The Titans are coming off of a great weekend for the team. On a long road weekend, the Titans were successful in two games in many ways. The first game was a good conference win up in Superior. We had 2 freshman, Melissa Michalkiewicz and Alaina Landi earn their first points for their college career. It was a great team win as all players contributed to it's success. It was also great to get another shutout defensively, increasing our total to 4.
On Sunday, the team faced a very strong MIAC foe, The College of St. Benedict's. St. Ben's reached the NCAA tournament last year and returns 10 seniors from that team. Although, the result isn't what we wanted, we played our best 90 minutes of soccer thus far. Our young team competed and fought exceptionally hard and had some great chances to tie the game late in the second half. I was very impressed with the way the team focused on their second day of competition and played up to their potential. We certainly raised the bar this weekend. I look forward to what the team will bring to it's next competition.
Three games into the season and we are heads and shoulders over where we left off last season. Our home opener was a great game as we beat Hamline 4-1. Last season we only scored 4 goals in one game, so hopefully our offense continues to flourish. In that four goal win, we had four different goal scorers. It is nice to have an offense where we don’t have to depend on 1 person for goals.
This past Labor Day weekend, we traveled out to Philadelphia Pennsylvania and played against two great teams. We didn’t get the “W’s” but the teams forced us to play our best soccer of the season. We improved tremendously from Saturday to Sunday and found a way to find the back of the net again on Sunday, with two great composed goals. These two teams certainly have prepared us well for our conference opener on Saturday. The remainder of our trip was quite eventful as well. On Saturday evening, we made a trek to Valley Forge and on Sunday, a quick shopping venture at King of Prussia, the second largest mall in America. On Monday, we toured Independence Hall and saw the Liberty Bell and even managed to make our debut on Fox 29 News in Philadelphia. Check out the link on our Web site.
This weekend’s game against La Crosse will be a big one for us. It is our conference opener and a must win if we would like to get to the conference tournament this season.
