Men's Pole Vault Recap

OSHKOSH, Wis. - Junior Peter Sprecher of Monmouth College (Ill.) captured the first pole vault title in school history Friday (May 25) afternoon with a winning mark of 16-3 ¼. Making his second appearance at the national championship, Sprecher earned his first career All-America award. He placed 10th in 2006.

Sprecher captured the pole vault at this year’s Midwest Conference Championship.

Senior John Heinz of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse placed second at 16-3 ¼. He tied for sixth in the event in 2005. University of Wisconsin-La Crosse senior Matt Novak, University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh senior Zach Johnson and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (Ind.) senior Ryan Schipper tied for third at 15-9 ¼. Novak was the defending champion while Johnson entered the championship with the top-qualifying mark of 17-2 ¼.

State University of New York-Cortland sophomore Jake Zanetti finished sixth at 15-9 ¼ while Lynchburg College (Va.) senior Andy Rollins and Loras College (Iowa) sophomore Kyle Calvert tied for seventh at 15-9 ¼ to round-out the All-America members.
