Women's 10,000-Meter Run Recap |
OSHKOSH, Wis. - Amherst Colllege (Mass.) scored 15 points by taking first, sixth and seventh in the 10,000-meter run to take the lead in the team race after the first day of competition at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship.
Senior Shauneen Garrahan cut more than
50 seconds off of her qualifying time
to take top honors in a time of 34:48.19.
Joining her in taking All-American honors
were junior Heather Wilson in a sixth-place
time of 35:59.11 and sophomore Elise
Tropiano in a seventh-place time of
36:03.56. Amherst College has now won
three of the last four 10,000-meter
runs as Carter Hamill captured the crown
in 2004 and 2005.
It was deju vu for State University of New York-Plattsburgh’s junior Toni Wiszowaty’s and The College of Wooster’s (Ohio) senior Katie Wieferich. Wiszowaty took second and Wierferch third for the second consecutive year with times of 34:59.00 and 35:08.16, respectively.
Keene State College’s (N.H.) junior Jennifer Adams took fourth in a time of 35:22.52 and Calvin College’s (Mich.) junior Christina Overbeck took fifth in a time of 35:44.36. Junior Sarah Spencer from Grinnell College (Iowa) rounded out the All-America performances with an eighth-place time of 36:03.56.
