Women's Pole Vault Recap

OSHKOSH, Wis.- Senior Meghan Voiland of Augustana College (Ill.) reached the top of the pole vault world at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium. After placing seventh in 2004, eighth in 2005 and second in 2006, Voiland won the 2007 title with a facility record of 12-10 ¼. She also becomes a four-time NCAA III All-America.

Voiland is the second athlete in school history to win the pole vault title, joining Doug Atkinson who captured the men’s pole vault in 1982.

Senior Megan Rossi of North Central College (Ill.) placed second (12-6 ¼) while senior Ashley Johnson of Wilmington College (Ohio) was third (12-6 ¼). Rossi earned her third career All-America honor with the second-place finish. A four-time national qualifier, Rossi placed fourth in 2004 and seventh in 2006. She was also ninth in 2005. Johnson earns her second accolade after capturing the national title in 2006. She entered the meet with the top-qualifying mark.

Senior Stephanie Barnes of University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire finished fourth (12-2 ½) while senior Jen VanderMeer of Hope College (Mich.) was fifth (12-2 ½). Barnes won the vault title in 2005, finished fourth in 2006 and 10th in 2005. VanderMeer was sixth in 2006.

Junior Cortney Walrath of Illinois Wesleyan University, junior Jessica White of Monmouth College (Ill.) and sophomore Kera Bartlett of Occidental College (Calif.) tied for sixth (11-10 ½). Walrath finished 17th in 2005 in her only appearance in the national championship while White also placed 17th in 2006 in her first appearance. Bartlett earned her first All-America honor with the tie for sixth-place.
