Hosting NCAA Division III Baseball Championship

UW-Oshkosh will celebrate 10 consecutive years of hosting the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Baseball Championship when the eight-team, double-elimination tournament is held May 22-26 at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium in Grand Chute.

Since its arrival to the Fox Valley in 2000, a total of 37 different colleges been competed at the event. Among them are seven-time participant Chapman University (Calif.) and five-time contestants Eastern Connecticut State University and State University of New York-Cortland.

UW-Oshkosh, which captured NCAA Division III baseball titles in 1985 and 1994, qualified for the tournament in its home area in 2003. The Titans played three games in that year’s event, including a 6-1 loss to Chapman University that drew a NCAA Division III-record 3,868 fans.

Trinity College (Conn.) is the defending NCAA Division III champion. The Bantams posted a 5-4 victory over Johns Hopkins University (Md.) in last year’s championship game.

Joining UW-Oshkosh as host of the 2009 NCAA Division III Baseball Championship are the Appleton Post-Crescent, Bergstrom Corporation, Fox Cities Convention and Visitors Bureau, Lawrence University and Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.

Besides baseball, UW-Oshkosh has hosted the finals of NCAA Division III Championships in the sports of women’s basketball (1996), men and women’s cross country (1999), men and women’s indoor track and field (1994, 1997 and 2001), men and women’s outdoor track and field (2007 and 2008) and women’s volleyball (1996).
