller defeated UW-Eau Claire's Tim Eisele, 6-0, 6-2, and Breunig beat Brett Gressick, 6-2, 6-0. UW-Oshkosh's Brian Naidicz (So. • Kenosha) also gained a win in the third flight with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 three set win over Aaron Nordenskjold.

The Blugolds received wins of 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 by Steve Lantz over Corey Dickert (Sr. • Hartland) in the second flight, 6-3, 6-1 by Jeff Peterson over Brandon Lepp (Jr. • Green Bay) in the fifth and 7-6, 4-6, 6-2 by Phil Loprinzi over James Lewison (Fr. • South Milwaukee) in the sixth.

In doubles play, UW-Oshkosh's Dickert and Miller blanked Eisele and Lantz, 8-0 in the first flight, Fuller and Naidicz were defeated, 8-3 by Loprinzi and Nordenskjold in the second and Breunig and Mike Heroux (So. • Oshkosh) were clipped, 9-7 by Erik Brandner and Peterson in the third.

In the match against UW-La Crosse (15-8), the Titans took two out of three doubles contests but could only manage one win in singles action in the defeat.

Miller finished the day undefeated as he beat UW-La Crosse's Mike Van Lieshout, 6-0, 6-2 in the first singles flight, and teamed up with Dickert to beat Grant Bernard and Mike Van Lieshout, 8-5 in the first doubles flight.
The other Titans victory came in the third doubles flight as Breunig and Heroux handed Joey Van Lieshout and Dale Wroblewski an 8-6 loss.

Having close matches for the Titans were Breunig at number four singles and Lepp at number five singles. Breunig was narrowly defeated by Joey Van Lieshout, 3-6, 6-3 (10-6) and Lepp was trimmed by Wroblewski, 6-1, 1-6, (10-4).
Other singles matches included a, 6-2, 6-4 loss by Dickert to Mike Mooren in the number two singles flight and a, 6-3, 6-2 loss by Lewison to Jeff Strand in the number six singles flight.

The Eagles' lone doubles victory came in the second flight as Mooren and Strand defeated Fuller and Naidicz by a 8-5 count.

Last year the Titans were defeated 6-1 by the Blugolds and 5-2 by the Eagles.

Titans Fall To Warhawks For Second Time

James LewisonTodd MillerThe UW-Whitewater men's tennis team extended its winning streak to six consecutive matches by defeating UW-Oshkosh, 7-2, on Friday (April 13) in Eau Claire.

UW-Whitewater (21-2), which hasn't lost since a 8-1 setback to DePauw University (Ind.) on March 27, won four singles contests and all three doubles challenges against UW-Oshkosh (11-12).

UW-Oshkosh's victories came at number one and six singles, where Todd Miller (Sr. • Milwaukee) defeated Robin Borg, 6-4, 6-1 and James Lewison (Fr. • South Milwaukee) slipped by John Friar, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1, respectively.

Individual winners for UW-Whitewater were Alex Lowe over Corey Dickert (Sr. • Hartland) in the second flight, Steve Klass over Brian Naidicz (So. • Kenosha) in the third flight, Johnny Reed defeated Seth Breunig (So. • Sauk City) in the fourth flight and Bill Stranberg beat Brandon Lepp (Jr. • Green Bay) in the fifth flight.

The Warhawks had little difficulty in the four singles contests as Lowe defeated Dickert, 6-2, 6-2, Klaas tripped Naidlicz, 6-2, 6-2, Reed ousted Breunig, 6-1, 6-2 and Stranberg beat Lepp, 6-4, 6-2.

UW-Oshkosh suffered all three setbacks in doubles play as Dickert and Miller lost 8-3 to Borg and Lowe in the first flight, Todd Fuller (Fr. • Oshkosh) and Naidicz lost 8-1 to Klaas and Stranberg in the second and Breunig and Mike Heroux (So. • Oshkosh) lost 8-1 to Reed and David Stefanik in the third.

Titans' Match Against Lakeland College Cancelled

With the forecast of inclement weather, Tuesday's (April10) men's tennis match at Oshkosh West High School between UW-Oshkosh and Lakeland College has been cancelled. The contest will not be rescheduled.

UW-Oshkosh concludes its 2007 season by playing three matches in Eau Claire this weekend. The Titans (11-11) take to the court on Friday (April 13) against UW-Whitewater (20-2) and Saturday (April 14) against both UW-Eau Claire (11-7) and UW-La Crosse (14-6).

Knights, Saints To Much For Titans

James LewisonTodd MillerThe UW-Oshkosh men’s tennis team had a tough afternoon on the court as it lost 9-0 decisions to both Calvin College (Mich.) and Aquinas College (Mich.) on Saturday (April 7) in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Against Calvin College (9-2), UW-Oshkosh (11-11) dropped five of its six singles contests in straight sets. The Titans forced a tiebreaker at number one singles, but Todd Miller (Sr. • Milwaukee) came up short in a 4-6, 6-4 (10-7) loss to Ricky Tilton.

Other singles winners for Calvin College were Marcus Zeilstra in the second flight, Rafael Siebenschein in the third, Steve DeMaagd in the fourth, Mike Goorhouse in the fifth and Dan Volkema in the sixth.

Zeilstra defeated UW-Oshkosh’s Corey Dickert (Sr. • Hartland), 6-2, 6-1, while Siebenschein tripped the Titans’ Brian Naidicz (So. • Kenosha), 6-3, 6-3. The Knights also had DeMaagd oust Seth Breunig (So. • Sauk City), 6-2, 6-2, Goorhouse conquer Brandon Lepp (Jr. • Green Bay), 6-2, 6-1, and Volkema top James Lewison (Fr. • South Milwaukee), 6-1, 6-4.

Calvin College won all three doubles contests, including a narrow 9-8 victory in the first flight as Tilton and Zeilstra edged Dickert and Miller. Other doubles winners for the Knights were Goorhouse and Siebenschein in the second flight and Volkema and David Sneller in the third. Goorhouse and Siebenschein defeated Naidicz and Todd Fuller (Fr. • Oshkosh), 8-3, while Volkema and Sneller tipped Breunig and Mike Heroux (So. • Oshkosh), 8-5.

Titans Smother Red Hawks

Seth BreunigThe UW-Oshkosh men’s tennis team won its third straight match as it defeated Ripon College, 8-1, on Saturday (March 31) in Oshkosh.

UW-Oshkosh (11-9) duplicated its longest winning streak of the season by taking five of its six singles contests and all three of its doubles competitions against Ripon College (2-5). The Titans also enjoyed a three-match winning streak in mid-February.

In singles play, UW-Oshkosh picked up three victories in straight sets as Todd Miller (Sr. • Milwaukee) won in the first flight, Seth Breunig (So. • Sauk City) in the fourth and James Lewison (Fr. • South Milwaukee) in the sixth. Miller defeated George Higgins, 6-3, 6-1, while Breunig ousted Dan Weller, 6-0, 6-2. Lewison had a 6-4, 6-0 win over Dan Rodriguez.

Other singles winners for the Titans were Corey Dickert (Sr. • Hartland) in the second flight and Brian Naidicz (So. • Kenosha) in the third. Dickert posted a 7-5, 6-7 (10-3) win over Dave Czarnecki, while Naidicz tallied a 6-2, 6-7 (10-7) win over Ben Metzler.

Victorious doubles squads for UW-Oshkosh were Dickert and Miller in the first flight, Naidicz and Todd Fuller (Fr. • Oshkosh) in the second and Breunig and Mike Heroux (So. • Oshkosh) in the third. Dickert and Miller had the toughest time of the three UW-Oshkosh groups as they tallied a 9-8 (7-4) win over Czarnecki and Higgins. Fuller and Naidicz recorded an 8-3 victory over Metzler and Schaller, while Breunig and Heroux compiled an 8-2 win over Rodriguez and Weller.

Earning Ripon College’s lone team point was Andy Schaller. Schaller defeated UW-Oshkosh’s Brandon Lepp (Jr. • Green Bay), 2-6, 6-2 (10-4), at number five singles.

Titans Annihilate Raiders

Brian NaidiczThe UW-Oshkosh men’s tennis team recorded its sixth shutout of the season when it defeated the Milwaukee School of Engineering, 9-0, on Friday (March 30) in Jackson.

UW-Oshkosh (10-9) dominated the match from start to finish as it won 68 of 72 games in singles play and 24 of 29 games in doubles action.

In singles play, UW-Oshkosh won three contests by 6-0, 6-0 scores. Posting shutouts for the Titans were Brian Naidicz (So. • Kenosha) over Marko Lazarevic in the third flight, Seth Breunig (So. • Sauk City) over Andrew Ohland in the fourth and Brandon Lepp (Jr. • Green Bay) over Ross Slocum in the fifth.

UW-Oshkosh’s other singles winners were Todd Miller (Sr. • Milwaukee) in the first flight, Corey Dickert (Sr. • Hartland) in the second and James Lewison (Fr. • South Milwaukee) in the sixth. Miller defeated Mark Outcalt, 6-0, 6-1, while Dickert ousted David LaCombe, 6-1, 6-1. Lewison posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Jason Anderson.

The Titans also handcuffed the Raiders (4-4) in doubles play as they registered victories of 8-1 in the third flight and 8-2 in both the first and second. Doubles winners for UW-Oshkosh were Breunig and Mike Heroux (So. • Oshkosh) over Anderson and Mitch Paulus in the third flight, Dickert and Miller over Ohland and Outcalt in the first and Naidicz and Todd Fuller (Fr. • Oshkosh) over LaCombe and Lazarevic in the second.

UW-Oshkosh Continues Trend In California

Seth BreunigCorey DickertThe UW-Oshkosh men's tennis team split its matches for the third time on its spring break trip and finished with a 3-3 record. The Titans opened Thursday (March 22) by recording a 7-2 loss to Chapman University (Calif.) in Orange, Calif. and finishing with a 9-0 sweep of La Sierra University (Calif.) in Riverside, Calif.

Chapman College captured five of six singles matches and two of three doubles contests to claim the victory over UW-Oshkosh. The Titans' victories came from James Lewison (Fr. • South Milwaukee) at number five singles and Todd Fuller (Fr. • Oshkosh) and Brian Naidicz (So. • Kenosha) at number two doubles.

UW-Oshkosh's Lewison beat Chapman College's Tyler Martin 6-2, 6-2 and Fuller and Naidicz slipped by Lex Barte and Tyler Martin 9-8 to account for the Titans' only victories.

Other matches included UW-Oshkosh's Todd Miller (Sr. • Milwaukee) losing to Clifford Yook, 6-4, 6-1 in the number one singles flight, Corey Dickert (Sr. • Hartland) being ousted by Morgan Serfus, 6-1, 6-3, in number two and Seth Breunig (So. • Sauk City) being defeated by Lex Barte, 6-2, 6-4, in number three.

The Panthers also received victories from Jeff Fracalosy at number four singles and Scott Fong at number six. Fracalosy narrowly defeated UW-Oshkosh's Brandon Lepp (Jr. •Green Bay), 2-6, 6-2, 7-5 and Fong defeated Matt Predick (So. • Delavan), 6-1, 6-2.

Chapman College had two victories in doubles action as Morgan Serfus and Yook defeated Dickert and Miller, 8-2 at number one doubles and Fong and Andrew Gabell slipped by Breunig and Mike Heroux (So. • Oshkosh) 9-8 at number three.

UW-Oshkosh (9-9) took care of La Sierra University in the nightcap by sweeping five of six singles matches and tallying a 24-5 game advantage in doubles action. Among the singles victories were three dominating 6-0, 6-0 performances and one, 6-0, 6-1 showing.

Recording the 6-0, 6-0 sweeps were Breunig over Joemm Blanche at number three singles, Lewison over Robert Walker at number five and Predick against Chris Huyuh at number six. Dickert ousted Jeremy Brown, 6-0, 6-1 in the number two singles flight.

Other singles matches for the Titans were a 2-6, 7-6, (10-5) victory by Miller over Alan Estareja at number one singles and a 6-4, 6-0 performance by Lepp over Ifer Gonzalez at number four.

UW-Oshkosh dominated La Sierra University in doubles action. The closest contest came in the first flight, where Dickert and Miller doubled up Blanche and Estareja, 8-4. The Titans also received a 8-1 win in the second flight as Fuller and Naidicz defeated Brown and Gonzalez and a 8-0 blanking in the third flight by Breunig and Heroux over Huynh and Walker.

UW-Oshkosh Continues To Be Even On West Coast

Seth BreunigCorey DickertSeth Breunig (So. • Sauk City) went unbeaten in singles play as the UW-Oshkosh men’s tennis team split its two matches for the second consecutive day with a 7-2 loss to Whitman College (Wash.) and a 9-0 sweep of Whittier College (Calif.) on Monday (March 19) in Whittier, Calif.

UW-Oshkosh (8-8) kicked off its double dose of activity by losing five out of six singles contests and two out of three doubles matches against Whitman College, ranked15th in the latest NCAA Division III poll.

In singles play, UW-Oshkosh's lone victory came from Breunig in the third flight with a 0-6, 6-3, 6-2 come from behind win over Jasper Follows. The Titans' Todd Miller (Sr. • Milwaukee) almost duplicated his teammates actions as he nearly came back from a first set defeat in the first flight before losing 4-6, 6-4 (11-9) to David Deming.

The Missionaries also enjoyed Dan Wilson's 6-3, 6-2 win over Corey Dickert (Sr. • Hartland) in the second singles flight, Nadeem Kassam's 6-3, 6-4 victory over Brandon Lepp (Jr. • Green Bay) in the fourth, Thomas Roston's 6-4, 6-4 result over James Lewison (Fr. • South Milwaukee) in the fifth and Robert Edles-Rye's 6-4, 6-2 decision over Todd Fuller (Fr. • Oshkosh) in the sixth.

UW-Oshkosh's winner in doubles play was Dickert and Miller in the first flight as they won 8-5 over Follows and Kassam. Other doubles match results included an 8-6 decision by Roston and Edles-Rye over Fuller and Brian Naidicz (So. • Kenosha) in the second flight and a 8-4 result by Deming and Wilson over Mike Heroux (So. • Oshkosh) and Matt Predick (So. • Delavan) in the third.

UW-Oshkosh followed its loss to Whitman College with a 9-0 whitewash of Whittier College. The Titans recorded five out of six singles victories in two sets and only lost three games in doubles play to record the shutout.

The Titans' toughest match was in number two singles flight as Naidicz held on for a 7-6, 6-7, (14-12) victory over Sean Robertson. Other UW-Oshkosh's singles results included Miller's 6-2, 6-1 victory over Justin DeLong in the first flight, Breunig's 6-0, 6-1 shellacking of Sean Summerall in the third and Lepp's 6-2, 6-0 decision over Gus Cawley in the fourth.

Singles action continued for the Titans as Lewison netted a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Daniel Benesch in the fifth flight and Predick tallied a 6-3, 5-3 injury default ruling over Joseph Choi.

UW-Oshkosh swept all three doubles contests as Dickert and Miller won in the first flight, Fuller and Naidicz in the second and Breunig and Heroux in the third. The results had Dickert and Miller beat Delong and Robertson, 8-1, Fuller and Naidicz blank Ainsworth and Summerall, 8-0, and Breunig and Heroux defeat Louis Astbury and Benesch, 8-2.

Titans Split Matches On First Day Of Spring Break Trip

Todd FullerJames LewisonThe UW-Oshkosh men's tennis team split two matches on the first day of its spring break trip as it recorded a 7-2 lost to Colorado College and a 9-0 victory over the California Institute of Technology on Sunday (March 18) in Pasadena, Calif.

Colorado College took care of UW-Oshkosh in the first match winning five out of six singles matches and two out of three doubles contests.

UW-Oshkosh's two victories against the Tigers came at number six singles, where James Lewison (Fr. • South Milwaukee) blanked Nick Kreczko, 6-0, 6-0, and at number two doubles where Todd Fuller (Fr. • Oshkosh) and Brian Naidicz (So. • Kenosha) slipped by Tyler Fox and Dakin Henderson, 9-8.

Individual winners for Colorado College included Daniel Soloman in the first flight, Paul Warning in the second, Fox in the third, Henderson in the fourth and Brian Thirkell in the fifth. Soloman had the toughest time as he narrowly defeated Todd Miller (Sr. • Milwaukee), 2-6, 6-3 (10-6). Other victories went to Warning by a 7-5, 6-1 score over Corey Dickert (Sr. • Hartland), Fox by a 6-4, 6-0 decision over Naidicz, Handerson by a 6-1, 6-3 verdict over Seth Breunig (So. • Sauk City) and Brian Thirkell by a 6-1, 6-3 ruling over Brandon Lepp (Jr. • Green Bay).

Colorado College's doubles victories went to Soloman and Warning in the first flight and Kreczko and Thirkell in the third. Soloman and Warning beat Dickert and Miller, 8-3 and Kreczko and Thirkell doubled up Mike Heroux (So. • Oshkosh) and Matt Predick (So. • Delavan), 8-4.

UW-Oshkosh (7-7) blanked the California Institute of Technology in the nightcap as the Titans lost only one set in singles play and outscored the Beavers 21-8 in doubles action.

The Titans received wins by Miller in the first flight, 6-1, 6-2 over Justin Lazear, Breunig in the third, 6-3, 6-3 over Vivek Narsimhan, Lepp in the fourth, 6-4, 6-1 over Eric Ming Tai, Lewison in the fifth, 6-1, 6-1 over Lu Chen and Fuller in the sixth, 6-2, 6-1 over Ram Kandasany. Dickert had the toughest contest in the second flight, overcoming a first set loss, 4-6, 6-4, (10-3) to defeat Rico Chu to secure the Titans' sweep in singles play.

Earning wins in doubles action for UW-Oshkosh were Dickert and Miller in the first flight, Fuller and Naidicz in the second and Heroux and Predick in the third. Dickert and Miller piled up a 8-1 win over Chen and Lazear, Fuller and Naidicz won by injury default when leading 5-3 over Narsimhan and Harish Vasudevan and Heroux and Predick netted a 8-4 victory over Chu and Ming Tai.

Titans Blank Pioneers To Snap Two-Match Skid

Todd MillerThe UW-Oshkosh men's tennis team snapped a two-match losing streak by posting a 9-0 victory over Carroll College on Saturday (March 10) at the Oshkosh YMCA Tennis Center.

UW-Oshkosh (6-6) won all six singles contests in straight sets, including Todd Miller's (Sr. • Milwaukee) 6-0, 6-0 victory over Jace LaChapelle in the first flight and Seth Breunig's (So. • Sauk City) 6-0, 6-0 win over Ryan Bly in the fourth flight.

The Titans also picked up two 6-0, 6-1 victories as Brandon Lepp (Jr. • Green Bay) walloped Dave Bingham in the fifth flight and James Lewison (Fr. • South Milwaukee) whipped Adam Knoelke in the sixth.

Other UW-Oshkosh winners in singles play were Corey Dickert (Sr. • Hartland) in the second flight and Brian Naidicz (So. • Kenosha) in the third. Dickert defeated John Krewer 6-2, 6-1 while Naidicz ousted Andy Prentice 6-2, 6-2. The Titans only lost a total of nine games in singles action against the Pioneers.

In doubles competition, UW-Oshkosh registered three wins over Carroll College (0-1). Lepp and Matt Predick (So. • Delavan) had the easiest time of UW-Oshkosh three doubles squads as they beat Bly and George Ward 8-2, in the third flight.

The Titans also pulled out victories from Dickert and Miller in the first flight of doubles and Todd Fuller (Fr. • Oshkosh) and Naidicz in the third. Dickert and Miller ousted Krewer and Prentice, 8-4, while Fuller and Naidicz edged Bingham and LaChapelle, 8-5.

NCAA Division I Salukis Bump-Off Titans

Todd MillerWins at every singles and doubles position lifted the Southern Illinois University men's tennis team to a 7-0 victory over UW-Oshkosh on Saturday (March 3) in Milwaukee.

Southern Illinois University (3-3) snapped a two-match losing streak by winning all six singles contests in straight sets, including Felipe Villasenor's 6-0, 6-0 victory over Brian Naidicz (So. • Kenosha) in the third flight and Nick Bauer's 6-1, 6-2 triumph over Brandon Lepp (Jr. • Green Bay) in the fifth.

The NCAA Division I Salukis also received individual wins from Sergio Sanchez in the first flight, Rodrigo Lama in the second, Milos Stankovic in the fourth and Hugo Vidal in the sixth. Sanchez defeated Todd Miller (Sr. • Milwaukee), 7-6, 6-2, while Lama ousted Corey Dickert (Sr. • Hartland), 6-2, 6-2. The remaining victories went to Stankovic by a 6-4, 7-5 score over Seth Breunig (So. • Sauk City) and Vidal by a 6-1, 6-3 count over James Lewison (Fr. • South Milwaukee).

In doubles play, Southern Illinois University survived two battles from UW-Oshkosh (5-6) as Sanchez and Stankovic edged Dickert and Miller, 8-6, in the first flight, while Lama and Vidal trimmed Naidicz and Todd Fuller (Fr. • Oshkosh), 8-5, in the second.

The Salukis picked up a win at number three doubles as Villasenor and Karl Nilsson blanked Mike Heroux (So. • Oshkosh) and Matt Predick (So. • Delavan), 8-0.

Titans Split Matches With Kohawks, Red Men

Brandon LeppJames LewisonThe UW-Oshkosh men's tennis team split two matches as it recorded a 5-4 win over Coe College (Iowa) and an 8-1 loss to Carthage College on Saturday (Feb. 24) in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

UW-Oshkosh (5-5) edged Coe College (4-2) in the opener on Brandon Lepp's (Jr. • Green Bay) 6-0, 2-6, 6-4 victory over Benji Gault in the ninth and deciding contest of the match. Lepp's match-winning triumph came at number five singles.

The Titans had two other individual winners against the Kohawks as Seth Breunig (So. • Sauk City) and James Lewison (Fr. • South Milwaukee) tallied victories at number four and number six singles, respectively. Breunig defeated Joey Lankelma in scores of 6-1, 2-6, 6-4, while Lewison ousted Aaron Neiderhiser in counts of 6-2, 6-4.

Earning wins in doubles play for UW-Oshkosh were Corey Dickert (Sr. • Hartland) and Todd Miller (Sr. • Milwaukee) in the first flight and Todd Fuller (Fr. • Oshkosh) and Brian Naidicz (So. • Kenosha) in the second. Dickert and Miller pulled out an 8-5 win over Chad Evans and Sam Zerbib, while Fuller and Naidicz earned an 8-2 victory over Tom Jennings and T.J. Leicht.

Coe College had three successful outings in singles play, including Ryan Yao's 6-2, 6-4 victory over Miller in the first flight and Evan's 6-3, 6-3 win over Dickert in the second. Jennings added a 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 victory over Naidicz at number three singles.

The Kohawks had one victory in double action as Neiderhiser and Yao edged Mike Heroux (So. • Oshkosh) and Matt Predick (So. • Delavan) by an 8-6 score in the third flight.

Carthage College (4-1) took care of UW-Oshkosh in the nightcap by sweeping all three doubles contests and winning five of the six singles competitions.

UW-Oshkosh's lone victory against the Red Men came at number six singles, where Lewison defeated Phil Hammond, 6-2, 7-6.

Individual winners for Carthage College were Miquel Yunes in the first flight, Jack Schiro in the second, Sergio Lopez in the third, Dave Sands in the fifth and J.T. Delk in the fifth. Lopez had the easiest time of the group as he blanked Naidicz, 6-0, 6-0. Other victories went to Yunes by a 6-3, 6-4 score over Miller, Schiro by a 6-2, 6-4 decision over Dickert, Sands by a 6-4, 6-4 verdict over Breunig and Delk by a 6-2, 6-3 ruling over Lepp.

Carthage College outscored UW-Oshkosh, 24-12, in doubles play. The closest doubles contest came in the third flight, where Delk and Hammond edged Heroux and Predick, 8-6. Pioneers Snap Titans' Three-Match Winning Streak

Todd FullerGrinnell College (Iowa) earned four of its five team points in singles play as it edged UW-Oshkosh, 5-4, in a men's tennis match held Friday (Feb. 23) in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

UW-Oshkosh (5-4), which suffered its first loss in four matches, sprinted out to a 2-1 lead over Grinnell College (4-0) by winning two of its three doubles contests.

Providing the Titans with their early advantage were the doubles teams of Todd Fuller (Fr. • Oshkosh) and Brian Naidicz (So. • Kenosha) and Mike Heroux (So. • Oshkosh) and Matt Predick (So. • Delavan). Fuller and Naidicz posted an 8-5 win over Sam Raife and D.J. Warden in the second flight, while Heroux and Predick tallied an 8-6 triumph over Eli Best and Jordan Lee in the third.

The Pioneers obtained their lone doubles victory when Nathaniel Fox and Dan LaFountaine registered an 8-2 win over Corey Dickert (Sr. • Hartland) and Todd Miller (Sr. • Milwaukee) in the first flight.

UW-Oshkosh picked up two wins in singles play as Miller ousted LaFountaine, 6-1, 7-6 (10-4), in the first flight and Brandon Lepp (Jr. • Green Bay) trimmed Raife, 1-6, 6-2 (13-11) in the third.

Winning singles contests for Grinnell College were Fox in the second flight, Best in the third, Warden in the fourth and Eric Ohrn in the sixth. Fox defeated Dickert, 6-3, 6-1, while Best beat Naidicz, 6-4, 6-2. Warden had a 4-6, 7-5 (10-6) win over Seth Breunig (So. • Sauk City), while Ohrn had a 6-3, 6-2 victory over James Lewison (Fr. • South Milwaukee).

Titans Double Their Fun

Todd FullerBrandon LeppThe UW-Oshkosh men’s tennis team added a pair of victories to its won-lost ledger by ousting Concordia University and St. Norbert College on Saturday (Feb. 17) in Green Bay.

UW-Oshkosh (4-3) tallied an 8-1 victory over Concordia University (0-3) in the opener before recording a 6-3 win over St. Norbert College (1-3) in the nightcap. The Titans have won their last five matches with Concordia University and their last 17 contests with St. Norbert College.

The Titans posted five victories in singles play, including Miller’s 6-3, 6-1 decision over Meiling in the first flight, Dickert’s 0-6, 6-1 (10-4) verdict over Lococo in the second and Seth Breunig’s (So. • Sauk City) 6-1, 6-2 ruling over Anschutz in the fourth.

Other winners in singles action for UW-Oshkosh were Lepp and James Lewison (Fr. • South Milwaukee). Lepp tallied a 6-2, 7-5 win over Sveom in the fifth flight, while Lewison marked a 6-0, 6-3 triumph over Justin Weber in the sixth.

The Falcons scored their lone team point on Aaron Hoeppner’s 7-5, 3-6 (11-9) win over Naidicz at number three singles.

UW-Oshkosh’s depth prevailed against St. Norbert College as the Titans overcame setbacks in the top-two flights of singles play and the highest level of doubles competition.

UW-Oshkosh had four winners in singles play as Lepp defeated Adrian Acosta in the third flight, 6-3, 6-4, Lewison edged Nate Tackaberry in the fourth, 7-5, 7-6 (8-6), Matt Predick (So. • Delavan) tripped Chris Schmitz in the fifth, 6-3, 6-4, and Fuller handcuffed Eddie Wire in the sixth, 6-2, 6-3.

The Green Knights got their two singles victories from Aaron Sunday in the first flight and Andrew Winters in the second. Sunday defeated Dickert, 6-2, 6-4, while Winters trimmed Breunig, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. Sunday and Winters also took part in a victory at number one doubles as they ousted the UW-Oshkosh duo of Dickert and Miller, 8-5.

Recording victories in doubles play for UW-Oshkosh were Fuller and Naidicz in the second flight and Heroux and Predick in the third. Fuller and Naidicz clipped Acosta and Ryan Kerswill, 8-6, while Heroux and Predick tripped Schmitz and Tackaberry, 8-3.

Titans Rout Vikings

UW-Oshkosh (2-3) won all six singles contests in straight sets, including Seth Breunig's (So. • Sauk City) 6-0, 6-0 victory over Travis Fondow in the third flight. The Titans also picked up three 6-1, 6-0 victories as Brandon Lepp (Jr. • Green Bay) thrashed Philip Roy in the fourth flight, James Lewison (Fr. • South Milwaukee) whipped Kyle Nodarse in the fifth and Matt Predick (So. • Delavan) battered Lincoln Thomas in the sixth.

Other UW-Oshkosh winners in singles play were Corey Dickert (Sr. • Hartland) in the first flight and Brian Naidicz (So. • Kenosha) in the second. Dickert defeated Daniel Hertel, 6-2, 7-6 (10-8), while Naidicz ousted Nick Dufficy, 6-2, 6-1.

In doubles competition, UW-Oshkosh registered wins over Lawrence University (0-1) in 24 of the 32 games played. Todd Fuller (Fr. • Oshkosh) and Mike Heroux (So. • Oshkosh) had the easiest time of UW-Oshkosh's three doubles squads as they blanked Dufficy and Nodarse, 8-0, in the second flight.

The Titans also received victories from Lepp and Naidicz in the first flight of doubles and Breunig and Predick in the third. Lepp and Naidicz edged Hertel and Fondow, 8-5, while Breunig and Predick tripped Roy and Thomas, 8-3.

NCAA Division I Phoenix Overpower Titans

UW-Green Bay (3-1) won five of its six singles contests in straight sets. The lone exception was Matt Clegg's 2-6, 6-4 (10-6) victory over UW-Oshkosh's Todd Miller (Sr. • Milwaukee) in the first flight.

Other singles winners for the Phoenix were Eric Hines in the second flight, Scott Dickert in the third, Mat Weiss in the fourth, Matt Keesey in the fifth and Eric Plaushines in the sixth. Keesey posted UW-Green Bay's largest victory in singles play with his 6-0, 6-0 win over UW-Oshkosh's Matt Predick (So. • Delavan).

UW-Green Bay also had Hines defeat Corey Dickert (Sr. • Hartland), 6-2, 6-3, Scott Dickert top Brian Naidicz (So. • Kenosha), 6-3, 6-1, Weiss edge Brandon Lepp (Jr. • Green Bay), 6-3, 7-5, and Plaushines trip James Lewison (Fr. • South Milwaukee), 6-3, 6-2.

In doubles play, UW-Green Bay recorded a pair of 8-2 victories as Mark Goldin and Tim Prudlow defeated Corey Dickert and Miller in the first flight while Keesey and Plaushines ousted Todd Fuller (Fr. • Oshkosh) and Mike Heroux (So. • Oshkosh) in the third.

UW-Oshkosh (1-3) lost in the second doubles flight as Lepp and Naidicz dropped an 8-4 decision to the UW-Green Bay duo of Scott Dickert and Hines.

Warhawks Sail Past Titans

Corey DickertThe UW-Whitewater men's tennis team extended its winning streak to 15 consecutive matches by defeating UW-Oshkosh, 8-1, on Sunday (Feb. 4) in Whitewater.

UW-Whitewater (5-0), which hasn't lost since a 4-3 setback to Colby College (Maine) last March, won all six singles contests and two of the three doubles challenges against UW-Oshkosh (1-2).

UW-Oshkosh's lone victory came at number two doubles, where Corey Dickert (Sr. • Hartland) and Todd Miller (Sr. • Milwaukee) posted an 8-6 win over Robin Borg and Alex Lowe. The loss was just the Warhawks' third in their 45 singles and doubles contests played this season.

UW-Oshkosh suffered a pair of narrow setbacks in doubles play as Brandon Lepp (Jr. • Green Bay) and Brian Naidicz (So. • Kenosha) lost 8-6 to Steve Klaas and Bill Stranberg in the second flight and Todd Fuller (Fr. • Oshkosh) and Mike Heroux (So. • Oshkosh) lost 9-7 to Johnny Reed and David Stefanik in the third.

Individual winners for UW-Whitewater were Borg in the first flight, Lowe in the second, Klaas in the third, Stranberg in the fourth, Reed in the fifth and John Friar in the sixth.

The Warhawks had little difficulty in three singles contests as Borg defeated Miller, 6-3, 6-2, Stranberg tripped Lepp, 6-3, 6-1, and Reed ousted Predick, 6-2, 6-2. UW-Whitewater also benefited from Lowe's 7-5, 6-2 win over Dickert, Klaas' 6-4, 6-2 victory over Naidicz and Friar's 7-5, 6-3 triumph over Lewison.

Titans Open Season With Mixed Results

James LewisonTodd MillerJames Lewison (Fr. • South Milwaukee) went unbeaten in singles play as the UW-Oshkosh men’s tennis team opened its 2007 season with a 7-2 win over NCAA Division II Michigan Tech University and a 5-4 loss to Wheaton College (Ill.) on Saturday (Feb. 3) in Whitewater.

UW-Oshkosh (1-1) kicked off its double dose of activity by posting a convincing win over Michigan Tech University (0-2). The Titans took the match from the Huskies after capturing five of the six singles contests and two of the three doubles encounters.

In singles play, UW-Oshkosh recorded all five of its victories in straight sets, including Todd Miller’s (Sr. • Milwaukee) 6-0, 6-4 win over Brett Girard in the first flight and Corey Dickert’s (Sr. • Hartland) 6-3, 6-4 triumph over Rick Halverson in the second.

The Titans also enjoyed Brian Naidicz’s (So. • Kenosha) 6-3, 6-1 win over Justin Foley in the third singles flight, Brandon Lepp’s (Jr. • Green Bay) 6-4, 6-1 victory over Brandon Ellefson in the fourth and Lewison’s 6-1, 6-3 decision over Chris Calder in the sixth.

UW-Oshkosh winners in doubles play were Dickert and Miller in the first flight and Lepp and Naidicz in the second. Dickert and Miller earned a 9-7 victory over Calder and Girard, while Lepp and Naidicz tallied an 8-4 triumph over Foley and Halverson.

Alan Parenteau took part in both of Michigan Tech University’s victories as he registered a 6-4, 6-1 win over Predick at number five singles and teamed with Ellefson to oust Seth Breunig (So. • Sauk City) and Matt Predick (So. • Delavan) by a 9-8 (10-8) score at number three doubles.

UW-Oshkosh followed its win over Michigan Tech University with a hard-fought loss to Wheaton College (2-1). The Thunder recorded all five of its victories in singles play, including three on a super tiebreaker.

Winning for Wheaton College in the tie-breaking session were David Warren at number two singles, Cory Kraftson at number three and Jonathan Przybyl at number five. Warren edged Dickert, 1-6, 6-3 (12-10), while Kraftson trimmed Naidicz, 6-7, 6-3 (10-5) and Przybyl clipped Lepp, 1-6, 6-4 (10-5).

The Thunder also received Josh Williams’ 6-2, 7-6 win over Miller in the first flight and Andrew Ziccard’s 7-5, 6-2 achievement over Predick in the fifth.

Lewison registered UW-Oshkosh’s lone individual victory with a 6-7, 6-3 (10-4) win over Colin Johnson in the sixth flight.
