Women's 100-Meter Dash Recap

OSHKOSH, Wis. – Junior Shonda Jackson of Lincoln University (Pa.) claimed her second straight national title in the women’s 100-meter dash, rallying in the final 50 meters to score the triumph at the NCAA Division III National Championship at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

In a sprint held in a driving rain, Jackson was in the middle of the pack through the first half of the race, but rallied in the final 50-meters to secure the victory in 12.28 seconds. Mechelle Barnwell of the City College of New York, who ran a leg of the winning 400-meter relay earlier in the day, was second in 12.43 seconds, while Jackson’s teammate, senior Ashley Parker of Lincoln University, was third in 12.46 seconds. Lauren Deas of Cabrini College (Pa.) was fourth in 12.52 and Jodyann Raymond of the City College of New York was fifth in 12.56.

Jackson’s win marks the eighth and final national title for Lincoln University in the women’s 100-meter dash, as Lincoln University will move to NCAA Division II next season. Christopher Newport University (Va.) athletes have won seven women’s 100-meter titles, good for second on the all-time NCAA Division III list.
