Titans' Farrington, Young Named To WIAC All-Time Team
Former UW-Oshkosh golfers Markka Farrington and Jennifer Young have been selected as members of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women's Golf All-Time Team. The league chose 10 individuals as part of its centennial anniversary celebration.
Farrington (1999-2002) and Young (2004-07) are the only golfers in UW-Oshkosh history to receive All-America honors.
Farrington (West Bend • West Bend West High School) totaled 154 strokes to win the individual crown and help UW-Oshkosh capture the team title at the 2000 WIAC Championship. The four-time All-WIAC first team selection then posted four 18-hole rounds in the 70s to place seventh at the 2001 NCAA Division III Championship in Forsyth, Ill.
Farrington concluded her career by placing third at the 2001 WIAC Championship and 18th at the 2002 NCAA Division III Championship in South Hadley, Mass. Those performances, and others during the 2001-02 season, earned her second-team mention on the NCAA Division III All-America squad.
Young, a two-time WIAC Player of the Year, was named to the NCAA Division III All-America second team four times. In 2003, she placed second at the WIAC Championship to lead the Titans to the team title. The Titans went on to place fourth at the 2004 NCAA Division III Championship in Green Lake for their best national finish in school history. Young took 36th place at the national meet.
Young (Salem • Westosha Central High School) was unable to compete at the 2004 WIAC Championship due to an injury. She returned to action in the spring and placed 18th at the NCAA Division III Championship in Southern Pines, N.C.
During the 2005-06 season, Young placed sixth at the WIAC Championship and 15th at the NCAA Division III Championship in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. Young wrapped up her career by finishing second at the 2006 WIAC Championship and 12th at the 2007 NCAA Division III Championship in Howey-in-the-Hills.
Five of the All-Time selections came from UW-Eau Claire. Blugolds on the squad were Maggie Loney (2003-06), Katie Maurer (2009-11), Jennifer Prock (2001-04), Meghan Sobotta (2005-08) and Jessica Thompson (2004-07). The remaining golfers were Christy Huegerich (1999-02) and Beth St. Thomas (1982-86) of UW-Whitewater and Jessica Urban (2007-10) of UW-Stevens Point. UW-Eau Claire's John Means (2006-11) was named the All-Time Coach.
The WIAC is recognizing the outstanding individuals from the league's 100-year history. All-time teams are being selected in those men's and women's sports that have been classified as "championship" sports at some point since 1913. Additional teams will be released on a weekly basis throughout much of the 2011-12 academic year.
All-time team members will receive certificates from the conference and it is hoped that most, if not all, of the recipients will be in attendance or represented at the WIAC Centennial Banquet in Madison on Aug. 4, 2012.

Wilcox Named Titans' New Head Golf Coach
Jessie Wilcox has been selected as the new head women’s golf coach at UW-Oshkosh.
Wilcox, who enters her second season as the school's assistant women's basketball coach, takes over for Tim Gaubatz. During Gaubatz's eight seasons as head coach, UW-Oshkosh won the WIAC title in 2004 and finished second in the league in 2005, 2006 and 2007. The Titans took fourth place at the 2004 NCAA Division III Championship.
Due to her involvement in four other sports, Wilcox did not play high school golf. She continued to practice the game as a hobby, and she took first place in the A flight at the 2009 Oshkosh City Tournament.
Wilcox is a graduate of Oshkosh West High School, where she earned four varsity letters and played on two state championship basketball teams. She was an all-state selection while establishing school records for career steals (207) and assists in a season (83).
After high school, Wilcox played four years of basketball at NCAA Division I Northern Illinois University. She totaled 1,007 career points and was named to the All-Mid American Conference Team in 2009. Wilcox also earned academic honors for her 3.86 cumulative grade point average as an art education major.
UW-Oshkosh expects all seven of last year’s letter winners to compete for a spot on this season’s team. That group includes senior Kim Sippl (Sr. • Omro), who finished 16th at the 2010 WIAC Championship.
