Men's 5,000-Meter Run Recap

OSHKOSH, Wis. - Senior Will Leer of  Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (Calif.) ran away from the field in the final lap to capture the 5,000-meter run at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium. A four-man race heading into the last lap, Leer sprinted away for nearly a four-second victory over second-place junior Tyler Sigl of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Leer won with a time of 14:25.41 while Sigl, who captured the 10,000-meter run Thursday (May 24) was second at 14:29.22.

Senior Andy Cloke of State University of New York-Cortland was third in the 5,000-meter run (14:30.54) while junior Chris Erichsen of St. John’s University (Minn.) placed fourth (14:31.23).

Colorado College junior Julian Boggs placed fifth (14:33.23), New York University junior Hany Abdallah sixth (14:33.47), New York University junior Ryan Williams seventh (14:35.37) and Haverford College (Pa.) junior Donald Letts eighth (14:36.32) to round-out the All-America list. Boggs was second in 2006. Abdallah, who entered the event with the top-qualifying time, placed fourth in the 10,000-meter run at this year’s national meet.
