GRAND CHUTE, Wis. - University of Wisconsin-Whitewater pitcher Greg Reinhard got stronger as the day went along Saturday and so did his offense.

Reinhard gave up only two hits after the second inning, and the Warhawks came up with several key hits to edge Chapman University 7-6 in a winner's bracket game of the 2005 NCAA Division III Baseball Championship at Fox Cities Stadium in front of a crowd of 2,280.

Whitewater (43-7) advances to play either Rowan University or the College of Wooster in a winner's bracket game Sunday at 7 p.m. Chapman (37-10) takes on the State University of New York-Cortland at noon on Sunday in an elimination game.

"I always feel like I get stronger," said Reinhard, who improved to 12-0 on the season. "My best innings, I feel, are my fifth through seventh. The ninth is on adrenaline."

Reinhard went the distance, allowing 11 hits while striking out seven and walking two. He also got homers from Eddie Adamson and Aaron Guilbault to lift the Warhawks to the win. Adamson went 3-for-4 with three runs batted in, and Guilbault was 2-for-4.

The Whitewater ace was hit hard in the first two innings, as Chapman jumped to a 5-2 lead.

The Panthers scored twice in the first inning, as Justin Hallenbeck led off with a single. Tyler Dean later delivered a two-out single up the middle to score Hallenbeck and moved to second on the throw to the plate. John Alexander followed with a single to center field and Dean scored to put the Panthers up 2-0.

Whitewater came back to tie the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the first. A single by Ross Klawitter started the inning, and Dan Gnatzig and Eric Baldwin both reached on infield errors, with Klawitter coming in to score. Adamson later delivered a two-out single to score Baldwin and tie the game.

The tie didn't last long because the Panthers put three more runs up on the board in the top of the second. Chapman strung together six consecutive hits, with Hallenbeck delivering a key two-run double to left-center field. Jason Mooneyham also had a run-scoring single later in the inning. Reinhard avoided further damage by getting Alexander to ground into an inning-ending double play.

"They (Chapman) are a slap team. They are tough to pitch against," Reinhard said.

"It's frustrating because you're trying to be aggressive but they are just waiting for the fastball."

Whitewater started chipping away at the lead and at Chapman starter Buddy Klovstad. The Warhawks got a run in the fourth and the rally started with the third Chapman error of the game.

"We made a few uncharacteristic mistakes defensively and that hurt us," Chapman coach Tom Tereschuk said.

Aaron Soto took advantage of a throwing error by the shortstop and went to second on a ground out. Greg Harder then singled to right field to score Soto and cut the lead to 5-3.

Whitewater tied the game in the fifth with a big swing from Adamson. Gnatzig led off the inning with a single, and Adamson belted a two-run homer to right field to make the score 5-5.

In the seventh, Mooneyham finally slowed down Reinhard, who hadn't given up a hit since the second, with a one-out triple to right-center field on the first pitch of the at-bat.

"The first pitch I'm looking for something to hit," Mooneyham said. "If it's not there, I'm not going to hit it. He just grooved one right down the middle."

Dean lined out to center field and Mooneyham tagged up and scored to give Chapman a 6-5 edge.

Guilbault sent Klovstad to the showers when he led off the eighth inning with a towering homer to left field to tie the game at 6-6.

Scott Akamine came on in relief and immediately gave up a double down the right field line to Adamson. After a bunt moved him to third, Akamine uncorked a wild pitch and Adamson raced home to put the Warhawks up 7-6.

Chapman did get the tying run on base in the ninth when Matt Ricatto singled to start the inning. A sacrifice bunt moved pinch runner Chase Twedell to second, but Reinhard struck out Scott Zine and got Mooneyham to pop up to end the game.

"Great pitching performance, great hitting," Whitewater coach John Vodenlich said. "Things are starting to come around. You've got to like it. That's a very good team we beat."
