Men's Triple Jump Recap |
OSHKOSH, Wis. – Producing 15-meter or better jumps in three of his final four attempts, the University of Redlands’ Nathan Adkins became the second-ever men’s national champion for the Bulldogs by winning the men’s triple jump at the NCAA Division III National Championships on Saturday at J.J. Keller Field in Titan Stadium.
Adkins’ national title joined the efforts of former high jump standout Joel Mitre, who won individual titles for Redlands (Calif.) in 1995 and 1999.
The senior’s best effort of 50 feet, two inches defeated the rest of the field by just eight inches. It was an NCAA Division III season-best outing and a J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium record.
Freshman Kamar James of Fisk University (Tenn.) took second at 49 feet, six-and-a-quarter inches. Nick Kipe of Messiah College (Pa.) ended third at 48 feet, eight inches.
