OSHKOSH, Wis. – Wartburg College (Iowa) used its depth in the 1,600-meter relay to pull away for a victory in the final event on Saturday at the NCAA Division III National Championship at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

The Knights, who had three qualifiers for the 400-meter run, had all of them as part of the relay event, and pulled away for a 1.2-second victory, finishing in a NCAA Division III season-best time of 3:44.20. The event was close in the first three legs, with Bridget Burns, Amy Koester and Chelsey Jacobs running for Wartburg College. The Knights’ final runner, Hannah Baker - who had finished fourth in the 400-meter run - pulled away from the pack to win by 10-meters.

Williams College (Mass.) (Maddy Outman, Katie Howard, Carrie Plitt, Emily Heaslip) finished in second in 3:45.40. The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh (Nicole Pelischek, Nadine Pieske, Amy Mleziva, Amanda Donath), the host school for the championship, finished third in 3:46.96. Calvin College (Mich.) was fourth in the event in 3:46.98, while Willamette University (Ore.) was fifth in 3:47.42.

The relay victory, Wartburg College’s second event win of the day, helped them finish in seventh place in the team competition with 31 points. It was the first time that Wartburg College has won the Division III national title in the 1,600-meter relay.
