Women's Discus Recap |
OSHKOSH, Wis. – Shara Guidry of the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) continued her run of strong late-season performances in the discus Thursday (May 24) claiming the Tommies’ women’s program first throwing event national title.
Guidry, who cemented a spot in the national field at a last chance qualifier at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse last weekend, posted a best throw of 145-11 inches to defeat the 19-athlete field by eight inches.
Loras College (Iowa) wound up with two athletes placing in the top seven. Ellen Thys was second at 145-3, while Dana Klemm placed seventh at 136-5. Freshman Marissa Banks of Augustana College (Ill.) took third with a fling of 142-5 with senior Megan VanderVliet of Calvin College (Mich.) taking fourth with a toss of 141-7.
Shuree Gangloff of Whittier College (Calif.) took fifth with a fling of 139-5, Claire Ray of the University of Chicago (Ill.) grabbed sixth with a toss of 139-0 and Elizabeth Ehrke of Case Western Reserve University (Ohio) finished eighth with a heave of 134-7.
