GRAND CHUTE, Wis. – The title contenders are set at the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship.

The College of Wooster and the University of St. Thomas will play for the championship at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday (May 26) at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Wooster (43-9) is unbeaten in the tournament, and St. Thomas (39-13) would need to beat the Scots twice to claim the crown.

Wooster is looking for its first NCAA Division III baseball title. The Scots are playing in the title game for the second time and took second place in 1997.

St. Thomas is playing in its first championship game since it won the crown in 2001. This is the fourth title game appearance for the Tommies, who took second in 1999 and 2000.

Wooster continued its perfect run in the finals with an 11-7 victory over Chapman University on Monday (May 25). The loss eliminated the Panthers, who finished at (32-17).

The Scots scored in each of the first four innings and led 11-4 after four. Tanner Hall pitched five innings of three-hit relief to pick up his third win of the season for Wooster. Luke Sutton went 3-for-3 to pace Wooster’s attack, and Matthew Pierce belted a two-run homer.

The Tommies claimed their spot in the title game with a 3-1 victory over Carthage College (38-9) in an elimination game.

St. Thomas got a gem of a pitching performance from John Licht. He went the distance, allowing seven hits while striking out six and walking one.

St. Thomas managed only five hits against Carthage pitchers Andy Pucher and Bryan Kieffer. Three of those hits were run-scoring singles from Drew Cremisino, Brian Schmitz and Matt McQuillan in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings, respectively.

John Lequia wrapped up a great tournament by pacing Carthage’s offense with three hits and by scoring the Red Men’s lone run.
