Women's Javelin Recap

OSHKOSH, Wis. - Making her fourth appearance in the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship javelin finals, Central College (Iowa) senior Alicia Whisner finally captured the big prize, overcoming a stiff wind and a strong field to win with a toss of 153-9 at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

Whisner uncorked her winner on her second attempt, then withstood a late challenge from defending champion Lisa Brown of Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.). Brown’s final throw measured 152-3, while Brittni Stewart of Colby-Sawyer College (N.H.) was third (149-9) and Amy Reed of Messiah College (Pa.) took fourth (145-3).

Wheaton College (Ill.) sophomore Brandi McNeil, who had the season’s best throw of 161-11, placed fifth at 145-3.

Whisner, who received All-America distinction for the fourth time, had a previous-best finish of fourth place in 2006.
