Pat EbelTwo national championships and 36 All-Americans are just some of the highlights from Pat Ebel’s first two years as UW-Oshkosh’s women’s track & field head coach.

The Titans won both the indoor and outdoor NCAA Division III titles during 2011, as Ebel was named the National Outdoor Coach of the Year. UW-Oshkosh finished second at both national meets in 2010, with Ebel mentoring three individual champions and 16 All-Americans.

At the 2011 indoor national championship, UW-Oshkosh owned eight All-America performers. Ebel specializes in the throwing events, and he led Holly Ozanich to individual titles in the shot put and weight throw. The Titans had eight first-place finishes as they captured the WIAC Indoor Championship earlier in the year.

UW-Oshkosh completed its impressive sweep with a 21-point victory at the 2011 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championship. Ebel guided four event winners, including three throwers, and 12 All-Americans. The Titans also won the WIAC outdoor title behind seven individual champions.

Ebel served as an assistant coach with the UW-Oshkosh men’s and women’s track & field programs from 2002-2009. During that time, his athletes achieved 20 individual national titles and 82 All-America listings. The Titans compiled six team national championships on the women’s side and two more on the men’s side.

Ebel helped former UW-Oshkosh standout Robyn Jarocki qualify for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials in the shot put. Jarocki won 10 NCAA Division III titles and collected 17 NCAA Division III All-America awards as member of the Titans from 2003-06.

With more than 20 years of coaching experience, Ebel began his career as an assistant track & field coach at La Crosse Logan High School in 1991. He was then an assistant coach at Manzano High School in Albuquerque (N.M.) during 1992 and Waterloo High School from 1993 to 1998. Ebel entered the collegiate coaching ranks at UW-Whitewater, where he was an assistant track & field coach from 1999-2001. Ebel guided UW-Whitewater student-athletes in the throwing events to one NCAA Division III title, seven NCAA Division III All-America results and eight WIAC championships.

A UW-La Crosse graduate (1992), Ebel earned his bachelor’s degree in community health education. He also played football and

was a member of the Eagles’ track & field teams. Ebel and his wife, Sandy, have two children, Lauren and Erik.
