UW-Oshkosh Trio Competes At
NCGA Championship
  The UW-Oshkosh women's gymnastics
team was unable to send any of its three representatives to the finals
of the NCGA Championship held Friday and Saturday (April 2-3) in Cambridge,
Mass.
UW-Oshkosh qualified three gymnasts for the
meet, Amanda DeJardin (Jr. Waukesha) on the balance beam, Brianna
Lentz (So. West Allis) in the all-around competition and Justine
Russell (Fr. Cincinnati, Ohio) on the balance beam, uneven bars
and vault.
Lentz had the highest finish for UW-Oshkosh,
placing 17th in the all-around competition with a score of 36.55. She
also finished 22nd in the floor exercise with a score of 9.775, 31st on
the vault with a mark of 9.35, 44th on the balance beam with a tally of
8.875 and 50th on the uneven bars with a figure of 8.55.
Russell finished 18th on the balance beam
with a score of 9.375, 20th on the vault with a mark of 9.425 and 54th
on the uneven bars with a number of 7.80.
DeJardin finished 47th on the balance beam
with a score of 8.80.
Carrie Santore of State University of New
York-Brockport won three individual titles, the all-around competition
with a score of 38.675, the floor exercise with a mark of 19.85 and the
vault with a figure of 19.45. Other individual champions were Danin Squires
of State University of New York-Cortland on the balance beam with a score
of 19.275 and Nina Schubert of UW-La Crosse on the uneven bars with a
mark of 19.375.
UW-La Crosse captured the team championship
with a score of 191.275. The title was the Eagles' fourth in as many years
and ninth overall. Ithaca College (N.Y.) finished second in the eight-team
meet with a score of 189.80 and State University of New York-Brockort
third at 189.35.
Titans Finish Fifth At NCGA Regional
  Recording only four top-10 individual
listings, the UW-Oshkosh women's gymnastics team finished fifth at the
NCGA West Regional held Friday (March 19) in Eau Claire.
UW-La Crosse compiled
a team score of 185.125 to successfully defend its NCGA West Regional
crown, while Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) finished second with a
count of 182.50.
Hamline University
(Minn.) finished third in the seven-team meet with a score of 180.825,
while UW-Eau Claire finished fourth at 179.85, UW-Oshkosh fifth at 177.425,
UW-Whitewater sixth at 175.20 and UW-Stout seventh at 173.075. UW-Oshkosh's
team score was its second-highest of the season.
UW-Oshkosh was led
by Justin Russell's (Fr. Cincinnati, Ohio) two 10th-place finishes.
Russell had a score of 9.225 on the balance beam and a mark of 35.65 in
the all-around competition.
The Titans also received
seventh-place efforts from Amanda DeJardin (Jr. Waukesha) and Brianna
Lentz (So. West Allis). DeJardin recorded a score of 9.25 on the
balance beam, while Lentz had a count of 35.95 in the all-around competition.
Capturing event titles
were Alyssa Cox of Gustavus Adolphus College on the vault with a score
of 9.55, Ashley Koechel of UW-La Crosse on the uneven bars with a count
of 9.375, Jennifer Houle of UW-La Crosse on the balance beam with a tally
of 9.65 and Rhian Paulson of UW-Stout in the floor exercise with a mark
of 9.525. Lynn Morris of UW-Eau Claire won the all-around competition
with a score of 36.925.
DeJardin, Lentz and Russell
will represent UW-Oshkosh at the of the 20th Annual NCGA Championship
that will be held April 2-3 in Cambridge, Mass.
Russell will take part in two events at the
national meet, the balance beam and the vault. DeJardin will compete on
the balance beam, while Lentz will participate in the all-around competition.
Last year, Lentz placed seventh in the all-around competition and 11th
in the floor exercise.
Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.), Hamline
University (Minn.) Ithaca College (N.Y.), Massachusetts Institute of Technology,
State University of New York-Brockport, State University of New York-Cortland,
UW-Eau Claire and defending champion UW-La Crosse are the team qualifiers
for the 2004 NCGA Championship.
Gusties Roar Past Titans
Amanda Parker finished first
on the balance beam, uneven bars and in the all-around competition as
the Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) women's gymnastics team defeated
UW-Oshkosh, 182.425-173.025, on Friday (March 12) in St. Peter, Minn.
Parker won the all-around competition with
a score of 37.40, while capturing event crowns on the balance beam and
uneven bars with scores of 9.40 and 9.30, respectively. She shared the
balance beam title with UW-Oshkosh's Justine Russell (Fr. Cincinnati,
Ohio).
The Gusties also had Alyssa Cox win the vault
with a score of 9.375 and Nicole Gergen the floor exercise with a mark
of 9.50.
In addition to her first-place finish on
the balance beam, Russell also ranked second in the all-around competition
and fifth on both the uneven bars and vault. She had scores of 35.95 in
the all-around competition, 8.55 on the uneven bars and 9.05 on the vault.
The Titans also received a third-place score
of 33.75 in the all-around competition from Brianna Lentz (So.
West Allis), a fourth-place score of 9.075 on the vault from Kim Edson
(Fr. Eastampton, N.J.), a fifth-place score of 9.25 on the balance
beam from Lauren Mareno (Fr. Crystal Lake, Ill.) and sixth-place
scores of 9.10 on the balance beam from Amanda DeJardin (Jr. Waukesha)
and 8.30 on the uneven bars from Lentz.
UW-Oshkosh will compete in the NCGA West
Regional next Friday (March 19) in Eau Claire. The top four teams in the
regional will advance to the NCGA Championship on April 2-3 in Boston,
Mass.
Titans Place Third At WIAC Championship

UW-Oshkosh listed among the top-three
teams for the 15th time in 16 years when it placed third at the
31st Annual WIAC Women's Gymnastics Championship held Friday (March
5) in La Crosse.
UW-La Crosse compiled a meet-record
186.70 points to win its eighth straight WIAC title and 15th overall,
while UW-Eau Claire finished second at 181.50. UW-Oshkosh, a 14-time
WIAC champion, finished third in the five-team competition with
a score of 176.50, while UW-Whitewater finished fourth at 174.125
and UW-Stout fifth at 171.725. UW-Oshkosh's team score was its second-highest
of the season.
Justine Russell (Fr. Cincinnati,
Ohio) led UW-Oshkosh by ranking in the top 10 in three areas, the
balance beam with a fourth-place score of 9.325, the all-around
competition with a fifth-place mark of 35.925 and the vault with
a seventh-place rating of 9.30.
UW-Oshkosh's Melissa Riley (Fr.
Hutchinson, Kan.) also finished in the top 10 in multiple areas,
the all-around competition with a ninth-place score of 34.975 and
the uneven bars with a 10th-place tally of 8.60.
In addition to Russell and Riley, the
Titans received strong showings from Lauren Mareno (Fr. Crystal
Lake, Ill.), who finished sixth in the floor exercise with a score
of 9.375, and Amanda DeJardin (Jr. Waukesha), who finished
eighth on the balance beam with a mark of 9.05.
UW-La Crosse claimed four individual
championships in the meet, including a pair by Jenna Houle. Houle
finished first on the balance beam with a score of 9.50 and the
vault with a mark of 9.55. UW-La Crosse also received first-place
scores of 37.35 in the all-around competition from Ashley Koechel
and 9.675 from Nina Schubert on the uneven bars. Koechel's all-around
tally established a WIAC record.
The lone remaining individual title
in the championship went to UW-Eau Claire's Alison Eagles, who finished
first on the vault with a score of 9.65.
Barbara Gibson of UW-La Crosse was
voted WIAC Coach of the Year, while UW-La Crosse's Angela Erato
was named the winner of WIAC's Judy Kruckman Senior Scholar-Athlete

Titans Finish Fifth At
Zuerlein Invitational
With the WIAC Championship just
one week away, the UW-Oshkosh women's gymnastics team finished a disappointing
fifth among its four league rivals at the John Zuerlein Invitational held
Friday (Feb. 27) in Menomonie.
UW-La Crosse won the five-team meet, all
WIAC members, with a score of 184.20, while UW-Eau Claire finished second
at 180.025, UW-Whitewater third at 174.775, UW-Stout fourth at 173.775
and UW-Oshkosh fifth at 173.025. All five teams will meet each other again
next Friday (March 5) at the WIAC Championship in La Crosse.
UW-Oshkosh struggled in the meet as the nine
gymnasts who represented the Titans combined for only five top-10 finishes.
Brianna Lentz (So. West Allis) had a pair of top-10 rankings for
the Titans as she finished fourth in the floor exercise with a score of
9.30 and sixth in the all-around competition with a mark of 35.55.
Amanda DeJardin (Jr. Waukesha) recorded
the highest finish for the Titans by placing second on the balance beam
with a score of 9.35. UW-Oshkosh also received a seventh-place score of
9.275 from Lauren Mareno (Fr. Crystal Lake, Ill.) in the floor
exercise and an eighth-place tally of 34.30 in the all-around competition
from Justine Russell (Fr. Cincinnati, Ohio).
UW-Eau Claire's Lynn Morris was a double-winner
in the meet as she captured the all-around competition and the balance
beam with scores of 37.10 and 9.625, respectively. Also winning events
were Alison Eagles of UW-Eau Claire on the vault with a score of 9.55
and Nina Schubert of UW-La Crosse on the uneven bars with a figure of
9.65.
Titans Place Third At
Quadrangular
The UW-Oshkosh women's gymnastics
team posted its third-best score of the season en route to a third-place
finish at a quadrangular hosted by UW-Eau Claire on Friday (Feb. 20) in
Eau Claire.
Hamline University (Minn.) edged out UW-Eau
Claire, 179.90-179.275, to finish first in the team standings, while UW-Oshkosh
placed third at 175.825 and UW-Whitewater fourth at 175.25.
UW-Oshkosh compiled a meet-best 45.725 on
the balance beam as Justine Russell (Fr. Cincinnati, Ohio) placed
second with a mark of 9.30, Lauren Mareno (Fr. Crystal Lake, Ill.)
third at 9.20, Kim Edson (Fr. Eastampton, N.J.) fifth at 9.15 and
Amanda DeJardin (Jr. Waukesha) sixth at 9.125.
In addition to the balance beam, UW-Oshkosh
also had multiple place winners in both the all-around and floor exercise
competition. In the all-around, Russell finished third with a score of
36.025 and Brianna Lentz (So. West Allis) sixth at 35.725. In the
floor exercise, Lentz finished third with a score of 9.40 and Mareno fourth
at 9.35.
UW-Eau Claire's Lynn Morris recorded four
first-place finishes in the meet, winning the all-around with a score
of 37.25, the balance beam with a mark of 9.35, the floor exercise with
a tally of 9.525 and the uneven bars with a figure of 9.20. Morris tied
Hamline University's Brittany Ehlis for first place on the uneven bars.
Hamline University's Jackie Wurst took top
honors on the vault with a score of 9.25.
Titans Chronicle Three
Season Bests
The UW-Oshkosh women's
gymnastics team recorded three season bests, but it wasn't enough to counter
the effort turned in by NCAA Division I schools Illinois State University
and Southeast Missouri State University on Wednesday (Feb. 11) in Normal,
Ill.
Southeast Missouri State University took
first place in the triangular with a score of 193.70, while host Illinois
State University finished second at 191.675 and UW-Oshkosh third at 181.85.
The Titans' overall score, aided by season-best marks of 47.425 on the
balance beam and 45.85 on the vault, was their highest of the year.
UW-Oshkosh's best event result belonged to
Wendy Wiederholt (Sr. Hazel Green), who finished seventh in the
floor exercise with a season best score of 9.60. The Titans' Brianna Lentz
(So. West Allis) added a pair of 10th-place finishes with season-best
marks of 9.625 on the balance beam and 9.475 in the floor exercise. Lentz
also finished fourth in the all-around competition with a score of 37.25.
Kim Edson (Fr. Eastampton) and Justine
Russell (Fr. Cincinnati, Ohio) completed UW-Oshkosh's top finishes
by placing 11th and 12th on the vault, respectively. Both athletes registered
season bests, with Edson posting a 9.375 rating and Russell a 9.325.
Ashley Godwin of Southeast Missouri State
University captured the all-around title with a score of 39.10, including
first-place numbers of 9.85 on the uneven bars and 9.80 in the floor exercise.
Katie Bloom of Southeast Missouri State University took first place on
the vault with a score of 9.775, while Lisa Klein of Illinois State University
recorded the top listing on the balance beam with a mark of 9.875.
Titans Outdo Warhawks
With the assistance of a season-best
43.925 on the vault, the UW-Oshkosh women's gymnastics team easily outnumbered
UW-Whitewater, 173.175-164.625, in a dual meet held Friday (Feb. 6) in
Kolf Sports Center. UW-Oshkosh's team score was its second-highest of
the season, bested only by a 176.125 at a triangular hosted by the University
of California-Davis on January 16.
UW-Oshkosh had athletes finish first in three
of the four events as Kim Edson (Fr. Eastampton, N.J.) won the
vault with a score of 9.075, Lauren Mareno (Fr. Crystal Lake, Ill.)
the floor exercise with a mark of 9.275 and Justine Russell (Fr.
Cincinnati, Ohio) the balance beam with a tally of 9.325. Russell also
finished second on the vault with a score of 9.05 and Edson fourth on
the balance beam with a rating of 8.65.
Wendy Wiederholt (Sr. Hazel Green)
contributed to UW-Oshkosh's effort by placing third in two events, scoring
a 9.25 on the balance beam and a 9.125 in the floor exercise.
The Titans also received a third-place score
of 8.40 on the uneven bars from Brianna Lentz (So. West Allis),
a fourth-place mark of 8.25 on the uneven bars from Teresa Baldassari
(Fr. Santa Rosa, Calif.) and a fourth-place figure of 8.75 on the
vault from Megan McInnis (Jr. Ham Lake, Minn.).
April Hubmann was a double-winner for UW-Whitewater,
finishing first on the uneven bars and in the all-around competition with
scores of 8.55 and 35.475, respectively.
Titans Finish Fifth At
Gershon/McClellan Invite
The UW-Oshkosh women's
gymnastics team finished fifth at the 23rd Annual Gershon/McLellan Invitational
held Friday (Jan. 30) in La Crosse.
Host UW-La Crosse finished first in the five-team
event with a score of 184.65, while Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.)
placed second at 183.40, UW-Eau Claire and Winona State University (Minn.)
both third at 179.95 and UW-Oshkosh fifth at 170.20. UW-Oshkosh's scoring
output included a season-best 46.70 in the floor exercise.
Wendy Wiederholt (Sr. Hazel Green)
was UW-Oshkosh's top performer, finishing eighth in the floor exercise
with a score of 9.575 and ninth on the balance beam with a tally of 9.125.
The Titans also had Justine Russell (Fr.
Cincinnati, Ohio) finish ninth in the all-around competition with
a score of 34.70 and 12th in the floor exercise with a mark of 9.475 and
Kim Edson (Fr. Eastampton, N.J.) place 14th in the floor exercise
with a count of 9.425 and 20th on the vault with a tally of 8.90.
Amanda Parker of Gustavus Adolphus College
won the all-around title with a score of 37.875 while finishing first
in both the balance beam and floor exercise events with numbers of 9.65
and 9.725, respectively. Other event champions were UW-La Crosse's Nina
Schubert on the uneven bars and Gustavus Adolphus College's Alyssa Cox
on the vault. Schubert had a winning score of 9.325 and Cox a first-place
mark of 9.575.
Titans Finish Third At
UW-Eau Claire Invitational
UW-Oshkosh took
third place out of five teams at the UW-Eau Claire Women's Gymnastics
Invitational held Saturday (Jan. 24) in Eau Claire.
Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) captured
the team title with a score of 181.00, while UW-Eau Claire finished second
at 177.15, UW-Oshkosh third at 171.90, UW-Whitewater fourth at 168.775
and UW-Stout fifth at 168.75.
Amanda Parker of Gustavus Adolphus College
was the big winner at the meet, taking first place in the all-around competition
with a score of 37.225. Parker earned her high all-around figure by finishing
first on both the balance beam and uneven bars while placing third on
the vault and sixth in the floor exercise. Parker had winning scores of
9.40 on the balance beam and 9.375 on the uneven bars.
Justine Russell (Fr. Cincinnati, Ohio)
was UW-Oshkosh's top award winner, finishing first on the vault with a
score of 9.30. She also finished fifth in the all-around competition with
a score of 34.875.
Wendy Wiederholt (Sr. Hazel Green)
also had a big meet for the Titans, finishing second in the floor exercise
with a score of 9.375 and fourth on the balance beam with a mark of 9.15.
The Titans also had Brianna Lentz (So.
West Allis) finish third in the floor exercise with a score of 9.30, Amanda
DeJardin (Jr. Waukesha) fourth on the balance beam with a tally
of 9.15, Kim Edson (Fr. Eastampton, N.J.) seventh on the balance
beam with a rating of 9.025 and Lauren Mareno (Fr. Crystal Lake,
Ill.) seventh in the floor exercise with a listing of 9.15.
Ashley Brett of UW-Eau Claire won the floor
exercise title with a score of 9.45.
Titans Place Third In
California
 Appearing in the
state of California for the first time in school history, the UW-Oshkosh
women's gymnastics team finished third in a triangular hosted by NCAA
Division II University of California-Davis on Friday (Jan. 16) in Davis,
Calif.
The University of California-Davis, behind
triple-winner Tiffany Chan, captured the triangular with a score of 187.60,
while Springfield College (Mass.) finished second at 180.40 and UW-Oshkosh
third at 176.125. The host Aggies drew 1,517 fans to the meet as they
combined efforts with the school's wrestling team in a simultaneous home
event dubbed "Beauty & The Beasts".
Chan was the meet's individual standout as
she compiled winning scores of 9.775 on the balance beam, 9.675 in the
floor exercise and 9.70 on the vault. The Aggies also received a first-place
score of 9.60 from Mei Ling Clark on the uneven bars.
Justine Russell (Fr. Cincinnati, Ohio)
led UW-Oshkosh by finishing second in the all-around competition with
a score of 34.85. Her all-around mark included scores of 9.25 in the floor
exercise and 9.075 on the vault. Jenny Romano-Joseph of Springfield College
took the all-around title with a score of 36.15.
UW-Oshkosh also received a third-place score
of 9.525 from Wendy Wiederholt (Sr. Hazel Green) on the balance
beam.
Titans Finish Third In
Quadrangular
 Michelle Armillei (Fr.
Langhorne, Pa.) and Justine Russell (Fr. Cincinnati, Ohio) were
UW-Oshkosh's top performers in a women's gymnastics quadrangular the Titans
hosted on Friday (Jan. 9) in Kolf Sports Center. The meet opened UW-Oshkosh's
2004 season and Nadalie Walsh's era as the Titans' head coach.
Hamline University (Minn.) won the event
with a score of 173.55, while UW-La Crosse finished second at 171.975,
UW-Oshkosh third at 171.00 and UW-Stout fourth at 164.85.
Russell had a pair of second-place finishes
for the Titans as she recorded scores of 34.825 in the all-around competition
and 9.125 on the vault. She also finished fifth on the even bars with
a score of 8.55 and seventh in the floor exercise with a mark of 9.10.
Armillei placed second on the balance beam
with a score of 9.20 and third in the all-around competition with a figure
of 34.75.
The Titans also received a third-place score
of 9.15 from Lauren Mareno (Fr. Crystal Lake, Ill.) on the balance
beam and a fourth-place listing of 9.40 from Wendy Wiederholt (Sr.
Hazel Green) in the floor exercise.
