UW-Oshkosh’s Cheryl Treadwell (Sr. • Brookfield) was one of 371 student-athletes named to the National Golf Coaches Association’s (NGCA) 2006 All-American Scholar Team. The squad is comprised of women’s collegiate golfers from NCAA Division I, II and III schools.

The criteria for selection to the NGCA’s All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent of all college athletics. The minimum cumulative grade point average is 3.50 and student-athletes must have completed in at least 50 percent of their college’s regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.

Treadwell owns a 3.84 cumulative grade point average as a finance major. She is a three-time NGCA Scholar All-American and has been recognized on UW-Oshkosh's Dean's List five semesters and the school's Honor Roll once. Last fall, Treadwell was named the winner of the WIAC’s Judy Kruckman Women’s Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award.

Treadwell, a two-year team captain, helped UW-Oshkosh to a second-place finish at the 2005 WIAC championships by placing 20th in the individual competition. She received NGCA All-America honorable mention recognition during the 2003-04 season when UW-Oshkosh finished fourth at the NCAA Division III Championship.

Treadwell claimed the top individual honor at the 2002 WIAC Championship, helping the Titans to the team title. She received all-WIAC first team status in 2004.

Other WIAC selections to the NGCA’s 2006 All-American Scholar Team were Courtney Timblin of UW-Stevens Point and Kendall Egnarski and Diana Schmidt of UW-Whitewater.

Earlier this summer, Treadwell was selected to the 2006 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Five College Division Women's At-Large Team.

UW-Oshkosh golfer Cheryl Treadwell (Sr. • Brookfield) was among four WIAC student-athletes named to the 2006 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Five College Division Women's At-Large Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Treadwell and UW-Eau Claire ice hockey player Amanda Schultz were first team selections, while UW-La Crosse gymnast Nina Schubert and UW-Stevens Point ice hockey player Amy Statz were second team honorees.

Treadwell owns a 3.776 cumulative grade point average as a finance major. She averaged 84.3 strokes per 18-hole round during the 2005-06 season and captured the individual title at the UW-Oshkosh Invitational held Sept. 10-11.

Treadwell, who is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma and UW-Oshkosh's Business Honor Society, helped the Titans to WIAC titles in 2002 and 2003. She took first place in the individual competition at the league championship in 2002 and third in 2003. Treadwell received NGCA All-America honorable mention recognition during the 2003-04 season when UW-Oshkosh finished fourth at the NCAA Division III Championship.

The all-district team is comprised of all NCAA Division II, Division III and NAIA student-athletes from Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana and Minnesota and is voted on by members of CoSIDA. The at-large program includes student-athletes in the sports of golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, swimming and diving, tennis and water polo.

To be eligible, a student-athletes must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program’s inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA.

UW-Oshkosh’s Jennifer Young (Jr. • Salem) has been named as a second team selection on the National Golf Coaches Association’s (NGCA) 2006 NCAA Division III Women’s Golf All-America Team.

The NGCA selected 11 players to its NCAA Division III All-America squad, including Young who was voted to the second team for the third consecutive season.

Methodist College (N.C.), which captured this year's NCAA Division III title, had three players receive All-America accolades, including first team selections Katie Dick and Charlotte Williams. The Lady Monarchs also had Heather Martin named to the second team.

Joining Dick and Williams on the first team were Susan Choi of Wellesley College (Mass.), Sarah Gates of DePauw University (Ind.), Maggie Loney of UW-Eau Claire and Katie Tewell of Franklin College (Ind.).

Kelly Groff of Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.), Megan Sobotta of UW-Eau Claire, Jen Stork of Buena Vista College (Iowa) joined Martin and Young on the second team.

She averaged 80.3 strokes per round during the 2005-06 season and captured second-place finishes at the Augustana College Invitational held Sept. 1 and the Carthage College Invitational held Sept. 23. Young also placed sixth at the WIAC Championship held Oct. 1-2.

In 2004-05, she placed 18th at the 2005 NCAA Division III Championship held May 10-13 in Southern Pines, N.C. She averaged 80.4 strokes per round during the 2004-05 season and captured the individual title at the Hickory Point Invitational held April 22-23 in Decatur, Ill.

In 2003-04, Young finished 34th at the NCAA Division III Championship to help UW-Oshkosh to a fourth-place standing. She averaged 82.3 strokes per round that season and finished first at the Carthage College Invitational.

Young was one of 10 golfers selected to the NCAA Division III All-Region III team and one of five golfers voted to the All-WIAC squad. UW-Oshkosh golfers named to the All-WIAC second team were Jessica Tiffe (So. • Brookfield) and Cheryl Treadwell (Sr. • Brookfield).

UW-Oshkosh’s Jennifer Young (Jr. • Salem) finished 15th out of 60 participants at the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship held Tuesday through Friday (May 9-12) at the Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.

Young took 327 shots, 35 over par, to rank 15th in the 72-hole tournament. She posted 18-hole scores of 79, 86, 83 and 79. Young finished 18th at the event in 2005 and 34th in 2004.

Charlotte Williams of Methodist College (N.C.) claimed the individual title with 308 shots, 16 over par. Williams, who also captured medallist honors a year ago, compiled 18-hole scores of 77, 76, 76 and 79. Methodist College also swept the next two individual places as Katie Dick and Colleen Walsh tied for second with 312 strokes, 20 over par.

Methodist College led from start to finish to win its seventh straight NCAA Division III team title. The Monarchs took 1,240 shots in the tournament after registering 18-hole scores of 308, 307, 313 and 312. Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) finished second with 1,316 strokes, while DePauw University (Ind.) placed third with 1,317, Wartburg College (Iowa) fourth with 1,326 and UW-Eau Claire fifth with 1,357.

UW-Oshkosh’s Jennifer Young (Jr. • Salem) has been selected to play in the 2006 NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championship. The 72-hole tournament will be held Tuesday (May 9) through Friday (May 12) at the Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.

This year’s championship will consist of both team and individual competition. The NCAA picked 10 teams and 10 individuals, not from selected teams, to compete in the event.

Young is making her third NCAA Division III Championship appearance after finishing 18th in 2005 and 36th in 2004. This season, the two-time NCAA Division III All-America second team selection has averaged 79.87 strokes for her 15 18-hole rounds.

In addition to Young, other individual selections for this year’s championship were Susan Choi of Wellesley College (Mass.), Maureen Hardwick of the University of St. Thomas (Minn.), Chrissy Helms of Anderson University (Ind.), Elizabeth Kreger of Albion College (Mich.), Megan Mattia of St. Mary’s College (Ind.), Kara Solem of Mount Holyoke College (Mass.), Jennifer Stork of Buena Vista University (Iowa), Katie Tewell of Franklin College (Ind.) and Whitney Ueno of Willamette University (Ore.).

Selected for the team competition were Allegheny College (Pa.), DePauw University (Ind.), Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.), Hardin-Simmons University (Texas), Illinois Wesleyan University, Mary Hardin-Baylor University (Texas), six-time defending champion Methodist College (N.C.), Southwestern University (Texas), UW-Eau Claire and Wartburg College (Iowa).

UW-Oshkosh finished fourth in the team standings at the 2004 NCAA Division III Championship and fifth in 2003.

The WIAC Scholar-Athlete Award is named after Judy Kruckman, who served as Assistant Commissioner for the WIAC from 1996-98. Prior to this appointment, she functioned as Commissioner of the Wisconsin Women's Intercollegiate Athletic Conference from 1984-96.

In order to be nominated for the scholar-athlete award, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.25 grade point average, be in their last year of competition, or on schedule to graduate this academic year, and have competed for a minimum of two years.

The UW-Oshkosh women’s golf team lost a six-stroke lead after 18 holes of competition and finished second at the UW-Whitewater Invitational held Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 24-25) at the Prairie Woods Golf Course in Avalon.

Illinois Wesleyan University won the 36-hole tournament with 642 strokes, 66 over par. UW-Oshkosh finished second with 652 strokes, while UW-Eau Claire placed third with 664, Illinois College fourth with 673 and Carthage College fifth with 674. A total of 17 teams competed in the tournament, which UW-Oshkosh led 316-322 over Illinois Wesleyan University after 18 holes.

UW-Oshkosh’s Jennifer Young (Jr. • Salem) finished second in the individual competition with 152 strokes, eight over par. UW-Eau Claire’s Maggie Loney took just 144 swings to capture medalist honors. Loney’s 144 strokes is exactly par for course.

In addition to Young, UW-Oshkosh had Megan Scherg (Fr. • Kimberly) finish 10th with 162 strokes, Jessica Tiffe (So. • Brookfield) and Cheryl Treadwell (Sr. • Brookfield) 21st with 170 and Liz Buske (So. • Stoughton) 25th with 171. A total of 98 golfers participated in the tournament.
