Men's 3,000-Meter Steeplechase Recap

OSHKOSH, Wis. – Hamilton College (N.Y.) freshman Peter Kosgei made his school’s second-ever men’s NCAA Division III qualifying experience a special one Friday (May 25) winning the 3000-meter steeplechase title at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium. Kosgei used a strong last lap kick to out-distance the field by nearly six full seconds.

Kosgei broke the nine-minute barrier, registering an NCAA Division III season best and J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium record time of 8:55.41.

St. John’s University (Minn.) junior Chris Erichsen, who entered with the second-fastest qualifying time, put in a game effort towards the end and placed second in 9:01.12. Occidental College (Calif.). junior Alex Ramon, who had the best qualifying time going in, ended third in 9:01.63, while Wartburg College (Iowa) senior Patrick Johnson took fourth in 9:02.55.
