Men's 400-Meter Run Recap

OSHKOSH, Wis. – Senior Bobby Young from Lincoln University (Pa.) became the first three-time champion in the 400-meter run since Mike Spangler from Susquehanna University (Pa.) accomplished the feat from 1986-1988 with a winning time of 46.75.

With the win, Young snaps a streak of sixth straight competitors that have repeated as national champions in the 400-meter run. Terry Anders from the University of Wisconsin-Stout started the streak in 1995 and 1996 and was followed by Rich Dixon from Rowan University (N.J.) (1997-1998), Tyler Stillman from the Ohio Wesleyan University (1999-2000), Ben Dreyer from St. Norbert College (Wis.) (2001-2002) and Andrew Rock from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (2003-2004).

Senior Tony Marcinek from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse made a charge at the end but came up short with a time of 46.87. Besides Young, Marcinek was the only returning All-American in the event as he placed sixth last year.

Taking third-place was junior Matthew Harden from Illinois Wesleyan University (Ill.) in a time of 47.02, capturing fourth-place was junior Freddy Linton from Emory University (Ga.) in a time of 47.61 and grabbing fifth-place was junior Scott Michel from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in a time of 47.65
