UW-Oshkosh Hall Of Fame To Welcome Three Inductees

Jamie Ford, Tiffany (Speckman) Ebensperger and Braugeor Zeitler will join a prestigious club when they are inducted into the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Hall of Fame on Sunday, May 6.

These three former Titans will be honored at the annual Hall of Fame & Senior Awards Banquet in UW-Oshkosh’s Reeve Memorial Union. Tickets for the 5 p.m. event are $20 and can be purchased by contacting Susie Gustke at (920) 424-1383 or gustke@uwosh.edu before May 1.

The UW-Oshkosh Hall of Fame was established in 1974 to give tribute and deserved recognition to former athletes, coaches and friends of the university. It is also intended to enhance school tradition by honoring those people who have shown exceptional ability while on the UW-Oshkosh campus and since graduation. This year’s class will increase the member count to 166.

Ford ('95) played women’s volleyball for the Titans in 1991 and 1993. She was named to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III All-America First Team during 1991, while making the second team in 1993. UW-Oshkosh made the national tournament both years, including a Final Four appearance in 1991. Ford’s career numbers include 2,948 assists, 582 digs and 87 service aces. The two-time All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) selection is a graduate of St. Charles (Ill.) High School.

A two-time national champion, Ebensperger competed in women’s cross country and track & field from 1994-98. She won WIAC cross country titles in 1994, 1996 and 1997, and remains the only woman with three individual crowns. Ebensperger is one of two Titans to win the national championship, scoring her gold in 1997.

Ebensperger ('98) helped UW-Oshkosh to national outdoor track & field titles from 1995-97 and indoor crowns in 1995-96. On the indoor track, she won the 5,000-meter run at the 1998 NCAA Division III Championship. At the 1998 outdoor meet, Ebensperger placed second in both the 3,000 and 5,000-meter runs. The Juda High School graduate received the Honda NCAA Division III Woman Athlete of the Year award as a senior.

Zeitler ('64) ranks as one of the greatest players in the history of UW-Oshkosh men’s tennis. He played in 1957, 1960-61 and 1963. While compiling an overall record of 53-3, Zeitler won the WIAC No. 1 singles championship in 1961 and 1963. The Fond du Lac Goodrich High School graduate added a No. 1 doubles title during the 1960 campaign.

At the national level, Zeitler qualified for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Championship as a singles player in 1963 and a doubles contestant in 1961. Zeitler then coached boys tennis (1972-2003) and girls tennis (1987-2003) at Oshkosh West High School, leading the Wildcats to four Fox Valley Association titles.

Cazzola Wins Twice As Titans Place Second At NCAA Indoor Championship

Christy Cazzola (Jr. • Kaukauna) won individual titles in the 800-meter and mile runs as UW-Oshkosh earned second place at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Women's Indoor Track & Field Championship held Friday and Saturday (March 9-10) in Grinnell, Iowa.

Wartburg College (Iowa) topped the team standings with a record 99 points. The Titans totaled 48 points for second, while Washington University (Mo.) took third with 30. Methodist University (N.C.) placed fourth at 26 and Illinois College and Ramapo College (N.J.) shared fifth with 20 points.

Cazzola won her two races within a span of 90 minutes. In the mile run, she clocked a time of 4:51.99 to defeat Erica Jackey’s (Washington University) second-place mark of 4:52.66. Cazzola listed fourth in the event at last year’s championship.

In the 800-meter run, Cazzola led for the first few laps before falling behind. She then eliminated a three-stride deficit in the final stretch to win by 0.03 seconds. Cazzola’s time of 2:13.40 gave her the gold ahead of Coe College’s Keelie Finnel and Roanoke College’s Carmen Graves at 2:13.93.

UW-Oshkosh’s other individual national champion was Alexia Child (Sr. • Lake Geneva) in the weight throw. Child booked a nation-leading distance of 64-1 3/4 to win by more than three feet. She stood sixth at the 2011 championship with a mark of 57-4 1/4.

The Titans had two other contestants in the weight throw. Breanna Strupp (So. • Slinger) posted a mark of 58-8 1/2 for fifth place. Samantha Loew (Jr. • Burnett) then came in the 11th position at 54-6.

During the shot put competition, Strupp gained another All-American result with her fourth-place throw of 46-2. A pair of Titans scored in the pole vault, with Danielle Carrigan (Sr. • Waukesha) taking fifth at 12-7 1/2 and Lisha Hanson (Sr. • Clintonville) clinching seventh at 12-3 1/2.

Brittni Wirtz (Fr. • Sobieski) contributed three points by placing sixth in the 60-meter dash at 7.70. Ashlynn Chavis (Methodist) won the event with a time of 7.54.

UW-Oshkosh also had Child and Abby Martin (So. • Chilton) participate in the shot put. Martin finished 10th at 43-7, while Child took 12th at 43-3 1/4. In the distance medley relay, the quartet of Lisha Hanson (Sr. • Clintonville), McKenzie Kelly (Jr. • New Richmond), Jennifer Piskor (Sr. • Eagan, Minn.) and Kristin Stockheimer (Jr. • West Salem) clocked a time of 12:19.91 for 10th.

Titans Lead After Day One Of NCAA Indoor Championship

Alexia Child (Sr. • Lake Geneva) won the national title in the weight throw to highlight UW-Oshkosh’s Friday (March 9) results at the NCAA Division III Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championship in Grinnell, Iowa.

The Titans used two events to tally their 20 points. Wartburg College (Iowa) sits in second place with 16 points, followed by Washington University (Mo.) with 13 and both Ramapo College (N.J.) and Tufts University (Mass.) in fourth at 12.

With a nation-leading toss of 64-1 3/4, Child defeated second-place finisher Amanda Gricus (Westfield State University, Mass.) by more than three feet. This was the 10th win by a Titan in the event’s 17-year history. At last season’s championship, Child took sixth place with a 57-4 1/4.

UW-Oshkosh had two other contestants in the weight throw. Breanna Strupp (So. • Slinger) posted an All-American mark of 58-8 1/2 for fifth place. Samantha Loew (Jr. • Burnett) then came in the 11th position at 54-6.

Two more Titans contributed points in the pole vault. Danielle Carrigan (Sr. • Waukesha) placed fifth with a height of 12-7 1/2, while Lisha Hanson (Sr. • Clintonville) cleared 12-3 1/2 for seventh. Carrigan improved on her 2011 finish, when she took sixth at 12-0 1/2.

In the final event of the day, UW-Oshkosh’s distance medley relay placed 10th. The quartet of Lisha Hanson (Sr. • Clintonville), McKenzie Kelly (Jr. • New Richmond), Jennifer Piskor (Sr. • Eagan, Minn.) and Kristin Stockheimer (Jr. • West Salem) clocked a time of 12:19.91. Middlebury College (Vt.) won the race at 11:37.35.

The championship concludes on Saturday with action beginning at 9 a.m.

Cazzola, Ebel Collect All-Region Awards

Christy CazzolaPat EbelUW-Oshkosh’s Christy Cazzola and Pat Ebel were named best in the NCAA Division III Midwest Region by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Cazzola was selected as the Women's Track Athlete of the Year, while Ebel was recognized as the Women's Track and Field Coach of the Year. Other region awards went to Melissa Norville of North Central College (Ill.) as the Field Athlete of the Year and Brian Woodard of Monmouth College (Ill.) as the Assistant Coach of the Year.

Cazzola (Jr. • Kaukauna) owns the nation’s best time in the 800-meter run this season with her school-record performance of 2:09.80. She is also ranks second nationally in the mile run with a time of 4:52.77. At the WIAC Championship held Feb. 24-25, Cazzola captured the 800-meter run, mile run and ran on UW-Oshkosh’s victorious distance medley relay squad.

Last season, Cazzola finished fourth in the mile run at the NCAA Division III Championship with a time of 4:59.65.

Liz Woodworth is the only other Titan to be named Midwest Region Track Athlete of the Year. She earned the selection in both 2002 and 2004

Ebel has led second-ranked UW-Oshkosh into contention for the team title at this weekend's (March 9-10) NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championship in Grinnell, Iowa. The defending champion Titans will have 12 entries in the meet, including six in the throws. Last month, Ebel guided UW-Oshkosh to its second straight WIAC indoor title.

Defending Champion Titans Go For Repeat At NCAA Indoor Championship

UW-Oshkosh will have the top seed in three events as it looks to defend its title at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Women's Indoor Track & Field Championship on Friday and Saturday (March 9-10) in Grinnell, Iowa.

Competition from Grinnell College's Bear Recreation and Athletic Center begins Friday at 8:45 a.m. On Saturday, events start at 9 a.m. The meet features 15 events, with the top eight finishers in each event earning All-America status. The top four teams earn a trophy.

Christy Cazzola (Jr. • Kaukauna) will compete in three races for the Titans. She is seeded first in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:09.80 and second in the mile run with a mark of 4:52.77. The top seed in the mile run is Middlebury College’s (Vt.) Margo Cramer at 4:51.93. Cazzola finished fourth in the mile run at last year's championship with a time of 4:59.65.

In the distance medley relay, UW-Oshkosh's quartet of Cazzola, Lisha Hanson (Sr. • Clintonville), McKenzie Kelly (Jr. • New Richmond) and Jennifer Piskor (Sr. • Eagan, Minn.) is seeded third with a time of 11:50.22. The top seed is Middlebury College at 11:39.56.

UW-Oshkosh will have the top seed in both throwing competitions. Alexia Child (Sr. • Lake Geneva) leads all contestants in the 20-pound weight throw with a distance of 62-4, while Breanna Strupp (So. • Slinger) ranks first in the shot put with a measurement of 48-4 1/2. Last year, Child placed sixth in the 20-pound weight throw with a mark of 57-4 1/4.

The Titans have two other entrants in both the shot put and 20-pound weight throw. Abby Martin (So. • Chilton) is seeded second in the shot put with a mark of 46-9 1/2 and Child sixth with a figure of 45-5 3/4. In the 20-pound weight throw, Samantha Loew (Jr. • Burnett) ranks fourth with a distance of 59-11 1/4 and Strupp 11th with a value of 56-1 3/4.

Hanson and Danielle Carrigan (Sr. • Waukesha) will represent UW-Oshkosh in the pole vault. Carrigan is seeded fourth with a height of 12-10 and Hanson eighth with a mark of 12-2. The top seed for this year's event is Linfield College's (Ore.) Catherine Steet at 13-9 1/4. At the 2011 championship, Carrigan took sixth in the pole vault with a height of 12-0 1/2.

The final of UW-Oshkosh’s 12 entries is Brittni Wirtz (Fr. • Sobieski) in the 60-meter dash. Wirtz owns a time of 7.71 to rank seventh behind top-seeded Erica Johnson of State University of New York-Buffalo and her time of 7.55.

Last year, UW-Oshkosh scored 46.5 points to capture its seventh NCAA Division III indoor title. Wartburg College (Iowa) placed second in the team standings with 44 points, Massachusetts Institute of Technology third with 30.5 and Methodist University (N.C.) fourth with 26.

Wartburg College, the top-ranked team in the NCAA Division III by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, has 16 entries in this year's meet. The Knights are followed in the poll by second-ranked UW-Oshkosh, third-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University, fourth-ranked Methodist University and fifth-ranked Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Carrigan's School-Record Vault Highlights Titans' Last Chance Efforts

UW-Oshkosh was represented at the North Central College Qualifier held Thursday and Friday (March 1-2) in Naperville, Ill., the University of Wisconsin Qualifier held Friday (March 2) in Madison and the UW-Stevens Point Qualifier held Saturday (March 3) in Stevens Point.

Carrigan won the pole vault with a height of 12-10 at the UW-Stevens Point Qualifier. The Titans had three other winners as Samantha Loew (Jr. • Burnett) marked a distance of 59-11 1/4 in the 20-pound weight throw, Abby Martin (So. • Chilton) threw to a measurement of 44-9 1/2 in the shot put and Brittni Wirtz (Fr. • Sobieski) ran to a time of 7.71 in the 60-meter dash.

Also finishing in the top four for UW-Oshkosh at the meet were Lisha Hanson (Sr. • Clintonville), Melanie Brickner (Fr. • Marathon) and Sadie Sawall (Sr. • Menasha). Hanson placed second in the pole vault with a height of 11-7, Brickner third in the 20-pound weight throw with a distance of 55-3 1/2 and Sawall fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.41.

At the North Central College Qualifier, UW-Oshkosh's distance medley relay team of Hanson, Christy Cazzola (Jr. • Kaukauna), McKenzie Kelly (Jr. • New Richmond) and Jennifer Piskor (Sr. • Eagan, Minn.) took first place with a time of 11:50.22.

The meet also featured Sawall finishing fourth in the pentathlon with 3,108 points.

At the University of Wisconsin Qualifier, Alexia Child (Sr. • Lake Geneva) and Claire Pohlman (So. • Sun Prairie) both finished third for the Titans. Child marked a measurement of 61-3 1/2 in the 20-pound weight throw and Pohlman a value of 36-9 in the triple jump.

UW-Oshkosh also received a sixth-place effort of 58-8 from Loew in the 20-pound weight throw. Martin finished eighth in the event with a performance of 51-11 3/4.

UW-Oshkosh looks to defend its team title when it sends several athletes to the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championship on March 9-10 in Grinnell, Iowa. Competitors for the meet will be announced on Tuesday (March 6).

Ebel Named WIAC Indoor Coach Of The Year

Pat EbelThe Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) has announced the selection of UW-Oshkosh's Pat Ebel as its 2012 Women's Indoor Track and Field Coach of the Year.

Ebel earned his second straight indoor coaching award after leading the Titans to a first-place finish at the WIAC Championship held Feb. 24-25 in Menomonie. UW-Oshkosh scored 152 points to successfully defend its championship and capture its 13th overall title. UW-Eau Claire placed second in the nine-team meet with 121 points and UW-La Crosse third with 108.

UW-Oshkosh won five individual titles and one relay crown at this past WIAC Championship. Christy Cazzola (Jr. • Kaukauna) took first place in the 800-meter run and mile run while anchoring the Titans' victorious distance medley relay team.

UW-Oshkosh also had Danielle Carrigan (Sr. • Waukesha) win the pole vault, Alexia Child (Sr. • Lake Geneva) the 20-pound weight throw and Breanna Strupp (So. • Slinger) the shot put.

Ebel is in his third season as UW-Oshkosh's head women's track and field coach. Last season, he guided the Titans to indoor and outdoor titles at both the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III and WIAC championships.

Deb Vercauteren is the only other WIAC Indoor Track and Field Coach of the Year recipient from UW-Oshkosh. She won the award in 1988-89, 1991, 1994-97, 1999 and 2006.

Jordanne Greenup of UW-Eau Claire was named the outstanding track performer at the WIAC Championship. The meet's outstanding field performer was UW-Stout's Jessika Smith.

Titans Crowned WIAC Indoor Champion

UW-Oshkosh won six events, with three repeat winners, to defend its title at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championship held Friday and Saturday (Feb. 24-25) in Menomonie.

The Titans captured their 13th indoor championship with 152 points. UW-Eau Claire finished second with 121 points, while UW-La Crosse placed third with 108, UW-Whitewater fourth with 84 and UW-Stevens Point fifth with 67. UW-River Falls ranked sixth with 60 points, UW-Stout seventh with 52, UW-Platteville eighth with 43 and UW-Superior ninth with 15.

Christy Cazzola (Jr. • Kaukauna) took first place in two races and ran on UW-Oshkosh’s victorious distance medley relay team. She successfully defended titles in the 800-meter run and mile run by recording times of 2:14.53 and 4:56.28, respectively.

In the distance medley relay, Cazzola, Katelyn Brooks (Fr. • Winneconne), Tori Johnson (Jr. • Valders) and Rachel Westover (Fr. • South Milwaukee) posted a winning time of 12:29.52.

The other UW-Oshkosh competitor to repeat as champion was Danielle Carrigan (Sr. • Waukesha) in the pole vault. She won the event with a height of 12-4.

UW-Oshkosh's list of winners concluded with Alexia Child (Sr. • Lake Geneva) in the 20-pound weight throw and Breanna Strupp (So. • Slinger) in the shot put. Child marked a distance of 61-2 1/4 while Strupp tallied a measurement of 48-4 1/2 to remain unbeaten in her last seven indoor meets.

The throwing events were huge for the Titans, as they went 1-2-3 in the shot put and owned three of the top four positions in the 20-pound weight throw. Child placed second in the shot put with a distance of 45-5 3/4, while Abby Martin (So. • Chilton) placed third at 44-4 3/4. In the weight throw, Samantha Loew (Jr. • Burnett) captured third place with a mark of 58-5 1/4 and Strupp fourth at 56-1 3/4.

On the track, Brittni Wirtz (Fr. • Sobieski) finished second in the 60-meter dash at 7.80 and Jennifer Piskor (Sr. • Eagan, Minn.) fourth in the 5,000-meter run at 18:10.73. Another fourth-place effort came from Lisha Hanson (Sr. • Clintonville), who cleared 11-0 1/4 in the pole vault.

UW-Oshkosh compiled three third-place results, including Claire Pohlman's (So. • Sun Prairie) skip of 36-9 3/4 in the triple jump.

The Titans took third in the 800-meter and 1,600-meter relays with times of 1:45.53 and 4:02.56, respectively. The 800-meter relay team consisted of Hanson, Samantha Blue (Fr. • Kimberly), Cassandra Hemmen (Fr. • Appleton) and Becklyn Hunter (Fr. • Winnebago, Ill.). Members of the 1,600-meter relay squad were Cazzola, Hanson, Hunter and Rachel Westover (Fr. • South Milwaukee).

McKenzie Kelly (Jr. • New Richmond) contributed solid performances with her fifth-place time of 5:12.55 in the mile run and sixth-place mark of 2:19.45 in the 800-meter run. Kristin Heckel (Fr. • Waukesha) tacked on a fifth-place distance of 35-9 1/4 in the triple jump, while Blue notched a sixth-place value of 17-0 in the long jump.

Other sixth-place finishes went to Hanson in the 400-meter dash with a time of 59.28 and Sadie Sawall (Sr. • Menasha) in the pentathlon with 2,837 points.

UW-Oshkosh will compete in last chance meets on Thursday and Friday (March 1-2) in Naperville, Ill., Friday in Madison and Saturday (March 3) in Stevens Point.

Titans Set To Defend WIAC Indoor Track & Field Title

UW-Oshkosh aims for its second consecutive title and 13th overall at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women's Indoor Track and Field Championship that will be held Friday and Saturday (Feb. 24-25) in Menomonie. Competition begins at 11:30 a.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday at UW-Stout's Johnson Fieldhouse.

UW-Oshkosh won last year's meet with 160 points. The Titans owned the winner in eight events and scored 29 of their points in the 20-pound weight throw and 26 in the shot put.

UW-Eau Claire finished second a year ago with 130.5 points, while UW-La Crosse placed third with 108.5, UW-Whitewater fourth with 99, UW-River Falls fifth with 63, UW-Stevens Point sixth with 61, UW-Platteville seventh with 46, UW-Stout eighth with 30 and UW-Superior ninth with four.

This year's championship returns seven athletes who have combined to win nine individual event titles. It also showcases three of the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's top 17 NCAA Division III teams in second-ranked UW-Oshkosh, ninth-ranked UW-Whitewater and 17th-ranked UW-La Crosse.

UW-Oshkosh owns a pair of returning champions in Christy Cazzola (Jr. • Kaukauna) and Danielle Carrigan (Sr. • Waukesha). Cazzola won the 800-meter run and one-mile run at last year's championship, while Carrigan took first place in the pole vault. Cazzola was also a member of the Titans' victorious 1,600-meter relay team.

UW-Eau Claire has two defending champions back in 5,000-meter run participant Ashlyn Mauer and 55-meter hurdles contestant Kim Miresse. Miresse ran on last year's first-place 800-meter relay squad as well.

UW-Whitewater also brings back a pair of event champions in JoLyn Owen in the pentathlon and Shelby Demos in the high jump.

UW-Platteville's Ann Tank is the defending champion in the 400-meter dash, after earning the 800-meter run title in 2010. She was a member of the Pioneers' first-place distance medley relay team at the 2009 championship.

Other UW-Oshkosh athletes expected to contend for event titles this weekend are Alexia Child (Sr. • Lake Geneva) in the 20-pound weight throw and Breanna Strupp (So. • Slinger) in the shot put.

Following the WIAC Indoor Championship, UW-Oshkosh will compete at last chance qualifiers in Madison and Stevens Point before participating at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championship on March 9-10 in Grinnell, Iowa.

Titans Cruise To Eastbay Invitational Title

The Titans totaled 162.5 points to easily capture the 13-school meet. UW-Stevens Point listed second with 116 points, followed by UW-Whitewater with 113, UW-Eau Claire with 66 and St. Norbert College in fifth at 50.5.

Alexia Child (Sr. • Lake Geneva) led the way as UW-Oshkosh swept the top three places in the weight throw. Child posted a distance of 62-4, while Samantha Loew (Jr. • Burnett) booked a 57-1 1/2 for second and Breanna Strupp (So. • Slinger) a 53-5 for third.

Strupp earned gold in the shot put with a mark of 45-4 1/2. This time, Child listed second at 43-10 1/2, and Abby Martin (So. • Chilton) scored third place with her 43-6 1/2.

UW-Oshkosh won seven events overall, including three on the track. Lisha Hanson (Sr. • Clintonville) posted a winning 200-meter dash time of 26.42, to go with McKenzie Kelly’s (Jr. • New Richmond) 800-meter run in 2:20.16 and Brittni Wirtz’s (Fr. • Sobieski) 60-meter dash in 7.86.

On the field, Danielle Carrigan (Sr. • Waukesha) pole-vaulted 12-4 for first place. Claire Pohlman (So. • Sun Prairie) was then victorious with a triple jump of 35-3. The Titans’ lone second-place result came from Brooke Buehler (Fr. • Sheboygan Falls), who notched 16-9 1/4 in the long jump.

Jennifer Piskor (Sr. • Eagan, Minn.) ran a 5:15.31 mile to grab third place. The final top-three performance was a triple jump of 33-11 1/2 by Amanda Shober (Fr. • Sussex).

UW-Oshkosh looks to defend its title at the WIAC Championship on Feb. 24-25 in Menomonie.

Titans Quiet WIAC Rivals

The Titans marked 210 points to easily take the four-team event. UW-Whitewater listed second with 145 points, followed by UW-La Crosse in third at 121 and UW-Stevens Point fourth at 104.

Cazzola’s 800-meter time of 2:09.80 was also the best in the NCAA Division III this year. Teaming with Lisha Hanson (Sr. • Clintonville), Becklyn Hunter (Fr. • Winnebago, Ill.) and McKenzie Kelly (Jr. • New Richmond), Cazzola helped the Titans to a first-place 4:05.20 in the 1,600-meter relay.

UW-Oshkosh continued its field success with a weight throw victory of 59-3 1/2 by Alexia Child (Sr. • Lake Geneva) and a winning shot put of 45-6 1/4 by Breanna Strupp (So. • Slinger). It was the fifth straight competition that Strupp took first in the shot put. Danielle Carrigan (Sr. • Waukesha) wrapped up the victories with her pole vault score of 12-3 1/2.

In the 20-pound weight throw, Samantha Loew (Jr. • Burnett) listed second at 55-3 3/4 and Strupp came in third with a toss of 55-3. The top three spots also belonged to the Titans in the shot put, with Abby Martin (So. • Chilton) launching it 44-2 3/4 and Child booking a 42-4 3/4.

Second-place finishes on the track went to Annie Bley (Fr. • Egg Harbor) with a 5,000-meter time of 19:57.78, Kristin Stockheimer (Jr. • West Salem) with a one-mile mark of 5:32.21 and Brittni Wirtz (Fr. • Sobieski) with her 60-meter dash in 7.88. Claire Pohlman (So. • Sun Prairie) contributed a second-place triple jump of 35-1 1/4.

Kristin Heckel (Fr. • Waukesha) tallied a pair of third-place standings. She used 9.80 seconds to complete the 60-meter hurdles, while triple-jumping a distance of 34-10 1/4. The Titans also scored third place with Hanson’s 10-10 pole vault and Lauren Reigel’s (So. • Greenville) one-mile time of 5:33.02.

UW-Oshkosh looks to make it four consecutive wins at the Eastbay Invitational on Feb. 18 in Stevens Point.

Titans Top Standings At Warhawk Classic

The Titans captured the six-team event with 221 points. North Central College (Ill.) compiled 122.5 points for second and host UW-Whitewater notched 94 for third. The University of Chicago (Ill.) marked 74.5 for the fourth position, while St. Norbert College tallied 61 and Loras College (Iowa) 35 for sixth.

Excelling with the short races, Wirtz won the 60-meter dash in 7.92 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 26.68. UW-Oshkosh earned another track triumph when Becklyn Hunter (Fr. • Winnebago, Ill.), Stephanie Jahn (So. • Deerfield), Stephanie Knutson (Fr. • Appleton) and Rachel Westover (Fr. • South Milwaukee) finished the 800-meter relay in 1:49.67.

For the fourth consecutive week, Breanna Strupp (So. • Slinger) owned the shot put. Strupp tossed it 47-7 3/4 to defeat her second-place teammate Abby Martin (So. • Chilton) at 43-4 1/4. Danielle Carrigan (Sr. • Waukesha) tacked on a first-place pole vault of 12-6 and Alexia Child (Sr. • Lake Geneva) concluded the victories with her weight throw of 57-0 3/4.

Samantha Loew (Jr. • Burnett) followed in second place with a 54-1 1/4 weight throw. Strupp listed third in the weight throw at 52-11, as did Kayla Oberstadt (Sr. • New London) in the shot put at 40-10 1/2. Samantha Blue (Fr. • Kimberly) then finished second in both the 60-meter dash (8.09) and the long jump (16-10 3/4). The Titans’ other second-place scores came from Lisha Hanson (Sr. • Clintonville) with a pole vault of 12-2 and Becklyn Hunter (Fr. • Winnebago, Ill.) with a 200-meter dash time of 26.72.

Brooke Buehler (Fr. • Sheboygan Falls), with a long jump of 16-8 3/4, and Claire Pohlman (So. • Sun Prairie), with a triple jump of 35-0 1/4, each captured third place. Jennifer Piskor (Sr. Eagan, Minn.) continued the third-place performances in the 5,000-meter run at 18:23.85, along with Kristin Heckel (Fr. • Waukesha) in the 60-meter hurdles at 9.80 and Kristin Stockheimer (Jr. • West Salem) with an 800-meter run time of 2:22.03.

UW-Oshkosh returns to UW-Whitewater for a quadrangular on Friday (Feb. 10).

Cazzola, Strupp Earn WIAC Athlete Of The Week Awards

Christy CazzolaBreanna StruppUW-Oshkosh swept both awards as the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) announced its Women's Track and Field Athlete of the Week honorees for meets held Jan. 23-29.

Christy Cazzola (Jr. • Kaukauna) was named the Track Athlete of the Week, while Breanna Strupp (Jr. • Slinger) was chosen as the Field Athlete of the Week. Both athletes were recognized for their efforts at the UW-Oshkosh Open held Jan. 27.

Cazzola took first place among five contestants in the mile run with a time of 4:52.77. Her performance ranks as the fastest in the NCAA Division III this season. Michelle Matter of Ripon College finished second with a time of 5:2416.

Cazzola also ran on UW-Oshkosh’s first-place 1,600-meter relay team. The group of Cazzola, Lisha Hanson (Sr. • Clintonville), McKenzie Kelly (Jr. • New Richmond) and Rachel Westover (Fr. • South Milwaukee) posted a winning time of 4:06.17.

Strupp took first place among four contestants in the shot put with a distance of 47-8. Her mark, which leads the NCAA Division III this season by nearly 18 inches, established a personal best. UW-Oshkosh’s Abby Martin (So. • Chilton) placed second in the event with a toss of 44-8.

Strupp also placed second in the 20-pound weight throw with a measurement of 54-6 3/4. UW-Oshkosh’s Samantha Loew (Jr. • Burnett) won the event with a cast of 54-6 3/4.

The Titans won the UW-Oshkosh with 89.5 points. Ripon College placed second with 36 points and Lawrence University third with 24.5.

Titans Take Care Of Red Hawks, Vikings

The Titan took first place in 13 events and won the UW-Oshkosh Open with 89.5 points. Ripon College finished second with 36 points and Lawrence University third with 24.5.

Cazzola, Hanson and Kelly teamed with Rachel Westover (Fr. • South Milwaukee) to post a time of 4:06.17 in the 1,600-meter relay. Individually, Cazzola won the mile run in 4:52.77, Hanson the 400-meter run in 1:00.31 and Kelly the 800-meter run in 2:21.50.

UW-Oshkosh swept the top three places in the 60-meter dash, shot put and 20-pound weight throw. Brittni Wirtz (Fr. • Sobieski) finished first in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.03, while Cassanda Hemmen (Fr. • Appleton) placed second in 8.25 and Kristin Heckel (Fr. • Waukesha) third in 8.44. In the shot put, Breanna Strupp (So. • Slinger) took first with a distance of 47-8, while Abby Martin (So. • Chilton) ranked second at 44-8 and Melanie Brickner (Fr. • Marathon) third at 41-1. Samantha Loew (Jr. • Burnett) won the 20-pound weight throw with a mark of 57-9, while Strupp finished second at 54-6 3/4 and Brickner third at 49-5.

The Titans' remaining first-place efforts belonged to Samantha Blue (Fr. • Kimberly) with a time of 26.88 in the 200-meter dash, Megan Gildernick (Fr. • Wauconda, Ill.) in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.98, Danielle Carrigan (Sr. • Waukesha) in the pole vault with a height o 11-6 1/4, Brooke Buehler (Fr. • Sheboygan Falls) in the long jump with a leap of 16-9 3/4, Claire Pohlman (So. • Sun Prairie) in the triple jump with a skip of 34-7 3/4 and Sadie Sawall (Sr. • Menasha) in the pentathlon with 2,855 points.

Other second-place finishes went to UW-Oshkosh's Blue in the long jump with a leap of 15-9, Heckel in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.03, Becklyn Hunter (Fr. • Winnebago, Ill.) in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:00.35, Kristin Stockheimer (Jr. • West Salem) in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:22.58, Carlyn Brown (Sr. • Belleville) in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 11:38.66 and Emelie Troedson (Fr. • New Berlin) in the high jump with a height of 4-11 1/2.

Rounding out the Titans' third-place performances were Westover in the 400-meter run with a time of 1:03.04, Jennifer Piskor (Sr. • Eagan, Minn.) in the mile run with a time of 5:36.00 and Kylee Verhasselt (Fr. • Freedom) in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:25.61.

Titans Stand Third At Cardinal Opener

In the team standings, North Central College won the meet with 210 points. Emory University (Ga.) took second with 124.5 points and the Titans third at 121. Carthage College totaled 83.5 points for fourth place and Benedictine University (Ill.) came in fifth at 11.

Breanna Strupp (So. • Slinger) took first in the shot put for the second straight week, tossing it 46-9. Samantha Loew (Jr. • Burnett) then continued her weight throw success with a winning distance of 57-3 1/2. UW-Oshkosh’s final field winner was Danielle Carrigan (Sr. • Waukesha), who cleared 11-5 3/4 on the pole vault.

The 5,000-meter run belonged to the Titans, with Christy Cazzola (Jr. • Kaukauna) prevailing in 17:28. Jennifer Piskor (Sr. • Eagan, Minn.) came in the second position at 18:58.28, while Morgan Engelhart (So. • Oregon) earned third at 19:12.68. Allie DeBaker (Jr. • Green Bay) took fourth at 19:14.54 and Tori Johnson (Jr. • Valders) rounded out the top-five with her 19:15.94.

Strupp added a second-place score in the weight throw with a flight of 53-0 1/4, as Abby Martin (So. • Chilton) listed third with 49-1 and Melanie Brickner (Fr. • Marathon) fourth at 48-4. The Titans’ other finishes of second came from Lisha Hanson (Sr. • Clintonville) in the pole vault, clearing 11-5 3/4, and Martin in the shot put with a toss 41-1 1/2.

Achieving a distance of 39-3 1/4, Brickner also listed fourth in the shot put. McKenzie Kelly (Jr. • New Richmond) then contributed a fourth-place time of 10:50.46 in the 3,000-meter run.

UW-Oshkosh returns home for a meet against Lawrence University and Ripon College on Friday (Jan. 27) in Kolf Sports Center.

Titans Take 10 Events To Top Maroons

McKenzie KellySamantha LoewBreanna StruppUW-Oshkosh swept the top three places in the 60-meter dash, 200-meter dash, shot put and weight throw during the UW-Oshkosh Women’s Track & Field Open on Saturday (Jan. 14) in Kolf Sports Center. In team scoring, the Titans defeated the University of Chicago (Ill.) by an 88-48 tally.

Brittni Wirtz (Fr. • Sobieski) posted a time of 7.99 seconds to capture the 60-meter dash, and she was followed by Samantha Blue (Fr. • Kimberly) in 8.15 and Cassandra Hemmen (Fr. • Appleton) in 8.25. Lisha Hanson (Sr. • Clintonville) then won the 200-meter dash in 26.95, with Hemmen earning second at 27.17 and Wirtz placing third at 27.39.

The throwing events belonged to Breanna Strupp (So. • Slinger), who topped the shot put competitors with a toss of 46-0 1/2. Abby Martin (So. • Chilton) followed in second with her mark of 44-0, while Melanie Brickner (Fr. • Marathon) listed third at 38-0 1/4.

Samantha Loew (Jr. • Burnett) prevailed in the weight throw with a distance of 55-5 1/2. Strupp was right behind with her fling of 54-11 3/4, and Brickner came in the third position at 50-0 1/2.

Kristin Heckel (Fr. • Waukesha) boosted the Titans with a pair of victories. She clocked a time of 9.93 in the 60-meter hurdles and cleared 35-8 in the triple jump. Blue tacked on another triumph with her long jump of 16-8, and Danielle Carrigan (Sr. • Waukesha) reached 12-0 on the pole vault for first place.

The 1,600-meter relay team of Hanson, McKenzie Kelly (Jr. • New Richmond), Kylee Verhassett (Fr. • Freedom) and Rachel Westover (Fr. • South Milwaukee) counted a winning time of 4:10.71. Westover then earned the final victory by using 1:02.64 in the 400-meter dash.

Hanson supplied a second-place score with her pole vault of 11-0, while Annie Bley (Fr. • Egg Harbor) earned second in the 3,000-meter run at 11:27.15. The Titans’ second-place results also included Brooke Buehler (Fr. • Sheboygan Falls) with a long jump of 16-5, Becklyn Hunter (Fr. • Winnebago, Ill.) with a 400-meter dash time of 1:03.86, Lauren Reigel (So. • Greenville) with an 800-meter run of 2:27.62 and Amanda Shober (Fr. • Sussex) with a triple jump distance of 34-4 1/4.
