Women's 5000-Meter Run Recap
OSHKOSH, Wis. - Making a loud bid for outstanding athlete honors, Amherst (Mass.) senior Shauneen Garrahan completed a difficult triple crown by outkicking Sarah Zerzan of Willamette (Ore.) down the stretch for a thrilling NCAA Division III victory in the women’s 5,000 meters.

Garrahan, ranked third in the regular season, was first in 16:49.54 after capturing the 10,000 meters Thursday in 34:48.19 and the 3,000-meter steeplechase Friday in a NCAA Division III championships record of 10:13.33.

Zerzan grabbed a slim lead midway through the race but couldn’t shake Garrahan who finally took control down the home stretch for another J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium record. Jennifer Adams of Keene State (N.H.) was third (16:58.66) followed by Katie Wieferich of Wooster (16:59.44) and Esther Erb of Case Western Reserve (Ohio) (17:01.30).
