GRAND CHUTE, Wis. - Jim Dougher was nothing short of dominant on Monday afternoon, and that was enough to keep the State University of New York-Cortland alive in the 2005 NCAA Division III Baseball Championship.

Dougher fired a five-hit shutout, and the Red Dragons defeated Wartburg College 5-0 in an elimination game at Fox Cities Stadium. Cortland (42-8-1) immediately faces another elimination game Monday against the College of Wooster. Wartburg ends its season at 37-11.

Jimmy Basnight, Shawn Ensel and Nick Wilson all went 2-for-4 to pace Cortland's 10-hit attack.

Dougher struck out five and walked two and was never in any real trouble throughout the contest. He allowed only two runners to reach as far as second base and neither one of them was there with less than two out.

Patrick Henderson picked up a two-out double for Wartburg in the top of the third, but he was stranded when Dougher got Aaron Port to line out to center field to end the inning.

Ryan Martin's bad hop single started the Wartburg eighth inning, and he moved to second on a two-out walk. Dougher, who improved to 6-1 on the season, then struck out Marc Numedahl looking to end the threat.

Casey Pauli led off the Wartburg ninth with a single, but Dougher induced a double-play ground ball from Joel Reynolds and then got pinch hitter Jeff Spiwak to foul out to end the game.

The Red Dragons provided Dougher with all the offense he would need with four runs in the second inning against Wartburg starter Tyler Archer, who lost his first game of the season (5-1).

Pat D'Auria led off the inning with a double and moved to third on Zach Tacelli's ground out. After a walk to Ricky Piovesan and an Ensel strikeout, Wilson doubled down the left-field line to score D'Auria.

Basnight followed with a run-scoring single to left, and Steve Newman then singled through the right side to score Wilson and Basnight for a 4-0 Cortland lead. .

The Red Dragons added another run in the sixth. Piovesan belted a two-out double to left field, and Ensel followed with a single to right to score him and make it 5-0.
