Women's 800-Meter Run Recap

OSHKOSH, Wis. - Wartburg College (Iowa) junior Heidi Porter took the lead with approximately 250 meters remaining and went on to win the 800-meter run at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium. Porter, who set a facility record with her winning time of 2:09.49, becomes the second athlete in school history to win the national title in the 800-meter run, joining Trina Steines who won the crown in 1998.

Porter is now a three-time All-American after finishing third in 2005 and fourth in 2006.

North Central College (Ill.) senior Amber Druien, the returning national champion in the event, placed second (2:10.47) for her third career honor. She was eighth in 2005.

Keene State College (N.H.) senior Sarah Miller placed third (2:10.65) while Concordia College-Moorhead (Minn.) senior Heather Schuster was fourth (2:10.78) and College of New Jersey sophomore Stephanie Herrick fifth (2:11.00). Senior Marcia Taddy of the University of Wisconsin-Platteville finished sixth (2:11.00) followed by junior Jordyn Smith of Willamette University (Ore.) seventh (2:11.82) and junior Annick Lamar of Haverford College (Pa.) eighth (2:12.58). Herrick placed sixth in 2006 while Taddy was the national champion in 2005.
